Pastel French Tip Manicure – Thursday Mani

Spring is officially here, and to help us bring some colour into our outfits, lets break out those pastels.

Here is my simple interpretation of a multi-colour french pastel mani, which can be worn in and out of the office.

What You’ll Need:

• Pastel nail colors (I used essie’s “Sand Tropez” and avon’s “Lemon Sugar”, “Twilight Blue”, “Rebel Rose”, “Artic Waters”, “Real Red” )
• Nail guide tips
• Clear top coat

The How-To:

1. Paint each nail with the “Sand Tropez” colour, applying two coats of polish.
2. Apply a clear top coat and let dry completely.
3. Using the Nail guide tips,  pain a different colour tip.
4. Finish with another application of the clear top coat.
5. Show them off!

Runway inspiration via Louise Goldin, Versace, Tommy Hilfiger & Christopher Kane

In comparison to our good friend the neon explosions, I’d say pastels are a lot easier to manage, disaster-wise. The runways (as seen above) presented us with a number of head-to-toe pastel parties, often in one tone, but also with a blend of pastels. However, as per usual, you can break down the runway version and make it your own. So if you’re comfortable with a little less pastel, aim to rock one piece as opposed to an entire pastel uniform.

Here’s some photographic inspiration to get your styling juices flowing:

A Touch of the Pastel:

A little bit obsessed. I mean, those cat eye sunnies?? Helllooo! But that’s a story for a previous day …. As you can see, this fierce fashionista sports a pastel pink pant and anchors it with a neutral heel and very very soft pink sweater. I’d almost call it a cream as opposed to a pink. The dark sunnies and hat lend a contrast to the lighter palette, which you could also do with a bag.

Annnnd again, so obsessed with this. I particularily love this look because of the combination of metallics (aka the love of my life) with pastels, which brings a harder edge to the more girly look. But my main point here is that throwing a pastel blazer onto any look is one of the easiest ways to style the trend. This outfit would look mayyyy-jor with a pair of dark denim skinnies or shorts. The options are truly endless, but I can pretty much guarantee you can’t go wrong with a pastel jacket. Find whichever colour looks best on you and then incorporate it into your daily uniform.

Case in point: pastel jacket with your basic denim and t-shirt and/or blouse. Love this look for a super chic but casual daytime look. Perfect for a weekend coffee date! Another main point here is the bag. If you’d rather sport your pastels via accessories, a bag is a great way to go! It will generally compliment any summer look and is a super easy way to incorporate the trend without much thought. A grab-and-go type of deal.

Colour Contrasting & Head-To-Toe:

Parhaps you’re into rocking the look as seen on the runways, i.e. head to toe or as a mix of contrasting pastels. Here’s some more inspo.

There’s nothing more striking than an almost-turquoise blue pastel contrasted with a lighter shade. Mix and match your pastels the same as you would with black and white or grey and black. Find whichever pastel works best on your skintone and rock that on top.

Decked out in icy-blue pastels, Hanelli Mustaparta adds depth to her look with her black bag and shoes. Alternatively, you could keep things completely in the pastel fam with a contrasting pastel bag and neutral shoe.

And finally, if you want to wear pretty much every pastel colour known to mankind, Philip Lim 3.1 shows us how! Find your favourites, rock them where flatters you best and have yourself a pastel party. But just as a forewarning … since the masses don’t always see eye-to-eye with the hot-off-the-runway fashion world trends, you may end up at some point being referred to as an Easter Egg.

And if all else fails, you can always channel Lauren Conrad and amp up the fun factor on any oufit with a pastel mani!
