The other day I had a problem getting Lacey to eat her food and though others may say it could be table food I doubt that it has anything to do with the fact of refusing to eat her dry food.My honest thought was she was getting tired of the same thing over and over again.I gave her some of Halo’s Salmon canned food and after she got used to it she ate it.She even ate the Earthborn this morning!One owner advised that Halo’s meat content is very low due to most of the water is taken out of the chicken before it is extruded so really Halo is mostly made of pea protein and grains which could be the reason it’s mostly sold at Whole Foods.Right now I will let her stay on Halo’s for the time being but it sounds like she needs more meat content than what Halo offers & she needs more variety of canned food and dry food.So I will be doing more searching and ordering samples to see what we can find for her.However she’s not going back to the cheap stuff like Science Diet,Alpo,Pedigree etc.I am defiantly not open to that.

John Sparkman has written another excellent piece on Native Dancer (read it here) that comments on the great gray’s conformation and on his influence over contemporary pedigrees.

The sire of two colts who finished first in the Kentucky Derby (1968 winner Dancer’s Image was disqualified for the presence of bute in his system), Native Dancer sent important sons around the globe. Among them were Dan Cupid (out of Vixenette, by Sickle), who ran second in the French Derby and sired English Derby and Arc de Triomphe winner Sea-Bird, and Atan (out of Mixed Marriage, by Tudor Minstrel), who won his only start and sired the important international sire Sharpen Up.

The Sharpen Up hocks that were considered something of a blemish on that stallion’s progeny were also typical of many from this line. Raise a Native, who was a grand-looking horse, had hocks far behind him as a young horse.

Although having hocks parked out behind a horse is frequently considered a fault, it doesn’t prevent horses from racing effectively, and it is one of the traits most commonly associated with horses that have exceptional power. To use their extra leverage to full potential, such horses must have great strength through their backs and hindquarters, and those that are properly fitted for this can often do their best work on turf, which provides a better grip for pushing, than on dirt, which slips away more easily … except when it’s wet.

For an academically challenged canine like me, the cloistered life of books isn’t befitted.  The other day, Calvy was too busy to play frisbee with me, browsing through his MBA course ware with eyes darted at the page at one instant and on the window at the other; waywardly his retina navigated behind his spectacles…so much for enacting intelligence:)

Dog grins are hard to enshroud, you’d know if you were a dog. Anyway, when he caught me mocking him, he  nuzzled in a couch and put off his ‘intelligent glasses’ on the table. With an air of wizardly wand movement he asked me,”Well, what do you think of advertisements? “

“Ahem! Well…It’s promotion of some product or service”,  I said.

“…and usually paid for”, he added.

Now that his ego was satisfied, he was back to his notes and devoid of  his playtime,  the professor in me delved in the  pensive cocoon and recollected some of the most cherished commercials I had ever been subjected to. Naturally,all of them had one thing in common…dogs:)

So here’s presenting the succeeding entry in the Dogged reviews…the TV Commercials!

Well, there is no dearth of talent and wits when it comes to copywriters having dogs in their artwork, yet for the sake of succinctness in the post, I’ve taken the liberty of choosing four. However in the coming posts I’d again reiterate on the idea.

So, here’s presenting the TVC with pups in a starring role…

First we have the amazing campaign by dog food makers Pedigree wherein they embark on a pledge to help a shelter dog get adopted each time their product is bought and they sign off with ‘Dogs Rule’ . Though all the commercials under this campaign were high on emotion yet here are the dog’s pick…

…they say that hope and a little prayer never get unanswered so was true for Echo,here he gets adopted:)

Closer home, in India, the suiting majors Raymonds showed with their commercial that the complete man sports a softer side too.

The Mobile service providers Hutch(now known as Vodafone) build their brand in India riding on the back of a pug. The amazingly cute and unforgettable campaign had many of the master pieces yet the following commercial and the accompanying soundtrack is awesome!

Coming to terms with my momentary lewd conscience, I can’t help but leave you with something to feel light about after the emotional drive.

What? The aforementioned four TVC are already done with, well…I lied…here’s the fourth:)

Depois de ver tantos abrigos, eu concretizei em meus sonhos um modelo ideal de como seria o meu, se tivesse condições para tal feito. Não pensei em abrigo, pensei em algo muito melhor.

Fui visitar o Pedigree Center e me deparei com a concretização do meu sonho. Tudo o que sonhei, esse lugar é, ou melhor ainda, ele é mais do que sonhei. Não é um abrigo, não é um canil, é um “playcenter” dos cães, um lugar mágico, um lugar que fascina, inspira, emociona e encanta.

Depois de ver várias atrocidades cometidas aos animais e viver todos os dias, de Domingo a Domingo tentando ajuda para um aqui, outro ali… em uma luta sem fim, em uma luta árdua, não podia imaginar que existisse um lugar como o que presenciei. Foi um dos melhores presentes que ganhei nesses anos de Proteção Animal.

A recepção no qual fomos recebidas, eu e minha amiga Flor, foi excepcional. A veterinária Christina nos explicou como surgiu o projeto e cada detalhe do mesmo. E ela notou que a minha ansiedade era tamanha para ver os cães.

Deparamos-nos primeiro com Beagles, com todas as suas energias, em um lugar imenso com grama cortadinha, um lugar lindo, onde para se refrescarem, eles tinham duas piscinas pequeninas. É claro que não me contive e quis entrar no lugar. A alegria deles contagia, é uma alegria dificilmente vista em vários cães.

Depois conheci cada lugar: o depósito onde são guardadas todas as rações. A sala para atendimento veterinário, raramente usada porque os cães têm muita saúde; a sala é usada somente para vacina, vermifugação, limpeza de ouvido, ou algo mais simples. A cozinha onde são preparadas as refeições – duas vezes ao dia – conforme o peso e idade do cão. A lavanderia onde as caminhas, toalhas e roupinhas são lavadas com produtos que se usam em hospitais para total higienização. E o banho e tosa, que possui duas esteiras, uma para a subida e outra para a descida do cãozinho, para que o mesmo leve o banho como uma brincadeira; eles podem brincar com bolinhas quando estiverem tomando banho e cada um deles possui escovas de dente, penduradas na parede com a foto e o nome de cada um. Tem a ala da quarentena, aonde muito raramente um cão vai para lá.

Em seguida, fomos ao lugar onde ficam as baias dos cães e um lugar imenso ao centro, de piso hospitalar para melhor higiene onde eles brincam. São cães de todas as raças, idades e tamanhos, todos muito felizes, muito brincalhões, muito alegres, muito TUDO DE BOM. Todos castrados, convivem muito bem entre si, em meio a diversos brinquedos, são dignos de uma alegria jamais vista. Nesse local, há música ambiente.

Esses cães são adotados ainda quando bebês e ficam até os sete anos no Pedigree Center.. Eles são “degustadores”, ou seja, tudo é analisado para que o produto seja ou não inserido no mercado. E eles amam o que fazem. Cada cão tem o seu padrinho, que pode ir ao local quando quiser para levar brinquedos, fazer agrados… Após esses sete anos, eles são doados aos padrinhos ou quem queira adotá-los. A Christina nos disse que eles sabem exatamente quem são os seus padrinhos ou futuros “donos”, a alegria deles é tamanha quando se encontram.

Os cães passeiam por trilhas, nadam, brincam muitoooo e são muito felizes. Tem cães de diversas personalidades: o mais tímido; o mais medroso; o mais brincalhão; o mais desconfiado; o mais sem-vergonha como um West Highland Terrier, o danado Brad que simplesmente levantou a perninha e fez um grande e belo xixi nas minhas costas. Afinal, o território era dele e não meu.

Obrigada Cynthia, super simpática, amável, uma das melhores pessoas que já conheci. Obrigada Christina e Gisele pela paciência de vocês, educação, explicação. Obrigada por terem me proporcionado esse grande presente!

Afinal, tudo que é para o bem se concretiza e quaisquer sonhos são possíveis de serem realizados porque sonhos não se bastam somente como sonhos, eles precisam ser reais.

OBS.: Infelizmente, as visitas não são permitidas para que os animais não fiquem constantemente alvoroçados. Esse foi um caso em especial.
