A film which looks into several teenagers lives who attend the New York performing arts High School. Remember my name . . . FAME.

“If they’ve really got what it takes, it’s going to take everything they’ve got.”

I think that is a fantastic tagline and exactly what performing should be. It should take everything out of them and they should have to put everything into each aspect of performing arts, while also keeping up there normal academic school work.

The film focuses on the lives a few of the students and how they cope with personal issues in their private lives, juggling the performance and academic sides of school and living in general. Making friends with each other and attempting to help each other through the difficult times. Can they keep everything under control and get everything sorted to have the best of both worlds?

Irene Cara is Coco and sings the very famous Fame theme, which I have to admit is my favorite part of the film. On the radio with speakers from a Taxi playing out into the streets of New York, with all of the students at the school outside dancing in the street, on top of the cars and taxi’s. It really is just a brilliant dance/music moment in film – a non-musical movie at that.

Throughout this film we see dreams shattered, limits pushed and tested with everything. How far would you go to get to your dream, and succeed? We see this in instances of a girl being filmed and how naive she was to get herself into that situation but also her wanting stardom so much she would do what ever it took.

This is not a musical, the musical version has only been really done on the stage. But it does consist of a few musical numbers, but these are in no means over the top like in a musical. It is someone performing, at times it is there way of showing emotion and how they are feeling. A release instead of talking to someone through the performance in them.

For some reason I have really struggled to write this review, I am not really sure why as yes I do like this film a lot. But I guess when it comes to writing about it I am having like a mind blank or something. Maybe I will add to this at some point in the future.

Alguns episódios de ER não deveriam ser assistidos só um vez. Agora que a Warner quer ser um  “bom” canal e deixou de passar reprises de ER (a não ser uma lá no meio da madruga), sinto que não farei justiça ao comentar o ÓTIMO episódio que passou na quarta.

Desde a primeira cena, uma homenagem ao criador da série – Michael Crichton- feita por Dr. Benton (Eriq La Salle). Esse episódio foi uma homenagem após a outra: um homenagem ao bom roteiro, aos fãs e aos personagens inesquecíveis.

Porque ER (o dos velhos tempos, não a coisa sem rumo que estava passando nos últimos 3 anos) soube produzir personagens inesquecíveis. E o que, na minha opinião, foi o melhor de todos, reviveu na última quarta.

Não foi em forma de fantasma (!) para justificar uma doença incurável de alguém. Foi uma das “monobras de roteiro” dos velhos tempos.

Dra. Cate Banfield  (Angela Bassett) relembra da morte de seu filho enquanto tenta salvar uma menina. Em flashbacks

temos a oportunidade de rever Mark Grenne (Anthony Edwards), o personagem  inquestionável. Ele não se encaixava em nenhum arquétipo. Era um cara desengonçado que trabalhava bem, não era o vilão nem o mocinho, era normal.

Para fazer jus ao que Mark Greene foi para a série (ele foi o personagem principal por não menos que 8 anos), esse episódio trouxe de volta:

• a trilha sonora que não passava despercebida e que mantinha o ritmo da história
• Kerry Weaver (Laura Innes) – a bitch que tinha coração
• Haleh (Yvette Freeman)- a melhor enfermeira
• Roberto Romano (Paul McCrane) – o filho da puta que faz muita falta (acho a morte dele uma das poucas coisas desnecessárias e exageradas de ER)
• Jerry (Abraham Benrubi) – o atendente que não deveria ter saído

 ER deve ser o único seriado em que os personagens menores têm tanto destaque. O que seria ER sem as enfermeiras? Quem não se lembra de vários personagens que foram atendidos em 15 anos de série?

As quartas nunca foram tão esperadas.

Talvez não seja mesmo dos carecas que elas gostam mais. Ainda assim, mesmo que essa máxima não seja verdade, isso não quer dizer que todo careca é feio. Ao contrário. Careca está tão em alta que já foi inventada a categoria “careca de máquina”: os caras que estão cheios de cabelo, mas raspam ou passam máquina pra ele ficar bem curtinho. Quem se lembra das séries Top Carequinhas e Top Semi-Carequinhas Fazíveis que o PdUBT publicou cinco anos atrás? Faz tanto tempo que até cabe uma atualização, qualquer dia desses. O Ami de Miami Ink, citado na coluna8, por exemplo. O Bruce Willis, que tá bem mais fazível agora do que na época de A Gata E O Rato. O Vin Diesel, que não tá na coluna mas lembrei agora e xeu dizer antes que me esqueça.

E tu, tem algum fazível que não está na lista?

Oi pessoal,

espero que vocês estejam bem. MInha filha está melhor, mas quem adoeceu dessa vez fui eu. Mas tudo bem! Vou sobreviver a mais esse super resfriado. Com o frio que está fazendo aqui é normal resfriados, gripes, bronquites, etc… mas se Deus quiser vou ficar so no resfriado mesmo.

Ontem, enquanto lia meus emails, acabei indo parar no youtube, e como sempre uma vídeo puxa outro… num deles, de propagandas do inicio dos anos 80 (81 ou 82, não tenho certeza). Assisto as propagandas relembrando a minha infância até que, num comercial para a staroup (para que não sabe, ou não lembra, marca de jeans da época, que hoje já não existe mais) toca uma música que me faz chorar. Não, não foi o comercial em si que me fez chorar (o comercial era bem “average” para a época), mas a música que tocava nele.

Depois que me peguei chorando fiquei em estado de choque. “Meu Deus! Eu devo estar ficando velha!”, pensei. Admito que não sou o tipo de pessoa muito emotiva (nem muito menos emocional), sempre fui muito racional, às vezes até demais, e foi isso o que me maravilhou.

Não sei o que deu em mim. Apenas escutei a música, tão linda, simples na letra. De alguma forma aquela música me tocou o coração e me fez chorar. E o pior eu sequer sei o por que! E’… eu realmente estou ficando velha e de coração mole demais…

My first reaction to reading this news is Nooooooooooo!  Don’t try to remake a good thing!  “Fame” was the “High School Musical” of my time.  I quote it in the “About Me” section (well the quote is from the tv series).  I loved the movie AND the spinoff tv series.  I dreamed of going to NY School for the Arts.  Who could forget Leroy?  Coco?  Mrs. Sherwood?

Is Lakeshore Entertainment and MGM greedy for a piece of the current “High School Music” pie?  I totally heart HSM.  I have a HSM lunchbox, notebooks, and all kinds of goodies, but I TREASURE my Fame soundtrack.

Oh well, I guess it’ll give you younger ones a chance to enjoy a pop cult classic with a modern spin.

Fame, 1980, USA

Fame handlar om en kulturskola – typ Kulturama – där det är folk som dansar, folk som spelar instrument, folk som sjunger och spelar teater. I en av klasserna går Montgomery (Paul McCrane, han som spelar Dr. Romano i Cityakuten) – han är en av många huvudpersoner och han är homosexuell. Han blir kompis med medelmåttetjejen Doris och den osäkra latinokillen Raul (Barry Miller) som är klassens clown. Monty förser Raul med tunga antidepressiva medel som han själv fått hos psykologen (som han är förälskad i – drama!) och det finns en viss spänning mellan dem. Raul är lite homofobisk men han mjuknar till i slutet då han låter Monty smeka hans bara axlar i tröst (se den svartvita bilden nedan). Sista scenen man ser dem tillsammans ger Raul Monty en snabb och ärlig puss, så man kanske kan hoppas lite ändå? Jag har inte sett serien Fame än. /Imdb/

I figured that most people haven’t delved into my backlog of videos, but if this is a repeat for anyone, I’m sorry. The “I Hate My Boss” sign is old as well. I now have a great new boss, so just ignore the sign, please. It was from when I had a horrible boss! Well, I guess that is all I have to say. I hope you like the song. I didn’t know what to do with myself when I was recording, so I kind of look silly, but oh well. hehe.
