So, I really like CheerNo. His stuff has always been bold and more daring than any other male fashions in Second Life. I respect what he’s done and look forward to his creations with a sense of wonder at what he’ll do next. His latest collection is cool…I have been trying to get a jacket to fit me properly for a while to no avail…that day will come, though! In the meantime, a new creative member of the CheerNo team has been lavishing his creations upon me. That person is Vitor Algoma. And so far, I’m uber impressed. There are only two of his items in this post, but I hope you agree they are stand-out creations, and pop over to CheerNo to check them out soon. More to come! ^_^

Random fact about me: I am very anti-PDA. I’m not a touchy-feely person in general, so when I date someone, we’re definitely not touchy-feely in public, and I would appreciate it if other people showed some of the same restraint. I’m not a total Nazi on this–I don’t think couples need to stand two feet away from each other at all times and never, ever touch–but just keep it classy and polite. For example:

1. Holding hands– cute and subtle.

2. A quick peck– less subtle, but still cute.

3. Making out in a public place– save it for the bedroom!

4. Groping in a public place– see # 3.

If you’re in love–or really, really in like–with someone, woohoo, good for you. I’m sure you’re extremely happy and you want the rest of the world to know it. But, here’s the thing: most of the rest of the world doesn’t give a sh*t and has absolutely no desire to see you and your significant other going at it like animals in the park, museum, movie theater, subway, restaurant, etc. If you can’t control yourselves long enough to wait to feel each other up and stick your tongues in each others’ mouths until you get behind closed doors, you have issues which you should quickly resolve, for the good of the general public. Especially for the good of those kids you’re likely scarring for life…..

(This Week’s Kind of a Big Deal ) _____________________________________________________ I had

(This Week’s Kind of a Big Deal )
_____________________________________________________

I had originally planned to write this morning’s blog about the joys of working on group projects in college. (And of course, by “joys,” I mean “dramatic soap opera, starring fully grown and even middle-aged adults who sling playground-level insults.”)

The idea for the post was inspired by the events of yesterday, when one of my beloved group members was, and I quote, “amazed that [I] could be so stupid.” But of course, plans change, as was the case with this article.

At 4:15 this morning, I was at QuikTrip getting gasoline on my way to the office. If you’re wondering why I was on my way to work at 4:15 a.m., it’s because I am, as my dad would say, “Busier than a one-legged man in a butt-kicking contest,” and I was trying to get a leg-up on my to-do list.

I was the only customer in the parking lot. Well, that’s what I thought; however, when I opened my car door and walked to the back for the customary pre-gasoline ritual, I noticed a white car directly behind me, parked in one of the employee parking spaces.

There were two people in the car — a male and a female. I’m not sure of their ages, but I think it was somewhere between “old enough to know better,” and “you should really be embarrassed right now.”

Is this what I have to do to avoid seeing this stuff?!

Trying not to eavesdrop, I focused on authorizing my debit card purchase and selecting the fuel type. Unfortunately, I have been gifted (or cursed, as the case may be) with amazing peripheral vision, which precluded me from avoiding the ghastly horror of two people having sex right there, in the tiny car, in the QuikTrip parking lot.

At this point, I should make you aware that I am, in general, a woefully awkward person. There are certain situations that I simply do not handle appropriately; this is even worse when I am nervous. I nearly tripped over the gas pump as I tried to flee from the scene and find sanctuary in Tulsa’s greatest asset: the QuikTrip coffee bar.

Never have I taken such meticulous, drawn-out great care in preparing a cup of coffee. I wanted to ensure that any intimate moments that might be taking place outside had concluded before I returned to my car.

But, in keeping with my personal theme of seeming to always encounter events in my life in the most awkward way possible, the two lovebirds were still at it — and now with fogged windows.

All I can say is, “Wow.” Two days ago I saw an ad campaign — for shoes — based on boobs, and now I’m seeing sex in a parking lot? What is happening in this country?! I feel like I’m taking crazy pills here!

Newsflash, ladies: I think it goes without saying that any guy whose idea of romance is sex in a public place (that is very well-lit, mind you), in the front seat of a car, is NOT the ticket to a lasting relationship. However, if life is a highway, and winding up on YouTube an inevitable destination, consider behavior like this to be the carpool lane.

I’m only 28 years old… maybe that’s ancient in college-student years, but in general, I’m not that old. I consider myself to be fairly liberal and enthusiasctically celebratory of individual rights. “To each, his or her own,” right?

But what about my rights? I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect NOT to be visually assaulted every time I turn around. I’m not even saying, “don’t have sex in your car.” What I am saying is, “If you’d like to have sex in your car, please drive to a location that is completely secluded, in order to protect the public from your shameless, grotesque display of (presumably) drunken coitus.”

Moreover, I don’t think that wildly inappropriate behavior is an expression of asserting yourself as a strong, independent woman, despite what current rhetoric seems to be conveying. (Don’t worry, I’m not sexist; I think it’s equally shameful for our male counterparts.)

Why do I feel like I’ve been catapulted into the stratosphere of “Back in My Day” -ness? If appreciating decency, and perhaps just a tiny pinch of modesty – for men and women – is wrong, I just don’t want to be right. If that qualifies me as “old-fashioned,” so be it.

You can say and do pretty much whatever you want in this country, which is part of what makes America awesome. But, I would like to propose this: while you’re at it, put some clothes on.

All those in favor?

… is the reason I’m addicted to freebies/lucky chairs. As a noob, I thought the monthly

… is the reason I’m addicted to freebies/lucky chairs. As a noob, I thought the monthly gifts from Reasonable Desires were to die for, and for the longest time, it was the only store pick I faithfully kept. But by far my biggest love was for Austie’s giant bank of lucky chairs. A few minutes spent there and my poor disheveled noob avatar was fully decked out!

Austie continues to give great gifts, so when I heard about her store hunt to celebrate reaching 3,000 members in the group, I hurried over. Hidden throughout the store are 10 gift boxes containing lingerie and two cute costumes. Look high and low, the decent sized red boxes are mostly in the open and are confined to the main store, and the two small wings of stores attached.

I’m also wearing a new free skin from SINdecade which I just love with this blonde group freebie hair from Ali & Ali. The babydoll is Seldom Blue/Eternity Bride’s new Dollarbie to celebrate their bridal release. If you haven’t been upstairs to their bridal salon yet, it’s definitely worth the trip. I got the same feeling wondering around there as I get in a real bridal salon, looking at all the gorgeous wedding dresses! The shoes are a gift from *ByKay* to celebrate their new shoe releases, but are only available for a short time, so run go get them if you want them. I made a valient effort to match the skin color with their included hud, and they didn’t look too bad until I changed the light to photograph them. The hud was easier to use than some, and allows you to save pre-presets.

Lastly, an outfit to showcase my newest release, my color change Wool Scarves. The olive one (not color change) is a dollarbie in the store, and the regular ones, with 5 textures each, are only 10L in the accessory department. With that outfit I’m also wearing these adorable wings from the Boom Lucky chair, majorly worth stalking! And this adorable “shirt” (looks like a cardigan to me) from Prelude finishes things off nicely!

I’m not a Twitter user, making me and the dog down the street the only non-Tweeters in existence. Listening to the ladies on The View talk about their Tweeting habits just kind of kills the whole draw for me. But if I was interested in reading vapid celebrity comments or broadcasting my thoughts (as few as they may be) and moment by moment experiences to the world, I would love this little TwitterPeek gadget.

There are a number of negative reviews on Amazon for this little guy, the main beef being that it’s a device only built to connect with Twitter (Peek also is the manufacturer of an email and texting Peek device) but to me that’s part of its beauty–the simplicity. It appears as though the manufacturer will be making software updates and upgrades fairly regularly, so I’m not sure what all the harsh criticism is all about.

TwitterPeek currently comes in two colors, charcoal and aqua, has a sexy .4″ profile, and full QWERTY keyboard. The device works on Peek’s own data network, there’s no need to locate a WiFi spot, and as long as the device is on and logged into your account it’s receiving new tweets and your tweets will show up instantaneously. Both of these points are what Peek is touting to be superior to similar Smartphone apps, as well as it being quite a bit cheaper than most data plans. I’m not sure how many of those app users would want to double dip and get this as well, but it seems like a pretty good alternative for us non-smartphoners (seriously, just me and the dog again!?). Bonus for it looking like a mini-Blackberry!

TwitterPeek is currently sold exclusively through Amazon with two different service packages– $99.95 for the device and 6 months of service, with service at $7.95 each month after or $199.95 for the device and lifetime service.

Persoonlijker

onderdeel van een netwerk

Fun

Interactiever

Spontaan

Korter (in duur)

To the point

Voor direct gebruik

Engaging users to contribute and share

Height: 5′6

Hair: Brunette

Method: Online Dating

Advancement: The kissy face smiley + the one sticking it’s tongue out

I set up some online dating site accounts before I even started this whole ordeal. I knew my wily charms would never be enough to actually nab a girl cold-turkey every single day for 100 in a row. Now I started simple put up a lil profile, a couple cute pictures that showed the range of my personality.

Let me tell you something about online dating sites. They are leper colonies. There are a reason the majority of these girls have to go online looking for love. This is both a blessing and a curse. I figure if I’m ever really in a pinch…I could land some of these girls no problem. Would I rather go out with a girl I can’t stand to look at our stay at home doing nothing…(or at the very least myself). It also makes me question the attractive girls on the site. Okay, I could understand moving to a new city and not knowing anybody, and resorting to this, but the attractive girls who have trouble landing men, that worries me. It’s a giant red flag. At least with the ugly girls you can pretty much guess why they can’t nab a man.

So I met this lass a week (that I would say was a solid 7). With a “wink” and some pretty standard messaging that I sent to any girl that seemed remotely sane, got a response back. I logged some chat time with her. We went out for a drink at one of my favorite dive bars…which have some killer drink specials on Sunday. Also, this isn’t the kind of bar where a lot of people would be watching the football games, so it was a pretty chill little date. We talked about music mostly, as well as our respective jobs. She kept complimenting me on my bar choice, telling me she was going to “steal” my bar with her and her preppy-ish friends and the next time I went in, it would be overrun.

After a few hours of nice talking we walked down to the subway. Now, people rushing by and a faint hint of urine aren’t exactly my idea of a good blend for a first kiss. I straight up even said, “I really hate having a first kiss here”, before I laid one on her. There was a little bit of in the corner making out, and I hate myself a little for the PDA.

Verizon has finally gotten what could a be a viable iPhone replacement. A phone running the latest

Verizon has finally gotten what could a be a viable iPhone replacement. A phone running the latest version of Google’s Andorid OS and a growing supply of applitions.

I haven’t got my hands on one yet, but I’ve read a few reviews that state it stands up quite well in head to head comparisons with the iPhone. The biggest complaint I’ve heard is that the iPhone has a much deeper pool of applications available. Not suprising, but I expect the number of Android apps to grow quickly.

Verizon is also pushing its much wider 3G coverage heavily, but it’s still not a GSM network. That topic has been discussed here, and I’m sure it will again, but I’m still a fan of GSM networks. It is my opinion that Verizon is going to have to bite that bullet sooner or later.

The Droid phone and its OS have another advantage, open source. The iPhone is locked down tight by Apple. It controls your apps, what they can do, and how much data you can transfer over the cell phone network. An Android based phone, with a SIM slot, is much more flexible.

I’m sure that you have heard all the buzz on social networking, social media and/or social mar

I’m sure that you have heard all the buzz on social networking, social media and/or social marketing. Rest assured that it is a big deal. This is not all hype. Social media allows us immediate interaction online, which makes it much more immediately effective and impactful because things do change over time.

For those of you that keep hearing how Twitter is losing visitor traffic to the website and therefore it isn’t important, don’t listen to the naysayers. That is a bunk statistic because what powers all those Tweets are third party applications and texting from smartphones or PDA devices. Only recently has Twitter updated the user home page with web 2.0 scripting which allows them to update the user with new Tweet alerts, so no one was really accessing Twitter webpages too much in the first place. Most people are using it from desktop applications on their PC, notebook or netbook, on their smart phone or PDA, and they are using it from all over as they live their day, not just from home.

I can even attest that I have increased sales through Twitter by trying to be helpful, a good resource, and plugging my websites a bit without being spammy. If you need help with it, just tweet me as @Domainating, or through one of my branded domain names for sale posting account brand names of either @DomainNameGamer or @PremiumBrand. I am also online there with other accounts, but you might think I am spamming the group if I listed them all (and some of you probably think I am already being too spammy, but I am also trying to elaborate on my point that if you have multiple brands to protect, you should do so).

When “tweeting” on Twitter, remember that you are limited to 140 characters. All the people (tweople) who follow you will be able to see your tweets (your posts). It is much like social blogging in 140 character increments. Anyone searching for posts that use certain keywords can actually see your posts as well. And you can use this to your advantage by searching for customers looking for recommendations, as well.

Some Simple Tweeting Tips:

Your tweets (posts) can also be seen by even more people when they are retweeted.

As an example, let’s say I saw this tweet from JoeTrippi:

JoeTrippi Google to improve upon HTTP protocol? Tests show it could speed up page loads by more than 50% http://bit.ly/u6mt9

So maybe I think the Web Design and Development group (WDaDg) members and followers should know this, so I “retweet it” by copying Joe Trippi’s whole post.

Then I start the next post I make with “RT @” – RT means ReTweet, and the @ (at-sign) in front of a username functions as a mention so that they get credit and anyone seeing the retweet can check them out by clicking on the username (and possibly add them as a resource to follow). so now it looks like this:

RT @JoeTrippi Google to improve upon HTTP protocol? Tests show it could speed up page loads by more than 50% http://bit.ly/u6mt9

…now, everyone following me will see that, as well. So if you have something significant or valuable to say and do it consistently, you might be followed as a good resource by those who are searching related keywords in posts to follow.

When you mention other tweople’s usernames using the @ mark, they will see it in a special mentions area. However, others may not see it if it is the @ sign is the first character of the post. If you want others to see something, you just have to make sure that another character (other than a space) precedes the @. Lots of tweople use a simple dot so that a reply to someone by mentioning them in the post where they want others to see might look like:

.@Domainating Thanks for the tip.

If you don’t use the dot or other character to precede the @, others still may be able to see it, so not using the dot or other preceding character does NOT make it a private message. For instance, it still can be seen in your quick quip next to your picture on any of your follower’s (people following you) following page (the list of people they are following, which is accessible from their profile page) as the last post you made when listed there (there are usually multiple pages, you would only be listed on one of them).

If you want to send a message directly to another person (tweep) privately that only they will see, you can send them a Direct message by using a “D”:

D Domainating, you are ugly and your mom wears army boots!

…only I would see that post (or anyone looking over my shoulder when I was accessing it).

The catch is that you can only D (Direct message) your friends. That means that in order to D the username you want to, you have to be following him/her/it AND they have to be following you (which is considered a mutual friendship). Perhaps this is why they made @ kind of private if there are no characters in front of it and the username in a message?

The “#” (aka the number sign, the American pound sign of weight, or at Twitter it is most often called the hash tag) mark helps categorize posts and trends that people can access as a keyword or category, so that people can browse tagged messages according to subject. So I might post…

ICANN accredidation means nothing because all registrars have to follow ICANN rules, and ICANN does not police registrars. #domain #domains

So now this post has been categorized using the hashmark so that other people looking for posts using the domains and domain keywords can easily find them. They also speak to the trends of subjects in the social network.

Note that you will find tweople looking for recommendations on a web designer, a CMS, a domain registrar, a smartphone, a wireless service, an antiviri & security suite software package, and more, and Twitter can put you immediately in touch with these people. Now THAT’s real time (social) marketing.

Twitter can be quite useful. And you will find that as you establish relationships and have engaging conversations, you will reap the most benefits.

Twitter Tools and Utilities:

There are also several directories that specialize in listing tweople. The most popular is wefollow and by listing yourself there you can gain a following of others interested in the same subjects.

Klout (http://) is a Twitter analysation tool that you may be interested in.

TweetStats n. an app to graph your Twitter stats (or anyone else’s, incase you want to check them out before you follow them if you are worried). The graphs are nice, but I like to see the most used words and hash tags.

As noted above, I use a Twitter client (third party software) to monitor my Tweets. My favorite is an Adobe Air application, @TweetDeck:

TweetDeck “TweetDeck is your personal browser for staying in touch with what’s happening now, connecting you with your contacts across Twitter, Facebook and more. TweetDeck shows you everything you want to see at once, so you can stay organised and up to date.” …from the homepage itself.

…hope that helps you get started (if you aren’t already)!

Thanks for reading!

I had the privilege of being one of the docs who chatted with Sam Soloman about the most useful smartphone medical apps available. Check out the Parkhurst Exchange’s Practice Management article, that’s little snippet makes me sound so much smarter and more concise than I really am!

My iPhone sits in my scrub pocket or in a leather holster on my belt every day. I rely on it for the usual phone and message features, to handle quick e-mails, and listen to music on a daily basis. If I’m at work, ePocrates, Skyscape’s Taber’s Dictionary and the thankfully free MedCalc seem to see regular action. UpToDate is fortunately built into our hospital’s EMRs so I don’t tend to access it via my smartphone’s small-compared-to-a-desktop’s screen. I use a few other apps when I have more time to dig deep. Skyscape’s RxDrugs has a lot more Canadian and over-the-counter medications in its catalogue; Netter’s Atlas helps when straining to remember long forgotten things like muscular insertion points; and Diagnosaurus helps broaden my differential when I feel like I’ve wandered down the garden path.

PDAs are changing the way we practice. Yesterday, we wrote an “open book” pharmacology/prescribing exam, where the test was about choosing appropriate medications and writing clear prescriptions. If we pass this and other measures, we are then recommended to the College as sound prescribers and will be issued the appropriate registration numbers and duplicate (narcotics) prescription pads.

The object of the exam was not to test our recall of doses or to probe the bounds of our prescribing accurately for rare disorders. Rather, it was a test to see that we could come up with a reasonable drug choice given the patient’s context, using the resources regularly available to us. The questions got at things like: What anti-hypertensive medication would you start first-line for a diabetic patient? What would you do if they were still hypertensive after weeks on that drug? What might be a better choice for someone managing their chronic pain with hundreds of T#3s a month?

We were told to bring our PDAs, since those (and the CPS!) are our main prescriber tools. I think the nature of the questions – testing application and synthesis of knowledge rather than rote memory – and the allowance of our Smartphones was a reflection on the fact that medicine has changed. I don’t know about endorsing one brand of software over another, but some medical schools are even integrating smartphones into their education model.

We are trained to be critical thinkers, and there’s too much medicine to remember; offloading some of the raw data from our brains, there’s now more space to think carefully about why we do what we do, and about how it should be done.
