They screwed the “pooch” last year so much that the economy almost went down the drain with the company. Maybe it’s time for the American public to stand up and enforce some good old Texas justice. Find the nearest large tree and hang them up for all to see. Sometimes, reinforcement is the best example for others to follow.

Today, the 186 year-old British confectionery and beverage company Cadbury agrees to £11.9 billion takeover deal by American food giant Kraft Food, after 4 months of negotiation since September 2009. The Cadbury board once dismissed an initial £10.5 billion as too cheap, but they couldn’t resist when Kraft raised their offer to 840 pence a share. British manufacturing, once made the nation prosperous after the Industrial Revolution, has been declined in recent years. Therefore, a takeover of Cadbury by a foreign company, one of the few globally competitive manufacturer left in the country, is another blow for many British (except investors). Kraft will borrow £7bn ($11.5bn) to finance the deal, and there are some fears over possible cost and job cuts at Cadbury’s UK operations with 4,500 workers. I don’t like Cadbury’s chocolate as it is too sweet for me and leave me some aftertaste – therefore the deal doesn’t affect me (see my past related entry). But Europe’s biggest chocolate eater British people’s love and attachment towards Cadbury is very strong, and many groups against the takeover have been formed over the internet such as facebook and other SNS during the process. The Evening Standard article reveals that Cadbury CEO, who had been highly critical of Kraft as an unsuitable partner with low growth prospects, is expected to walk away with a payout worth £7 million, and the article gives an impression that he agreed the offer for his own personal gain (and it is probably true).

Unlike the countries with a tendency of Economic Nationalism such as Germany, France and Italy, this labor government has pursued “open door” policy, letting many British companies fallen to foreign managements in recent years: Tata Motors of India obtained Jaguar and Land Rover from Ford, and no more Rover cars currently in production. Our electricity supplier changed from London Electricity to EDF Energy, UK subsidiary of the French state-owned EDF SA, without realizing it. BMI (British Midland Airways) was taken over by German carrier Lufthansa in 2009. British banks Abbey and Bradford & Bingley (once nationalized due to the credit crunch) has been rebranded as Santander, Spanish owner of the banks, from 10th of this month, and Alliance & Leicester will follow Abbey and Bradford & Bingley later this year (click here for BBC article). BBA (BAA Airports Ltd), the owner and operator of several airports domestic and worldwide, is now owned by an international consortium led by the Spanish Ferrovial Group.

このブログのために色々調べていて、ふとこのキャドバリーのテレビ広告を思い出した。二人の子供が音楽に合わせて眉毛を動かすこのCM「Eyebrows」、昨年はブログやユーチューブで、カルト的人気を誇った。

While I was searching about Cadbury, I thought about this cute and funny Cadbury TV ad, “Eyebrows“, two children moving their eyebrows up and down to the beat of the song. It has a cult popularity, and it has been talked a lot among bloggers last year, and had been viewed more than 4 million times on YouTube and other sites in its first 3 weeks.

Life Insurance Vs Life Assurance

People spend a lot of money on complicated financial products and it is sometimes difficult to keep track of what products perform what tasks. Many people are not aware of all the financial products that are available or they only know of them vaguely. They may not know how much they cost or the potential benefits they offer. How can consumers make informed decisions on what products they would be willing to buy if they do not have this basic information? This problem can often lead to consumers buying unsuitable of overpriced products simply because they feel they should have some financial protections available but don’t have the details to make an informed choice.

One of the common questions many consumers have is regarding the difference between insurance policies and assurance policies. Put simply, insurance policies cover the costs of an event that might happen while assurance policies will pay out on the occurrence of an event that is certain to happen. Insurance policies only last for a specific period of time. If the event occurs within that time, they pay out, otherwise they are finished. Therefore, if no claim can be made within the term of the policy, they have no remaining value.

Guaranteed Payout

An assurance policy is different. Assurance policies always pay out. For example, a life assurance policy will generally pay out upon death or upon reaching the age of 65. How does this policy work? Well, they combine two elements; an insurance element, which will pay out if, the person dies early. This will then be used to pay for the funeral or support his family. But then there is another payment made every year and this is the investment portion. The insurance company invests this part of the premium on behalf of the policyholder and when they reach the age of 65, they pay this out. Life assurance policies are therefore often used both as a method of life insurance and as a method of saving for retirement.

Do You Need Money Now?

If you wish to cash in the investment portion of a life assurance policy early this is generally possible. However, there will usually be hefty penalties added to this so it is unadvisable to cash in early if you don’t have to. The distinction between insurance and assurance is also becoming more blurred as more companies offer both types of policy or add features of one type of policy to their other type to make them more attractive. The distinction is still important so that you know what to ask for and know what kinds of facilities are available for insuring your life and providing for your future.

Conan O’Brien has confirmed he’s leaving NBC’s The Tonight Show as Jay Leno will take over.

According The Daily Beast Conan “will leave NBC and the network will make an as-yet unspecified payment. According to the source, the resolution to the epic and highly public battle came down primarily to the size of the check that NBC would write to O’Brien. That amount remains shrouded in mystery for now, and no doubt the parties will have to agree to confidentiality as part of the deal.”

It’s sad to see Conan go but we always liked him better in NYC. He seems out of place in L.A.

But, we would certainly love to know the amount of the payout!

Smarkets attended a fascinating presentation by Paul Davis from Counting House at eGaming Review Liv

Smarkets attended a fascinating presentation by Paul Davis from Counting House at eGaming Review Live last week. Paul talked about how there is a trend towards paperless banking in general life but online gaming is actually an exception. Counting House’s figures showed that electronic payouts were nine times higher than cheques by volume (from January to July 2009), but those cheques were actually worth 8 times more than the electronic payouts.

If gambling is frowned upon (or even illegal) then many punters will request large cheque payouts rather than electronic transfers. Cheques are easier to turn into cash without the accounting trail associated with bank transfers and cheques are a physical piece of paper, this makes bragging in front of your mates much more effective.

Another interesting slide Paul presented was this table which shows the percentage split of payouts:

 Bank Transfers

Payment wallets (such as Moneybookers and Neteller) are gaining ground in popularity in many markets. This an area Smarkets has been investigating and (if we can get the costs to the right level) it’ll be something we’ll be adding in future releases.

Details of Elin Woods’ newly-rewritten prenup emerge

Elin and Tiger Woods had a prenuptual agreement, as expected. The couple is undergoing marital counseling, as you’d also expect. And now The Daily Beast is reporting that Elin Woods is renegotiating that prenup to get an immediate $5 million payout from her husband and as much as $55 million more to stay with him for two more years.

The initial prenup was worth $20 million after 10 years of marriage. However, the Chicago Sun-Times’ Bill Zwecker has reported that Elin Woods will receive an immediate payment “into an account she alone controls,” and that the 10-year timeframe — which began when they married in 2004 — has been shortened and the value increased “substantially.”

Of course, member will always like to pay as little as possible and receive all there is. Well, it

Of course, member will always like to pay as little as possible and receive all there is. Well, it’s not really nice to make a girl get undressed and going straight into the action and actually expect for her to cum in 3 minutes if you can do that…

The world of Video Chat has what we can call “show girls” who do all you want, as fast as you want it for the smallest amount of money possible. These girls get undressed even if you did not ask them to and can insert into themselves a monster dildo even without taking the time to get wet – they’re 24/7 wet, hot and ready to make you cum! They will even try to suck on their own clit, get a whole hand inside their thight ass, rub their pussy and moan for you.

Where does this come from? Most of us know that countries like Russia, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania, Czech Republic etc – mostly the East European countries are poor. People in here earn very little so it’s understandable when a girl tries to do it all for you in very little time. Some of them (a big part of them, lately) get undressed and display full nudity with sexual matters even in free chat! I don’t really know why they do that, because obviously, men will cum in free-chat and won’t even care for a private anymore.

At the beggining of this business, there were only a few girls and of course, a lot less members. But all of the members were shy and were sometimes waiting for hours to catch a performer in free chat and be able to take her private. He would take her private only after politely asking her if it is possible for them to spend some time together. And only if the girl agreed on it, they would spend that time together.

Now, members don’t care for the girls, look at them as they’d look at hookers, prostitutes or whores and as they go private sometimes for some 0.99$/minute, they ask for the girls to get completely naked in a few seconds (no time to waste!) and do all the action they can do. We put the blame for this phenomenon to the girls from those un-wealthy countries from Eastern Europe that don’t think much, can’t talk much (sometimes you’d think they’re set to say “mmmm, im horny bb, get me” or “pvt bb, im horny bb” or “play with me bb” or “for more go pvt” etc) and only wanna make the big bucks.

And they can’t understand that because they went so low as for accepting to get payed some 25 cents per minute, now the whole market went crazy and those who could really do something and be good at this job, well, those have the most to lose because they have to get payed just as low and disrespect themselves just because others done it before them and now it’s either that they play as the “song” asks them to, either they lose it all.

The private time should’ve remained just as caviar – only a few models accepted that should’ve known a perfect english and at least one more international language and that know how to respect themselves, treat themselves like true ladies and accept only patient sweet members around.

So this is why you work everyhour that God sends, now you know.

Some of Britain’s most dangerous suspected terrorists have received more than £600,000 of taxpayers’ money to pay for their living costs while they have been under surveillance by the security services.

Twenty four suspects placed on control orders have on average received £25,000 each to spend on accommodation, council tax, utility bills and telephone costs, including phone cards, according to official figures.

Since April 2007, the Home Office has spent £611,470 on “living costs” for people put under effective house arrest on the advice of MI5. In addition, the Government is also paying some of the suspects undisclosed sums in benefits.

There are currently 13 suspected terrorists under control orders. Their movements and actions are restricted because the security services believe that they pose a threat to public safety.

They cannot be kept in prison because judges have ruled it would breach their human rights. However, they cannot be put on trial because the security services believe the information that would be used to prosecute them is too sensitive to disclose in court. Instead they are ordered to stay at home, under regular supervision.

Because it is impractical for them to find work, the taxpayer has to pick up the bill for some living costs.

One suspect received more than £9,000 in a single year, consisting of £7,744 towards his accommodation, £891 for utilities, £429 for council tax and £88 towards phone line rental.

The figures — published last week in Parliament — were uncovered by the Conservatives, who said that they strengthened the case for scrapping control orders and putting suspects on trial.

The control order regime has been frequently criticised, and Baroness Neville-Jones, the Conservative shadow homeland security secretary said that the costs associated with the orders were another reason to abolish them. She said: “Control orders deny due process to the defendant, do not provide a reliable remedy to the security problem posed by terrorist suspects, and on top of all that cost hundreds of thousands of pounds.

“A Conservative government would review the morally objectionable and costly control order regime with a view . . . to replacing it by the trial of suspects through the normal court system,” she added.

Patrick Mercer, the chairman of the Commons sub-committee on counter-terrorism, criticised the sums paid to the suspects. “It wouldn’t surprise me to learn we had been renting DVDs for them as well,” he said. Calling for a fundamental change in the treatment of terrorist suspects, he added: “The control order regime is not only impractical, it is also very expensive. We need measures to get these people into court – intercept evidence, plea bargaining, questioning after charge.

“That would allow us to divest ourselves of these detainees and the huge cost of detaining them.”More in the TELEGRAPH

My schedule is back on the night shift which happened to be an advantage for someone like me who performs well during sundown. Some of my co-workers find it real hard to work during the wee hours of morning. But it is a relief that they are not sleeping during the Paranormal Activity-prone time.

Divine’s funeral date was consistently being moved. First, it was because of money; her mother told us they couldn’t afford a private cemetery yet wouldn’t resort to a public one. They rescheduled the funeral which was later moved to another date because someone ‘with the funds’ offered legal assistance. Foul play and sexual abuse during Divine’s stay there in the hospital are being considered and as much as legal matters are concerned, an autopsy is needed.

Payout is nearing. More than excitement, I felt a bit sad when I realized that the numbers I will be receiving are obviously not enough to cover for the things needed to be bought and paid. This doesn’t, however, merit another I-regret-leaving-the-company blog entry. I might use this realization to fully move forward. Money is necessary and important. But certain things still remain more necessary and important than making money.

The Baguio plan has been laid down once more — Labs and I are planning to go North this December. It would be fun to drag some friends with us but might be difficult. We welcome pasalubong requests, of course.

Collecting 17 precious Starbucks stickers for the 2010 Planner is both engaging and entertaining, but not practical, though. To think that I can easily buy a would-do planner for as low as 200 pesos without having to collect stickers is by all means enticing. Call it stupidity but I call it exerting effort, and challenge.
