Eu estava twitando e me deparei com dois vídeos, um é da Susan Boyle e o outro é do Paul Potts, os dois não tem beleza física (nada que um bom cirurgião plástico e muito dinheiro não mude essa realidade), são bem judiados pela vida e com certeza também pelas pessoas que devem excluí-los da sociedade, afinal eles não passam pelo padrão de beleza que vivemos hoje em dia… Mas depois que os dois abrem a boca pra cantar, a beleza física é esquecida, afinal eles botam pra quebrar quando o assunto é música. Paul Potts, Gewinner der britischen Superstar-Show „Britain’s got Talent“, tritt seinen Siegeszug nun auch in Deutschland an. Heute ist der Vorverkauf für seine Tour gestartet.

Den Sieg bei der Casting-Show hat Paul Pott in jedem Fall verdient. Sein herausragendes Talent hat er im Finale mit einer Oper-Arie von Puccini unter Beweis gestellt, und damit die Jury und die Zuschauer überzeugt. Selbst vor Queen Elizabeth II. durfte Potts bereits singen.

Paul Potts, geboren 1970 im englischen Bristol, stammt aus einer Arbeiterfamilie und versuchte lange Zeit erfolglos, sein Talent unter Beweis zu stellen. Während er sich mittels verschiedener Jobs den Lebensunterhalt finanzierte, hielt er stets an seinem Traum fest. Der Sieg beim englischen „Superstar“-Ableger brachte ihm schließlich den verdienten Durchbruch.

As I already have expressed many times in this blog, especially in The terrifying lightness of denial and Is life really all that beautiful?, I am gradually perceiving and facing the horrible amounts of pain and suffering in this world and along with this and with my age the eagerness to save the world I once had, is slowly dying out. And the depression and apathy are creeping in.

But, occasionally, there are strong sun rays that break through the clouds and this growing shell of my pessimism, and here is one of them.

This is something I was presented two days ago and no matter how many times I watch it, it keeps always opening up my heart and filling my eyes with tears. Yes, there are beautiful things that still do happen and yes, sometimes they are being brought about by a very commercial things as well.

As one of my fellow bloggers said, the producers of this show perhaps this one time went to sleep with a warm feeling that they have actually enabled something beautiful to occur.

A few months ago, the inspiring and truly touching video of Paul Pott, an unassuming, mobile phone salesman singing Nesundorma on “Britain’s Got Talent” made the rounds and touched millions (over 27 Million page views to date). It’s the prototypical story of an uncool underdog finding his true calling, and becoming a hero for millions he inspired, by overcoming his insecurities and self-consciousness, and furthermore, overcoming the obvious prejudices of those who never thought he could pull it off, making them aware of their hypocrisy. It’s a great human moment, propagating the belief that anything is possible when you believe in yourself.

Now, the German Telekom usurped this spot to peddle their phones. The spot tries to do a good job of not being tacky by showing credible human reactions to Paul Pott’s singing (I myself got goosebumps and some tears, too), and it does have a nice end thought: “Life presents us with unique moments. It’s great that we can share them”. 

So, one could see the spot as a true human brand act, because a) Paul is seeing money for this b) more people hear his story: those who do not regularly go on youtube.

So in that sense, the brand’s act is to help Paul inspire more people. However, it still left me with stale taste seeing the brand’s products in a phenomenon that the brand nothing to do with. It feels dirty when brands take acts of others and use them to peddle their stuff. It’s definitely better to create your own, especially when it can be said that there are some things in life that are beautiful and bigger the way they are, without companies meddling with it. Apart from that, there is an obvious disconnect between “sharing your experiences” to Paul’s “doing what he was born to do.” It’s clumsy and artifical. They could have helped the phenomenon without butchering it into an ad.

Vårat hem ser ut som värsta it-kontoret. Samtidigt sker olika instalationer på tre datorer och jag får nu sítta på en bärbar med spanskt tangentbord! Hur svårt är inte det! Borta är den sköna känsla jag fick nyss när jag gjorde en ansiktmask. Hade tänkt mig då under tiden lyssna på min Paul Potts cd som jag fick för ett par veckor sedan, men den är borta. Det vågar jag inte tala om…så nu måste jag bara hitta den!

Der Gemaux hört ja neben Northern Soul, Ska, Funk, Dub, Rocksteady (Musik mit Blech drin) auch heimlich Klassik. Nicht professionell und gegen die Kulturprofis dieser Republik eher nur in der 89. Liga. Und ist auch völlig unkerlig noch nie im Theater bei einer Oper eingeschlafen. Dies fand ich in meiner Inspirationsquelle.

Dieser Link zieht mir die Schuhe aus. Mir fällt leider nichts weiteres mehr ein.

Mal ehrlich. Dieser Mensch verkaufte bisher nur Mobiltelefone und keinem ist das Talent aufgefallen?

Relata una amiga que se enamoró del hombre más feo de la Universidad y que lo pensó muchas veces para presentarlo en su casa y a sus amigos. “No es que sea materialista -decía- Pero es realmente feo, todo, su pelo, su barba, su ropa… Y estoy más enamorada”.

Ese feo tiene un extraño encanto y no le despierta ningún tipo de celos porque considera que otras no van a pelearse por él. Pero créanme que hay muchos feos que rompen corazones y hasta nos hacen llorar.

Esa historia la contó otra amiga: ese feo que nadie mira la desprecia a cada rato y tiene el ego más alto que el resto de guapos que conoce. La planta, le propone relaciones polígamas, dice que no puede reservarse para ella sola y lo peor: piensa que es lindo. Aun así, lo quiere. Pero sigue la pregunta: ¿qué encanto tienen los feos?

Se entiende perfectamente el encanto de este hombre, Paul Potts, pero otros que ni ese talento tienen por qué pueden llegar a lugares del alma donde otros no han podido…
