When the Government of India Act came into force in 1936, our government was a clone of British Imperialism. The whole military set up smelt of imperialist blood, eager to  expand, if necessary by annexing the neighbouring countries, and alwys suspicious of powerful countries beyond our borders. Both the Durrand line and the Macmohan lines, were drawn arbitrarily, without reference to ground reality, the former dividing the Pashtoons into two halves, one to become part of Afghanistan and the other half part of Pakistan

The mind set of our defence establishment and the self styled patriots (who will give away our secrets for money) remains the same, as it was among the Britishers in 1936.

That is why no one protested when Morarji Desai annexed Sikkim, when he was our Prime Minister. When Rajiv Gandhi intervened in the civil war in Lanka, our patriots praised his statesmanship. It was utter fiasco.

Junagad was annexed when they opted for Pakistan in terms of the 1947 agreement. The Nizam of Hyderabad remained independent; so he was removed by military force. Goa was liberated by the armed forces, to rehabilitate the reputation of our Defence Minister.The will of the people of Kashmir was ignored and we occupied it, just to save the King. We are still suffering the consequences, both in terms of huge yearly expenditure and precious lives!

Why did we receive the Dalai Lama, when he came to India in 1992? He could have been given back to the Chinese.

What is remarkable in all these cases, is the fact that these were not discussed in Parliament. We all felt happy that our Nation is acquiring territory!

Yes. India is an Imperialist power.

If we forget our false pride and work for the upliftment of the poor and the downtrodden, the better for our own future. That is true patriotism.

This 26/11 searching for true Indians

A lot of homage-paying ceremonies, human chains for unity etc are taking place to mark the first anniversary of Mumbai attacks of 26/11. Most of these are plain gimmicks. I overheard someone retorting in one of the ceremony 26/11 mubarak ho! Big S@#$. These homages are not introspection of any kind, they are just photo-ops.

So began a journey to identify real patriots. Living ones’ who can be Nation’s role model. Not very late I believed Bal Thackeray to be a real patriot, the Nationalist. But the Sena chief’s recent outburst against Sachin Tendulkar makes me believe that political class have misused the emotion of patriotism to serve their interests…real patriots remain unsung!

I think I am confusing Nationalism with Patriotism. Are they different. Wikipedia stresses – Although patriotism is used in certain vernaculars as a synonym for nationalism, nationalism is not necessarily considered an inherent part of patriotism.^[2][3] Among the ancient Greeks, patriotism consisted of notions concerning language, religious traditions, ethics, law, and devotion to the common good, rather than pure identification with a nation-state.^[4][5] Scholar J. Peter Euben writes that for the Greek philosopher Socrates, “patriotism does not require one to agree with everything that his country does and would actually promote analytical questioning in a quest to make the country the best it possibly can be.”^[6]

So who are real patriots. The politicians can never be patriots because the word politics itself is against the notion of patriotism. Some list of public figures who I consider Real patriots are :

See we can count them on our fingers. But there are numerous personalities, social-entrepreneurs who are PATRIOTS in real sense. Doing their bit to energise the Nation without any shouting and sloganeering. Some personal names I can put forward(whose efforts I have seenpersonally) who I consider doing their best for upliftment of the Nation:

Sarah Palin book signing yesterday in Florida

Hundreds of people look on as Sarah Palin arrives for a book signing at the Barnes & Noble at Lake Sumter Landing in The Villages, Fla. on Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009. Palin came to The Villages for a book signing to promote her new book “Sarah Palin Going Rogue An American Life”

Reportedly greeted by a crowd of 1,500 to 2,000, Sarah Palin was at Barnes and Noble in The Villages, Florida yesterday.  If the paper gives that number, I imagine there were a lot more, because they always under estimate.  Fox News Gretchen Carlson was traveling with her to report.   Here’s Some excerpts from the article in the Ocala Star Banner.

Randy Highsmith drove roughly 80 miles, spent the night in a parking lot hunkered down in a sleeping bag and waited more than an hour with several hundred people as storm clouds gathered overhead…..

Kevin Kerbow and his wife were first in line to have their book autographed after making the trip from Citrus County almost 24 hours before Palin was set to hit town.

Near 3 p.m., Palin exited the bus along with her daughter Piper and son Trig.

She thanked the crowd for attending and noted that The Villages was one of the family’s favorite stops during the election campaign.

She also expressed her gratitude for people purchasing her book so they could read her story “unfiltered” by the media. She then took a seat next to Carlson on an impromptu stage and spent about 20 minutes conducting an interview that was to be aired on Fox News this morning.

The video below shows the crowd at 9:00 p.m. Monday night.  This young lady has started her video journal at 5:00 p.m. on Monday night showing how the crowd gathers throughout the night.

The video below shows her first video on Tuesday morning with about 7 hours  still remaining until Sarah Palin arrives.

When she appeared here during the campaign, we waited from about 8:00 in the morning until her arrival at 3:00 p.m.  But this is real dedication here!

Last Saturday, as the last of our guys were leaving the corner at Rte 9 and Vassar Rd in Poughkeepsie, an SUV pulled to the curb and two young patriots jumped out and ran up to Steve to deliver these two beautiful Christmas cards!

I generally avoid the District if I can. The traffic is insane, the parking expensive, and it makes it a complex journey with three little ones. But since my brother and his girlfriend were here for a visit and she had never been to D.C., we took a morning and went in. The weather wasn’t great. Fortunately the rain held off til near the end of our sight-seeing, but due to time and rain we did make it a short visit.

We did stop by the Vietnam Memorial.

Fortunately, the Vietnam Memorial is right near the Lincoln Memorial, which was the one Olga said she most wanted to see. Can’t say as I blame her. It is one of my favorites.

With a double stroller, we took the elevator up and, not knowing when I’d be back, I had to get a couple of shots of my girls.

Cecilia adores posing for the camera so she was happy to oblige.

They had drained the reflecting pool in front of the Memorial and it was cloudy, but it is still a neat view.

Cecilia was particularly fond of the view. I think that was her favorite part. She might have loved running up and down the stairs, but I told her she couldn’t since they were wet and wet marble stairs can be slippery.

James has been having some discussions about ways in which our national religion might have become worshiping the country rather than God. So I took this shot for him when I noticed the word “temple” in the inscription. Plus, Lincoln is my favorite president and it is an awesome statue.

On the way back to the car, Cecilia said she got tired and even sat on the ground refusing to walk. So I put her in the stroller and carried Elizabeth while Elizabeth wore a blanket over her head to keep her dry. Since I was carrying Elizabeth though, Jon pushed the stroller. I had to get a picture.

So it seems that Cafe Leopold is selling mugs with bullet holes painted and words of praise for the NSG to commemorate first anniversary of 26/11 attack on Mumbai. And Shiv Sena is not happy at this. Hmm… I am not sure exactly what Shiv Sena is unhappy about. At one level, yeah sure we shouldn’t commercialize a tragic event like the 26/11 attack. However the Indian Flag sells on roadsides much like magazines, flowers, agarbatis and cheap tissue paper. And we buy them and proudly place them in our surroundings. So is it okay to commercialize patriotism but not okay to commercialize 26/11 even though the intention might be the same in both cases? And if it is okay to politicize religion, festivals, patriotism, cricket, why is commercialization not okay?

Obama Science Czar John Holdren is directly involved in CRU’s unfolding Climategate scandal.  In fact, according to files released by a CEU hacker or whistleblower, Holdren is involved in what Canada Free Press (CFP) columnist Canadian climatologist Dr. Tim Ball terms “a truculent and nasty manner that provides a brief demonstration of his lack of understanding, commitment on faith and willingness to ridicule and bully people”.

“The files contain so much material that it is going to take some time to put it all in context,” says Ball.  “However, enough is already known to underscore their explosive nature.  It is already clear the entire claims and positions of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) are based on falsified manipulated material and is therefore completely compromised.

“The fallout will be extensive as material continues to emerge.  Reputations of the scientists involved are already destroyed, however fringe players will continue to be identified and their reputations destroyed or sullied.”

While the mainstream media is bending into pretzels to keep the scandal under the rug, Climategate is already the biggest scientific scandal in history because of the global policy implications.

And caught some really good lines. And now, it’s on hiatus until next year when the propaganda ministry will have re-accomplished the reason for the V invasion. We had pandemics, epidemics, free health care (“You have this problem, we have a really big waiting list. But if you do this for us, we can move you up”), flu vaccines to get people sick (sound familiar? Flu pandemic?), and so on.

The HUMANS and some “Fifth Column” aliens are fighting back to insure they aren’t taken over.

What do you want to bet that when the show comes back the V’s REALLY DO want to help us. That they simply need to make us devoted and dependent so they can overcome our hesitance to accept their beneficent control over our lives against the human nature of control of our own lives. So they can make that “One World Government” of peace and love, if we’ll only see that they really want to do the best for us.

I will be the first to admit, that I am a celebrity following WHORE. I love all of the drama that seems to surround it all, and though I don’t necessarily believe all that I read, and think that a lot of celebrities just do not have the privacy they deserve, I can’t get enough of the tabloids, at least for my favorite/most hated stars. I could argue for hours about Jon & Kate Gosselin’s marriage, why I hate Kristen Stewart, and why Katy Perry is a hypocrite. This probably comes from me liking gossip and drama, but HATING it when it is in my life directly. I’d rather just see someone else’s :p

I find it a little sad though, that last year’s election became such a circus. I mean, candidates showing up on Saturday Night Live, making youtube videos, tweeting…it all got to be a little much. And even though I support our President and my country, I don’t want them to be celebrities. I want to sleep peacefully at night believing that my leaders are thinking about how to fix the economy, end the war we’re stuck in, etc. Not worrying about what to wear to their appearance on Letterman.

Thank gawd, I no longer have to fear that my country will be run under the guidance of Sarah Palin. I did however, LOVE how interesting she made the campaign; I was always wondering what she was going to do next. And now, she has a book out! I watched her interview with Oprah and loved it. She seemed a lot more prepared than she ever was when running for VP, and I even felt bad for her in some places. Since I heard about the book, I have wanted to get it, if only for a good laugh. And if she ever gets a talk-show like she is shopping around for, I would definitely watch it. I’ve been so torn over these past few weeks though, because even if I can sympathize with her on some things, I still think she’s an idiot, and pretty embarrassing. I’ve had many *headdesk* moments watching her. I just can’t bring myself to give her my money by buying it, so I may just wait until the library will have it and check it out.

Anyway, this all just came flooding into my head when I saw this cartoon. I thought I would right down my thoughts to remember them later, because gawd knows we’ll be telling our kids about her infamy someday

Kristinn Taylor is standing in line at the Barnes & Noble Bookseller store in Orlando along with some 1,000 others who are hoping to get a wristband. Why?

Kristinn, Free Republic media spokesman, says he arrived at the site at 7:45 a.m. to find that there were already 600 people snaked around the front, side and back of the building.  Also across a street between two buildings and back up the block, around the front of another set of stores, down that street, and in front of the local …  well, you get the idea.  It’s a line that snakes a total of seven blocks long.
“After they opened the doors at 9 a.m. we finally turned the corner to the front of the building, and have half a block to go,” Kristinn said.

“The people in line are roughly 50-50 male-female. Chris Matthews will be disappointed to learn that there are minorities in line also waiting to meet Sarah Palin.  The crowd is in a good mood and of course, we’re not leaving piles of trash, and in all other ways are well mannered.  And as usual with a gathering of conservatives, law enforcement presence is at a minimum. The women in line for this book signing are much more attractive than the women I saw at the Hillary Clinton booksigning some years ago that the Freepers protested at.”
Mercifully the late autumn Florida weather is cooperating.
“It’s in the 70’s and cloudy with a light breeze, so we’re not getting baked,” said the fair haired, fair skinned Freeper.
Earlier this morning Kristinn says “There was a real good Sarah Palin impersonator here .  A dead ringer.”
He says they’ve not been told by book store personnel how many wrist bracelets will be distributed.
“The assistant manager said that yesterday Palin’s tour staff authorized the Orlando store to issue “stand-by” bracelets which means that after those with the  lettered bracelets are done, if Palin is up to it she’ll start signing books for those in the stand-by line. But no guarantees. Yesterday, according to a Ft. Bragg Public Affairs Officer, Palin took care of 4,000 people. Another 500 disappointed fans were turned away.
“They were told that Palin has gotten into a good rythym and been able to pick up her pace signing books.  The bookstore manager said that in a meeting last week about the stop, stand by bracelets weren’t even an option.”
Earlier today at a Jacksonville book signing, Kristinn says it was reported that 500 bracelets were issued for that book signing.
Palin’s next stop today is at The Villages (site of Glenn Beck’s visit last Saturday), and then it will be on to Orlando with an estimated time of arrival at 7:30 p.m. tonight.
Orlando is the last stop of the first portion of her book tour before Sarah takes a break for the Thanksgiving holiday.
Kristinn says media coverage has been good.  “All the Orlando TV stations have been here, and Central Florida News 13 is still on site, conducting interviews.”
So as I leave him, Kristinn is in line. Still…

Military academies lack minority nominees

As the nation’s military academies try to recruit more minorities, they aren’t getting much help from members of Congress from big-city districts with large numbers of blacks, Hispanics and Asians.

From New York to Chicago to Los Angeles, lawmakers from heavily minority areas rank at or near the bottom in the number of students they have nominated for appointment to West Point, the U.S. Naval Academy or the U.S. Air Force Academy, according to an Associated Press review of records from the past five years.

High school students applying to the academies must be nominated by a member of Congress or another high-ranking federal official. Congressional nominations account for about 75 percent of all students at the academies.

Academy records obtained by the AP through the Freedom of Information Act show that lawmakers in roughly half of the 435 House districts nominated more than 100 students each during the five-year period.

But Rep. Nydia M. Velazquez of New York City, chairman of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, nominated only four students, the lowest among House members who served the entire five-year period. Rep. Charles B. Rangel, whose New York City district includes Harlem, was second-lowest, with eight nominations. And House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, whose San Francisco district is 29 percent Asian, was also near the bottom, with 19.

In fact, the bottom 20 House members were all from districts where whites make up less than a majority.

“It’s beyond my imagination how someone that has the ability to nominate doesn’t do it,” Craig Duchossois said in December at his final meeting as chairman of the Naval Academy’s Board of Visitors.

He noted what an academy appointment means: a free four-year education and a guaranteed job as an officer for at least five years after graduation.

Ms. Velazquez, Mr. Rangel and Mrs. Pelosi, all Democrats, would not comment or did not return calls.

Let’s not try to make this a racist issue, it’s an elitist anti-military issue
