In the previous components post i spoke about the last components of flashloaded, the 3D Wall. Today, i’m showing a very nice alternative, and cheaper (USD 8.00) of a 3D image gallery. This gallery is based on AS3 and PV3D, and works fine. One of the best feature is that uses the same technique as pic lens, to load images, i mean, as the gallery doens’t need to load all images before start, it works faster than 3D Wall. Although this one don’t offers the same customizable options as 3D Wall.

You can find more nice stock flash files at FlashDen

FlashLoaded launched this week an awesome PV3D component. The 3D Wall, is a Gallery which can displays images on an 3D prespective. The component allows a set of several customizations, which will give always a different layout.

They present 6 examples of what this component can be achieved with this component, and it looks perfect.

Although, in my opinion, there are two things i would change in this component, first, as the gallery takes a while to load all the images, and more images means more time to load, i would be more happy if each thumbnail appeared in the stage uppon on loaded. Second, the slider on the bottom, is intact untill all images are loaded, therefore i would prefer to replace it while loading images as a preloader bar, or simply hide it until all images are loaded.

The cost of the 3D Wall is USD 80, which in point of view make of this component one of the best available when making the relation price / quality.

Tnx Jensa for your great support, by helping me to get this list more complete.

In the last months everyone noticed that everyday, new components and frameworks on 3D have been developed and released to the Flash community.
Here’s a little example by Erik, how easy it is to combine classical GUI elements like the TitleWindow component and Papervision3D to get eye-candy effect. The effect is very similar to the Microsoft Window Vista Aero style. You can also select a window to focus it after toggling into 3D.

As you probably know, Flash is a 2D program. However, there are a handful of open source 3D engines written in actionscript that allow real time 3D environments to be rendered within the flash player. Among these, is Papervision3D, which is probably the most powerful and widely adopted of the engines available.

In this tutorial, we will create a simple 3D gallery for a few photos. Before you get started, you will need to download Papervision3D, and make sure you have a class path within flash pointing to it’s location on your computer.

Currently there are many open source projects in the world flash. I myself am doing one or some, I do not know right now, (my problem is how many of them ends). And a project that was very interesting is currently papervision3d. You can create 3D applications and sites, games and others. Still being created its first version. And to download it is necessary to be registered. Without counting still in this SVN. In this tutorial, you will learn to make a simple application to understand the functioning of this engine 3d graphics. Not go into any details as to the use of 3D objects exported the max, since this is possible but it is not the case of this tutorial. But for now go adiantando is not complicated and you can learn to do this by following this tutorial other in English: http://rozengain.com/?postid=28. Remembering papervision that is not yet released then may make mistakes or certain things like support the animation of fuses is not supported.

Download the latest version of papervision, after it creates a new file in Flash CS3, (not work with earlier versions), enter the path to the engine in the document (publish -> settings. Action Script Version… settings. Classpath add V and direct to the folder where you left the source. Example: D: \ papervision \ as3 \ trunk \ src).

Create a script file of the type and save in the same folder where the file was saved previously created with the name of PapervisionTutorial.

package {
import flash.display.Sprite;
import flash.events.Event;
import org.papervision3d.scenes.Scene3D;
import org.papervision3d.cameras.Camera3D;
import org.papervision3d.objects.Plane;
import org.papervision3d.materials.MovieAssetMaterial;

We created a package and import all classes necessary for our application. The idea that we will apply this tutorial is not intended to create an example that does several things, but a simple plan on the screen, and view important that you understand what you are doing.

Here We import the classes of flash Sprite and Event that use it to create body visible on stage and a loop for the engine respectively. Then there are the imports of the engine. Scene3D will be our scene, Camera3D our camera, Plane with a plan and we finally have MovieAssetMaterial establishing a material from a movieclip not instantiated. For good development with the engine it is important that we look at the classes in each of the sub-packages which belongs. In such objects have the Class ASE used to import 3D models that can be created in programs such as Blender, 3D Max, and Maya.

public class PapervisionTutorial extends Sprite { Public class PapervisionTutorial extends Sprite (
var container:Sprite; Var container: Sprite;
var scene:Scene3D; Var scene: Scene3D;
var camera:Camera3D; Var camera: Camera3D;
var material:MovieAssetMaterial; Var material: MovieAssetMaterial;

Our class and the objects that we use.

function PapervisionTutorial() { PapervisionTutorial function () (
container = new Sprite(); Container = new Sprite ();
addChild( container ); AddChild (container);
container.x = 385; Container.x = 385;
container.y = 225; Container.y = 225;

Constructor, created a container where renderizaremos the scene. We put on stage in the middle of it. This is. As my is with the size of 770 x 450 figures are as shown. If you want other size stage then divide figures.

scene = new Scene3D( container );
camera = new Camera3D();
camera.zoom = 4;
material = new MovieAssetMaterial( “example”, true );
var plano = new Plane( material, 500, 500, 2, 2 );
scene.addChild( plano );
this.addEventListener( Event.ENTER_FRAME, loop3D );

We created the scene, the camera, with zoom equal to 4, and material, (this material you should create a movieclip preferably a movement that has any, and the library linka it as example). After all created a plan with this texture, (if you want can use wire as texture, just leave a null texture). He has size of 500 x 500, and is divided into blocks, 2 blocks horizontally and 2 blocks upright. Added the scene and created by the loop end, (we always important EnterFrame: D).

function loop3D(event:Event):void {
material.updateBitmap();
scene.renderCamera( camera );
} )

Our method loop3D could only have a called method. Only renderCamera. We call updateBitmap as as the name already says, only to upgrade the texture of our plan. If our plan is not moving in its texture is recommended not to do this update since spent processing. If you only want to render an image and not create any animation, could then fail to do the loop and put only a call to renderCamera.

} )
} )

Ready. Control + Enter.

Next post on papervision see movements and animations.

Now, they released their 1st demo, which you can find here. However, let me say one thing, at 1st sight, this demo have much more lower texture detail than PV3D. However it’s always good to have more than one option when we are seeking for web tools, and i beleive that on the near future, the Aviary will get mature and will give us higher texture quality. Other details are not available yet, or at least i didn’t find out, yet.

Hi. Check this video presentation about Aviary. It’s just awesome. Aviary is a platform ecosys

Hi. Check this video presentation about Aviary. It’s just awesome.

Aviary is a platform ecosystem for people who create. It is organized around a suite of rich internet applications geared for artists of all genres. From image editing to typography to music to 3D to video, they have a tool for everything.

All of their tools are based right in the browser. One important thing to know about this tools is that they all communicate and relate to each other. To illustrate an example: You can import a swatch from Toucan into Phoenix, while doing complex bitmap processing of a 3D object developed in Hummingbird.

Phoenix

Image editor.

Toucan

A swatch generator tool and community in one.

Peacock

A pattern generator tool and community in one.

Raven

Vector editor.

Hummingbird

3D modeller.

Myna

Audio editor.

Roc

Music generator.

Hawk

Video editor.

Owl

Desktop publishing tool.

Penguin
