Parabis, which carries on business under the names of Plexus Law, which represents defendants, and Cogent Law, which represents plaintiffs, had previously applied for recognition as an alternative business structure (ABS) under the U.K.’s Legal Services Act, which allows non-lawyers to participate in the ownership and management of law firms.  Overall, Parabis handles about 200,000 claims a year.

The transaction is the first LBO under the legislation.
