since it IS the season for thanks… i have a little “thank you” card to share!

i wanted the colors of the card to “seasonal”, but still soft and pretty, so i chose to use yellows and oranges with just a touch of brown to add some contrast…

I started with a muted orange cardstock for the card, then added a warm brown block as a backdrop for the rest of my elements.

Then i took a square of plain white cardstock and lightly sprayed it with SMOOCH SPRITZ in GOLD GLOW, then i used an ANTIQUE BROCADE STAMP inked with ANCIENT PAGE ink in SUNBURST to create the background block for the card.

Next, I sprayed another piece of white cardstock with the GOLD GLOW spritz, and stamped 2 “wood grain” flowers and 3 “thank you print” flowers from the PRINTED FLOWERS set using the SUNBURST ink.  Then i stamped 2 “solid thank you” flowers and 1 “large thank you” flower from the same set onto white cardstock using YELLOW OCHRE FLUID CHALK INK. when the ink dried, i spritzed them lightly with the GOLD GLOW spritz. when all the inks and spritz had dried, i cut out the background and the flowers.

I added the background piece first and topped it with a piece of ribbon near the bottom. i then arranged and adhered all the flowers, having the large “thank you” flower at the lower right.

The Holiday 2009 issue of Nintendo Power magazine is now out and includes a handful of pieces I wrote.  Awesome! Not sure how it happened, but two of my Community articles made it in this time. The first is a piece on Papercraft Museum curator Haywan Chiu’s simply outstanding life-sized papercraft Link from Twilight Princess. I was blown away by his meticulous work, and you can check out the inside scoop on how he put it all together in the article. Seriously. Nice job, dude. The second piece is on Matt Laboone’s giant SNES controller. So cool. This issue also includes my first review for the magazine, Bookworm DS, which I’m psyched about. I have many other Community pieces in the pipeline, so stay tuned.

Going West is a beautiful short film illustrating the worlds in a book, incorporating papercraft to make something dreamlike and wonderful. It was animated by Andersen M Studio.

This paper installation of a city complete with a railway and electric lights, is by Wataru Itou, an art student in Tokyo.  It was constructed over four years and exhibited at the Castle On The Ocean papercraft exhibition.  Now that’s what I call papercraft…

Lo que peor llevo de vivir en otros país es que.. no tengo a mis cosas cercas. Si vale, suena muy materialista, debería echar de menos a los amigos y familia, pero realmente con ellos puedo comunicarme de mil manera. Pero ¿como llamas a tu colección de poster o a tu libro de “como hacer una marca” cuando lo necesitas?.
En serio llevo dos meses aquí y no hay un solo día que no haya pensado. “joer con el libro tan bueno que tenia yo y me serviría justo ahora” o “con esta resaca cojearía mis agujas y me pondría hacer crochet”.
El caso de lo que mas me jode, es tener una habitación opaca. Yo que siempre la he tenido llena de trastos inútiles, con colorines que alegraba la vista cuando tenia que estudiar, ahora simplemente me deprime mi cuarto e intento no estar en él, y claro no hay quien se centre XD. Pero a estar en un país extranjero por tiempo limitado, no es plan de llevarse tu colección de peluches asesinos que quedan divino en tu estantería, asi que toca improvisar.
La mayoría de la gente cuelgan fotos y poster que van encontrando. Pero como yo no soy de las de  imprimir fotos y la verdad que no encuentro ningún poster que realmente valga la pena (es lo que tiene no gustarte el David Guetta  de los cojones y todo ese diseño) asi pues que he  improvisado con papel.
Sobre papercut os hablare en una próxima ocasión cuando tenga la fotos, pero de papercraft (que ya he hablado en otra ocasión) voy a re-hablar y así gano alguna visitas mas, que veo que es un tag muy popular.
El papercraft es super útil, no solo decora si no que es etéreo, es decir, cuando te vas lo reciclas que ya te haras otro en España. Es barato, puesto que imprimir en Lieja no difiere mucho de hacerlo en España, y es entretenido y rápido dependiendo de que modelo elija, así que perfecto para lo domingo de resaca.

Pues ala , ya que os solucionado el sentimiento de quiero una casadiseño a lo ikea . Os dejo con la nueva serie de papercraft,  Speakerdog, que no solo es magnifica sino que es fácil de montar. La cual me he enviciado y practicamente decorando toda  mi habitación con ella.

Origami Turkey & Maple Leaf Placecard

I love it when I find something new and wonderful on the internet. It sparks my creativity. This year I waswanting an elegant but easy placecard for my Thanksgiving table. I had a rough idea of what I wanted in my head and everything I was attemping just didn’t quite cut it. So I thought I would try some origami and went searching for a pattern for an origami turkey. There were a few ‘kiddish’ type ones out there, but my daughter is older now so I wanted something more grownup. I found a couple of great ‘origami master’ type of ones but they didn’t want to share their instructions – and to be quite frank I don’t know if I would have been able to full them off. They seemed much too complicated and time consuming.

That was until I came across a gem on flickr. I made the origami turkey and it looked great. But there was no where to write each guests name, so I designed a lovely placecard to go with it. I am happy with the results and wanted to share them with you.

Paper Replika has a nice new Star Wars model of the T-47 snowspeeder featured in The Empire Strikes Back.  It’s a good example of how the artwork makes a rather uncomplicated model look more detailed than it actually is.  A fun compliment to the AT-AT Walker model featured last year (though not the same scale).

Apartment Therapy has become one of my favourite relaxation/inspiration sites of late.

Today has been a decidedly odd day. My mood has been all over the place, mostly down to my hormones (Tammy Wynette had it right, that’s all I can say) and there was a decent chance you were going to get an outpouring of crap. However, tea and chocolate buns have restored my equilibrium, along with the arrival of this little flock….

I’ve been at my folding work again – mindless repetitive activity really is very calming! These doves are slightly smaller than the previous batch – which means I can put more text on the card. Here’s a close up to show the pattern on the paper a little better…

These have been added to the pile to be stuck onto my blank cards. I’ve been pondering my plans for Christmas over the last few days. I’ve seen lots of things that I like the look of, what I need to do now is marry them up to people who would like them for gifts! Handmade stuff for the blokes in my life (my Dad, my stepdad and my brother) is proving tricky plus I need to remember that my ambition and my skills do not necessarily match up! However, I am confident that I can come up with some good gifts and I’m actually quite excited by the idea of doing it by hand. A cracking blog for those of you in a similar frame of mind is Christmas Matters, which has ideas, recipes and reviews of all things Noel related. Also, if you haven’t signed up for Eileen’s Bauble swap yet, why on earth not? You’ve got until Sunday, you know it makes sense!

Vor kurzem habe ich mich ja schon mit einer kleinen Bastelübung bemüht, und heute hab ich zufällig eine Seite gefunden, die verschiedenste Bastelbögen für Figuren in Anlehnung auf jegliche TV-Movie-Charaktere bereitstellt. Auch wenn es jetzt so aussieht als würde ich unter die Bastler gehen und mein Zimmer nun mit Papierkunst vollstopfen, ist es nicht der Fall! Trotzdem finde ich die verschiedenen Muster echt witzig und kann es nur empfehlen sich da mal durchzuklicken! Da kommt man doch bei der ein oder anderen Figur zum schmunzeln (bei mir war es “Peter Griffin”)

Hinter der Idee steckt übrigens eine relativ große Community, die sich nur mit dieses so genannten “Papercraft-Toys” auseinandersetzt! Wenn man dazu mal googelt, findet man mehrere Seiten von Künstlern, die sich mit “Papier falten” die Zeit vertreiben – und das meißt mit wahnsinns Ergebnissen! (Ohne jetzt im Klischee zu denken, aber wundert es einen dass das meißtens Japaner sind?! Denkt mal drüber nach )
