This fourth entry in THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS franchise reunites the original stars: Michelle Rodriguez, Paul Walker, Jordana Brewster, and of course the bad dude himself, Vin Diesel. Needless to… This fourth entry in THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS franchise reunites the original stars: Michelle Rodriguez, Paul Walker, Jordana Brewster, and of course the bad dude himself, Vin Diesel. Needless to say, there’s going to be a lot of speed and demolition, especially in the fantastic opening truck hijack executed at amazing speeds by Dominic (Diesel) and his sexy partner in crime, Letty (Rodriguez). When Letty gets killed, it’s revenge time, with the path of the bad guy leading Dominic back across the border to Los Angeles (where he’s still wanted by the law) and into a high-stakes street race in which he’s teamed up with his old nemesis, undercover fed Brian O’Conner (Walker). As in the original, Brewster makes a foxy love interest for Walker (she’s Dom’s kid sister), but there’s not much time for kissing: there’s races to be won, huge accidents to cause, and shady smuggling plots to foil. Fans of the series should be too busy digging the NO2-powered action to notice if there’s anything missing in the storyline, which caterwauls along with gleeful abandon and disregard for logic, sanity, and speed limits. Directed with a sure hand by Justin Lin (TOKYO DRIFT), FAST & FURIOUS features loads of hot babes, and Diesel is as ripped, raging, and gravel-voiced deadpan as ever.

The Movie Overdose attempts to contain the apocalypse with a review of Roland Emmerich’s 2012. We chat about how we would change Eddie Murphy for the better, what kind of sequel we want for Star Trek and whether we are glad to see Sean Connery coming back, if only in voice form. Tom slightly dampens the praise given to An Education and Sam revels in the madness of Running Scared and the flawed ambition of Dogma. The conclusion involves a discussion of actors that, no matter what, we always look forward to seeing on screen.

Yes, here I am, sitting back in Hintertupfing and I am so much more confused then I was when I left!

Yes, here I am, sitting back in Hintertupfing and I am so much more confused then I was when I left! Part of me thought that I would be so upset on the flight back, but I honestly wasn’t. True, I miss my friends so much, but as we have the chat on the internet and email, I speak to them all the time anyway. There is of course nothing better then sitting in your friends living room with a glass of wine, drooling over Vin Diesel and Paul Walker, having a giggle and then falling asleep on their couch, only to wake up with a blanket over you. Gosh, I had such a great time!

Friday was nice, I went shopping, then saw Miss P, Miss M and Miss K for some coffee. Did I mention how much I miss Starbucks skinny latte?? When I sat in the Cafè in Liverpool Street on Friday, sipping my coffee, watching people walk past the huge window, I felt like a tiny little goldfish that had been dropped into the sea IN his fishbowl. Does that make sense? Aaaanyway, after that, went shopping for some new clothes. Managed to bag a gorgeous pair of leather boots in black, a jumper and a cardigan. Ah, yes, there where some more little bits and bobs of course. Did I mention that I love Primark? Everything is so cheap! You actually get a hot pair of shoes for under 20 pounds. Not bad, eh? They might not last that long, but if you are off to a party and intend to wear them just to that – perfect!

Saturday was spent in the most chilled way possible. We watched Dragon Slayer on TV, commented on by moi – of course – and R cooked some fantabolous fajitas. Hmmmm, heaven! Went into London afterwards with a bottle of champagne and 3 plastic glasses. No, not trashy, that is called bohemian!! W, R and I had to wait for A, a little bit so we decided to walk across Battersee Bridge to enjoy the lights. Might be able to post some pics later on if R lets me have some. When A turned up we made our way into Battersee Park and after locating the loo, where finally ready for the fireworks. Ahs and Ohs can not describe the loveliness! Possibly the best fireworks I have ever seen! The theme of the night was LOVE and as Boyfriend was absent, I had to make do with thinking of him and hugging him in my thoughts.

Sunday – went to my mother in law’s for dinner and then off to the airport, where I managed to buy two more books. I am so excited about the new Phillipa Gregory book! Will update you on how it is.

Now, I am back and trying to do my very best not to get down on myself. I am going to concentrate on Mary and Molly again, so I can finish that book of mine.

Hold fast my friends!

Me xx

P.S.: Sissy, I got you the English Vogue – it will cheer you up, PROMISE! Will pass it on to my brother tonight so he can pass it on to yours. Should be with you tomorrow night. Oh, and I am also sending my Shakespeare and Jane Austen stuff over. xx

“This is why they call the Motion Pictures!”

Wertung: 7 / 10

One of the convenient parts about movies is that they allow stuff to happen that otherwise couldn’t

One of the convenient parts about movies is that they allow stuff to happen that otherwise couldn’t be done in real life. Very rarely do we ever get a film that feels like it’s abiding by what could or would actually occur but this is part of why certain films are fun to watch (they help you take your mind out of reality for some fun). However, there are certain scenes that push the idea of plausibility to the point that it’s either just plain silly or simply annoying. So I’m here to give you ten of the most implausible movie scenes that I’ve ever come across.

10. That’s One Fast Train and Signal-The Fast and the Furious

It’s not like The Fast and the Furious had realism on its side in the first place. Just about anyone who knows cars well enough should know that an Eclipse with $10,000 worth of upgrades shouldn’t be able to clear a quarter mile in 10 seconds (even with NOS). However, one scene that I recently noted as being particularly odd is at the end when Paul Walker and Vin Diesel are racing head-to-head in a Supra and Charger, respectively. However, after they’ve already started racing for the finish line (aka the train tracks) we see that the signal goes down and they narrowly avoid getting crashed (well, one of them does). But since these are supposed to be ten second cars, that means the train which they just narrowly avoided came within less than 10 seconds with no warning until after they headed off. I don’t know about you, but I can’t recall the last time a train signal was that slow or a train came that abruptly.

9. No One Sees the Monster-Cloverfield

It’s pretty tough to find little details in Cloverfield since for just about all of the action scenes the camera is shaking around like crazy but it is possible to find little pieces. And perhaps the most abrupt part of the film is it’s ending, which you need to look in the background to see why they picked it. Essentially we can see what’s supposedly the monster falling from the sky and into the ocean. Yet if the bulk of the film itself is of any indication, apparently no one saw the monster go into the ocean. This is very unlikely since the film takes place in a present setting so there obviously must have been reports of the monster. Additionally, I find it very unlikely that not a single person who could do or say anything didn’t see the monster crash into the water. While it can be argued that we don’t see or hear enough in the film itself to confirm this, until we get more background with a follow-up it’s still highly improbable.

8. Burt Is Alive!-Tremors 3: Back to Perfection

Tremors are definitely one of the series of films that you take your mind out of and can easily enjoy. While the films are genuinely fun and great watches (the first two anyways), there is a scene in the third installment that’s just, well, ridiculous. Fans of the series can instantly identify the one constant character: Burt Gummer. There’s one scene in the film where the most infamous creature of the series (graboid) gets and eats him…only somehow he’s still alive inside the monster and is able to clearly communicate to someone simultaneously. While we have heard a character or two in previous installments scream while being dragged into the ground, Burt, on the other hand, is inside the graboid and comes out without seeming all that affected. Similar could also be said about how Tommy Lee Jones from Men in Black is able to survive as long as he does inside an alien but since Burt manages to multitask while inside and manage to break clearly, this gets the edge.

7. The Bus Jump-Speed

This scene is what actually gave me the inspiration to do a list of implausible movie scenes. And of course the one scene that I can never be convinced of is the fifty foot jump across an unfinished bridge. While Keanu Reeves says there might be an incline and we do see one for the shot the bus apparently lifts, we clearly see in other shots that there’s no such incline on either side of the bridge. There’s also the bus landing which is less convincing if anything. For the shot we see of the bus landing on the other side it looks like it’s coming down smoothly from a high area. And of course they manage to keep it going over 50 MPH even with the landing the bus likely hitting no higher than 80 MPH when hitting the jump. The film is a fun watch, but some of the scenes take me out too much. This is the big one.

6. The Sharp Landing Turn-Air Force One

Here’s another film that tests its realism in a number of scenes but for the most part these aren’t to the point that Speed hits. Yet one scene that I always say “they’d be so dead right there” is after the plane lands during the Russian takeover scene. There’s a part where we see the plane take a rather abrupt and sharp turn that causes the left side to come very close to the ground. This is where my belief ran out the window. A plane such as Air Force One has to weigh several tons and making a turn as nasty as that would definitely make the left wing/engines scrap the ground from the weight transfer and cause a nasty incident (to say the least). Wolfgang Peterson’s a great director and I love him for bringing us Das Boot, but that scene can never convince me.

There are movies that need to be seen multiple times to be properly enjoyed. Jokes which may have fallen flat the first time around end up producing uproarious laughter after the fifteen viewing. Actions scenes are crisper, dialogue is sharper. There are also movies which are so bad that they must be viewed again and again to bask in the terribleness of it all. 2 Fast 2 Furious falls into the latter. The 2003 movie starred the completely wooden actor Paul Walker, non-actor and semi-popular singer Tyrese Gibson, a hot Eva Mendes playing a hot Eva Mendes-type character, and the utterly forgettable Cole Hauser. No one puts in a great performance; indeed, all but Mendes put in terrible ones. As previously stated, Walker is lifeless, delivering lines with the charisma of a mummified corpse. Tyrese talks loudly, that’s for damn sure! Mendes really does dress well, and look at those gams! It’s a sight to behold.

The story begins a bit of time after the end of the first movie, with Walker’s Brian O’Conner turning away from law enforcement and on the run due to letting Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) escape. One would think that he’d somehow meet back up with Toretto and their adventures would continue, but no. Diesel had enough of the franchise and wanted to move onto bigger and better things, and so that was out. The other actor of consequence gone is Michelle Rodriguez. That means the only two interesting characters from the first film are both absent from the the sequel. Good start!

Instead, O’Conner (or Bullitt) teams up with Tyrese’s Roman Pearce for 100 minutes of horrible line delivery, vacant stares, uber-unrealistic driving, and random gun-firing. It’s great! At one point O’Conner and Pearce are on the run and turn their car completely around, and while driving backwards they actually pick up speed and fire guns out the window. It’s so ridiculous, so obviously created to look cool, that it’s incredibly fun. Like the rest of the movie, it’s all flash and no substance. The plot is pointless and illogical, so I’ll avoid discussing it other than to say that Mendes’ character is hooked up with a drug lord…but she’s undercover! Or is she double-crossing the FBI?! Will we ever find out?! Who cares?!

The movies starts out with perhaps the best unintentionally funny back and forth of all-time. It happens before a big street race, where everyone’s car is tricked out and so are their women. O’Conner sees his friend Suki, and they catch up:

O’Conner: “Sup Suki” *nods head*

Suki: “Sup Bullitt”

They so perfectly capture the essence of human friendship there. Words be damned, head nods and sups are all that are needed to express emotions. Phillip Seymour Hoffman would be proud.

Director John Singleton is, to be fair, not a terrible director. Or, at least he wasn’t back when he was making Boyz In Tha Hood and Higher Learning. Since then he’s churned out 2F2F, the updated Shaft, and Four Brothers, where he decided that Tyrese did such a terrific job for him on 2F2F that he’d hire him all over again. Something magical happened on the set of 2F2F, though. The street races became crazier, with the nitrous becoming vastly overused, he was given no good actors to work with, and there is no sense of a script. Singleton does an admirable job in simply taking the leap to make the world completely and utterly unreal. If he tried to fancy it up with ‘drama’ and real emotions it’d just get in the way the fun mess this turned out to be. So kudos to Singleton for just letting go of any standards he may have previously had. Standards would’ve just screwed up the party.

If you enjoy fast cars, lots of obligatory female flesh, horrible acting, and no plots, this movie is for you. It was definitely for me. Oh shit, and did I forget that Ludacris is involved?! And he says this: “Damn, Suki, uh… When you gonna pop my clutch, huh?”

Thank the lord for Troma. Seriously, I know that sounds like a daft thing to say, but I’ve seen an awful lot of absolute rubbish recently and to return to the warm and cuddly embrace of the kings of schlock is a wonderful relief- they’re people that don’t deliberately make “bad” films, they do it by accident because they lack the actual ability to make good films. Nonetheless, they always make entertaining films.

Yet, and this is always an interesting point for me, the 80’s Troma oeuvre had a sly intelligence at work. Even at their most catastrophically stupid (like The Toxic Avenger) there’s a subtle element of parody happening. This film is exactly the same- it’s ostensibly a monster movie, but is actually a cack handed social satire, a glorious pastiche of monster flicks and a reasonably intelligent social commentary.

It’s also, and this is astounding for Troma, got a good cast of solid professionals. There are a few hilarious cameos to be spotted (that I’ll point out later) but other than that it’s competently acted by proper character actors. The script, admittedly, isn’t up to much and the design borders on shoddy, but overall this is a most un-Tromalike film.

To explain the plot of this film is pretty easy. It’s about a monster that lives in the closet of a northern Californian town that kills people for no apparent reason- including nailing a dog to the door, a child and a blind man. A group of survivors and the US army attempt to kill it, but it turns out the monster is indestructible. After attempt number 7 on the monsters life, it falls in love with the male reporter and takes him off to San Francisco. However, the Doctor has twigged that the only way to kill the monster is to destroy all closets- which the natives of San Francisco seem to enjoy. The monster dies of exposure.

What’s good about this film? Well, it’s Troma, so is, to put it gently, superficially catastrophically dumb. The elderly professor character attempts to communicate with the monster using only a xylophone and a Close Encounters lite series of notes. This leads to an immensely dumb moment watching an Einstein resembling old man play a xylophone with a goofy grin plastered across his face while a possibly homosexual monster mewls in response. However, the old man clearly didn’t think out his communication properly, and (in my opinion) in his sequence of notes clearly called the monster a cunt, so vengeance is swift and terrible.

Most of the time, Troma films are just stupid, but this one is attempting to be something more. The film is laced through with references to the other films even finishing with the infamous beauty killed the beast line from King Kong. For example, our intrepid journalist hero is a good-looking beefcake with thick glasses called “Clarke” that works for a paper called “The Daily Globe”. Familiar? If not then there’s a shower scene (that’s a bit unfunny to be honest and goes on far too long) that rips straight from Psycho. Or how about when the soundtrack plays sections of Tubular Bells? It’s a not a smart arsed spoof like Scary Movie, rather it’s a properly designed pastiche that references other work without the reference being the end in itself.

The monster himself is blatantly rubber. He also looks like a big brown sack of shit. You really have to work harder than this to impress me. However, as much as the design of the monster is lacking, he has got a character most unexpected- he loves the cock. I know this sounds like a bit of a joke, but at no stage in this film has there been the slightest indication that the monster is female. He may be, but given that he falls for Clarke when his glasses are removed and takes him to San Francisco where he dies because he’s unable to get back into the closet, it isn’t a huge leap of faith to assume that he’s a big gay monster. I don’t want to delve back into the murky world of mutant rubber sexuality, but I’m going to make the leap of faith that because he has a second head that pops out of an opening that may or may not be his mouth and is clearly meant to represent a penis- I’m going for him being male. His first kills are hilarious in themselves, in that he entices people into the closet and then they die in a flurry of clothes thrown backwards on to the floor. You don’t see them, and there isn’t anything resembling blood or gore.

The script contains the usual clangers, but is kind enough to throw in many a laugh out loud line to keep me happy- the “destroy all closets” scene I quoted above is an absolute pearler- especially as it then cuts to a strange montage of people destroying their closets. Watch out for the Japanese Samurai who takes his apart with a katana. Hilarious.

Now for the bad: Paul Walker and Fergie make their first appearances in this film. Fergie I forgive, because she dies pretty fast, but Walker is a main character. His acting in this film is dreadful, but even worse than that, this performance as a kid far outstrips every other performance he’s ever done- especially The Fast and The Furious. Maybe he got his penchant for homo-erotic garbage from being wrestled by two burly men in this film?

There’s also a fair amount of downright shoddiness in it. When the monster attempts to travel to the Transamerica building in San Francisco, he does it down a street that is blatantly not anywhere near San Francisco. I’m personally not sure about this, but Mrs. Jarv is from SF and swears blind that this is the case. It’s kind of indicative of the film as a whole, really, with continuity errors and gross incompetence mixing with intelligence and panache. For example, the xylophone scene mentioned earlier has a howling continuity blunder in it: after the monster finishes the Doctor off, the entire US army fire straight away with rocket launchers, grenades and all sorts of other ordinance. The old guy is lying next to the monster on the floor. I’m not an expert in explosives, but surely the old guy should be splattered all over Northern California? Instead, he’s not got a scratch.

Overall, would I recommend it? Yes. It’s an enjoyable little film that mixes moments of genius with moments of blatant stupidity. I like it and it comes as a very pleasant relief after some of the utter shit I’ve inflicted on myself recently.

Nothing like a Restraining Order to make a relationship seem meant to be..So with that said, he’s starring in a new movie with Paul Walker (hottie) Matt Dillon,TI (anotha Hottie) Hayden Christensen, and others called Takers. He has also vowed to never speak on his biggest mistake again. To which I say..yea that might be a good idea cause when u open your mouth you insert your foot. Hey we all do.

Facts of the BFG: Let's Do This

In 1985 or there close within, a young rapper named LL Cool J burst onto the scene with his fresh, innovative, and ultimately brash single, “Rock the Bells” under the label Def Jam. Who could possibly forget such classic lines as, “You bring the woodpecker, I will bring the wood”? Our favorite line from the single, however, would be that of, “I will battle anybody, I don’t care you tell…” And with such a boast, LL reigned supreme for years with Earl, the DJ whose hand was like a shark’s fin on the wheels of steel.

There has been enough smack talking from the likes of many platinum heavyweights to last a lifetime, and frankly, Universal Artists, International and Joe Stern-McGovern, global agent and President of the company, have decided it’s time to call all bluffs, to stop those who would deal from the bottom of the deck, to prove their own worth, and to reign supreme, just as their ancestor, LL Cool J, did in the mid-80s. With an eye towards cornering the rap market by somewhere around 2014, Universal Artists, International has announced to the world, “You think you can touch this, you talkin’ to me, well then let’s cash battle, sucker DJs”*.

Joe Stern-McGovern: A Challenge for Charity

Beginning January 2010, Universal Artists, International’s heavyweights, Black Flock Gang aka BFG from the self-titled smash CD, BFG, and their oft featured artists, Christian Levi and Ms. Kesha Lee, will set out on the road to battle all comers to prove their dominance in the highly competitive world market. Sucker DJs globally, be prepared to be shut down, to have your mama thoroughly disrespected, to bow your heads in shame, and to wipe those saline tears of miserable failure away as you have your proverbial asses handed to you Dirty South Style courtesy of the BFG.

DO: Ain't No Other

Is this a claim on behalf of the notorious, infamous, and supreme BFG that the South trumps east, west, and midwest? Certainly not. Why might one ask? Simply said, with the versatility of the BFG, they consider themselves masters of every variation, bringing due respect and paying homage to each in their own way. Not only will the Black Flock Gang break out in verse to make the hardest of the Eastern seaboard suffer whiplash, they will rock the richter scale until California falls off and into the ocean as the next largest island of the world. If they fail to show restraint, California might entirely become the next Atlantis.

Fans Awaiting the BFG Concert

Sucker DJs of every realm, bow down in reverence as the kings who came to save the game pass before your mortal eyes. You name the place, you name the date, you name the style, and watch yourselves stepped on like a petulant red ants on a picnic blanket. The BFG will demand nothing short of your full measure of respect. Show them a line and they will cross it in a minute. If you can see them, it’s too late to run.

The Honorable Hood Shuttlesworth

“Disciples of soul, godfathers of rap, our rhythm is down as your mama is whack,” claims Japan’s lead envoy for Universal Artists, International. Yes, the BFG have already made their way overseas and leveled the best the Japanese market has to offer in exhibition shows against some of the greatest styles in the manner of Ludacris, Lil’ Jon, Slim Thug, Ice Cube, and even the tattoed poet himself, Lil’ Wayne.

No one can bring the energy of the BFG, no one can match their verbal skills and delivery. The BFG will make a grown man cry to any of the numerous beats by Tiptonville, Tennessee’s own A-Dub, conqueror of crunk and his cohort, 731 joker of Lake County and pop’s answer to the age old question of the chicken and the egg, Lil’ J.

A-Dub & Lil' J: I Been On

Is this challenge by Joe Stern-McGovern of Universal Artists, International belligerent? Not at all, it simply underscores the supremacy and dominance of the BFG for any of the unenlightened, ill spoken, disrespectful, or simply “act a fool” MC. Like Hammer said in his time, “Can’t touch this,” and from the likes of Public Enemy, “Don’t believe the hype,” and Vanilla Ice…well, let’s not even go there…

In words of caution from those under the Shaka Productions camp in Birmingham, Alabama, “Man up, fool, check your D, because you’re ’bout to feel the fury of the BFG, B!”

In a quote from Joe Stern-McGovern, he summarizes his own take on the legends come to be publicly, collectively, and individually as the BFG,

“You cannot hold down the human spirit any easier than you can surpress the intellect. Give it some time, and it’s certain to rise to the surface and beyond your wildest dreamsn and expectations”.

When asked about the BFG and their lyrics, methods, and take on life, the company’s President, Joe Stern-McGovern, gave the following response,

“When I was a youth myself, we realized we were doing many sectors and slices of society a disservice, socially and politically speaking. These children were fed on the lies, corruption, and propaganda of forces supposedly larger than themselves, but they’ve risen, risen from the plumes with a message which won’t be swept beneath the carpet.”

Joe Stern-McGovern: President of Universal Artists, International

Joe Stern-McGovern continued to state,

“Their lyrics are a social commentary, a take on their lives in a society which has tried to mold them into what they wanted them to be, pawns and worker ants to the queen, but they have a message to send with their own take on the turn fate has handed them.

If the world, let alone any invidual has taken up issue with the BFG? In a quote from Joe Stern-McGovern,

“Society has made their bed, now they can lie in it. If the powers that be cannot deal with the indignance of the disenfranchised who refuse to be categorized or smothered by sweeping generalizations, let them do better next time, and try harder with future generations”.

Lo of the BFG: The Usual Suspect

In a quote from Joe Stern-McGovern,

“The dye is cast with this lot, and now society will face their full fury, as well as their sometimes poetically beautiful take on the human condition.”

In one word from one journalist, “Wow!”

The black flock gang has arrived, and will continue to reign supreme as long as they care to carry their message, and once having done so in a manner of haughty arrogance coupled with humility, the saviors of the hustle many call rap will pass on the torch to their own sons and daughters for millions to thrill to in future battles.

Mouf Piece of Da City: In the Penthouse
