Ben the Rapper just came in to lay down vocals for 3 songs. Went smooth and will have a singer lay down the chorus for one of the tracks tomorrow night. I’ll have a song posted tomorrow night.

We finished up “The Immortality Drive” Album we worked on the past 7 days. Sounds full, some of my best work to date. Check them out.

Here’s an explanation of their band name to check out:
The Immortality Drive is a large memory device which was taken to the International Space Station in a Soyuz spacecraft on October 12, 2008. The Immortality Drive contains digitized DNA sequences of a select group of humans, such as physicist Stephen Hawking, comedian Stephen Colbert, Playboy model Jo Garcia, game designer Richard Garriot, fantasy authors Tracy Hickman and Laura Hickman, Pro Wrestler Matt Morgan, and athlete Lance Armstrong.[1][2] The microchip also contains a copy of George’s Secret Key to the Universe, a children’s book authored by Stephen Hawking and his daughter, Lucy.
The intent of the Immortality Drive is to preserve human DNA in a time capsule, in case some global cataclysm should occur on Earth.
The Immortality Drive was featured in History Channel’s Life After People, first season episode “The Bodies Left Behind”.

We finished up the 6th day of The Immortality Drive’s album by listening back to a fully mixed and mastered song to see what the levels sound like in all speaker sources we could get our hands on. Mixing the rest of the songs tomorrow.

Mark Buerkle was in last night, after the day time session, to finish up his 4 song EP. We knocked it out and I’ll post a song later today when I have a moment to upload it.

The Immortality Drive is on day 6 of their album. We’re finishing up a few random vocal parts and then we’ll start mixing a song to get the mix process started.

We’ve finished all guitars, bass, and Billy’s scream tracks. We started working on Brandon’s vocals as well with one song down. Up today is adding all the synths, pianos, orchestral tracks, and production beats to the songs and maybe work on more vocals.

Karaoke last night at the west side O'Tooles

Week three of karaoke judging last night. Miss Anika took home first place, $75, and moving on to the final monthly round for her chance to win $150.

O’Tooles karaoke competition is every Tuesday night. Karaoke starts at 9pm, competition starts around 11:30-midnight depending on how many people sign up. At least 5 people need to sign up to have the competition. It’s $10 to enter the contest winner gets $75 and second place gets $25. Crowd favorite gets $10 in O’Tooles dollars.

If you enjoy karaoke and don’t want to enter the competition, you can still come and sing and watch the competition. The crowd also gets a vote towards the winners as well. So come sing, drink, eat the tasty foods, and vote. Tuesday nights. 4796 W Broad St Columbus, OH 43228.

End of day one for "THE IMMORTALITY DRIVE"

In the studio this week is Columbus Ohio band “The Immortality Drive”.

The band showed up with their drum tracks they put together at their own writing studio, so we just needed to transfer them to my software. We ended the day getting guitar tones and levels, and tracked guitar for 3 songs. Tomorrow we finish guitars and start on bass.

Well, We started last week off with an Empire of Rats session, followed by a week of tracking the new Steamboat record at the bigger facility, ending the week with some West Virginia hardcore called Bad Terms. Now brings us this week to working on The Immortality Drive’s debute album called “The Harvest”. They are in for 7 days to track, mix, and master this beast. Video and pic updates soon just like the Steamboat updates last week.

A week has past, 10 song tracked. Many collaborations from old friends and new friends. Every instrument was miced up and ready for action all the way up till tear down time, so we could get as much of the music tracked out fully live. Many hours of video have been captured, and countless amounts of photos have been taken on many cameras as well. Expect a documentary about this week from Kyle Cardwell some time in the future. The tones we captured came out great. After having a chance to listen in my car, my smaller studio, and on my iphone,This songs are going to have some character to them due to the signal chain we were able to use for this record. Samples may be up in a week or so.Mixing is next for this project, which we will do in the near future.

Up today is “Bad Terms” from Huntington, WV. Ready to tear up some live hardcore. Friends with the “hard times” band I recorded a few weeks ago, so they already know a bit how things flow.

Day 3 has arrived! Logan has made an itinerary, and he’s keeping us in check with it, clipboard in hand.

Starting the day with a few guitar overdubs then off to start all live tracking their song “take it easy”, which I believe is a politically motivated song.

As far as after that I’ll know when logan calls it out.

Day two is here. Utter chaos has not broken out yet, though we have 4 more days for that to happen. After spending most of the day on tones, levels, practice, and mic placement we ended up recording two songs. I’m about to bounce them down to listen in the car while Logan and I run some errands. STEAMBOAT!

Starting tomorrow, Steamboat and I will be starting their Album tomorrow. A live-in session where we will record at all hours of the day, exploring the studio space. I hope to post a decent amount of updates, but the internet is really slow over there, so we’ll see.

Here’s a track off their last EP I did, where they recorded 100% live with no punches or overdubs, to 1″ tape, and bounced to 1/4 tape. Such an experience. This time will be different because we will focus on capturing a much more “live” vibe and be able to add many more tracks to give it a more “album” feel.
