Tinie Tempah kicks off his Parlophone debut with this new video for the anthem, Pass Out.

Pass Out looks more like a taster for what is expected to come from the new major label signee, Tinie Tempah has put in a lot of work for this moment right here, so it is only fair for him to be the focus of this video, complete with special effects and a host of cameos from the likes of Skepta, JME, G-FrSH & Wretch32.

It is definitely a new step for Tinie, but he seems more than ready, expect more big things to come from Tinie Tempah and Parlophone/EMI in 2010.

The following is a list of the ten albums that I feel, are the best releases in the last 10 years.  None of the decisions were made based on critical acclaim but merely on what I think are the most progressive and meaningful albums from 2000 to the present.  Every band is trying to do something different with their music and the following are examples of success in that goal.  Every one of these has a quality or style that is purely unique and influential.

10: TV On The Radio – Return to Cookie Mountain (2006, 4AD / Interscope)

While Return to Cookie Mountain is not the most recent release by the band it is certainly the most notable.  On this album billows of drum and guitar sound accompany a very vocal-based album that is melodic and sing-able at times and merely a wall of sound at others.  The band, which operates out of Brooklyn, has created a name for itself in its unique genre-less compositions similar only to that of Radiohead and top 40 radio in Mars.

9: Akron/Family – Set ‘Em Wild, Set ‘Em Free (2009, Dead Oceans)

While everything on the album is recognizably Akron/Family, the album spans genres inexplicably.  Starting in a bit of a dirty blues-rock feel and moving through electronic tracks and folk concoctions, the band even hits on some borderline scream punk just to say they did it.  Often, transitions between acoustic and more electronically derived tracks are rough and uncomfortable but this Frankenstein of an album dances gracefully the entire time.  The band, from New York City, remains relatively undiscovered but they ought to be.  Akron/Family has a lot to add to the musical scene and effectively captures the style that many bands strive for.

8: The xx – xx (2009, Young Turks)

The xx is amazingly simple but still a sound that’s very rarely made.  The London quartet functions with two vocalists in what seems like a dialogue relationship.  Overall, nearly every song has a calm intensity to it that satisfies repeatedly.  xx is greatly successful for the group’s first release so releases in the future will surely be under radar.

7: The Arcade Fire – Funeral (2004, Merge)

I don’t know what to call The Arcade Fire’s but after I saw a concert on the Neon Bible Tour I was convinced that they were the house band from Eli Sunday’s church in There Will Be Blood. Apparently, living in Haiti leaves you pretty oblivious to American culture and the way music is being made over here because The Arcade Fire has created in Funeral an experience that is completely different than anything…ever.  There is a very eerie vibe surrounding the album and a deep emotion that lies within it.

6: Why? – Alopecia (2008, Anticon)

Lead singer Yoni Wolf’s music is disturbingly honest but for some strange reason that is what keeps you coming back for more. Alopecia says everything you’ve wanted to say but haven’t had the guts.  It’s Jewish hip-hop that in all the ways Matisyahu is not.  Whereas most hip-hop is about the ego, Alopecia is about life.  These are stories of bad decisions, failures, and missed opportunities and they are all presented in very honest and effective ways.

5: The Decemberists – The Hazards of Love (2009, Capitol)

With the bands fifth release, The Decemberists delve even deeper into the story-telling style that they are known for.  On this album every track flows seamlessly to the other and themes come and go throughout the duration of the album representing the stories that are interwoven inside it.  The band draws on its resources for The Hazards of Love as Shara Worden of My Brightest Diamond, Becky Starke of Lavender Diamond, and Jim James of My Morning Jacket are all brought in to play various characters in the stories and provide vocals for the album.  The Hazards of Love is a seamless blend of music steeped in an ancient troubadour tradition and converted by modern themes and musical styles into what can best be described as a musical.

3: Bright Eyes – I’m Wide Awake Its Morning (2005, Saddle Creek)

When Conor Oberst double released Digital Ash In A Digital Urn and I’m Wide Awake It’s Morning in 2005 he had officially divided his music in two.  Previous albums, which had mixed darker and more electronically-derived tracks like “Lover I Don’t Have to Love” with folk tunes like “Bowl of Oranges” had given birth to both a pair of very different-looking twins.  While Digital Ash was ill-recieved, I’m Wide Awake its Morning broke into an entirely different well of musical possibilities.  Not only did this album influence every Bright Eyes release since, it also spawned tons of followers in what is now “indie-folk”. Conor Oberst is the Bob Dylan of his time.

2: Radiohead – Kid A (2000, Parlophone / Capitol)

Kid A marks the transformation of Radiohead from a band to a soulless fucking robot.  Fortunately it is the soulless fucking robot that people prefer.  Its amazing that an album as experimental as this one achieved as much success as it did but even though Kid A debuted without a single or music video, it was able to draw itself enough attention to go platinum in a week.  You know the rest.

1: Department of Eagles – In Ear Park (2008, 4AD)

You may not have expected this one but I have a strong faith that, although very undiscovered In Ear Park is the greatest album that has been released all decade.  There is a huge difference between bands that record songs and bands that record art.  In Ear Park is not about chords and progressions but about what the music does when it gets inside your head.  While Department of Eagles consists of just Daniel Rossen (also known for work in the band Grizzly Bear) and Fred Nicolaus, this particular album was scored on a huge scale.  Starting out from the very beginning with a pretty simple guitar melody the album soon erupts into a very symphonic experience that will make your hairs stand on end.

If you’re a music fan looking for a taste of something different, unique and thrilling, Late of the Pier’s ‘Fantasy Black Channel’ is a fantastic purchase, packed with twelve original and exciting tracks. The four-piece band from Castle Donnington have taken music to a new level, bringing us an album full of fast paced energetic rave sounds and futuristic synths behind Samuel Eastgate’s versatile vocals throughout. The studio album its self is wonderfully crafted, the opening track ‘Hot Tent Blues’ merging into a fast paced, choppy ‘Broken’, as well as ‘Mad Dogs and Englishmen’ coming to an anticlimax before becoming the opening of ‘Bathroom Gurgle’.

The lyrics throughout the album at times seem almost schizophrenic, the lyric structure in many songs incomprehensible due to the broken syntax and high pitched screaming of Eastgate’s vocals. ‘Bathroom Gurgle’, the closing song of the album is stated as ‘unknown’ when viewing the song lyrics on the Late of the Pier official site, which summarises much of the lyrics throughout the album. The lyrics of which are comprehendible seem intoxicated and revolving escapism and light hearted ‘easy-life’ “lately i’ve been thinking this whole world seems too hard and i’d be better off to undo everything” from ‘Random Firl’ as well as the repetition of “easy life, is it an easy life” throughout ‘The Enemy are the Future’. In tracks such as ‘V W’ lyrics are completely put aside so the audience can marvel over the experimental synth sounds throughout the song.

Late of the Pier have created a highly unique exciting new sound, maybe not appealing to everyone – but nevertheless have found a gap in the market giving them high chances of progression. If you enjoy the categorised ‘new rave’ music, Klaxons or similar sounds then this album is certainly for you. ‘Fantasy Black Channel’ contains great sounds, a great vocalist and one ‘must buy’ album.

Isso aí. O ex-líder dos Smiths soltou uma nota oficial pedindo para os fãs não comprarem as duas caixas especiais que saem em outubro e novembro, reunindo boa parte dos singles da carreira solo do cara. O motivo é simples: grana.

Acontece que o cinquentão não foi consultado pela gravadoras EMI, HMV ou Parlophone sobre o lançamento. E, como já acontece com seu catálogo desde 1992, não receberá nenhuma partezinha das vendas.

Sacanagem com ele, mas principalmente sacanagem com os fãs. Os boxes são divididos cronologicamente, um com os singles de 1988 a 1991 e outro de 1991 a 1995. Ao todo, serão 19 discos – sim, vinis – com os singles oficias e seus respectivos lados B.

Fiquei pensando: você deixaria de comprar um material de colecionador desses se o próprio ídolo em questão pedisse?

Nota: Natasha Khan volta com mais um clip enigmatico,  com coisinhas e simbolos espalhados. A cena dela se escondendo e entrando na casa, me lembrou uns clips doido da Björk, mais uma vez provando ser fonte de inspiração. Adorei bastante o clip, e claro eu já esperava um clip desta canção, singles me atrai.

En Octubre de 1990, lanzan su cuarto álbum de estudio, Behaviour, el que significó un cambio en su estilo, un poco menos bailable. Album inspirado en Violator de Depeche Mode, según afirmó Tennant.

Había escuchado los promocionales, que me habían impresionado por ser un sonido totalmente apartado a como se identifica Pet Shop Boys. Mi sorpresa fue que Johnny Marr (The Smiths) está invitado como guitarrista en la canción  My October Symphony, convirtiendose en una «probadita» para lo que meses más tarde significaría el grupo Electronic.

También debo indicar que no soy fan de Pet Shop Boys, incluso puedo decir que este es el único álbum que me ha dado gusto escuchar en su totalidad.

C’est avec Two Suns que Bat For Lashes aka Natasha Khan signe le successeur de Fur & Gold. Fur & Gold, salué par la chronique, porté aux cieux par les mélomanes, se devait donc d’avoir un successeur à sa hauteur, si ce n’est mieux. C’est réussi.

L’album est plutôt mystique, avec tout ce que l’on pouvait oser. Il s’ouvre avec la voix de Natasha Khan sur Glass et nous met dans l’ambiance dès le début : arrangements sophistiqués, rythmes presque tribaux, mélodie imparable… Vous voilà dans l’ambiance. L’album est bon, même très bon malgré quand même quelques défauts comme la ligne de synthé dans Sleep Alone. Il ne s’enlise pas dans un alignement de titres pop accrocheurs, mais s’engage plus dans la voie de l’album recherché, où les titres s’enchainent et demandent, pour certains, une attention véritable. Certaines chansons sont faciles, je pense à Daniel (mais qui n’en est pas pour autant mauvaise, loin de là !), tandis que d’autres tendent presque vers le gospel par moment lorsque les arrangements de derrière s’effacent pour laisser une voix seule (Peace Of Mind). Tout ça peut même devenir dansant avec Siren Song ou d’une douceur absolue avec  Moon And Moon. Natasha ose ce que beaucoup de gens n’osent pas : la diversité.

D’aucuns pourront penser que tout cela est bien “trop propre”, “trop brillant”, ce qui n’est pas forcément faux, mais c’est sans doute voulu, puisque on trouve tout de même la personalité bien marquée de Natasha Khan dans tout ce CD. Annoncée comme héritière de Björk, elle n’en a peut être pas encore la carrure mais en a peut être le potentiel.
