Nos vamos por ahí de fin de semana (puedo irme más pero me quedo sin trabajo). Pero os dejo la que para mí es una de las 3 mejores sinfónicas del tío Gilbert. Una verdadera salvajada de tema.

The only UK date in their European tour: it was fairly safe to say early on that tonight’s show was going to pack out and rock out Shepherd’s Bush Empire and then some! The band strut on like they never had left and tear straight into Daddy, Brother, Lover, Little Boy sounding as tight and focused as ever. Of course the moment Paul Gilbert rips into the first of his million solos, the room cheers knowing fully well that tonight is going to a be full-on wankfest. And a great one at that, but more importantly Mr. Big always stood for more than that: allowing their songwriting to showcase technical ability and not the other way round. So why not throw a guitar / bass solo picked by an electric drill in the middle of a great rock song? 

They look a bit older and wiser, but it’s mindblowing to see the chemistry these guys still have together, even after so long apart (Gilbert left the band in 1997 and the whole band broke up in 2002). As always, Paul Gilbert terrifies us with his blistering picking and finger twisting arpeggios but seeing Billy Sheehan stroll on and start a duel is what makes this show truly memorable.

Tonight’s ‘Greatest Hits’ set is quite rightly based around the more successful first 3 albums, mixing heavier numbers like Addicted To That Rush with power ballads such as Just Take My Heart. Saying that, it’s great that the band manage to sneak in some unexpected tracks like Take Cover and Price You Gotta Pay, as well as the classics. Singer Eric Martin proves he can still hit the high notes on their worthy cover of Cat Stevens’ Wild World and seems pretty chuffed with himself for it.

The band start their encores with their biggest hit, To Be With You, which sounds as contemporary and catchy as it did back in 1991 but waste no time in following up with the more ballsy Colorado Bulldog to keep up momentum. The best moment tonight is when the band seem to be wrapping it up and someone throws a hand scrawled ‘Play Shyboy’ banner on stage – so they look at each other as if to say why the hell not and just go for it. Fucking Epic.

Not  so much a collaboration, more sheer luck, but still. This song is a masterpiece. Say what you want about Micheal Jackson, he was a musical Genius.

Damageplan & Corey Taylor – Fuck You
The Slipknot/Stone Sour frontman provided vocals on this venomous, hate filled track.

Fear Factory & Gary Numan – Cars
A re-invisioning of Gary Numan’s classic, both Numan and Bell share vocals, with a nice Metalificated (I’ve already explained, this IS a word) riff.

The Damned & Lemmy – Ballroom Blitz
Motorhead singer/bassist Lemmy Joined The Damned on bass for this cover of The Sweet’s Ballroom Blitz.

Paul Gilbert, Parry Gripp and MC Lars – Guitar Hero Hero (Beating Guitar Hero Doesn’t Make You Slash)
With Gilbert shredding, Parry Gripp on the chorus and MC Lars with the exellent verses, this ode to guitar hero is awesome.

Elton John & Alice In Chains – Black Gives Way to Blue
Elton joins AIC on piano for the heartfelt tribute to late vocalist Layne Staley.

Probot
A whole album, rather than a song. Foo Fighters frontman decided to make a metal album with all his heroes on vocals. The album featured Lemmy, King Diamond, Max Cavalera and Cronos, to name but a few.

Apocalyptica & Corey Taylor – I’m Not Jesus
Finnish Cello Metal band, Apocalyptica, teamed up with Corey Taylor for this track from the Worlds Collide album. This song proves that Corey is an excellent vocalist, clean or otherwise.

Aerosmith & Run DMC – Walk This Way
There’s not much that hasn’t already been said about this track, let’s let the music do the talking.

Anthrax & Public Enemy – Bring The Noise
My personal favourite collaboration, I choses this above Aerosmith/Run DMC  because unlike that song the lyrics in this one actually work with the collaboration, The lyrics are about how Hip- Hop should be treated equally to Metal and Rock music, and if this track doesn’t prove it, nothing will. Plus, the Public Enemy original even mentioned anthrax, these bands were meant for each other!

It’s been about 5 days since I caught the MR BIG reunion concert at Fort Canning park and boy am I still addicted to that rush! It was a great night – the crowd, the songs, the crazy bass and guitar solos, the sing-alongs – everything you ever wanted in a Mr Big concert!!

Hopefully they’ll come by again next year, I can’t wait to see them again!

We were such children in the presence of rock n’ roll gods Mr. Big.

Bea was just grinning ear to ear the whole time and looked like she was having a mini-orgasm every time Eric Martin looked her way, while my jaw literally dropped at 0:31 of the video when I realized the band was standing before me. How very undignified and un-Superstar-like.

We are the highest order Dorks from the land of Dorktopia. I am officially changing my name to Dorky Dorkenstein McDorkster, and am changing my website address from MDJSuperstar.com to MDJSuperdork.com.

Paul Gilbert and Billy Sheehan have such ginormous hands. And you all know what they say about men with big hands – I think there’s a very real reason why they call the band, “Mr. Big”…

And the whole time, I was just begging myself silently, “please don’t start giggling like a schoolgirl, please don’t start giggling like a schoolgirl…”

Legendary 90s rock band Mr. Big was incredibly thrilled to FINALLY meet Manila’s resident Rated-R Superstar, MDJ, at the VIP Meet & Greet in Singapore last October 18th. Confided Billy Sheehan to CNN.com immediately afterwards, “It was like… coming home.”

In an unparalleled act of graciousness, MDJ Superstar condescended to bestow upon the aging rock icons personalized sketches of each one demonstrating their respective musical talents.

Eric Martin was floored by the MDJ original piece of artwork highlighting his famous cheekbones, hair plugs, and cherry-red collagen pout.

Billy Sheehan was rendered speechless by the intense, brooding likeness MDJ put down on paper of him clutching his famous Fender bass guitar.

Paul Gilbert was in a mild sweat and later described the sensation of his pants tightening, as he reveled in the sketch of him that the rest of Mr. Big described as making him look “like an older Captain Jack Sparrow… only sexier.”

Pat Torpey reportedly experienced mild palpitations, and was advised by the physician on hand to refrain from strenuous activities over the next two weeks, all from the thrill of seeing himself sketched in a manner that was reminiscent of The Terminator.

Motivated by such enthralling presents from the famed MDJ Superstar, the band proceeded to put on a spectacular 2 1/2 hour show featuring such trademark Mr. Big hits as “Green-Tinted 60s Mind,” “Just Take My Heart,” “Addicted To The Rush,” as well as covers of AC/DC’s hard-rocking anthem “Highway To Hell,” and Deep Purple’s classic “Smoke On The Water.”

In an attempt to reciprocate the supreme generosity demonstrated by The Superstar, the band offered MDJ $25,000 and a 2-hour romp with their drunk Venezuelan groupies. MDJ Superstar, however, politely declined.

“Generosity,” he gently remonstrated the band, “is its own reward.”

Queridos lectores, aquí les presento a Billy Sheehan, ex-bajista de David Lee Roth, quien es considerado como uno de los mejores bajistas en el mundo junto con Les Claypool y Flea de los Red Hot Chilli Peppers, a pesar de utilizar un bajo de tan solo 4 cuerdas, hace magia con él logrando solos muy rápidos y  un hermoso uso de los armónicos, por lo que vale la pena presentarles unos videos que vislumbran su magnífica habilidad.
