This Lady Gaga phenomenom is weird, When I first saw her, I have to say I hated her, it’s just the (awful) way she dresses. I know she wants/needs the attention, but it’s too much for me. But her music is somenthing else, I don’t specially like it, that was until Papparazzi, which, I have to say, is my guilty pleasure right now. A few days ago I read somewhere on the web that she had teamed with italian artist Francesco Vezzoli for a show at MOCA’s  30th Anniversary Celebration in LA. She sang her new single “Speechless” along a pink piano with butterflies painted by Damien Hirst, while the Bolshoi Ballet danced in the stage in costumes designed by Miuccia Prada. The whole show was, of course, masterminded by Vezzoli; who has often flirted with the show business. Looking Lady Gaga through the “art glass” surely puts things in a different perspective, I at least, stop thinking about her as an extravagant self-centered girl in desperate need of attention, and start considering her as an artist. So, very clever move by Lady Gaga and Vezzoli, both of them getting something from teaming up with each other.

When are those pesky paparazzi ever going to beat it?

It was a close call for Prince Michael, Paris and Blanket (AKA Michael Jackson’s kids) when an overzealous paparazzi out to undoubtedly splash their young faces on some tabloid hit their car.

Well, sort of. The paparazzi instead, rear-ended the security car trailing the vehicle carrying MJ’s kids. And of course, like any smart vulture, the pap took off before the police arrived at the car crash scene.

Fortunately, MJ’s kids weren’t hurt at all since there was a security car between them and the trailing paparazzi.

The fender-bender happened a few miles away from the Jacksons’ compound in Encino. They filed a hit-and-run report at 2:30 p.m.

Hmmm…here’s to hoping the Los Angeles authorities catch the fleeing paparazzi, they should make him pay for the damages and maybe charge him with child endangerment.

Pop Princess Britney Spears has been through a much publicized “crazy period” in her life—I mean, who can forget Britney’s breakdown where she shaved herself bald in her car (and married Kevin Federline)?

But now, she’s turned her life around and has come out with a successful album, she’s actually also kind of hot again now even after two kids.

Now it seems another crazy chapter has been officially closed in her life, a 2007 paparazzi car accident has been recently settled. It can be recalled that Britney ran over Ricardo Mendoza’s foot with her car right outside a Beverly Hills medical building.

(By the way, in 2007, Britney also ran over the feet of a sheriff’s deputy and another paparazzi stalker.)

Since the accident, Mendoza filed a case in May, seeking nearly $230,000 in damages and medical expenses. Mendoza, who was working for TMZ at the time of the accident, alleged that Britney’s people should have known that she was not in the mental, emotional and/or physical condition to operate the subject motor vehicle in a safe and reasonable manner.

Although Britney’s lawyers said that Mendoza positioned and placed himself in the roadway in front of Ms. Spears’ vehicle, the lawsuit was settled for an undisclosed amount.

Now that’s what you call, “Footing the bill!”

I did a post last year called Gradations of Celebrity Sightings after tripping over Boris Becker on my way to work, and we all had fun recounting our most random encounters with The Famous (you New Yorkers always win; for the record, I have since seen Bill Nighy outside Pret a Manger – twice!  So, yeah.). 

On an excellent night out a while ago, my friend Shanelle and I ended up having many, many drinks with a slew of papparazzi who’d been camped outside a nearby hotspot with their heavy-artillery camera equipment.  This was even better than an actual celeb meeting in many ways, as they were happy to share horror stories about their predatory ways and inside scoop on the stalking-for-pay business.  For fun, they even gave us a mini-celeb experience, shouting “Tailfeather!  Tailfeather, over here!” blinding us with flashbulbs and rapid-fire shots, so that passers-by stopped to gawp and try to figure out how we were famous (and we could have been any one of Britain’s roughly 10,000 reality show “stars”).  We giggled, thinking that probably a few of those people would go home and say they saw someone famous outside a Mayfair pub.  “Who was it?”, their friends would ask excitedly.  “I’m not sure… But definitely someone.  One of them was blonde, and there were papparazzi.  It must have been that drunk bird off of Big Brother!”

That evening eventually wound down when the papparazzo who’d been chatting up Shanelle got a text that Leonardo DiCaprio was at a SoHo lounge, and slipped off into the night after a money shot, gruffly whispering at her not to tell any of his friends where he’d gone.  I was reminded of this recently when the boy and I were out for a Thai meal at a little place near Goodge Street and he froze with his fork halfway to his mouth, clearly deaf to whatever riveting story about my office I was in the midst of.  His eyes tracked a group of skinny hipsters as they were warmly greeted and led to the more private dining area downstairs.  “WHAT,” I said.  “You totally just missed the part of my story where Todd stood in front of my desk and clipped his fingernails with my scissors.  That was the climax.  What IS IT.”

He cleared this throat and relaxed.  “Sorry,” he said.  “I’m almost positive Mark Ronson just went downstairs.”  I gasped.  Mark Ronson.  Mark Ronson was cool.  It was not unbelievable that he could be at this Thai restaurant in this fairly groovy part of town on a Saturday, and damned if I wasn’t going to see him for myself, and maybe try to make flirtatious eye contact.  So when we finished our meal, I took a casual stroll downstairs to the ladies’ room.  I could see him out of the corner of my eye as I went in, but would have a full-on view on my return trip.  I washed my hands and checked my makeup, and prepared myself to give Mark Ronson a cheeky grin on my way out, because the sighting would be extra cool if I could get him to smile back at me.

That’s not what happened, however.  When I arrived back at our table to pay the bill, the boyfriend was eager for an update:  “Well?  Did you see him?”  I regarded him coolly across the table.  “No, you peabrain.  I didn’t.  Because that was just some hipster with floppy hair and a checked shirt.  In fact, he looked nothing like Mark Ronson, or even a guitarist in some middling alt-rock band.  He’s was just a normal, random person.  What are you on?”

So the boyfriend was sheepish and I was amused, and for the rest of the weekend I would grab his arm and frantically whisper, “It’s Joe Pesci!” whilst pointing at an elderly woman, etc.  While his mistake was funny, what was more funny was how excited we initially were to see this person we didn’t know, who meant little to us.  Because the prospect of encountering celebrities is exciting, even though it is also, yes, kind of stupid.  Call it one of the many follies of human nature.  Not eager to assuage the boyfriend’s embarrassment and relinquish the amiable mockery I was enjoying, what I was reluctant to tell him about was an embarrassing “sighting” of my own, from when I was about 14. 

This one makes a lot less sense than Mark Ronson near Goodge Street in London (which was not a complete Logic:Fail on the part of the boyfriend).  I was out to dinner with my parents at an Italian restaurant in Texas, and there was a large group of people sitting on the far wall.  And over the course of dinner, I became more and more convinced that this man in the group was Mel Gibson.  I could barely eat I was so starstruck and nervous, especially when I thought he began to notice me (in typical plebeian fashion, the most important thing about seeing a celebrity is if they notice me, thereby validating my sad, non-famous existence, I guess, or maybe it’s just that interaction gives the subsequent anecdote more layers).   If this poor man actually noticed me at all, I can’t say, but if he did, it’s probably because I was flushed with excitement and my adolescent eyes were drilling a borehole through his head for 40 minutes, which would make anyone twitchy.  I don’t know if I had recently seen a Mel Gibson movie or what, but even my parents’ assurances that no, that was not Mel Gibson and yes, I was being ridiculous and should eat my ravioli were not enough to shake my conviction.

It was only later than I came to the sad conclusion that I probably did not see Mel Gibson at Il Sorriso, which is just too bad.  Even many years on, I feel a bit silly about it, although if I actually did see Mel Gibson at McDonald’s now I would probably be able to fake coolness a bit better.  So I ask you:  Have you ever had a false celebrity sighting?

Marcello e Sylvia: a famosa cena na Fontana di Trevi

Você provavelmente já ouviu falar de um filme meio estranho, de um cineasta italiano de nome mais estranho ainda (Federico?), onde uma loira linda, meio esquisita também, mergulha de roupa e tudo numa fonte famosa que fica em Roma (aposto que você sabe o nome da fonte: Fontana de di Trevi) e grita “Marcello! Marcello!”. Se você não reconheceu nenhuma dessas figuras, com certeza já ouviu o termo “papparazzi” e não escapou da influência que A Doce Vida teve, e ainda têm, no imaginário da nossa sociedade.

O filme, do cineasta italiano Federico Fellini, foi re-exibido, quase 50 anos depois de sua estréia, na última semana, no Ciclo Folha de Cinema e Jornalismo. Seria de espantar se eu contasse que a sessão estava lotada?

A obra de Fellini, as atuações de Marcello Mastroianni e Anita Ekberg e, sem dúvidas, a Fontana di Trevi, jamais seriam esquecidas depois de a A Doce Vida. O filme ainda imortalizou o termo paparazzi; referência ao nome do fotógrafo que acompanha o jornalista interpretado por Marcello Mastroianni, em suas andanças pela Roma pós-guerra, responsável por cenas hilariamente constrangedoras.

Pode-se dizer que A Doce Vida é, de fato, inteiramente engraçado e constrangedor. A angústia do personagem Marcello (Marcello Mastroianni), seduzido pela vida frívola da alta sociedade romana, mas ao mesmo tempo infeliz e frustrado, constrange a nós, espectadores, capazes de rir do tédio que ele não suporta, mas do qual não pode escapar, pois, entre outras razões, é divulgando esse cotidiano nos jornais que ele sobrevive.

A temática do filme, a superficialidade da vida burguesa, não é nenhuma novidade, mas nunca, até então, um diretor a retratara de forma tão intensa. Em dados momentos do filme, sentimo-nos mais entediados e acuados do que o próprio Marcello, mas segundos depois estamos rindo gostosamente do fotógrafo Paparazzo, que não tem nenhum escrúpulo e invade todas as intimidades que aparecem pela frente. A direção e a estética de Fellini, tão particulares, se apoderam de nós, e não nos deixam ir a lugar nenhum sem sua permissão.

De 1960, quando o filme estreou e ganhou a Palma de Ouro no Festival de Cannes, para cá, os paparazzi se proliferaram por todas as partes, a sociedade atual é tão ou mais superficial quanto àquela que Fellini ousou descrever. Anita Ekberg, ou Sylvia, tão efêmera em cena quanto a própria doce vida, imortalizou, acompanhada de Marcello, a Fontana di Trevi. No dia da morte de Mastroianni, em dezembro de 1996, vários de seus fãs entraram na fonte durante a noite, em homenagem a cena que mesmo aqueles que não viram o filme sabem qual é. Não há nada menos surpreendente e atual do que uma sala de cinema lotada, quando se trata da exibição deste filme. A Doce Vida permanece como obra de arte; constantemente se re-significando no imaginário cinematográfico mundial.

Tonight I visited the Roper Y in Winter Garden. My family also joined me. This Y has a very nice kids area and the facility itself is quite nice (and large), quite different than the Avalon Y. The staff was very accommodating. I was wearing my Team shirt, so everyone immediately recognized that I am part of the winning team of the Get Fit Club Season 3! Episode 2 was playing on a large tv in the cardio room, which was a little weird. Thank GOD I was not shown in the bathing suit weigh in segment!

My dear husband was kind enough to work out with me tonight. We did the active warmup and strength training routine that Coach Kelly emailed me. I did have to modify the circuit a bit, though because i still have that headache. (Thank you allergies!) We then did cardio intervals in the recumbent bikes. My hubby, who is in good shape and regularly exercises was even struggling to make it through the circuit and bike intervals! I sweat more tonight indoors than I have sweat working outdoors with my team. I’m not sure if that’s because I was pushing myself harder or if the AC was not turned cold enough. I’ll stick with the hard work story!

Tomorrow is our first Team workout shoot at Avalon. We’ll be there from 3-5 for anyone that would like to come cheer us on. I’m told we’ll be taking a yoga class. (I will think of you, Aunt Mo!) I do have a quick conference call to participate in for the first 20 mins. If you’re on that call with me and it sounds like I am having a hard time speaking, I am! I’m likely doing jumping jacks or these torturous side bridges or those other torturous hip raise things with feet in the air. It’s a visual!

It is now time for night night! It has been a long day and I haven’t slept will for a few nights (late workouts and too much on my mind). I will be taking the ambien tonight. So if I start calling you and don’t make any sense, just laugh at my jokes tell me you love me and hang up. Then remember in the morning that you love me, which is why you won’t remind me of my “drunk” dialing!

Let me commence this blog with a statement re The Papparazzi, or the Paps as I will refer to them for the rest of this blog. I don’t really give a shit about them. I don’t buy magazines therefore I don’t contribute towards their income.

The Paps only exist because they are paid insane amounts of money to snap celebrities. The more unique the photo the more they will get paid. Their weapon of choice is generally a digital camera with a telescopic lens so they can get in close enough (from a distance) for the money shot. They will go to extremes to get that money shot too. Hanging out of trees, hiding in bushes, riding on the back of motorcycles are just some of the examples of the Paps risking life and limb to get that shot. It’s crazy.

Is there a place in society for the Paps? Of course. The reason they shit me to tears is the way they get their shots. I think there should be rules of engagement when it comes to snapping celebs. Before I go into those rules it is important to recognise here that celebs do need the Paps. Self promotion amongst celebs is very important, especially the B and C grade celebs. Without the Paps, Paris Hilton would still be spending her families fortune instead of her own. No one knew who Paris was before she grew boobs (which the whole world has seen) and got a gold Amex and then she became the darling of the Paps and one or two sex tapes later the rest is history.

The rules of engagement are listed here with the allowable shots listed first followed by the no go zones.

1. Red carpet awards and premiers
2. Press calls
3. Location shoots
4. Parties/Events

And that is it. Here are the exclusions but not limited to:

1. Celebs homes or holiday locations
2. Celebs kids schools
3. Celebs out for dinner/shopping/movies
4. Celebs attending the doctors/hospital
5. Celebs attending funerals/weddings
6. Celebs attending church
7. Celebs enjoying the great outdoors

Essentially if the celebrity is not out promoting their own work or the work of others at an official, sanctioned event then I think the taking of photographs by the Paps is a gross invasion of privacy and it should be illegal.

We all remember what happened to Princess Diana. It is well known that she died in a car accident in a tunnel in Paris. She was being chased by the Paps and it is widely believed that this was the reason why the driver of her car, crashed, killing her, her boyfriend and himself and seriously injuring her body guard. If there was a no chase rule then history may show that Princess Di lived to be an old lady and the haunting images of the destroyed car and the sad, sad images of her two young sons slowly following her funeral procession would never be seen. They have been seen and I believe that the Paps had something to do with it.

Magazine editors are the ones who can make an immediate impact here. If they refuse to purchase photos of celebs that are not taken within the frame work of the above rules of engagement then these types of photos will begin to slow up. The problem is that unethical magazines such as The National Enquirer will continue to pay, and pay big for unethical pictures.

So if we can’t rely on magazine editors to do the right thing, we need to ask Joe and Joanne Public to do the right thing and refuse to purchase newspapers and magazines that show unethical photos. When this starts to happen then editors will be forced to publish only ethical photos so that their subscription and circulation numbers do not wane. Money talks remember and we, the public can dictate who gets paid.

What is the difference between a shot of Demi Moore on the red carpet and a shot of Demi Moore ordering Starbucks anyway? Nothing. It just confirms that she does normal stuff like we do. Who honestly believes that celebs don’t go food shopping or go to the bank or drink coffee? No one. We all know that celebs are humans just like us, so why do we need to see those photos? I would much rather see a professional shot of Megan Fox on the red carpet in a beautiful dress flashing those beautiful eyes than see her with a hat pulled down over half her face, hiding behind sunglasses cause she is trying to be unrecognisable. I don’t want to see that. Do you?

So do you agree with me? Do you think that celebs are fair game because they get paid shit loads of money? Does that mean that celebs sign away their basic rights to privacy? Do you think there should be a standard Rules of Engagement which applies to the ethical taking of celebrities photos? Do you think I am way off or do you think I haven’t gone far enough? Amber Rose and Kanye were spotting taking a stroll in Soho earlier this week.  I like how they always wear fits that compliment each other.  Check out how furious Kanye looks in some of the pics, while A. Rose is just chilling … lol

Alright, you’re probably saying “duh” right now but I’m sorry, I really thought those suckers were real. I mean they look real. They look soft and seem to hang at the right angle and they actually move with her body.

I guess I just figured they were real because Kim’s are real. Kim’s ARE real, aren’t they?

I don’t even know where to start with this! Other than to say that I am so completely disgusted with both of them! And that I want my money back, or rather, my sister-in-law should get her money back for buying their book. 

About a year and a half ago I started losing interest in the show after having watched it religiously every season. That was when the show stopped focusing on their everyday lives and it morphed into a travel and product placement show. I was less interested in watching the family go from vacation to vacation. From the beaches in North Carolina, San Diego and Hawaii and to the slopes in Utah….all the while staying at high end resorts. It just wasn’t the same. What made the show popular to begin with was that they were a normal family just trying to muddle through it…..just like the rest of us. Now they’re famous reality stars with millions of dollars. The show is not about the children and raising them but about life after divorce and the drama of stardom and paparazzi.

Sorry….I’m not going to feel sorry for you because paparazzi follow you everywhere. If they didn’t take pictures then no one would care and you would no longer have a show. I never feel sorry for celebs when they complain. When it comes down to it they could just quit the “business” and get a 9 to 5 like everyone else. But they don’t. Of course not. Who the hell wants to work at a desk when you can make millions being a celeb?

Back to Jon and Kate….most people say she deserves it, she caused it, she is a horrible, mean person. I agree to an extent. To the extent that I did think she belittled him, talked down to him, treated him as a servant and child. But then again I have no children and have (I’m sorry to admit) been at times as mean to others without having to worry about, take care of and manage 8 children. I can not even begin to imagine.

Jon on the other hand is definitely going through a quarter life crisis. They were married so young (By young I mean early twenties. Please people, wait until your late twenties or thirties! There’s no rush!) and then the entire time they were married she pretty much told him what to do, where to be, who to be. And I think that he liked that. Because he didn’t know who he was and so he became who she wanted him to be and that felt good. To have a predetermined path and a foundation, one that you didn’t have to carve out yourself. Flash forward ten years, eight kids, entry into the early thirties and thanks to his reality show he was finally able to look into the mirror (the crazy, skewed mirror that is reality TV) and realize that he was not that person and no longer wanted to follow along. So he’s moved on…..and on….and on….and on again, seemingly from one stupid young chick to another. Someone, anyone who he has power and influence over….finally.

I love Reality TV. It’s addicting, sickening, frivolous, unimportant and oh such good fodder! My faves are Tori and Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood, Project Runway, Top Chef, Little People Big World, 18 Kids and Counting, Rachel Zoe Project…..so many more I’d have to check the DVR to get the names! My other favs are the Discovery and TLC channel crazy medical shows like: the 300 pound tumor, tree man, conjoined twins, I didn’t know I was pregant…..love those! I’ll be posting my commentary on these shows as I watch them….finally someplace to vent my crazy, unimportant and useless thoughts about these useless shows! What fun! My husband can finally watch a show in peace and quiet while I type away!

They take meds to deal with the pressures of fame!

It shouldn’t be that way.

We should look out for them, make sure they are healthy and happy!

Let’s enjoy our stars but don’t wear them out with our demands.

Give them some respect and privacy from time to time.

They need a little R&R every now and then!
