masih ingat dengan istilah odol-odol? nah kalau lupa mari kita mengenangnya, ketika bercerita dengan seorang teman teringat pada bahasa odol-odol, setelah dipikir-pikir ternyata ada istilah lain dari odol-odol, yaitu pastel. bahasa ini tidak jelas asalnya darimana, yang pasti pastel terkenal makanan yang enak di pulau kangean.

pastel adalah sebuah makanan yang berbentuk lonjong dan biasanya disajikan bersama collet-collet dari pettes. dalam penyajian pastel, pettes yang digunakan bermacam-macam, tergantung desa dimana pastel itu dibuat, mungkin ini dipengaruhi struktur budaya yang ada di desa masing-masing. sementara pastelnya sendiri seperti ada standarisasi, pastel terbuat dari ketela pohon (manggele) dan selalu berbentuk lonjong, dari semua pastel yang dikenal penulis selama di kangean, hampir semua pastel memiliki citarasa yang sama, yaitu enak dan mengenyangkan.. bagaimana menurut anda?

Estos pastelillos que componen la tabla periódica cocinados por Katherine y su hermana –una nerd de la química– debieron tener mucho éxito en la fiesta de cumpleaños para la que fueron concebidos. Con total precisión cada pastelillo tiene su color de fondo según el tipo de elemento (sólidos, líquidos, gases, etcétera) y sus símbolos químicos identificativos. De sabor estaban buenísimos no sé qué tal quedaron, pero divertidos son un rato.

Siempre es bueno ver la variedad creativa en otras personas, por ello, es muy aconsejable darse un paseo por su blog.

Yes! I clearly have a addiction with designing converse right now and I suppose it is not fading away anytime soon. Base on by the amount of releases you can tell that I have been fairly busy with creating more shoes because no one can get enough of them. Most of customers may recognize the Melaskulls converse however these are recolors so now there are more options to choose from. Of course why not make some Twilight converse while I am at it! Hasta dentro de muy poco!

Hoje foi um dia parecido com muitos que vivemos nos últimos anos: acordar, pastel na feira, manicure, churrasco com os amigos, cabelereiro, farmácia, festa de casamento…o dia foi cheio, e mesmo assim parece que algo estranho ainda está presente dentro das nossas cabeças. É aquele vazio que preenchemos com perguntas como “Será que eu viria neste churrasco com a Carol?” ou “Quando será que vou trazer a Carol para comer pastel comigo?”.

Andando pela Vila Madalena encontramos uma loja nova de roupinhas de criança, e como precisávamos comprar um presente resolvemos entrar. É estranho conseguir entrar neste tipo de loja depois de ter vivido a experiência de comprar as coisas para minha própria filha, e não dá para fugir do mesmo pensamento que está sempre rondando nossas cabeças: “Se a Carol estivesse aqui eu iria comprar este vestidinho para ela…”. Compramos o presente, conhecemos pessoas muito simpáticas e passamos momentos bastante agradáveis na loja, e esperamos continuar evitando passar para as pessoas algum tipo de mágoa ou ressentimento pelo que passamos.

Charles will once again be offering collectors and fans of his illustration work a Christmas holiday special.  This year, the special will include a free print of your choice.  In addition, the artist will include a free limited edition pastel print of the Joseph Horne Co. Christmas tree.  The lighting of the Horne’s Christmas tree has been a long-standing family tradition in the city of Pittsburgh.

The Joseph Horne Co., often referred to simply as Horne’s by Pittsburghers was an iconic regional department store located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.   It was one of the oldest department stores in the country after being founded by Joseph Horne (1826-1891) in 1849.   The department store chain operated for nearly 145 years until it ceased operation in 1994 after it merged with Lazarus, a division of the Federated Dept. Stores, Inc.

Joseph Horne was born in Bedford County, Pennsylvania.  He moved to Pittsburgh where landed his first job in the retail trade with Christian Yeager.   At age of 23, he bought F.H. Eaton store and eventually renamed it the Joseph Horne Co.   It became the leading department store in Pittsburgh, along with Kaufmann’s lasting for generations.   In 1879, a new central location was built at the corner of Penn Avenue and Stanwix Street.   The building was a 7-story landmark and the first department store in the city’s downtown district.   The annual lighting of the Horne’s Christmas Tree at their flagship store was a long held family Christmas tradition.   The Christmas tree display was six stories high and erected on the building’s corner.  Although the store ceased operation, it remains a tradition with Pittsburgh’s annual Light-Up Night festivities.   Crowds would also gather during the Christmas season to view the Christmas display windows, which often were very elaborate and included animated moving characters.

I finally snagged ahold of a camera. Here are some pictures of three previously constructed shrines.

The first was meant to avoke the idea of the “old world” roadside shrines. Its meant to be interactive where candles and flowers would slowly build upon it creating an ever-evolving piece. Christian symbolism – while present – is accentuated by the pagentry of ever changing candles, incense, and objects which alter and inform the piece:

The second was an experiment exploring the question… What are the “modern” roadside shrines of today? What spirituality is found within the life of a secularist?  In a sense, I explored the idea of music, film, and technology distilled through the vehicle of television and mp3 players are the modern version of hymns and candles. We connect to a sexualized spirituality through the heavy drum beat of hip hop or house music while watching stylized airbrushed unreal celebrities or models.

Shrine to Modernity

The third piece was simply a characture of a shrine. It neither explored old world spirituality nor its more modern incarnations. Instead I seeked to take from an object and form a shrine around it. The idea of the suit of clubs – also known as acorns or flowers… Appealed to me. The Queen held a sense a femine security: A woman enjoying the scent of a flower and living in a carefree palace.  Indeed… this shrine in a sense followed the ancient idea of shrines or churches or temples being palaces for the object it encased.

et si mon nom n’est pas basque ; c’est qu’on m’en a donné un autre, je suis fait de méandre que comme la rivière la vie creuse dans la roche, l’impalpable du réel, surprenant comme cette eau qui gronde retenue par les morts dans les recoins profonds de la masse de roche qui grouille sous nos pieds, que nous appellons l…a terre, multiforme je le suis et en même temps un en esprit même s’il cherche à se rejoindre constament être rassemblé dans ce lieu du monde et du corps d’ou il peut voir et être, l’instant projette ses propres méandres et redéfinie l’identité , mouvante et multiple,
l’esprit rode et règne, tout doit lui revenir quelque soient les fentes ou il se glisse, lui qui s’accroche, lit grognard de l’harmonie

My small slice of the world has been wrapped up in soft grey tissue paper.

And sprinkled now and then with pearls. In this case, the luminous moonstone white of the swans bobbing upside down in search of food.

And just when I think the soft grey clouds are winning, I catch sight of a splash of tinsel, a dab of gold.

We have to embrace the grey too. After all, it is a part of life’s mosaic.

And look – the soft grey pastel tones have a near-magical quality!
