It could be stronger in the smell department IMHO. I like soaps with a little heavier scent than this one…but still overall ok. Don’t know about buying it again unless the step up the smell some. I bought 2 bars of it and I’ll be giving the other one as a Christmas gift to a friend that I know likes lighter smells.

S’wonderful, but wishing it was a ……… – H.L. Mencken – Tucson, Az
true hardmilled soap. The ingredients ( patchouli oil is of a very high standard) are definitely top shelf;lots of lather, but alas the bar fades into the mystic all too quickly. I love the soap, but there are other small companies out there making soaps of comparable quality that are hardmilled and last 3-4 times as long……………Peace.:-)
First time – Gail Whitehouse –
This is the first time i ordered the soap not sure what i expected but my whole house filled with the smell of Patchouli. I did enjoy how it made my skin softer and glad it is not as strong now but it has a totally diffrent smell after using for a few weeks, maybe if put in a container or something will not lose the smell i will order again maybe not this scent but maybe one of the samples they sent,.

My husband came back with the request of creating a soap that effoliate his beautiful skin without scratching it so here is my creation, a private collection for sure :

Fragrance oil : patchouli, sandalwood

Cumin seeds

Canola, linseed and corn oil

Hard oil : peggy fat

20 oz recipe in the small wood mold

Hardness 42, Liquid 5oz and lye at 5%

Process used : CPOP, dodo baby dodo overnight!

That soap traced so fast, I could not do some colors with mica. I had to spoon the remaining of the colored soap on top, no pouring here. 200F for one hour, oven off and dodo covered with a blanket in the oven, overnight.

It is already a beautiful and hard soap. The smell is so manly.

Oh, how I wish we had smell-o-pc, so you could smell how wonderful this fragrance is.

I love scents. Whether it be candles, perfumes, room sprays, linen fresheners, baked goods, fresh bread or cookies, even laundry detergent, and fabric softener. I.Love.Scents.

I was sent samples of Leslie Blodgett Perfume Diaries – Bare Skin, and while wearing it … I feel …. pretty, romantic, lady like. (hush up WinterWitch)
Many women proclaim a love, a passion for shoes, or purses. My passion’s are socks, and scents! And the scent isn’t coming from the socks.
This is not an overwhelming fragrance, to me it’s just the right amount. I have even allowed my tween to wear it. It’s just not overbearing, and is certainly suitable for those of all ages.

Created exclusively for Sephora
Top: No clock in sight and no reason to wake up. (Black Pepper, Freesia, Anise)
Middle Hot, hot hopping to the towel on sand. (Iris, Vanilla, Orchid, Plumeria, Patchouli)
Bottom: Finally, time to mingle, baring amber shoulders still warm from the day (Sandalwood, Labdanum, Musk).
Style: Romantic. Warm. Spontaneous.

Bare Skin, the first scent in the series, is reminiscent of an experience during a trip to Mexico, where Leslie cart-wheeled fancy-free down a sunny beach while emanating true, unbridled joy. “When I have an experience, I like to have a scent behind it. Bare Skin, which is what Mexico reminds me of, is the way you feel when the sun is beating down on you during the day, but then you go out at night and you’re still sizzling from the warmth of the day which mingles with the night air and the music.”

“Glowing, sun-kissed skin has the power to turn heads. I wanted to recreate that attractive force with notes that draw you in: creamy sensuality, caressing florals and uninhibited musk,” says Stephen Nilsen, the celebrated Givaudan perfumer who helped concoct Bare Skin. “With Bare Skin, you will find yourself basking in the sun, with your feet in the sand, after one spritz.”

Thank you to Catherine of the PR Company, Leslie Blodgett, and Sephora for allowing me to review samples of Bare Skin. I was not paid any monetary compensation for this review. This post is my opinion and should be taken as just that. Having received samples has no impact on my personal use, experience, or like for any product.

You know, I used to think that big corporations were a bad thing.
But you know what? Who cares that the Body Shop is owned by L’oreal? Not me. In fact, with Cheryl the new face of L’oreal, I positively love it and can’t wait to try it’s new shampoo.
Why fight against the corporations? Just succumb to them…

Supposedly ‘ethical’ companies are not all they’re cracked up to be you know? In the end it’s all about targets and footfall – you don’t matter. You’re just a tiny little part of what makes a company what it is.
Every time you step in to a shop you’re a tally. You can’t get away from it.
Did you know that Tesco, by looking at what a customer purchases with their Clubcard, can predict with an accuracy of up to six months when she is going to fall pregnant?
They know about you. Boots know what I buy, that’s why they send me vouchers for nail-polish.

Little companies don’t care about you, they pretend to but they don’t. They care about your money. They may try to mask the foul stench of rotten morals with their overpoweringly innocent aroma but they’re lying.
And let’s be serious here. Are you vanilla and patchouli or are you Chanel Mademoiselle?

I know what I am.

I had a close encounter with aliens in my Bay area town. Emptyville has 1.2 square miles, the bulk of it being the Amtrak station. Emptyville is a curiosity, but not immune from alien visitors.

A free shuttle loops through town, picking up shoppers at our humungous Ikea store, and our upscale hotels lying across the bridge from San Francisco. The other day, six Amish people boarded the shuttle at the BART station.

The Amish cut a contrast with the California passengers. The women wore muslin bonnets over pinned-up hair, dark capes and skirts. The men sported untrimmed beards, suspenders and iconical black hats. They spoke a Germanic language plus English.

The bus was crowded, and the husband sat beside me. Two sensations hit me: his smell, and the pressure of his hard thigh against mine. I could smell everything of who he is. The top scent was grassy and sweet, like patchouli but fresher and more real. I pretended to read, and sniffed a deeper note: gamey, manure, sweat with earth and animals.

It was a heady ride for a city girl who likes horses. The pressure of his thigh — not the cowardly touch of a sissy pervert. Instead, “I am a proud man. I will take up all of the shuttle bus seat that is available to me.” This must be how the Founding Fathers were, I thought. This is how they must have smelled anyhow, since most of them were farmers. Lusty, upright, wooden beams of men.

The bus stopped, and a tall, tiny-limbed black woman loped past, dripping bling and revealing nearly all in a halter top and painted-on jeans. Inwardly I nodded: a typical denizen of Emptyville. What would our alien visitors think? Glancing to my left, Mr. Amish fiddled with the paper bag that his child was shredding. What was in the bag? I couldn’t resist spying: a photo calendar from Muir Woods.

Impossible to conceive that our country is elastic enough to contain all of our differences. The Amish anachronism, the black bling girl, this nerdy white girl. If anything got settled that day, it is this: I know how the Founding Fathers smelled.

Another beautiful day in paradise, we have so much bird life it is stunning, and so enjoyable! Most mornings we can sit out on the veranda enjoying a cup of tea watching and listening to the birds chattering & singing, frogs croaking, trees whispering it is Divine! King parrots, babblers, willy wagtails, brown dove pigeons, blue eyed honey eaters, swallows, finches, wrens, warblers, it’s so busy! yet so Peaceful.

Although spring is upon us we are still having fires in the evening to keep us warm and compfy.

You really know what the different season’s are here, the change in not only the weather, the life around us, is so significantly different than in the city.

Well another side of living in the country and close to bushland, insect bites! Three days ago I was stung buy a beastly little ant, not the first time might I add. Anyway I seem to react rather nastily to them. Once again I relied on my trusty friend in a bottle called ‘patchouli’ Ater 24 hours, swelling has reduced dramatically, itching and discomfort disapated and inflammation gone.

As you know I am available to discuss any questions you may have in regards to Aromatherapy and the use of essential oils. Please always seek the advice of a qualified Aromatherapy practioner in regards to the use of essential oils.

I know everyone is waiting for the Friends and Family sale (20% off from October 19th to November 2nd), but Sephora has SO many cute gifts with purchase right now. I was just poking around killing time when I should be doing homework and saw 4 free-with-any-purchase gifts: Bare Escentuals Buxom lipgloss sample, 10 day trial of bareMinerals with tiny kabuki brush, Philosophy Grace body wash, and Korres Oak anti-wrinkle cream.

This is bad because I’m really lusting after Benefit’s California Kissin’ lip balm since I’m such a sucker for blue glitter. But then again I am owed a birthday lipgloss set…and I do have a 100 point beauty insider sample coming my way…If I do it I might also have to take the plunge and try some leave in conditioner from Carol’s Daughter in Khoret Amen. It has ylang-ylang, clary sage, bay leaf, cedarwood, and patchouli: aka hippie paradise.

On the other hand, instead of buying things to make myself feel better I could just watch owl madness and feel amazing about life. Skip to minute 1:48!

Interessant!

Moving fingers (fragrance oils used : Rose hip Jasmine, Essential oil Patchouli, Egyptian dragon, bay rum) was made May 22, 2009 this year.

Now today, October 02, 2009 as I enter my office full of soaps all over the place, there is just one fragrance that catch my delicate nose : patchouli mixed with egyptian dragon.

This soap is part of my private collection. It was named after a woman pianist that passed away last winter 2008. I have never met her but her story couth my passion for making her a beautiful soap, one that reflects her story never told.

She had a passion for music, specifically piano. From a very early age, in the eastern part of a very small french village, she would sit at the piano of the church, every Sunday morning and just play. Her moving fingers would bring dreams and light steps to her audience every time she would touch the notes. She had a remarkable abilities to make us feel her feeling through her music and listening to her playing was almost like watching the private life of somebody we were not allowed to do.

She went on her life, making a living with her music, travelling and performing all around the globe, always displaying her passion for simple things.

She passed away last December, without remembering much of her life as a pianist, but one thing kept her alive : every time she would hear a piece of her own music playing, her fingers would move with each note, on the arm of the chair she was sitting on.

A bespoke fragrance emporium tucked away on Elizabeth Street in New York’s terminally hip NoLita, it’s chock full of wonderfully ballsy, characterful fragrances that smell like nothing else out there and which epitomise modern luxury.

I stumbled upon the uber-cool shop whilst pounding the streets in search of David Bowie’s New York abode (which I don’t think I found – unless he’s chosen to live above a Kebab shop). Anyway, not only is Le Labo worth checking out just for its cool decor, all the fragrances are ‘compounded’ in front of your very eyes and you can even have the label personalised to include you name.

My fragrance is 'compounded' and personalised while I wait

Of the scents on offer, Ood 27 knocks your socks off and the Neroli is to die for but the one I fell for is Patchouli 24, a fantastically sexy, smoky number with an unabashed viagra-like staying power.

Don’t worry if you don’t fancy schlepping all the way to NY to get hold of a bottle though – Liberty stock much of the ready-made range. It’s not cheap (a 100 ml bottle of perfume strength fragrance is £120 but it’s worth every penny).

One of my all time favourite essential oils, patchouli is grounding, comforting, emotionally warming and protective. An oil that should be in everyone’s firstaid kit, it can be applied safely straight onto cuts, grazes, insect bites without stinging. An oil that people love or hate there is no inbetween. It has a long lasting aroma which I love!

Try this blend in your oil burner 3 drops patchouli, 3 drops geranium and 6 drops Bergamot

Ohhhh, I just took a bath, a heavenly soak in scented waters. I’ll pick a bath over a shower any day, pretty much. It makes my mind peaceful (a rare thing) and my muscles feel loose and limber. Today I used Meditation Bath Crystals, made in Australia by Dynamo House (ok, maybe the least mystical name possible). They don’t foam but they do make the water very soft. Here’s what’s in them: Oil of cedarwood, oil of lavender, gum of frankincence, oil of ylang ylang, oil of bergamot, oil of nutmeg, oil of orange, oil of patchouli, balsam of benzoin, essence of oakmoss, bay oil, and balsam of tolu. So you can probably guess that these salts smell deliciously like incense, not the cheap stuff from the head shop, but more like church incence, which I could inhale all day long and be that much the better for it. I just wish the scent would stay on my skin after I dry off. But it doesn’t really, so I followed up with Prada Eau de Parfum. It’s a heavy, dense oriental that I save for Fall and Winter. I first bought it in a large pour bottle because it seemed more economical, plus I got to decant some of it to share with my mother. This perfume has an almost magical ability to warm me up when I’m feeling chilled. And it always surprises me that in addition to sandalwood, I smell patchouli, though again, not the oil from the head shop, not the stuff that permeated the East parking lot in high school (along with cigarette smoke and exhaust), but something more refined and even classic. To me, Prada Eau de Parfum smells like it could have first been created years and years ago; there is something old-fashioned about it. It doesn’t feel trendy to me, and though it may be too much of a perfume for some, I find that using it judiciously in the colder months is like adding another layer of clothing to warm me, another sweater, another soft and comforting blanket to enfold me.

Dragon blood rebatched soap

The smell of amber. This Dragon Blood fragrance oil has a distinctive warm tantalizing blend of amber, patchouli, rose, woods, jasmine and lilac.

The smell of vanilla is also present in this oil, as well as a touch of citrus.

With all the handmade soaps around me these days, I took a bunch of them the other day and made a rebatched recipe. I like to do that once in a blue moon, specially when a fragrance oil hits me under the nose like this Dragon Blood one. Any fragrance, perfume etc… that contains patchouli in it gets into me.

The picture speaks for itself : big dark soap, full of little piece of left over morning coffee in it, to scrub the skin of a man. This Dragon Blood will give a dark soap with amber colors. Marvelous.

Mr. Demonic and his “boy” (I call him the other “b” word most of the time) a

Mr. Demonic and his “boy” (I call him the other “b” word most of the time) are over on the West Coast of the state on a mission. They are moving a classroom from one store location to another one in the same mall.

This calls for an overnight stay. This is because the West Coast is a long drive away. They could come home, but it would be after midnight by the time they get back into town.

I have no problem being home alone. In fact, I rather enjoy the unencumbrance.

For one thing, I can do what I want, when I want. Like eat junk food. I had junk food for dinner, and it was sinfully awful. I will not divulge which form of junk I consumed, just know that my cholesteral is probably peaking even as I type.

For another thing, I can lay out my craft work. Take over the entire living room. I did this, until my fingers got numb. My fingers don’t take long to be numbed.

I can play my etudes on the violin. If Mr. D is home, I can only play melodies. Etudes are studies and they are not supposed to sound harmonius. No, they are supposed to confound your brain and your fingers at the same time, contain more flats than sharps, and sound like the cries from Hell. In fact, they are hellish for the first couple of weeks until I figure out when to shift and what the notes are. In the meantime, it sounds like a cat in heat.

I took the opportunity of Mr. D’s absence at work to get caught up on some other projects. I worked on some computer designed brochures, business cards and the like that I had been putting off for weeks.

I worked out a little too. I work out very little, because working out is boring. I can only take fifteen minutes of it. I cannot work out when Mr. D is around because his workout machine is next to mine. He likes to watch golf or the news, and I like music. He also sweats like a pig. I work up a mild sweat. Sweating like a pig I save for mowing the lawn in 100% humidity.

When Mr. D is gone, I can work on my writing. Thus, my presence here in the dark tapping at the keys. I’m about one third of the way finished with my YA novel. I am working slowly compared to some, but compared to myself only a year ago, I’m on freakin’ fire!

I haven’t heard from Mr. D. I think he took his friend to the casino. Good for them.

I think I will get a glass of wine and go to bed early. I’m entirely wiped out from my loneliness.
