So I finally broke and got the game.  Been waiting a year for it since it came out, because like a lot of game developers lately, Bethesday plans to milk more from the game via DLC.
I have always thought that DLC is a very ineffective idea.

1. It gives the developers an excuse not to maximally implement features in a game before release.
2. For single-player games, players are essentially ripped off by paying full price for an ‘incomplete’ game. i.e. like for this game, assuming a player buys it on release day last year for $50, and $20 for each DLC, he would have paid $50 + 5*$20 = $150 for the entire collection.
3. For multiplayer games, depending on the type of DLC, isolate players between those who own them, and those who don’t.

There’s nothing wrong in wanting to maximize profits, but as a consumer, I just don’t like the idea. So now that all of the planned DLCs for this game has been released and crammed into this one version, I think that the $45.55 is finally justified. Remember kids, each time you pirate a game, a kitten dies. You wouldn’t want that now, would you? :3

Along with the game, I also ordered the Collector’s Edition of the guide for it. Yes, I am a sucker for hardcore books and feeling special for owning a numbered game guide. But I’m expecting the game to be huge like Oblivion though, and it would be a huge pain to Alt+Tab between windows to read from GameFAQs.com all the time.

This is another gamemode for garrysmod, one involving the Ultimate Chimera and pigmasks from Mother 3. As a pigmask, there’s a simple goal, find the Chimera, and press the button on it’s back. Shift can be used to dash, but only once, and it takes a while to recharge. To press the button on the chimera, you just have to click on it’s back from behind. This isn’t as simple as it sounds, though, since the chimera has a bite attack that instantly kills you, along with a roar that will render you unable to attack from fear. As the chimera, you gain those abilites, and can run with shift like normal. If you didn’t guess, the goal as chimera is to destroy all the pigmasks.

I originally played this with some guys from the TF2 mappers group, and that was incredibly fun. It was just normal play at first, but for the most part it was us screwing around. Here’s a video!:

There is no download available right now for this game, but Quanta is another puzzle game based on bending various laws of physics.

As you can clearly see in the video, there are quite a few different triggers, buttons, hazards, and gravity-defying bullets. Over all, the concept is pretty cool, and I have a bit of faith in the developer to make this look nice, and develop some promising traps/detectors/emitters. Only thing I’m worried about is the level design, which I haven’t really seen much of. Unless he thinks up smart and original ways to use those traps/detectors/emitters, and tries to think past their obvious uses, the game could still end up boring. Take the gas for example: Sure, it works as floating particles you can move around by altering gravity, but after a single level of it, the player wouldn’t even have to think any more. As painfully obvious as it may sound, expanding on the idea is necessary in order to keep the game fresh. For example, there could be a light detector along with a swinging light, that, when activated, emits gas for as long as the light is shining on it’s detector. Once the light moves out of the way, which would be necessary to push the gas around, it would stop emitting. I’m not saying the developer doesn’t know to change his puzzles up, but it seems that kind of problem is one of the main reasons some puzzle games fail. Instead of expanding on the idea behind the puzzle itself, they just use the exact same trick you learned earlier, and add a spike pit in the middle.

Being a Mom, I don’t always like for kids to shove their heads into a video game, to simply “veg out”. It’s not all bad allowing your kids having a game system. If you don’t know much about the Nintendo DS, I’d like to take a minute and tell you about it.

Nintendo has been around for a good long time, I am in fact a game Mario Brothers addict lover. My kids introduced me to Game Boy Advance. Then to the Nintendo DS which is backwards compatible with games, meaning that we as parents can “recycle” in a sense, previous games. My daughter and I both have a Nintendo DS game system, and we use them to “chat” with one another from room to room. We love playing games together on it, and beating each others high scores. The weather outside can sometimes be outright frightful, and having a DS around is fun, and entertaining when kids can’t run out to play. I take care of my elderly Mother and even she has a Game Boy Advance of her own! My daughter and I keep our Nintendo DS on charge for when she has to see the Dr., or when we take my Mom to the Dr. It really helps to pass the time. I have also mentioned before that my family lives in a rural area, which is wonderful … however it also leaves for longer drives for shopping, and other errands. Again, the Nintendo DS goes many places with us, and it’s enjoyed by all of us of varying ages! If you don’t have one, or if your kids don’t have one give it a look over, it may come in handier than you think. Not all games are geared for kids, there are many games that are for cooking, puzzles, the list goes on and on!

Easy Way to Level Up.

Easy Way to Level Up. In Ostargar during the mission Tainted Blood you are asked to collect three vials of Darkspawn Blood and the Grey Warden Treaties. Collect the three Vials of Darkspawn Blood first before the Treaties and than return to the main camp where you will talk to Duncan. Choose the choice option “We have the blood, but not the scrolls.” On exiting the conversation you will collect experience for the mission and can contine to collect experience for this quest by continually talking to Duncan. Once you collect the Treaties you can no longer exploit Duncan for experience. This is an easy way to level up early if you need to.

Redistribute Attribute Points During Level Up

The following works with PC patch 1.01a.

During level up at the attribute screen first ADD points to the attribute you want to eventually take away from. Then press the “Reset” button. Now you can take away the number of points you added from that attribute and redistribute to a new attribute.

For example; lets say your character has 16 str and 16 dex when you level up. You want to take 3 dex away and add it to str. First add your 3 level up attribute points to dex bringing it to 19. Press the “Reset” button, which brings it down to 16. Now press the left arrow by dex 3 times to bring it down to 13. Now reassign all points to str.

If you want to reassign more than 3 points at a time, first add 3 to an attribute, press the reset button, add 3 three to the same attribute and repeat. Afterward when you press the left arrow by the attribute you’ll be able to subtract the total number of points you added.

Free class unlock

Go to a merchant that sell a book that unlocks a class. Save the game. Sell everything you must to get enough gold to buy the book. Buy it. The class will now be unlocked for all your characters. Load your save game. You will have the class unlocked along with everything you had in that saved state (same gold and gear you may have sold).

Are you missing a pointless pursuit to while away some of those precious hours that are left of your life? Do what I did last night and start playing King’s Bounty: The Legend. A very charming little (or rather, long) game that is similar to Heroes of Might and Magic but with more story and humour. The English translation may be a bit lacking, but it’s not too bad. And the game is definitely of the “just one more fight” variety.

And yes, I’m only playing this because the system requirements are sane, unlike those of Dragon Age: Origins which stutters like a Parkinson’s sufferer having an epileptic fit on my computer. Good ol’ turn-based strategy.
