Interesting combination of Super 7s ……………… and I like the first one, but would prefer it didn’t have the swag border. Thank goodness I haven’t wasted a lot of time and fabric making either design!

I am going to let you in on a little secret ………….. I wanted to give blog readers something for Christmas, yes, but I also wanted to reach a grand total of 500 quilts as soon as possible. It will happen next week!

The first part of the tale.

After a long, long sleep, the little box finally got woken up. Her new dress was finished at last! She just couldn’t wait any longer to try it on. So within a single evening, the dress got fitted, and there was a very happy little box admiring herself in every mirror she could find. Not only that, but of course she needed to show off for the camera!

When she had finished admiring herself and dancing in front of the camera, she suddenly got very quiet. “What’s going to happen now? I don’t want to go back to sleeping all the time!” Her maker comforted her: “Don’t worry, you’ll be a Christmas present for a little girl that I’m sure will like you, and be proud to keep her little treasures inside you!” The little box was very glad to hear that she was going to have company soon, and maybe some secrets to guard. So she happily went back to sleep with the promise to be woken up on Christmas Eve and being able to show off her sparkling dress under the tree.

Following my own tutorial, this time with a smaller notebook.

The notebook measurements are 12.5′ x 8 1/4′.

Materials

Fabric

Lining: 1 rectangle 13.5′ x 9 1/4′

Pockets: 4 rectangles 3.5′ x 9 1/4′

Cover: 1 rectangle 13.5′ x 9 1/4′. Mine is made of 3 pieces patched together with the following measurements:

• 1 rectangle 13.5′ x 6
• 1 rectangle13.5′ x 3
• 1 strip 13.5′ x 1 1/2

Fusible interfacing (iron on one side)

Lining and cover: 2 rectangles 12.5′ x 8 1/4′

Pockets: 4 rectangles 12.5′ x 3 1/4′

1 elastic band

1 fabric covered button

Add any embellishments after putting the cover together.

An alternative to a self covered button could be a ribbon though the button and elastic is more convenient.

This time I found that the cover looks better on a hardcover notebook.

Sometime ago I designed a quilt for someone else, kept the project file and eventually went back to it and changed the setting a bit, and created a new series of designs. The layout was prepared as a custom quilt, so I saved the original file under a new name to keep the new designs separate. I don’t think any of the original blocks are in any of the new designs.

The basic layout is shown above, and each of those coloured spaces can be replaced with any block which is in the Electric Quilt libraries and any original block which I have drawn up and saved in my personal block library. Then you can add a border or two or more.

So, what does the layout look like with block designs replacing those large pieces of fabric?

Just a note, those fine lines could be appliquéd bias strips or drawn onto the background fabric with pens.

The name of the series came about because the person who wanted me to draw the original medallion layout shares a name with one of my aunts ………. the Christmas was added because the colours are very similar to the Christmas quilt for our bed, and the Peaced for Christmas series I introduced a couple of days ago.

I often show two designs when I introduce a new series, and this time is no exception ………. especially as I have promised two quilt designs a day until Christmas Day.  So here is another one ………………

O quilt e a aplicação fiz à máquina.

Ficará pendurado logo na entrada do apartamento, bem ao lado da porta.
Achei que ficou muito lindo e gracioso, uma charme para dar as boas vindas a nossos amigos e familiares.

Hay momentos de la vida que solo se comprenden mirando para detrás, pero la vida solo puede ser vivida mirando al frente.

Este tiempo de silencio ha estado repleto de obstáculos, sueños, esperas, llegadas… Nada importante para destacar, igual que el trancurrir diario de la vida de cualquier mortal.

Algunos de los pasajeros que habéis llegado hasta este blog, lo habéis hecho de una forma regular, a pesar de la ausencia de nuevos post (así al menos lo demuestran los datos aportados por las estadísticas y los comentarios tanto públicos como los que me habéis hecho llegar al correo).

Supongo que algunas visitas han sido por simple curiosidad y otras por seguimiento. Todo es de agradecer.

Decía Chaplin: “La persistencia es el camino del éxito”

Así que seguiré contando las cosas tal cual las pienso porque los que desisten jamás alcanzarán sus sueños.

Intentaré hacer bueno el dicho de Montesquieu: ” Cuánto menos los hombres piensan, más ellos hablan”. Y cuanto más hablan de lo que no piensan, más yerran.

Yo metafóricamente hablando, calzo mis zapatillas y me dispongo a recorrer el camino con la intención de hablar poco, pero decir mucho.

Espero contar con vuestra compañia en el camino.

Angels have been all around me this week as I began creating a new series of quilts. All of these quilts will feature angels. I have not placed a limit on the number of quilts in this series because angels should be unlimited.

When I moved into my new home in 1999, my mother gave me a set of towels embroidered with the words  ”I Believe in Angels” as a housewarming gift. They have hung in my guest bathroom ever since. I can’t bear to change them. So I guess I always knew I would eventually turn to angels in my quilts.

When the Brown Sugar Stitchers announced an angel block exchange, it seemed just the nudge that I needed. After researching and viewing many angels, I ultimately decided to start out with the angel in Evora’s Earth, the quilt that honors my mother.

I already know this will be a special series of quilts.

I do love the border, but the oversized sashing is something special surrounding the blocks in this design.
