GQ – Disco Nights

En av mina trognaste bloggbesökare, Dick, kom med ett riktigt Scoop i kommentarerna till ett tidigare inlägg med TS Monk. Låten med GQ känner nog de flesta, som har lite koll på gammal disco, igen. Vad jag inte visste men som Dick upplyste mig om är att delar av GQ tidigare spelade under namnet Rhythm Makers och 1976, dvs två år innan GQ släppte Disco Nights, spelade de in följande spår.

Rhythm Makers – Soul On Your Side

Känns lite som man hört det förut, eller hur! :O Finns iofs fler liknande fall i musikhistorien men sällan något som är så extremt tydligt. Det närmaste jag kan komma på är när Fresh Band ohämmat lånade från Slaves Just A Touch Of Love till sin Come Back Lover. Fast då var det ju inte så att det var samma killar som gjorde en remake utan ett gäng som lånade ett tema från en uttans bra låt. Hade upp detta exempel i ett inlägg för nåt år sen som finns att läsa på bloggen för den som är intresserad.

Vill i alla fall tacka Dick för all input jag får genom hans kommentarer. Det sporrar en att få lite tips och inspiration, då lixom lyfter man sig ett snäpp och försöker skriva om sådant som är lite intressant och har en historia. Annars skulle det ju vara busenkelt att bara mata ut låtar på bloggen och visst finns det perioder när man inte är 100% på topp utan bara plockar låtar ur backloggen. Men för det mesta försöker jag få till något vettigt av klippen jag hittar så att det inte bara blir en räcka nostalgiska klipp på bloggen utan även lite att läsa oxå för den som är intresserad.

Mew was amazing. Fantastic. Wonderful. Magic. Breathtaking. Tear-inducing. Highly applaudable. I haven’t cried like I did under White Lips Kissed in a long time, and I haven’t felt that bubble of joy bubble up so many times in so little time for as long as I can remember. They were… Amazing.

All in all, yesterday was quite amazing. Well, nothing topped the concert, but my company there was highly desirable and with a well-planned outfit and a good feeling (even after 7 hours of work) the night couldn’t not be a success. After that mind-blowing bomb of a concert we practically ran to our next stop, J&D’s birthday party. Of course we came after it had sort of ended, but where there’s people, there’s party (at least when the booze is flowing. Has flown. Or something).

So we ended up staying there, and later I ended up in a taxi home to my stressed-out mom (I know you do it because you love me, mom), and half-passed out in my bed at around 4. It was very good to fall asleep in my own bed, but no matter how comfortable the bed it wouldn’t help the feeling this morning. Also, everything was a bit fail since I didn’t fall properly asleep again after seven-ish when Tøffen decided to wake me. Shitkid.

Anyways, things I thought were clear are now clearer, and it seems that I’ve been fogging my eyes with belief. How naïve. But one can’t be blamed for trying, right?

Mein Studentenleben hält mich in Atem. Nachdem ich jahrelang in Träumen über wilde Partynächte zwischen philosophischen Diskussionsrunden und viel Freizeit geschwelgt habe, hat mich spätestens in der vergangenen Woche die Realität eingeholt. Zumindest wir Studenten in Oude Stad wissen wie man hart arbeitet.

Generell möchte ich mich ja nicht beklagen, denn müsste ich nicht nebenher arbeiten, wäre mein Studium zwar nicht wesentlich weniger anstrengend als mein vorheriges Arbeitsleben, aber ich hätte zumindest ein kleines bisschen mehr Freizeit. Da mir aber leider eine reiche Geburt versagt war, trete ich nun diese Woche meine Arbeitstelle im Weihnachtswahnsinn an. Vier Wochen lang soll ich die Kunden eines großen Kaufhauses betreffend Parfum und Schmuck beraten. Wer mich näher kennt wird diese Vorstellung sehr absurd finden – ungefähr genau so absurd wie ich diesen Vorschlag meiner zukünftigen Chefin fand (An dieser Stelle sei erwähnt, dass die Chefsekretärin den Jackpot gezogen hat und die Spielwarenabteilung betreut *grmpf* *neid*).

“Sie hat mich gefragt, ob ich mich für Schmuck interessiere…”, erläuterte ich dem man kopfschüttelnd in unserem abendlichen Tagesrückblick. “Aber das tust du doch, solange er aus Horn, Titan oder Stahl ist…”, witzelte der Mann – ich bin stolze Trägerin geweiteter Ohrlöcher, sogenannter Flesh-Tunnel bzw. Plugs und diverser Piercings.

Ich denke, man muss nehmen, was man kriegen kann, und für eine Menge anekdotischer Erzählung wird der Monat bestimmt ausreichend Stoff bieten. Man(n) darf also gespannt sein…

Ha. So yesterday was pretty good. Monique and I went to our cousin’s baptism. Which actually was boring and uncomfortable. There something about being in a room of 100 Arabic and not a lick of English spoken that rubs me the wrong way. But, at least we had fun getting all dressed up and taking pictures.

Then, we went to alvaro’s party. Which was awesome. Hah(: first we were just hanging out and talking and stuff. And then, I gave a go at Mexican dancing and I decided that if I am going to marry a Mexican man, I should learn how to dance. Since I can already speak Spanish. Kinda. Sorta. Hah
But then it got late and we got coooold. So we brought like ten blankets in his jumper (yes, he had a jumper at his 18th birthday party) and attempted to spend the night in there. It lasted until like 3, but it was just tooo tooo TOO cold. Brrrrrr.

And his brother Andy is oh so funny. Ha. That was way tooo funny. He made me forget how cold I was and remember I had to pee. And that look he gave Monique (or shall I say Shaniqua) was oh so classic. I will NEVER forget that.

Oh and Alvaro, I’m still angry at you for telling you-know-who that he could you-know-what. Ew. If you knew I would say no, why didn’t you just tell him for me

I’m thinking about going to waterpolo practice tomorrow. But, I’m not really sure about it. Hm :\

Mystic Rhythm – Killer On The Rampage

Året var 1984 och runt om i Sverige så fyllde den här låten dansgolven på fredags- och lördagskvällarna. Den tillhör en exklusiv skara i så måtto att jag faktiskt tycker den är bra än idag. De flesta floorfillers tröttnade man nämligen på om man stod i ett DJ-bås nämnda kvällar och det enda folket tjatade om var att man skulle spela dessa låtar. Har ett riktigt hatobjekt när det kommer till såna låtar och det är Tina Turners What’s Love Got To Do With It. Den fick man nöta ganska hårt på Statt i Västervik där jag stod och vände skivor 2-3 kvällar i veckan under ett par år i början på 80-talet.

Föredrog då att spela på andra ställen där musiken var lite mer dansinriktad mot att behöva nöta radiohits. Men samtidigt så var det ju bra pengar för dessa fasta spelningar plus att man kunde ha sina skivlådor på plats å bara behövde knata ner till Statt ett par timmar, göra sitt jobb och sen gå hem å sova. Inte så glamoröst kanske och även om det var lite tradigt långa stunder så var det ju ändå kul.

I. am. tired. Damn… After two days of partying till early morning, of course I have to go to work at freaking 7:30 am in the morning at Sunday! Gosh, I’ve felt horrible all day x__x;; Well, at least it’s over now~ and impressive enough, I SURVIVED! Anyways, now I’m back home and trying to muster up the will to finish my essay due to tomorrow and then get out and run for 30 minutes. I’m making close to zero progress on that one..

Not any new about my exchange, unfortunately /: But to add something, it is weekends like these, where I truly have fun and meet lots of people, that I realize what I’ll be missing next year.. It’s kinda sad, but I know that it WILL be worth it! Or else I’m gonna make it ;D Oh, and by the way, click on the picture above, it’s quite “happy” d:

I had every intention of making myself a tasty breakfast after our morning walk with Sadie. I was anxious to make several of the four pies I needed to make today (two for a party this afternoon and two for a work pot luck tomorrow), so I figured I’d get crackin’ and eat breakfast afterward.

Bad idea. Guess what I ended up eating for breakfast? Pie filling!

Pie Number One

First, I made a white chocolate and fudge mousse pie. It was super easy and I just prepared half a batch of Jello white chocolate pudding and half a batch of Jello chocolate fugde pudding before stirring in an entire container of cool whip.

I poured the batter into a graham cracker crust. At the bottom of the crust, I smoothed out a layer of caramel topping and a half a cup of chopped pecans.

So, for round one of my breakfast, I enjoyed what leftovers from ths white chocolate fudge mousse pie I thought were “too much” to fit into the crust.

Pie Number Two

The second pie I made was a turtle pumpkin pie which used the same caramel and pecan surprise layer at the bottom of a graham cracker crust.

For the filling, I wisked together one cup of pumpkin, two packs of vanilla instant pudding, one cup of milk, one teaspoon of cinnamon and a half of a teaspoon of nutmeg until everything was thoroughly mixed.

I then added a cup and a half of cool whip. Ooooooh wow.

After pouring the mix into the prepared pie crust (and eating a bunch as my breakfast number two) I stuck this pie (and the two others like it I also made) in the fridge.

Mmmm

Before serving this pie will be topped with cool whip, caramel topping and more chopped pecans. I’ll be sure to snap a pic to share!

Turtle Pumpkin Pie Recipe

While I was preparing a plethora of pies, Ryan headed out for a soccer game this morning. I’ll be hitting the gym soon before we head over to a Thanksgiving pot luck party this afternoon. I’m excited to enjoy my second Thanksgiving meal of the year already!

Jen will mit ihrem neuen Freund Peter eine Single Dinnerparty veranstalten. Leider sagen in letzter Minute drei männliche Gäste ab, weshalb die Party zu platzen droht. Sehr schweren Herzens beschließt Jen die Party zu retten und Roy, Moss und Richmond einzuladen. Bevor die Party beginnt, gibt sie ihnen noch Benimmunterricht, um nicht bloßgestellt zu werden. Tatsächlich läuft die Party sehr gut, bis die Drei all ihre guten Vorsätze vergessen.

Igår hade fina E bursdagsfest och vi fick se hennes nya lägenhet för första gången. En otroligt fin lägenhet med högt i tak & stukattur. Toppenmysigt & fintt hade dom fått det på bara TVÅ dagar!! Helt sjukt bra!

Vi hade så himla kul och drog sedan ut på BLÅ där det var flera djs som spelade, massa folk och vi dansade till sent på natten

Det värsta var när jag tyvärr hoppade in i taxin,( jag hatar att åka taxi själv sedan en episod för två år sedan) I alla fall så frågade han en massa frågor även fast jag satt med mobilen och inte ville prata med han. Sedan frågade han om jag vill ha sex??????!!! FY fan säger jag bara…Så jävla hemskt och man känner sig så himla kränkt. Tog inget kvitto för jag ville ut av bilen så fort som möjligt!

Men ser på nätbaknen då jag betalade med kort. Tänker gå vidare med detta då det har skett en gång för mycket!! Hädanefter tänker jag gå hem för att det är säkrare! Hur sjukt är inte det? Jag tycker det är förjävligt!!  Har åkt “svarttaxi” här i Oslo och till och med det är säkrare(tappade kort +körkort i den bilen och jag fick tilbaks det) Det kallar jag GRYMT bra!

What an amazing dance, just incredible how you Saarbrücken people know how to parteey hard.

Jamaican Lounge been packed with people like never before, and we even must close the entrance at half past two, because to club was to crowded.

Pow Pow fully mashed up Modul like everytime the play in Saarbrücken.

The dinner party was a huge success, and I can gladly say that many a non-American foreigner was enticed and then sucked in by the glorious gluttony that is Thanksgiving. We ate…and ate…and drank…and ate…and went around in a circle and gave thanks for things, which nearly made me cry. To add to the joy of my day, my Saturday work day at Reading Town turned into only 30 minutes spent interviewing two lovely children/reading a book in Nemo class while waiting for said children, then returning home to watch downloaded episodes of Glee between cooking and cleaning. Glorious surprise! Jon was incredibly pleased with the crowd’s reaction to his bacon dressed turkey, my garlic mashed potatos quickly disappeared, Marisa’s spinach and feta quesadilas were divine and we were also introduced to several other western-if not American-dishes. Trifle, banoffee pie, and Titus’ “apple snicker salad” which I flatly refuse to call a salad. (Cut up apples and snicker bars tossed in a LOT of whipped cream does not a salad make. Though I heard it was quite delish.) Nary a grain of rice or bite of kimchi was to be found.  The holiday was a good slice of warm and cozy for my soul. Next up-Hong Kong for Christmas with the bf and his fam.  I don’t believe it will be as warm and cozy, but it will be lovely for certain.

Yo yo yo ladiesssss!!

Immediately back to eating.

As usual, time was way ahead of schedule leaving us breathless in its wake.
Trying to herd visitors through the streets of Puerto de la Cruz on a Saturday night when there’s so much to see, was proving a difficult task. We’d been told that if we didn’t get to the Majestic before about 9.15pm we’d be hard pressed to get a seat and now a puppet show outside the church was threatening to keep us late.

We finally climbed down the steps into The Majestic at 9.35pm and made a bee line for an empty table slightly behind the mixing desk.
First thoughts on perusing the room were that we’d wandered into a Saga outing. Most of the tables were occupied by a mix of British ex-Pats and holidaymakers, most if not all of retirement age and beyond. I was beginning to wander if this might have been a mistake but I couldn’t see bingo cards anywhere and anyway, we’d already given our order to the ‘personality’ waiter who was mincing about the place like Alan Cumming on speed.

Nicely set up with our drinks in our comfy seats and an only slightly impaired view of the stage for me, the evening began with a short quiz to identify world airline logos and then it was time for the house lights to go down and the footlights to come on.
For the first half of the show Bitter and Twisted (John Sharples and Barry Pugh) took us on a simulated flight around the comedy world of airline attendants which included free peanuts for all (none of that no-frills nonsense on Majestic Airlines), several stunning costume changes and multi-lingual, word-perfect miming.

After the interval the regular Bitter and Twisted Show got into its routine with a level of professionalism and hilarity that has us all howling with laughter and wiping the tears from our eyes. Particularly memorable were the Miss America and Amy Winehouse sketches but the icing on the cake was the uproarious rendition of It Should Have Been Me which is one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen.

In between shows there was banter with the audience, a raffle and a live rehearsal by John of a new song entitled Saturday Cowboys, a beautiful reminisce about a boy’s obsession with the movies before the age of video and the Internet. I was very tempted to go back the following night to see its inclusion in the show.

There’s no charge to get into the Majestic; drinks are amazingly good value; the atmosphere is friendly and fun, and Bitter & Twisted are quite simply fabulous.
We couldn’t believe it when we looked at the time and it was 1.30am. The entire evening had passed in a whirl of laughter, false eyelashes, sequins and wondering if the waiter would make it through the night without a visit to the Coronary Unit.
I can’t recommend it highly enough. Go!

The Majestic is on Calle Cardogan (off Calle Valoise) in Puerto de la Cruz and the Bitter and Twisted Show is on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday nights from 8pm.
