Just wanted to let you all know about the upcoming Christmas Eve Celebration here at the church. Service starts at 6pm with fellowship and refreshments to follow. Plan for a intimate time of worship and the reading of God’s Word to appreciate all that the birth of Jesus really means. Bring a friend or family member!

Hello everyone,

Just wanted to share a few things regarding some changes going on at the church. First and foremost, please note we will be meeting at 1578 Creek Street for all regular and midweek services until further notice. This begins Wednesday, December 16th, 2009 and the new church schedule is as follows:

Sunday Morning Prayer 9:15am

Sunday School 9:45am

Sunday Worship Service 10:30am

Wednesday Evening 7pm

Secondly, please note the new church phone number. Due to circumstances beyond our control, we had to make a change with the church phone number. The new number is: (585)734-0416. You will see this change reflected on the church website already.

Finally, the prayer chain email now includes my Wednesday night’s Study Notes. This prayer email is available to all, but we do not send it to anyone who has not asked us to do so. If you are not on the list, let us know ASAP and we’ll be sure to add you. If you have a prayer request, feel free to let us know that too.

That’s all for now. Talk to you soon!

Agape,

It was an average fall day in September today with a cool breeze and partly cloudy skies but this did not deter several thousand folks from coming out to enjoy the North Winton Village Arts Festival. This was the 3rd Annual celebration of the event and our church facilitated a kids’ zone/ comfort station. This is something the festival had never had before and enabled many more families to come out and enjoy the event.

Many people stopped to enjoy the popcorn, water, cotton candy and coffee offered with the diaper changing comfort station available. Our good friend, Anne Longo, was on hand to provide face painting to several young people. Our main attraction was the inflatable “bouncy house” that brought hours of fun for about 200 kids and kids at heart.

Overall we were able to talk to several dozen people about the life changing Gospel of Jesus Christ as well as make many new friends in our community. We all look forward to having the opportunity to doing this again next year as we look for ways to bring Jesus to the world and bridge the church with the community.

Hello everyone,

BRRRR! It’s been a little cooler these last few mornings. I trust you are all well and staying warm as we approach the autumn months that lay ahead. Here are a handful of prayer requests for your lists:

Please pray for Rev. Francis Hanks and all of our brothers and sisters at Rochester Baptist Church. Pastor Hanks has been diagnosed with Cancer and is undergoing Chemotherapy.

Please also pray for Rev. Terry Robertson, our BCNY Executive Director, and his family as his father passed away this week after a long illness.

Please pray for my good friend Pastor Stanley Mukhwana in Bungoma, Kenya. His wife, Celestine has been very ill. Pastor Mukhwana and is family also need prayer for their church to receive the iron sheets needed to cover it from the elements. Pastor Stanley also asks for prayer for teachers and supplies for the neighborhood children in the orphanage to learn and grow.

Please pray for my friend, Rev. Jamie Cole and his wife Gina and family as they minister in Aquadilla, Puerto Rico. Their home has been damaged by the storms and someone stole their only goat recently.

Please pray for our new friends in two local Spanish churches, Rev. Antonio Gonzalez of Inglesia Christiana Un Nuevo Comienzo and Rev. Marcos Pantojas of Restoration Life Christian Fellowship. Both of these Pastors, their families and their respective churches have a real heart for Jesus and desire to work together as much as possible to share the Gospel with our city.

Please pray for the Neighborhood Festival outreach our church is doing next Saturday with the North Winton Village Association. We have been given free reign for the Kids’ Zone at the festival and will be using the Block Party Trailer and as many volunteers as the Lord provides for reaching the families in our area with the Gospel.

Please pray for Missionaries Roy and Melanie Sietmann as they continue to seek direction, wisdom and resources to go to Mexico. They are being sent by Walker Bible Baptist Church in Hilton, NY and happened to stop by last Wednesday for prayer and Bible Study with us.

Please pray for Teresa’s uncle, Denny Parks as he continues with his cancer. The doctors have offered no hope but his new found faith in Christ provides for where man has no hope. Please pray for more opportunities for us to visit him in Pittsburgh, PA as he faces the last stretch of his life here on earth.

Please pray for the “fact finding” mission team that desires to visit us in the coming weeks from First Baptist of Richmond, KY. We have a long standing relationship with this church through Dr. Hewlett and Ron Boyd and others are seeking to visit and determine how they can help us with badly needed church repairs, resources and VBS help for next summer.

Please also pray for the success of Friday’s outreach to the homeless and the message I will be sharing with them. Please pray for an indoor facility in that area that can accommodate this ministry in the colder months.

Please also pray for Teresa, who is suffering from a Lupus flare-up and is in much more pain than usual.

On a final note, please pray for the group tomorrow that is heading over to Grace UMC on Driving Park to assist with the funeral of a 12 year old girl named Camry McKnight. She was shot last Friday on Weyl Street in Rochester and died on Saturday. Pray that God would minister to the family and the mourners during this difficult time. Pray that the shooter would be apprehended so that people can have closure and that God would be glorified in this somehow.

It was a beautiful late summer day at Nathaniel’s Square Park and the Spirit of God was abundantly present as we spent the afternoon reaching out to the homeless in our area. Many of us from the church have been able to partner with Restoring the City Ministries to reach the homeless of our area with a hot meal, encouragement and the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

About 40 men and women of all ages came to receive some pizza to eat along with juice and coffee to drink. In addition, the folks at Balsam Bagels have blessed us and given us dozens of bagels to bring with us for our homeless friends as well.

While enjoying the meal I have had the priviledge over the last several weeks of sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ to them, offering spiritual food for their hungry hearts. We plan to return to Nathaniel Park each Friday through the middle of October. We begin around 1pm and the whole outreach usually lasts about an hour or so. We welcome all who would like to attend to contact the church for more details at (585)880-4069.

Hello everyone,

Last night several of us attended the FLBA Summer Hymnsing Picnic with our brothers and sisters in Christ at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Geneseo, New York. It was a great night of praise, worship, prayer and food! There were about 40-50 people representing about 4 or 5 churches in our regional association. Not only did Teresa, Joe, Dylan and I lead in a few worship songs and hymns but Marge Hewlett led us in a beautiful acapella song as well.

Hello everyone!

There has been so much activity the last few weeks. Admittedly, I’ve not been able to keep up. So here’s a synapsis of a handful of great church events that have taken place since the beginning of the month.

Pastor Jay Parkman and Rochester Mayor Bob Duffy

Last week our church hosted the “National Night Out Against Crime” with Our Section 8 PAC TAC and the Rochester Police Department. We had about 200 folks attend, a parade and visits from many incredible people such as Mayor Duffy and Police Chief Moore.

Many thanks to our friends in PAC TAC as well as Officer Rob Weitzel for all of thier support and fellowship before, during and since the event. We are all looking forward to when we do this again in 2010.

Here comes the parade!

During the event we had a big parade. There were about 40 adults and children involved along with our local Fire Department in one of their trucks. Offier Rob led the way in his patrol car to add to the fun. After the parade, everyone enjoyed pizza, snow cones, popcorn, cotton candy, face painting and “bounce house” fun in the church parking lot.

Fun on the Fairway!

Here you can see the “fairway” where all the food was situated. If you look closely, you will see an older gentleman with a blue baseball hat. That’s Dr. Hewlett, our 97 year old founding pastor and to my knowledge, he has never missed a single community event in his 30 years here at the church!

Pastor Jay Parkman with the PAC TAC crew

One of the many great things about this event was our ability to “test” out the equipment provided in the block party trailer from our Finger Lakes Baptist Association. This is where the “bounce house”, popcorn maker, etc. comes from. Our next opportunity to use these items will be on September 26th at he North Winton Village Arts Festival. It is there that we will be providing a “Kids Zone” for the children and their families.

Be sure to watch the incredible video Teresa made of the night by clicking on this link here:

http://www.browncroftbaptist.org/video/nightoutvideo.wmv

Many of the folks in PAC TAC are also involved with the Browncroft Neighborhood Association. The BNA often meets in our church Fellowship Hall. Every Summer they also have a picnic down in Ellison Park. My wife Teresa and I attended this a few Wednesdays ago before our 7pm prayer meeting and Old Testament Bible Study.

BNA President Bob Genthner at the grill

Did I mention the picnic we had at Steve and Silvia Swetman’s yet? Well, we squeezed that into our calendar as well. Many of our church family attended and it was an absolutely gorgeous day for it!We had about 30 or so people attend.

Hello everyone!

This past Saturday we all had a great time with several youth coming together for a friendly game of basketball in the church parking lot. Afterward, everyone enjoyed the pool and some hot dogs at the home of Steve and Silvia Swetman. The most exciting part was when three of the boys said they wanted to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior.

With the help of Teresa Parkman as well as Steve and Paula Nichols we plan to offer a youth night every Friday from 6-8pm. We will have a short Bible Study and refreshments available. Weather permitting we will play outdoor games such as kickball and basketball. Inside we have a pool table, ping pong table, air hockey, puppet theatre, Wii games and more!

Come on out and join the fun!

Every Sunday at the church we look forward to several things, two of them being meeting new people and giving away Bibles. This Sunday was no exception!

Pictured here are Arianna, Yaminah and Christina. They were able to join us today for worship and had a wonderful time with the Browncroft Baptist family. During every service I ask if everyone has a Bible of their very own as we as Christians all agree as to how important that is. After the service, Arianna and Yaminah asked if they could have Bibles of their own (Christina said she had a picture Bible at home and would bring it next time.) The girls plan to share some special music with us when they can visit us again in two weeks. God is so good!

As many of you know we are in our second week of prayer walking through our neighborhood. Every Thursday night from 7-8:30pm we are going door to door sharing the Gospel, praying for and encouraging our neighborhood. At the same time, there are some who remain at the church and pray. So far, we’ve visited about 60-70 homes and had a very good reception overall.

Please continue to pray as we seek to reach our whole community with the love of God through Jesus Christ.

Yes, Rick Worthy (a former star from the Star Trek series) joins Heroes as Matt Parkman’s partner in LAPD.

It seems Worthy’s character will take care of Matt’s education as a cop and as guide for his personal life.

We have to remember Matt wasn’t exavtly the smarter cop in LA and now in this new stage of his family (that he started with a horrible secret) the advice of a partner would be a good thing for the mindreader.

According to this information, Matt would show up only until episode three, 4×03 so we have to wait to see him, but I’m glad he does with a great storyline.

It was a beautiful day at the church today. The weather was warm, the sun was shining and the worship was such a blessing. Our verse by verse study of God’s Word has been the Gospel according to Mark where we discovered many application points from Mark 10:13-16. In addition to Lord’s Supper, we also celebrated the birthday of a dear friend of the church family, Arleda Williams.

Arleda lives and worships down in Florida, but when she visits “up North” you can always find her here at Browncroft Baptist Church. We love you Arleda and pray for many happy returns!

Hello everyone,

Every 3rd Saturday of the month our Pastor’s wife, Teresa Parkman, hosts a brunch for the ladies of the fellowship that brings together teaching from God’s Word, prayer and a relaxed atmosphere to openly talk about the challenges and joys of being a daughter of God in Christ.

This past month Teresa began a verse by verse study in the book of Ruth that challenges the ladies to apply several key points into their lives. Many thanks to Arleda Williams and her daughter Debbie for all of their help with the delicious food.

For more information about these and other gatherings for the ladies, contact the church office at (585)880-4069 or email Teresa@BrowncroftBaptist.org.

This episode was truly a bundle of joy, arguably the best 40 minutes of Heroes this entire Season. We end Volume IV, to begin Volume V, ‘ Redemption’. The preview for the next volume didn’t impact me as well as the one for Volume IV, but it looks like there going to be back at the same place. We also get repercussions for having powers through Hiro!

Speaking of Hiro Nakamura, the writers have finally come around to show Human side-effects for having abilities. As far as i remember Dr. Suresh had side-effects with his strength ability. But never was he told that when he’d use his power again he would die. Hiro Nakamura was given an unsightly fate, and it might mean we won’t be seeing much of Hiro next season. Or Dr. Suresh or maybe the company might make a magic potion to help Hiro. Who knows? Maybe there might be another time traveller? If peter touches Hiro, he will inherit his powers, or atleast know how it works because he now has Sylar’s power.

The final showdown between Sylar and Nathan Petrelli ended in a unilateral blood bath. When your going against Sylar you need more fire power than just the ability of flight. Even if your travelling at mach speed, Sylar can probably move out of the way. So we see the last of Nathan Petrelli? Oh no. The producers really like Adrian Pasdar so they got Matt Parkman to change Sylar into Nathan. To what end? I mean there is a significance, i think that if Sylar finds that constant or that crystal ball, which his mother gave him. That he’ll go back to being Sylar. It’s confusing, because we don’t know how developped Matt Parkman’s ability is. Can Matt Parkman really do this? I think we need the Haitian to really erase Sylar’s memories. But knowing Sylar, he might overcome that and piece together random things together.

Dr. Suresh’s narrative at the end is true, we are really made up of disjointed memories and experiences. Thats who we truly are, taking upon another host body or trying to be someone else won’t do it. You need their memories, but you also need to loose your own. I just remembered something! Sylar tried to start a relationship with Claire, and i remember in a previous season where he lived in the same house. This time Sylar was good, so maybe they do end up together. But it would be a sort of incest if Sylar was in Nathan’s body? I doubt it, anyways we also have to check out the return of Tracy Strauss. She also reminds of a character in x-men mutant cartoon, i just can’t recall. So it’s going to be interesting season 4? Maybe, but they need to stop putting these fillers and give the audiences more substance!

… have been busy! I worked about 26 hours just on saturday and sunday… I just had my interview with walt disney records! I will hear back from them later this week. I also found out that the tv show I’m working on will be getting pitched to bobby flay as well! and I am getting my mixes and scores done for some of the films I am working on. Sunday I volunteered at this event called Heroes For Autism, Band from TV played a benefit concert for the Autism Speaks charity. and the cast from the TV show Heroes was there. I hungout with them and some of the musicians and got to work backstage as a tech. I set up gear for Doyle Bramhall (Eric Clapton’s guitar player), Mike Elizondo (Dr. Dre’s Bass Player), and Jeremy Stacey (Drummer for Sheryl Crow & Black Crows), I watched the show standing next to Jeff Beck (Clapton & Page’s replacement in the Yardbirds, Jeff Beck Group). Pretty cool day even though it was a long one (15hrs)! I also got to talk with Greg, Jamie and Adrian again, this whole networking thing out here is kinda sweet! My record label is also a few steps closer to existence, I have been able to discuss it with the people I want to work with, and they are all on board with me and as excited as I am about it! The next couple of weeks we will be finalizing the business plan and setting up meetings with venture capitalists.

I loved Cold Snap. I never thought I’d say that about an episode that quasi-needlessly killed

I loved Cold Snap. I never thought I’d say that about an episode that quasi-needlessly killed off my favorite character since the originals were introduced. Oh yeah, spoilers if you haven’t seen it yet.

I wonder how much psychology writers study when putting together a TV show. Rebel was who we’d all expected but somehow that makes me happy. Something tells me they knew this. They knew it was obvious but were throwing us a bone for once because we like to be right.

I’ve come to the conclusion that Bryan Fuller + Heroes = Gold. Hell, Fuller + TV = Gold. It’s amazing the change that can happen with just one person. This was a whole different episode than we’ve seen for a long time. I would even hazard to say that this was one of my favorite episodes ever despite the fact that less happened than we’ve been used to in a typical episode. We’ve continued to do this half cast thing where some story lines get left behind for entire episodes. I’m okay with this but maybe it’s a sign you’ve got too many characters, it’s going too many places at once that it can’t be contained in one package.

Matt and Daphne got the perfect send off. I will say that they’ve been the only successful relationship the show has managed, not counting Matt and Mohinder because it’s only half canon. I wish they could have had a few things though. I wish they would have kissed. A real kiss. They’re in love, she’s dying and all you’ve got is a kiss on the forehead? I think if we were to be true to the story there would have been some fur rug in front of the fireplace action but network doesn’t want to see that from anybody but Nathan and the Ali Larter of the week because clearly nobody in the world actually looks like Matt and Daphne, that would be unrealistic. I also wish that they could have had an entire episode to themselves. I don’t mean taking over the show, I mean one whole episode where Matt could focus on her and her dying or her being shot without something else coming in, even if he didn’t know about it. Like his wife coming back. I get that they’ve gotta move, there’s not much time left but it seemed like a slap in the face to Daphne’s death to introduce Janice back so quickly, especially with the baby. Parkman is the resident soap opera. I’d love to see just a flash of Matt going to Daphne’s dad, with like music playing over it. He doesn’t even have to say anything just to acknowledge the death, what it meant and that her father existed in our world but I know that wont happen.

Despite these things I thought it was a great episode and the perfect way for Daphne to go, considering she was doomed to die from the start. It was romantic, sweet and heartfelt. I am contented.

Sigh!

Well, well, if it isn’t about time! What an amazing episode! I don’t know know where to

Well, well, if it isn’t about time! What an amazing episode! I don’t know know where to begin. It first started out like most of the episodes this season, like their was a flaw in the story or editing. At the end of the previous episode, Sylar was in Danko’s apartment and in this episode the only thing we saw of Sylar being in his apartment was the Pocket Master dangling from curtains and cords like a puppet. Other than that, the show was awesome!

Matt Parkmen’s baby has a power
Micah is Rebel as we all suspected
Hiro can stop time again, but only because of Baby Touch and Go
Tracy has a “cold snap” and Danko shoots her frozen body
But out of her frozen bits, she blinks? did she really die?
Peter saves Mommy Dearest
Daphne gets a sweet goodbye

This episode really put Heroes back on track. Hopefully people who have given up repeatedly on the show watched this episode, trusting the commercial statements over the last 2 weeks which declared it a “classic”. It truly was. Bought it back to season 1 material in my opinion. I’m a die-hard Heroes fan but lately I haven’t been as thrilled to turn on my DVR late Monday night early Tuesday morning and watch the episode. The excitement wasn’t there because the story was lacking a cohesiveness. The feeling is back guys. “Cold Snap” had Heroes snapped back to greatness in my opinion. Can’t wait for next week’s episode “Into Asylum”. Into Asylum either means they’re going to try to find a shelter, or their going to seek protection in another country. (don’t see why they can’t just go to some other country) Can’t wait though!
