Miami, FL (CNS) - Miami Fashion Week® artfully blends global culture and style, attracting designers, entertainers, celebrity jet-setters and fashion royalty from throughout North, Central and South America, the Caribbean, Europe, the Middle East and Asia. The fashion shows and after parties have earned a well deserved reputation as the places to be among this elite crowd of bold face names.

Dominican Republic surprised the onlookers of industry elite with some designs that looked to be straight out of the New York or Paris Fashion Week.

2008, all showcased their latest collections at Miami Fashion Week to audience acclaim. Cinthia Avelino showcased designs that were whimsical and playful yet wholly chic, with layers upon layers of detail and fanciful touches like an oversized top hat. Gutierrez Marcano showcased myriad ways to make a black dress look classic, yet adding twists in detail to make them entirely new. Carlos de Moya took traditional inspiration to new heights with his designs, including a long, flowing pearl dress with added detail which gave the model a majestic look.

Damaris Rubio’s collection was a mix of both old and new, such as richly designed dresses and ruffled tops complimenting a high waisted short which is both appropriate for Dominican weather and shows off legs for days. Rubio’s mix various influences such as Spaniard and Caribbean patterns and fabrics.  Magaly Tiburcio and Belkola featured inventive cuts and patterns with eye-popping detail on their designs.  Belkoa’s designs have been showcased by social and artistic personalities such as Juan Luis Guerra, Zoe Saldaña among others.

Also from Spain, special guest designer Agatha Ruiz De La Prada, whose exuberant, brightly colored and bold patterns creations garnered her the 2004 fashion Oscar in Italy as best foreign designer.  In the early 1980s, Agatha Ruiz de la Prada burst onto Spain’s fashion scene in Madrid, and soon became one of the main promoters of the movida madrilne, a sociocultural revolution which took place in the city. her signature boldly-colored designs into household items, furniture, stationery products, technological items, jewelry, toys and more, as well as clothing for men, women, children and babies.  She will have a special retrospective exhibition at La Piscine de Roubaix in France later on this year.

Another outrages collection was that one of Designer Michael Cinco from Dubai. He had richly detailed evening gowns, full of elegance and glamour.  His design looked perfectly fitted for European and Middle East royalty.    Cinco collections showcased extraordinary soft silks, tulles and organzas, such as his white and gray wedding gown, with detailed diamond beads on the chest and neck area.

Entitled Impalpable dreams, Cinco introduced the Hispanic crowd to some sunny fare.  The collection is called Impalpable dreams. Through my clothes I want to shout out to the world that it is OK to dream in these tough times. Dreams are one thing which does not cost money. After all, there may be credit crunch, but not couture crunch. My muse is like an Arab princess who flies out of Dubai in the morning, reaches St  Tropez and then jets off to Paris for dinner. My clothes would look great on a sophisticated jet setter. The ’50s style can never go out of style. The small hips, the big waist will always be in vogue”, states Cinco.
