On a recent Glenn Beck Show, he had a graph that illustrated the percentage of each past president’s cabinet who had worked in the private business sector prior to their appointment to the cabinet.

You know what the private business sector is… a real life business, not a government job.

Here are the percentages discussed by Mr. Beck.

T. Roosevelt…….. 38% Taft………………….40% Wilson…………….. 52% Harding…………….49% Coolidge………….. 48% Hoover…………….. 42% F. Roosevelt……… 50% Truman……………..50% Eisenhower………. 57% Kennedy………….. 30% Johnson…………….47% Nixon………………. 53% Ford………………… 42% Carter………………. 32% Reagan……………..56% GH Bush………….. 51% Clinton…………….. 39% GW Bush…………. 55%

And the winner of the Chicken Dinner is………….. Obama……………. 8% !!!

Yep! Thats right! Only Eight Percent!!!..the least by far of the last 19 presidents!!

And these people are trying to tell our big corporations how to run their business? They know what’s best for GM…Chrysler… Wall Street… and you and me?

How can the president of a major nation and society…the one with the most successful economic system in world history… stand and talk about business when he’s never worked for one?.. or about private sector jobs when he has never really had one??!

And neither has 92% of his senior staff and closest advisers.! They’ve spent most of their time in academia, government and/or non-profit jobs….or as “community organizers” ..when they should have been in an employment line.

GOD HELP US!!

Worth repeating. Thanks Glenn!!

By: Bob Grafe, Columnist

© Seguin, TX - There are wars and rumors of wars around the globe these days. Most of them I personally don’t fully understand and I certainly have very little impact on their outcomes.

However, there is a little “unspoken” war going on that a few local senior citizens have been quietly fighting—the war to save our country’s economy.

The verbal battles over which way the country’s economy should spin are being waged within the secluded and protective walls of government—but the real front-line warfare is taking place right at our local doorsteps.

While a few local seniors keep up the good economic fight—continuing to keep their private sector businesses operating, making payrolls, supporting community events, paying their business taxes—many other seniors this time of year go through the annual ritual of making new year’s resolutions. Frequently, those resolutions are about speeding up their “retirement” date.

They may be bored with their life’s work, mad at their boss, or maybe just impatient about “doing” all those things that they’ve always wanted to do—but can’t because they “think” their daily work interferes with their “preferred” schedule.

Some foster the notion that “early” retirement is right for them … and they pull the employment plug early and head off into their anticipated retirement bliss. Two months later they wake up and recall the advice given to them but not followed that someone provided years earlier saying, “Before you retire, stay home from work for one week and watch daytime television.”

Even current dictionaries are largely in agreement that the meaning of “retirement” as a noun in part means “The age at which one normally retires.” and “The state of being retired.” But, dictionaries also continue with their secondary (and often more stark) meanings such as “Withdrawal from one’s position or occupation or from active working life.” and “A place of seclusion or privacy.”

The Conference Board research group has been studying employment and retirement issues for the past 22 years. In a new survey, just released, they found that only 45 percent of workers are happy with their jobs—down from 61 percent of workers who reported being content with their employment in 1987.

Linda Barrington, Managing Director of Human Capital at the Conference Board noted in the study document that “It is two-way responsibility. Workers also have to figure out what they should be doing to be the most engaged in their jobs and the most productive.” Otherwise, the business will probably not be successful.

For many years now, three local gentlemen (all senior citizens) have been waging serious battles to keep their small businesses operating.

Joe Tocquigny of The Green Gate Nursery, Alfred Kolbe of Kolbe Flower Shop and George Ammermann of Right Way Lawn Service collectively have 230 years on Planet Earth—an average of 77 years.

Would it have made any sense to conclude that at age 65 these three businessmen should have acquired sufficient experience to effectively lose their jobs? That is what our country’s retirement “model” contends. Even earlier retirement for some models where the thought is that the “old” must make room for the next generation.

Keep in mind that none of these locals were operating their present businesses as they approached mid-life—a point at which so-called “retirement” was within view and reach.

All of them voluntarily took on the responsibility of providing goods and services to our community through the daily operations of their small businesses knowing that they would probably have to forego viewing Oprah on television in the afternoon, long European vacations, and even golf each day at 9 a.m.

Today, each of these private sector business warriors plans their business offense and defense strategies, engages the enemy (a sluggish economy) with precision strikes, defends and protects their business staff and local community homeland by “smart” decision-making, and by getting up every morning with all the aches and pains that the rest of us senior citizens endure—and mostly without making comment or complaint.

The private sector really is the life-blood of our local community. Without our local business men and women risking their own economic futures every time they switch on the “Open” for business sign, there would be little tax revenue gathered and paid for the benefit of those who provide the sometimes “needed” government services.

Tocquigny, Kolbe and Ammermann are truly local senior citizen “heroes” fighting each day to keep our economy thriving. As with our men and women serving in our military, please offer a tip of the hat and a sincere “Thank you.” for their service the next time you encounter one of these patriotic local businessmen.

All three of these business giants remind me in some ways of George Burns who remarked on his blessing of being in show business all of his long life, “Retire? I’m going to stay in show business until I’m the only one left!”

By JAN M. OLSEN, Associated Press Writer Jan M. Olsen, Associated Press Writer

© COPENHAGEN – An ax-wielding Somali man with suspected al-Qaida links was charged Saturday with two counts of attempted murder after breaking into the home of a Danish artist whose Prophet Muhammad cartoon outraged the Muslim world three years ago.

The suspect, who was shot twice by a police officer responding to the scene, was rolled into a Danish court on a stretcher, his face covered. He was ordered held for four weeks on preliminary charges of attempting to murder the cartoonist, as well as the police officer who shot him.

Efforts to protect the artist — 74-year-old Kurt Westergaard — were immediately stepped up, as he was moved to an undisclosed location.

The suspect, described by authorities as a 28-year-old Somali with ties to al-Qaida, allegedly broke into the house late Friday armed with an ax and a knife. The house is in Aarhus, Denmark’s second largest city, 125 miles (200 kilometers) northwest of Copenhagen.

Jakob Scharf, head of Denmark’s PET intelligence agency, said Saturday the man might have attacked spontaneously.

“It seems that he acted alone, and maybe it was a sudden decision,” Scharf told Danish broadcaster TV2. He was not immediately available for further comment.

Westergaard, who has been the target of several death threats since depicting the Prophet Muhammad with a bomb-shaped turban, has been under round-the-clock protection by Danish police since February 2008.

When he heard someone trying to break into his home, he pressed an alarm and fled to a specially made safe room. His five-year-old granddaughter who was on a sleep-over, sat on a sofa and saw the suspect trying vainly to get into the bathroom-turned-shelter.

Officers arrived two minutes later and tried to arrest the assailant. He threatened the officers with the ax, and one officer then shot him in the hand and knee, Preben Nielsen of the Aarhus police said.

Nielsen said the man’s wounds were serious but not life-threatening.

Westergaard could not be reached for comment, but he told his employer — the Jyllands-Posten newspaper — that the assailant shouted “Revenge!” and “Blood!” as he tried to enter the bathroom where Westergaard had sought shelter.

“It was scary. It was close — really close,” he said, according to the newspaper’s Web site.

The Somali man, whose name cannot be released because of a court order, was accompanied by a lawyer. He arrived at the court in Aarhus from the hospital where he is being treated, and denied the charges.

“He will be in custody for four weeks, and in isolation for two (of those),” said Chief Superintendent Ole Madsen in Aarhus. He said the suspect would be moved to a prison in Aarhus, which has medical facilities.

Defense lawyer Niels Christian Strauss told reporters outside the court he had urged his client to remain silent to allow more time to examine the evidence.

Danish Prime Minister Lars Loekke Rasmussen called the attack “despicable.”

“This is not only an attack on Kurt Westergaard but also an attack on our open society and our democracy,” he said in a statement.

In 2005, Jyllands-Posten had asked Danish cartoonists to draw Muhammad as a challenge to a perceived self-censorship. Westergaard and 11 other artists did so. Danish and other Western embassies in several Muslim countries were torched in early 2006 by angry protesters who felt the cartoons had profoundly insulted Islam.

Islamic law generally opposes any depiction of the prophet, even favorable, for fear it could lead to idolatry.

Westergaard remains a potential target for extremists nearly five years later: His cartoon is viewed as the most provocative, and he is the only of the twelve cartoonists to live under round-the-clock protection.

Authorities declined comment on whether security for other cartoonists had been tightened.

The Somali man had won an asylum case and received a residency permit to stay in Denmark, Scharf said. He called the Friday attack terror-related.

“The arrested man has, according to PET’s information, close relations to the Somali terrorist group al-Shabab and al-Qaida leaders in eastern Africa,” Scharf said. “(The attack) again confirms the terror threat that is directed at Denmark and against the cartoonist Kurt Westergaard in particular.”

Scharf said the man is suspected of having been involved in terror-related activities in east Africa and had been under PET’s surveillance, but not in connection with Westergaard.

In Somalia, Sheikh Ali Mohamud Rage, a spokesman for the Somali group al-Shabab, denied the man was member of the group, but supported his alleged attack on the cartoonist.

“We welcome the brave action he did,” Rage said. “It was a good and brave step taken by that Somali man against the criminal cartoonist — we liked it.”

He described Westergaard as “the devil who abused our Prophet Muhammad” and called on “all Somalis in Denmark and around the world to target him and the people like him, too.”

Westergaard has received previous death threats and was the subject of an alleged assassination plot.

In October, terrorism charges were brought against two Chicago men who allegedly planned to kill him and newspaper’s former cultural editor. That trial has not yet begun.

In 2008, Danish police arrested two Tunisian men suspected of plotting to kill Westergaard. Police failed to substantiate the charges and neither suspect was prosecuted. One was deported and the other was released Monday after an immigration board rejected PET’s efforts to expel him from Denmark.

Throughout the crisis three years ago, then-Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen distanced himself from the cartoons but resisted calls to apologize for them, citing freedom of speech and saying his government could not be held responsible for the actions of Denmark’s press.

An umbrella organization for moderate Muslims in Denmark condemned the Friday attack.

“The Danish Muslim Union strongly distances itself from the attack and any kind of extremism that leads to such acts,” the group said in a statement.

————

Associated Press reporter Mohamed Olad Hassan in Mogadishu, Somalia contributed to this report.

Survivaltimes Editorial Note: Could it be any clearer who the terrorist enemy is throughout the world? There is no need to “profile” terror suspects any longer. They resemble their “mark” and their actions speak those directed by the anti-Christs of today’s world. We no longer need to defend against this enemy … we need to engage and destroy it wherever it is found! Check out this link (http://images.google.com/images?sourceid=navclient&rlz=1T4GGLL_enUS321US321&q=danish+muhammad+cartoons&um=1&ie=UTF-8&ei=nxJBS4PQEM6UtgePzPmSCQ&sa=X&oi=image_result_group&ct=title&resnum=2&ved=0CBgQsAQwAQ) to find Danish Muhammad Cartoons that may be controversial. You decide.

© FOX News is beginning to look both foolish and ignorant in the presentation of their breaking news ”facts” they purport to present. The leader of the “Pack of Foolishness” is barely intelligible teleprompter reader Uma Pemmaraju.

Her latest fiasco occurred during her recent so-called “interview” with Congressman Jason Chaffetz, R-UT who is a member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. Repeatedly, Pemmaraju would attempt to restate what the Congressman had just stated–frequently stating the exact opposite of what Chaffetz had said concerning the use of full-body screening machines as part of airport security.

After the third or fourth time Pemmaraju just “didn’t get it,” the interview reduced to a farce. Chaffetz kept his composure–even though he could have (fully within his rights) blasted Pemmaraju for her stupidity.

FOX News continues to use their favorite slogan of “Fair and Balanced” in their reporting. Perhaps while Pemmaraju is still around the various FOX News sets the slogan should be “Impaired and unbalanced.”

For the sake of journalism, Pemmaraju needs to be fired with cause and sent back to wherever she came from “off shore” to go back to answering technical computer questions via the telephone for some large corporation.

By Bob Grafe, Columnist

For Publication: December 24, 2009

© A couple of months ago, I wrote a column in which the question was asked “Where have all the newspaper boys gone?”

Shortly after the column appeared in newspaper print (and on the Internet), I received word that there was at least one remaining newspaper boy. This is his story – and a very special Christmas present for this columnist.

A few days ago I had the privilege of meeting this young newspaper man (the Editor-in-Chief of the AUTOmatic Times) and his colleague/sister. I had requested an interview with them and was granted one.

After hearty handshakes all around, I was presented with the following written (typed) “response” to my “newspaper boy” column:

“My family and I recently read an article entitled “Where have all the newspaper boys gone?” by Bob Grafe dated September 3, 2009. I absolutely loved this story. It was like actually being right there with you, Mr. Grafe, when you were ten years old. I could imagine being in the empty lot beside Ernie’s Barber Shop helping you find bottles.

It must have been like being on a great adventure going from house to house and knowing that so many people were looking out for you, keeping you safe while you did your work.

Although you did a lot of work, I think getting $25 must have been exciting for you. I also loved reading about the barber shop owner. You were a very smart business man for such a young age, and working out a trade for haircuts was very smart of you.

You ask the question about where have all the newspaper boys gone and I would like to answer that question for you this holiday season.

My name is Dawson and I am 11 years old. When I was just10 years old, I watched a movie called Kit Kittredge and was, at that time, inspired to create a newspaper entitled AUTOmatic Times. I share my newspaper with close family and friends online.

I use the local newspaper, TV, and Internet to help me with research articles. My Mom pays me a penny a word for all my articles. I do not charge anyone for my paper and I love when people want to read my paper. I learn a lot also by writing my paper.

The answer to your question is that there are still newspaper boys in the world, I am one. I also earn enough money with my once-a-month newspaper to hire my sister Shelby (age 9) who is a great reporter for me.

I wish that our world was safe enough to go on adventures in town like the ones you had … but in today’s world we kids have to be safe. We still read articles and share stories, but, again, we kids have to be safe.

Anyway, I wanted you to know that your story was so detailed that it was like watching a movie. You did a great job.

And, this holiday, I really wanted you to know that there are still newspaper boys and girls in this world!

Merry Christmas from Dawson and Shelby (Smith)

P.S. I just made $4.50 for this article and I am enclosing it for you. I want you to buy some donut holes this Christmas for yourself and know that it came from a newspaper boy.”

My reaction to receiving this very thoughtful Christmas present was mixed. I really wanted to profusely thank both Dawson and Shelby on the spot for their sincere kindness.

But, I was about to conduct an unbiased and in-depth interview with them. I must remain professional and at least a bit aloof, I thought to myself. After all, I could be interviewing future media moguls.

My hunch was confirmed when Dawson revealed that he was already Wall Street wise. “I lost $13 in the stock market.” he said when asked about his “business” interests.

Both Dawson and Shelby also mentioned that they were into “making movies.” When I looked questioningly at their parents sitting at the conference table with them, both nodded in the affirmative – with smiles.

Movie scripts are written, sets designed, characters developed and actual movie “shoots” completed and edited by this talented duo.

And, what about AUTOmatic Times. What was one of the more important stories covered by Dawson – this modern-day Internet equipped newspaper boy turned Editor-in-Chief.

“Well, I wrote a lot about trash.” Said Dawson. “You know. Littering.”

You might also find an article in a future edition about Dawson’s favorite car, the 2006 Ford Mustang or his favorite food – supreme-style pizza.

When asked how they come up with ideas for their newspaper they replied that they “play office” a lot to get the feel for what really goes on.

And raw politics isn’t off limits for AUTOmatic Times’ Editor-in-Chief who firmly mentioned that “Kids need the right to vote for president.” Staff writer Shelby demonstrated her editorial capabilities when she recommended that the world could be changed for the better if “toys were free.”

Dawson mentioned that education was important and commented that Benjamin Franklin might have had a college degree in “scientific imagining.”

When asked who they felt was the most important person in the world, they both paused and then said that they “didn’t know.”

But when asked who they might ask over for a special dinner party, their responses were without hesitation. “Miss Linda, Mr. Jet and Jasmine.” When asked why, they said they were “close friends and very caring.” And, “Mr. Jet lets us decorate his gate on holidays,” they said.

After our interview was completed, Dawson and Shelby were given a tour of a “really big” newspaper building and even had a chance to have their pictures taken standing next to a “huge” printing press.

As they departed the building through the front door, my editor and I just looked at each other with an unspoken reminder that as the seasons come and go through life it becomes ever so obvious that we need to hold onto “the good” when we experience it – and we just had.

May you all have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

By: Bob Grafe, Columnist

© Did you know that you only have 10,512,000 minutes left to live? That is correct if you are now a senior citizen age 65 and you expect to live to be age 85 – allowing for 20 more years of living.

Put another way, you have 7,300 more wake-up calls and a little more than 1,000 weeks to get all those things still remaining to do in your life … done!

Look at it this way: You have the same time available and remaining to complete an entirely new career – the same as does a man or woman just beginning a 20-year career in the military. And, you have the side benefit of no one actually shooting at you.

There’s still plenty of time to get done what you want to get done – but, you have to go about the task with a well thought-out plan in place.

  So, where do you begin?

Perhaps the first order of business is to inventory all of your personal time and financial expense commitments that now encumber your personal 24-hour day and your bank account.

The financial expense commitments portion of the inventory will probably be the easiest to complete. The personal time commitment portion is much more difficult because it is much more personal involving your emotional investment with many friends and relatives in your life.

As you review your personal time commitments be sure to ask yourself, for example, if you are committed to spending one weekend each month away from home with grandchildren, or a special civic organization’s project, or teaching special classes at your church, or with helping out with duties at your senior citizen center, or maybe committed to visiting dear friends and relatives in rest homes, or maybe working at a part-time job that you really enjoy, or maybe just spending a quality weekend at home with your spouse … or any number of other good things to do “one” weekend each month.

Well, something has to give because you run out of month before you run out of that special “one” weekend each month – it looks more like “every” weekend is taken up and then some.

A high level of personal time commitments for on-going activities that are not considered by you to be “very” important may interfere with your desire to complete your list of things that you want to get done – while there is still time to do so.

Once that current inventory of personal time commitments is completed, take a deep breath and prioritize the inventory list into three areas: Very Important; Less Important; and Not Important. Keep the list private for a few days while you ponder what you have written down. Then, review the list and make appropriate changes that you have thought about.

Now, with a blank piece of paper, using the same inventory list categories of Very Important; Less Important; and Not Important, write down those things in life that you really want to accomplish during this “next” 20-year career of yours that is just waiting to begin. Prioritize your list and then let those private ideas incubate for a couple of days before you make changes to your “final” prioritized list of things you want to accomplish.

Like it or not, the “other” list of financial commitments that you will have to complete during this life’s inventory process will help to bring into focus those important items that you want to get accomplished – and that you can actually afford.

For best results with your future list of accomplishments, be totally honest with yourself when you complete your financial commitments analysis. Don’t be tempted to over-state or under-state either projected expenses or income.

These simple steps will help to un-clutter your life allowing you a better picture of what you want to accomplish with your remaining years – what is truly important to you.

It will help the process along if you begin by placing all of the televisions in your house in the garage sale that you should have. Garage sales help to un-clutter your life. Or just drop all your “junk” off at a Goodwill Industries collection site. Remember, one person’s “junk” is another person’s “bargain.”

Be sure to get a receipt for your donation since you also have another 20 or so annual IRS tax return forms to complete between age 65 and 85. Maybe you’ll find some hidden tax right-offs among your treasures donated to Goodwill or other charitable organizations.

To help with the “financial” un-cluttering process, you might consider canceling those subscriptions to unread magazines, special “discount” membership offers for “seniors,” those “special” credit cards now infrequently used, and other commitments that may not provide you with the benefits once promised but seldom delivered – but still cost you that monthly or annual fee.

Likewise, it is probably a good time to continue with your personal time commitment inventory tweaking by evaluating your membership in various worthwhile organizations. Some community organizations may still offer you an opportunity to be of service within a specific area and some national organizations may continue to offer you an opportunity to contribute time or funds for good causes.

But, some have outlived your ability to contribute either financially or with your time and they may need to be dropped from your list of commitments.

Once your life is a little less cluttered, your personal time commitments and financial commitments inventory tasks are completed and well thought-out, your next 20-year career will be ready to tackle with gusto – perhaps just in time for the new year!

Bob Grafe, Columnist

© Thanksgiving Day is a good day to reflect back on all of the many blessings each one of us has received in this life — especially for those of us old enough to recall both the good and the bad times and are wise enough to recognize the difference.

I can recall back over half a century ago when the early-morning chill seemed to envelope the concrete basement classroom at my aging Lincoln Elementary School. It was there that my also aging school teacher, Miss Rumbleheart, ran her third-grade class with the disciplined style of a very disgruntled Army drill sergeant.

And even though Thanksgiving was the very next day, Miss Rumbleheart made it perfectly clear that she was there that school day for the sole purpose of teaching us the FOUR “R’s” … read’n, right’n, rithmatic’n and ruler’n.

If you didn’t perform to her standard with the first three R’s, her 18-inch wooden ruler “Whack” would quickly move you back on task.

Those were the days before school lawyer’n became popular and when long-reaching rulers helped make “no child left behind” a much easier goal to achieve.

I still remember that late fall school day when for the first time I got the inkling that Miss Rumbleheart might actually HAVE a heart.

It was mid-morning and the radiator next to the window across the room from my ink-well style desk had finally stopped crackling for awhile. I noticed that Miss Rumbleheart seemed a little more odd than usual that day.

Surprisingly, Whack the ruler hadn’t moved from her desk all morning — making all of us students very thankful as we prepared for a Thanksgiving school holiday.

“Let’s make a list on the blackboard.” She announced. “Tell me what you’re thankful for. It’s going to be Thanksgiving tomorrow, and you’d better be thankful for something!”

As she went around our third-grade classroom asking for input from each child, the blackboard quickly filled with such things as my mom and dad; new shoes; a new bike; cherry Coke; a new dress; my puppy “Buster;” a big radio; The Lone Ranger; grandma and grandpa; and the like.

When the blackboard was filled to capacity, Susan, the girl at the desk next to me raised her hand to ask a question. With a bit of annoyance in her voice, our teacher said to Susan, “Yes, what is it?”

Susan shyly asked “Miss Rumbleheart, what are you thankful for?”

With a silence in the classroom similar only to those times when Miss Rumbleheart was going to send someone to the principal’s office for doing something really bad, she sat down at her desk and seemed to be thinking without saying a word for the longest time.

  Then she began.

She told us about how she almost married many years ago, but “things” just didn’t work out.

However, she quickly added that she had also wanted children of her own — but was very thankful to have had so many wonderful school children to teach and to keep safe each day for so many years.

The Korean War had been going on for a couple of years, and Miss Rumbleheart told us how thankful she was for living in a country where she had freedoms that many other peoples of the world did not.

She said that she was thankful for all those who were serving in the military and who fought for our freedoms and to keep us all safe. “My nephew is in the Army, and he is fighting in Korea.” She noted. “They say the war will be over soon, and I’m thankful for that. We all, everyone in our family, really miss him.”

“It always makes me proud to see the American flag flying high,” she said, adding that we were lucky to live in America and that we should always be thankful for “our special country.”

She said that she was thankful that she felt safe to walk in her neighborhood and while shopping. “People in our town are very polite to each other and we care about each other. I feel safe here and I’m sure thankful for that.”

Television was new then, and she said that she was thankful for being able to see and hear such wonderful things on television. “What a blessing the television is.” She said. “We’ll all be able to learn so many new things with it that radio just can’t duplicate.”

With a smile, she recalled that it made her and the school’s principal very thankful to not have to hear “any foul language” from the students at our school. Again, she told us how proud she was of us for our good manners.

She said that she was thankful for all the families who raised such wonderful children for her to teach in school. And, she added that she was very thankful to have had the opportunity to have “such a special job as a school teacher.”

“I have been truly blessed.” She said.

As she was about to finish talking, I remember seeing some tears in her eyes that she unsuccessfully attempted to hide as she told us how thankful she was for her family, her friends and her God.

The rest of that day remains a bit of a blur. However, the memory of those good feelings and precious teachings about the blessings of living, especially living in America that Miss Rumbleheart instilled in me and many others that day, lingers on even now.

When we returned from our Thanksgiving holiday, Miss Rumbleheart was there to greet us at the door – “Whack” the ruler in hand. Back to the four R’s we went — but, with a new appreciation for our master senior citizen school teacher.

As for me, I’m very thankful for having been blessed with many wonderful teachers throughout the years while living in our great country — but, I’m especially thankful for Miss Rumbleheart and how she forever taught me about being thankful.

These words represent the thoughts and concerns of most true American patriots. Lt. Col. Allen West’s comments need wide exposure — because they are the words of truth! Bob Grafe

The following is a statement released by Retired Lt. Col. Allen West:

This past Thursday 13 American Soldiers were killed and another 30 wounded at a horrific mass shooting at US Army installation, Ft Hood Texas. As I watched in horror and then anger I recalled my two years of final service in the Army as a Battalion Commander at Ft Hood, 2002-2004. My wife and two daughters were stunned at the incident having lived on the post in family housing.

A military installation, whether it is Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine, or Coast Guard, is supposed to be a safe sanctuary for our Warriors and their families. It is intended to provide a home whereby our “Band of Brothers and Sisters” can find solace and bond beyond just the foxhole but as family units. A military installation is supposed to be a place where our Warriors train for war, to serve and protect our Nation.
On Thursday, 5 November 2009 Ft Hood became a part of the battlefield in the war against Islamic totalitarianism and state sponsored terrorism.

There may be those who feel threatened by my words and would even recommend they not be uttered. To those individuals I say step aside because now is not the time for cowardice. Our Country has become so paralyzed by political correctness that we have allowed a vile and determined enemy to breach what should be the safest place in America, an Army post. We have become so politically correct that our media is more concerned about the stress of the shooter, Major Nidal Malik Hasan. The misplaced benevolence intending to portray him as a victim is despicable. The fact that there are some who have now created an entire new classification called; “pre-virtual vicarious Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)” is unconscionable.

This is not a “man caused disaster”. It is what it is, an Islamic jihadist attack.
We have seen this before in 2003 when a SGT Hasan of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) threw hand grenades and opened fire into his Commanding Officer’s tent in Kuwait. We have seen the foiled attempt of Albanian Muslims who sought to attack Ft Dix, NJ. Recently we saw a young convert to Islam named Carlos Bledsoe travel to Yemen, receive terrorist training, and return to gun down two US Soldiers at a Little Rock, Arkansas Army recruiting station. We thwarted another Islamic terrorist plot in North Carolina which had US Marine Corps Base, Quantico as a target.

What have we done with all these prevalent trends? Nothing. What we see are recalcitrant leaders who are refusing to confront the issue, Islamic terrorist infiltration into America, and possibly further into our Armed Services. Instead we have a multiculturalism and diversity syndrome on steroids.

Major Hasan should have never been transferred to Ft Hood, matter of fact he should have been Chaptered from the Army. His previous statements, poor evaluation reports, and the fact that the FBI had him under investigation for jihadist website posting should have been proof positive. However, what we have is a typical liberal approach to find a victim, not the 13 and 30 Soldiers and Civilian, but rather the poor shooter. A shooter who we are told was a great American, who loved the Army and serving his Nation and the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) stating that his actions had nothing to do with religious belief.

We know that Major Hasan deliberately planned this episode; he did give away his possessions. He stood atop a table in the confined space of the Soldier Readiness Center shouting “Allahu Akhbar”, same chant as the 9-11 terrorists and those we fight against overseas in the Iraq and Afghanistan theaters of operation.

No one in leadership seems willing to sound the alarm for the American people; they are therefore complicit in any future attacks. Our Congress should suspend the insidious action to vote on a preposterous and unconstitutional healthcare bill and resolve the issue of “protecting the American people”.

The recent incidents in Dearborn Michigan, Boston Massachusetts, Dallas Texas, and Chicago Illinois should bear witness to the fact that we have an Islamic terrorism issue in America. And don’t have CAIR call me and try to issue a vanilla press statement; they are an illegitimate terrorist associated organization which should be disbanded. We have Saudi Arabia funding close to 80% of the mosques in the United States, one right here in South Florida, Pompano Beach. Are we building churches and synagogues in Saudi Arabia? Are “Kaffirs” and “Infidels” allowed travel to Mecca? So much for peaceful coexistence.

Saudi Arabia is sponsoring radical Imams who enter into our prisons and convert young men into a virulent Wahabbist ideology….one resulting in four individuals wanting to destroy synagogues in New York with plastic explosives. Thank God the explosives were dummy. They are sponsoring textbooks which present Islamic centric revisionist history in our schools.

We must recognize that there is an urgent need to separate the theo-political radical Islamic ideology out of our American society. We must begin to demand surveillance of suspected Imams and mosques that are spreading hate and preaching the overthrow of our Constitutional Republic……that speech is not protected under First Amendment, it is sedition and if done by an American treason. There should not be some 30 Islamic terrorist training camps in America that has nothing to do with First Amendment, Freedom of Religion. The Saudis are not our friends and any American political figure who believes such is delusional. When tolerance becomes a one way street it certainly leads to cultural suicide. We are on that street. Liberals cannot be trusted to defend our Republic, because their sympathies obviously lie with their perceived victim, Major Nidal Malik Hasan.

I make no apologies for these words, and anyone angered by them, please, go to Ft Hood and look into the eyes of the real victims. The tragedy at Ft Hood Texas did not have to happen. Consider now the feelings of those there and on every military installation in the world. Consider the feelings of the Warriors deployed into combat zones who now are concerned that their loved ones at home are in a combat zone.
Ft Hood suffered an Islamic jihadist attack, stop the denial, and realize a simple point.

The reality of your enemy must become your own.
Steadfast and Loyal,

For those of you who are concerned about the direction this country is taking regarding political correctness and multiculturalism, please read the following which appears this week in the Peter Morrison Report online. Bob Grafe

Summary of this week’s Peter Morrison report:

The recent massacre at Fort Hood demonstrates the dangers of
immigration, affirmative action, multiculturalism and political
correctness. If it weren’t for these policies, this and many other
preventable horrors could have been avoided. It’s time to reverse
course and get back to sanity in America.

My prayers are for the victims and their families, and I see it as
a solemn duty for all Americans to carefully examine the true
causes of this tragedy to help ensure a similar terrorist act will
never happen again.

Full report:

On November 5, all of America was stunned when the news broke that
there had been a mass shooting at Fort Hood in Killeen, with many
casualties. Eventually we learned that thirteen people had been
murdered, and dozens others wounded in just a few minutes, all the
work of one man, Army psychiatrist Nidal Malik Hasan. Hasan is a
Muslim of Palestinian descent, and when his name was first
broadcast, tens of millions of Americans naturally wondered if his
race and religion didn’t play a huge role in motivating him to go
on a mass killing spree. Our worst fears were confirmed when we
learned that Hasan shouted “Allahu Akbar!,” an Arabic phrase for
“Allah is the Greatest!” as he mowed down unarmed American
soldiers. How could this happen in the US military?

The liberal media went into crisis mode immediately to nip that
question in the bud. For them, the crisis wasn’t that dozens of
people had been murdered or wounded on America’s most populous
military base by a treasonous Arab Muslim. No, for the media, the
crisis was that “racists” and “bigots” out there in flyover country
might start putting two and two together and start asking some
questions of our leaders the media would rather they didn’t ask. On
top of this, they wanted to keep America’s anger in check, in order
to make sure that this brutal massacre didn’t slow down America’s
rapid decline into a nightmare of multiculturalism and political
correctness.

The spin started right away, and it’s been going on ever since.
One national news show said it was too bad the killer’s name wasn’t
Smith. We were told that Hasan was mentally ill, and his religion
had absolutely nothing to do with the massacre, and only a bigot
would think otherwise. Several media outlets suggested that Hasan
was suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome, even though he
had never seen combat. There were also countless articles and news
items fretting about a possible “backlash” and how it might affect
Muslims in America. Look at how Barack Obama himself reacted.
After an outrageous and shocking display of insensitivity where he
“gave a shout out” to someone before casually discussing the
massacre for a couple of minutes and then went back to business as
usual, he stressed that American’s shouldn’t “jump to conclusions.”

As Ann Coulter and others have said, to liberals, Hasan and Muslims
are the real victims of the Fort Hood massacre. They go out of
their way to blame everyone and everything except Hasan and his
religion of Jihad. Compare the media’s reaction to the Fort Hood
massacre with their response to the murders of abortionist George
Tiller and a guard at the Holocaust museum. In those cases, plenty
of media pundits had no qualms about blaming the entire pro-life
movement or “right wingers” for the actions of one person. The
Hasan massacre didn’t fit Obama’s and the media’s narrative -
whites, heterosexuals, Americans, Republicans, Christians, US
military = bad, while non-whites, homosexuals, foreigners,
Democrats, Muslims = good.

The media reaction was bad enough, but what was even more shocking
was what came out a few days later. Several members of the Army
and the intelligence community have made statements which would
cause any normal person to wonder why Hasan wasn’t locked up or
dishonorably discharged years ago. Colleagues say he was
constantly engaging in “anti-American rants.” One says Hasan once
stated that “infidels” should be set on fire. We’re told that
Hasan regularly made statements to the effect that Muslims
shouldn’t fight for America against Muslim countries. Incredibly,
we’ve also learned that the FBI was aware that Hasan was trying to
contact al Qaeda, but did nothing about it. Equally amazing is the
report that Hasan once gave a speech to a military medical
conference in which he said that non-Muslims “should be beheaded
and have boiling oil poured down their throats.” Again, absolutely
nothing was done, even though many military doctors were in
attendance at this speech.

How could such a thing happen in America? Actually, the question
should be why we’re surprised that something like this has taken
place. The Fort Hood massacre was the predictable result of
decades of massive immigration from third world countries,
affirmative action, enforcement of political correctness and
“celebration” of diversity and multiculturalism. All of these
policies would be bad enough on their own, but when combined they
result in a prescription for disaster, on both a small and large
scale.

By most accounts, Hasan should’ve been a shining success story.
He’s a second generation immigrant, whose parents came here
legally, and who is fully “assimilated.” He speaks English well,
was smart enough in high school that the Army paid for his medical
school, and he became a licensed medical doctor. His relatives
assure us that he is a “moderate” Muslim. Until November 5th,
Nidal Malik Hasan was the kind of person politicians like to point
to as proof that the “American dream” is still alive, and that
third world immigration makes our country stronger.

However, somewhere along the way the “American dream” turned into a
nightmare. If Hasan is a moderate Muslim, I’d hate to meet a
radical one. He may have done well in high school, but several of
his classmates at medical school say he was unqualified to be
studying at that level, and lazy to boot. Yet, because of quotas
and affirmative action, he still was given a degree. One military
source says officers who heard him praise suicide bombers and call
for the beheading of infidels say that they didn’t complain
“because they’re afraid of getting an equal-opportunity complaint
that can end careers.”

Why did this happen? It happened because political correctness and
the craze for “diversity” are rampant in the military, just as they
are in every aspect of government. The head of the Navy even
declared diversity to be “a strategic imperative.” In a climate
like that, it’s apparently not the Muslim calling for beheadings
and suicide bombings that’s the problem; it’s the person who raises
a red flag about him, because he might interfere with his
commanding officer meeting his diversity goals. Even after Fort
Hood, Army Chief of Staff George Casey’s main concern seems to be
for Muslim soldiers, not America’s future. He’s hoping that
nothing is done to keep Muslims out of the military, because,
according to him, “a diverse army gives us strength.” Perhaps he’s
recently read the dystopian novel 1984, in which “Ignorance Is
Strength.” In another few years, we’ll learn that “Diversity Is
Unity”.

The result of this political correctness is destroying our country
from within. We’re importing millions of third world peoples with
no connections to us or our culture, and expecting them all to
ignore their racial, religious and tribal loyalties and swear
allegiance to a multicultural USA. We tell ourselves the absurd
fairy tale that a nation made up of every ethnic and religious
group under the sun, speaking all kinds of languages, with many of
the groups hating us and/or each other, somehow will make us less
divisive and “stronger.”

Americans that actually love their country are discriminated
against, while people like Hasan are given all kinds of quotas and
affirmative action. Anyone that dissents gets attacked for their
opinion. If anyone says that maybe a Muslim that talks about
beheading non-Muslims shouldn’t be in our military, or that
security agents at airports shouldn’t focus on old ladies while
ignoring young Arabic men dressed in Muslim garb that are acting
suspicious, they’re denounced as “racists” and “bigots.”

If we don’t change our policies, we’d unfortunately better get used
to seeing more Fort Hood type events in the near future. If the
America we grew up in is going to survive, this madness has to
stop, and it has to stop right away. Stopping illegal immigration
and reducing and reforming legal immigration are top priorities.
That’s the first step. Then we need to eliminate all quotas,
preferences, and other forms of affirmative action. Finally, we
have to stop risking the lives of our families and fellow Americans
by letting false accusations of “bigotry” and “racial
discrimination” stand in the way of common sense or law
enforcement, both locally and nationally. As conservatives, we
must start speaking out about these things and insisting that the
GOP act on our concerns. Contrary to what the media would have you
believe, this unspeakable tragedy could have been avoided due to
all the warning signs. For the sake of the future lives that are at
stake, we should do our best to prevent a similar situation from
happening again.

NEW YORK – Federal prosecutors took steps Thursday to seize four U.S. mosques and a Fifth Avenue skyscraper owned by a nonprofit Muslim organization long suspected of being secretly controlled by the Iranian government.

In what could prove to be one of the biggest counterterrorism seizures in U.S. history, prosecutors filed a civil complaint in federal court against the Alavi Foundation, seeking the forfeiture of more than $500 million in assets.

The assets include bank accounts; Islamic centers consisting of schools and mosques in New York City, Maryland, California and Houston; more than 100 acres in Virginia; and a 36-story glass office tower in New York.

Confiscating the properties would be a sharp blow against Iran, which has been accused by the U.S. government of bankrolling terrorism and trying to build a nuclear bomb.

A telephone call and e-mail to Iran’s U.N. Mission seeking comment were not immediately answered.

John D. Winter, the Alavi Foundation’s lawyer, said it intends to litigate the case and prevail. He said the foundation has been cooperating with the government’s investigation for the better part of a year.

“Obviously the foundation is disappointed that the government has decided to bring this action,” Winter told The Associated Press.

It is extremely rare for U.S. law enforcement authorities to seize a house of worship, a step fraught with questions about the First Amendment right to freedom of religion.

The action against the Shiite Muslim mosques is sure to inflame relations between the U.S. government and American Muslims, many of whom are fearful of a backlash after last week’s Fort Hood shooting rampage, blamed on a Muslim American major.

“Whatever the details of the government’s case against the owners of the mosques, as a civil rights organization we are concerned that the seizure of American houses of worship could have a chilling effect on the religious freedom of citizens of all faiths and may send a negative message to Muslims worldwide,” said Ibrahim Hooper, spokesman for the Council on American-Islamic Relations.

The mosques and the skyscraper will remain open while the forfeiture case works its way through court in what could be a long process. What will happen to them if the government ultimately prevails is unclear. But the government typically sells properties it has seized through forfeiture, and the proceeds are sometimes distributed to crime victims.

“No action has been taken against any tenants or occupants of those properties,” U.S. attorney’s office spokeswoman Yusill Scribner said. “The tenants and occupants remain free to use the properties as they have before today’s filing. There are no allegations of any wrongdoing on the part of any of these tenants or occupants.”

Prosecutors said the Alavi Foundation managed the office tower on behalf of the Iranian government and, working with a front company known as Assa Corp., illegally funneled millions in rental income to Iran’s state-owned Bank Melli. Bank Melli has been accused by a U.S. Treasury official of providing support for Iran’s nuclear program, and it is illegal in the United States to do business with the bank.

The U.S. has long suspected the foundation was an arm of the Iranian government; a 97-page complaint details involvement in foundation business by several top Iranian officials, including the deputy prime minister and ambassadors to the United Nations.

“For two decades, the Alavi Foundation’s affairs have been directed by various Iranian officials, including Iranian ambassadors to the United Nations, in violation of a series of American laws,” U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara said in a statement.

There were no raids Thursday as part of the forfeiture action. The government is simply required to post notices of the civil complaint on the property.

As prosecutors outlined their allegations against Alavi, the Islamic centers and the schools they run carried on with normal activity. The mosques’ leaders had no immediate comment.

Parents lined up in their cars to pick up their children at the schools within the Islamic Education Center of Greater Houston and the Islamic Education Center in Rockville, Md. No notices of the forfeiture action were posted at either place as of late Thursday.

At the Islamic Institute of New York, a mosque and school in Queens, two U.S. marshals came to the door and rang the bell repeatedly. The marshals taped a forfeiture notice to the window and left a large document sitting on the ground. After they left a group of men came out of the building and took the document.

The fourth Islamic center marked for seizure is in Carmichael, Calif.

The skyscraper, known as the Piaget building, was erected in the 1970s under the shah of Iran, who was overthrown in 1979. The tenants include law and investment firms and other businesses.

The sleek, modern building, last valued at $570 million to $650 million in 2007, has served as an important source of income for the foundation over the past 36 years. The most recent tax records show the foundation earned $4.5 million from rents in 2007.

Rents collected from the building help fund the centers and other ventures, such as sending educational literature to imprisoned Muslims in the U.S. The foundation has also invested in dozens of mosques around the country and supported Iranian academics at prominent universities.

If federal prosecutors seize the skyscraper, the Alavi Foundation would have almost no way to continue supporting the Islamic centers, which house schools and mosques. That could leave a major void in Shiite communities, and hard feelings toward the FBI, which played a big role in the investigation.

The forfeiture action comes at a tense moment in U.S.-Iranian relations, with the two sides at odds over Iran’s nuclear program and its arrest of three American hikers.

But Michael Rubin, an expert on Iran at the American Enterprise Institute, said the timing of the forfeiture action was probably a coincidence, not an effort to influence Iran on those issues.

“Suspicion about the Alavi Foundation transcends three administrations,” Rubin said. “It’s taken ages dealing with the nuts and bolts of the investigation. It’s not the type of investigation which is part of any larger strategy.”

Legal scholars said they know of only a few cases in U.S. history in which law enforcement authorities have seized a house of worship. Marc Stern, a religious-liberty expert with the American Jewish Congress, called such cases extremely rare.

The Alavi Foundation is the successor organization to the Pahlavi Foundation, a nonprofit group used by the shah to advance Iran’s charitable interests in America. But authorities said its agenda changed after the fall of the shah.

In 2007, the United States accused Bank Melli of providing services to Iran’s nuclear and ballistic missile programs and put the bank on its list of companies whose assets must be frozen. Washington has imposed sanctions against various other Iranian businesses.

Published: November 11, 2009

By: Bob Grafe, Columnist

© As we “baby-boomers” bounce less than gracefully into our retirement years, it may be time to reconsider just exactly what our retirement activities will be.

Depending on how one’s pension plans and investment portfolios are currently doing, that will tend to drive much of our personal activity planning.

At sixty-something, many of us are very concerned about the direction that our country has taken on many life-style fronts—the collapse within our country’s financial structure being only one of many such perceived national failures.

With government showing serious signs of being totally out of control on many critical fronts, it appears certain that the about-to-enter retirement generation is also about to re-invent the retiree—from the “relax in the sun RVer” to the “seasoned patriot” called back to duty.

With new disturbing revelations continuing to leak out about last week’s Fort Hood shooter (a practicing life-long Muslim and a field-grade officer in the U.S. Army), current and retired United States military personnel are less-than-quietly voicing their concerns.

Concerns about how and why our country is using active-duty military personnel who are members of the Islamic religion (estimated at nearly 4,000 active-duty personnel) to provide so-called “intelligence” while our country is engaged in the War on Terror (focused largely against Muslim-majority countries and Muslim terrorist groups world-wide) which resulted from the various attacks against the U.S. including the most devastating attacks on September 11, 2001.

This may be asking way too much from an American religious group with a very real potential for conflicting loyalties between country and religion.

There must be a better way to provide excellent intelligence without providing the perfect storm characteristics that may have triggered the death and injury to so many of our U.S. soldiers at Fort Hood last week.

Since Congress recently found it appropriate to fund billions of tax-payer dollars for such community action groups as the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN), under the quasi-government umbrella of AmeriCorps, the funds are now readily available for a “qualified” workforce to be mustered together to assist our country during this time of violence and attack from abroad and from within and to provide many other needed services.

Who other than patriotic senior citizens of all political stripes could and should be called into action to assist our country to get it back on its feet again—and soon!

ACORN has been totally discredited as a social service agency and acknowledged as such by Congress. By contrast, senior citizens are some of the finest, most honest, moral and certainly most capable of any group in our society who has both the willingness and the experience to help put this country back together again.

With both part and full-time efforts, this new group of senior patriots could be trained to do the tasks that the military has required only one religious group to do—to learn the terrorist’s foreign languages, their cultural customs and habits—and to provide “listening” and other intelligence tasks for our military and other protective agencies.

Just like during World War II, seniors and others committed to the American way of life joined forces with common beliefs, drive, work ethic and excellence to help defeat the enemy—not from combat’s front lines across the oceans—from right here at home.

Our government leaders at the time of World War II didn’t embed those living within our homeland borders (those who had strong national and cultural ties with the enemy) into our military ranks. That would have been considered treason and anti-American by the vast majority of our American citizens.

The United States effectively won World War II and protected its citizens by applying such military tactics—and didn’t worry about political correctness because, if we had, that might have actually caused us to lose the war.

American senior citizens of all races, creeds, gender and political persuasion are one of the most (if not the most) patriotic groups in our country. They have proven over and over again that one needs to put God and country first in all aspects of life in order to actually provide for a more perfect union.

For example, given the opportunity to help with our national defense, especially after training in the intelligence field, accomplishes several worthy national goals.

By definition, it would help our country’s national defenses. It would also call upon the sage advice and effort of thousands of skilled and experienced devoted American senior citizens who may need to (or prefer to) work a little longer for a variety of reasons.

These same seniors could be called upon to provide many of the services that AmeriCorps currently provides within our local, state and even national communities.

The artificial employment barriers of age, and even some employment disqualifying disabilities and unrealistic employment expectations might have to be suspended, altered or removed in some cases—for the cause of defending all of our freedoms—allowing for a win-win situation for both the country and for our senior citizens.

Having patriotic senior citizens taking a very active part in the re-building of this country’s defenses, community tasks, and private sector service and business ventures is nothing less that the perfect quid-pro-quo.

The country wins and so do many of our talented and patriotic senior citizens.

© The Fort Hood Muslim terrorist coward who shot over 100 bullets at unarmed American military personnel this week (murdering and wounding over 50 brave Americans) deserves to be burned together with his beloved Koran satanic hate book in a large fire pit. The large fire pit designed to throw this Islamic terrorist coward freak into needs to be large and deep–deep enough to hold the many terrorists identified at the following Muslim terrorist website as well as the Fort Hood coward shooter: http://www.revolutionmuslim.com/

Check out the Muslim website (and others), check your local homeland for security, and “remove” all Muslim terrorists who are a real threat to this country.

© Associated Press

DETROIT — Federal authorities on Wednesday arrested several members of a radical Sunni Islam group in the U.S., killing one of its leaders at a shootout in a Michigan warehouse, the U.S. attorney’s office said.

Agents were trying to arrest Luqman Ameen Abdullah, 53, at a Dearborn warehouse on charges that included conspiracy to sell stolen goods and illegal possession and sale of firearms. Authorities also conducted raids elsewhere to try to round up 10 followers named in a federal complaint.

Abdullah refused to surrender, fired a weapon and was killed by gunfire from agents, FBI spokeswoman Sandra Berchtold said.

In the 43-paged complaint unsealed Wednesday, the FBI said Abdullah, also known as Christopher Thomas, was an imam, or prayer leader, of a radical group named Ummah whose primary mission is to establish an Islamic state within the United States.

No one was charged with terrorism. But Abdullah was “advocating and encouraging his followers to commit violent acts against the United States,” FBI agent Gary Leone said in an affidavit.

He told them it was their “duty to oppose the FBI and the government and it does not matter if they die,” Leone said.

Abdullah regularly preached anti-government rhetoric and was trained, along with his followers, in the use of firearms, martial arts and swords, the agent said.

Leone said members of the national group mostly are black and some converted to Islam while in prisons across the United States.

“Abdullah preaches that every Muslim should have a weapon, and should not be scared to use their weapon when needed,” Leone wrote.

Seven of the 10 people charged with Abdullah were in custody, including a state prison inmate, the U.S. attorney’s office said. Three were still at large. Another man not named in the complaint also was arrested.

The group believes that a separate Islamic state in the U.S. would be controlled by Jamil Abdullah Al-Amin, formerly known as H. Rap Brown, who is serving a life sentence in a federal prison in Colorado for shooting two police officers in Georgia in 2000, Leone said. Al-Amin, a veteran of the black power movement, started the group after he converted to Islam in prison.

“They’re not taking their cues from overseas,” said Jimmy Jones, a professor of world religions at Manhattanville College and a longtime Muslim prison chaplain. “This group is very much American born and bred.”

The movement at one time was believed to include a couple of dozen mosques around the country. Ummah is now dwarfed in numbers and influence by other African-American Muslim groups, particularly the mainstream Sunnis who were led by Imam W.D. Mohammed, who recently died.

By evening, authorities still were working the scene near the Detroit-Dearborn border and the warehouse was surrounded by police tape.

The U.S. attorney’s office said an FBI dog was also killed during the shootout.

Abdullah’s mosque is in a brick duplex on a quiet, residential street in Detroit. A sign on the door in English and Arabic reads, in part, “There is no God but Allah.”

Several men congregated on the porch Wednesday night and subsequently attacked a photographer from The Detroit News who was taking pictures from across the street. Ricardo Thomas had his camera equipment smashed and had a bloody lip from the attack.

Imad Hamad, regional director of the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee in Dearborn, said the FBI had briefed him about Wednesday’s raids and told him they were the result of a two-year investigation.

“We know that this is not something to be projected as something against Muslims,” Hamad said.

The complaint shows the FBI built its case with the help of confidential sources close to Abdullah who recorded conversations.

A source said that Abdullah regularly beat children inside the mosque with sticks, including a boy who was “unable to walk for several days,” Leone said.

The source, according to the agent, regularly listened to a recording of a 2004 sermon in which Abdullah said, “Do not carry a pistol if you’re going to give it up to police. You give them a bullet!”

In January 2009, members were evicted from a former mosque for failing to pay property taxes. An FBI search turned up empty shell casings and large holes in the concrete wall of a “shooting range,” Leone said.

Dawud Walid, executive director of the Michigan chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, said the federal authorities’ description of Abdullah’s extremist links didn’t match what he knew of Abdullah.

“I knew him to be charitable,” Walid said. “He would open up the mosque to homeless people. He used to run a soup kitchen and feed indigent people. … I knew nothing of him that was related to any nefarious or criminal behavior.”

Abdullah had a wife and children, Walid said. A phone number for the family had been disconnected.

By: Bob Grafe, Columnist

© Wake up America! It’s time that we got rid of all illegal aliens—one way or another! It is obvious now that our federal authorities will not enforce our existing immigration laws pertaining to illegal immigrants which will lead to the destruction of the United States as we know it unless we act soon!

As you read this column, please remember that I am referring to “illegal aliens.” I am not referring to all those great immigrants from around the world living in America who followed the laws of our nation in order to obtain or apply for “legal” citizenship. We are blessed in this country by the great numbers and diversity of “law-abiding” immigrants.

It makes no difference where the “illegals” are from. All illegal aliens have to leave our country … now! If they are forced to leave in a box—so be it!

The time limit has long since passed by for all illegal aliens who are destroying this country to be removed from its boundaries.

If you know of illegal aliens living nearby, let everyone else (including local and state law enforcement) know of their illegal status by use of signs, pamphlets, telephone calls to their employers, calls to their children’s schools, to immigration authorities, to the business owners they frequent, and to their other relatives if you can find out who they are.

Let these illegals know that there are many people who are working together to force them to leave the country immediately. This may have to be done one illegal alien at a time—one community at a time—but, it can be done!

All that illegal aliens do for this country is to cause disruption, crime, racism, dumbing down of our schools, filth in our restrooms, obnoxious smells in our public places, unwanted trash and debris just thrown around our streets and neighborhoods, runaway dogs and other left-for-behind animals, higher costs for our welfare and criminal justice systems, over-crowding of our schools, gang infestation in our communities, promote non-English speaking beggars, nurture the imported baby-a-minute sex mentality, enjoy illegal drugs being sold and used with abandon, disrupt with loud and disgusting so-called music, agitate with an in-your-face approach to our legal citizens with their alien anti-American attitudes, wearing baggy pants, slut-clothing, ugly God-forbidden tattoos and piercings, and promoting their total disregard for our American culture and values.

It doesn’t matter whether they are from the drug-infested slums of Mexico and South and Central America, the Godless communist-influenced country of China, the Satan-driven countries of the Muslim world, or from anywhere else for that matter. They all must be forced out of our country immediately—yes, by force when necessary.

This is a call to all thinking and caring fellow countrymen. If you have contact with illegal aliens who are now living within our borders, it is time to take matters into our own hands and force them out by whatever means it takes.

If they are your employees—fire them!

If they are your neighbors—make them feel very unwelcome. Do whatever it takes to rid them from your neighborhoods. Call on your fellow-citizen friends to assist in making these people want to run from your neighborhoods.

If they are your customers—close the door to these illegals. They are just as bad as shop-lifters and worse. They should not be allowed in your stores or to do business with you in any manner. Don’t sell them anything!

If they do not speak English, throw them out unless they are accompanied by an English-speaking citizen who will vouch for them as being “legal” immigrants or immigrants in the process of becoming naturalized as a U.S. citizen.

If they are members of your church, remind your congregants that your eternal laws demand that everyone follows the laws of the land. Most churches recognize that it is a sin to lie. Illegal aliens are living the lie! Since these illegals are not following the laws of the U.S., you must throw them out. Pay for their way out of the country and pray for them if you must—but get them out of our country.

If you are an officer of the law, the court or the legislative system, you must see that you apply every ounce of pressure that you can find to arrest, prosecute and deport these thieves in our midst.

There is no such thing as a good illegal alien. At best, they are thieves. At worst, they are dishonest thieves and more.

Many of these lazy thieves from south of the border and elsewhere are taking the jobs that should go to America’s unemployed. If you work with illegals, let them know through every means available that they are not wanted in this country. Make life look much better to them back across the border or elsewhere. Complain to your employer about them being illegal. Turn your employer in to the federal immigration system and turn them in to the local media if they don’t get rid of the illegals.

If you are a school teacher, administrator or school board member, you have a moral duty to YOUR country to immediately stop educating these unwanted children who clog up our educational system. Get them out of your school in any way that you can. Figure out a way to make them and their parents feel very uncomfortable around people who know that they are illegal.

If you are a medical practitioner, do not waste our medical care facilities and supplies on undocumented burglars who have broken into our country and our medical-care system to steal from us. Don’t let these pregnant whores from across the border slip into an American hospital in Texas just to have a baby who will (under current law) become an automatic citizen of this once-great nation.

Send these citizenship thieves packing—pregnant or not. Refuse long-term treatment if they cannot provide proof of legal U.S. citizenship. Kick them out. They are going to cause our medical care system to collapse—and it will be your gutless fault if it happens!

Once these illegals are removed from the United States, legal citizens can reclaim all that is theirs left behind by the illegals. Things like jobs, less wait and fees at the hospital’s emergency room, more space in the public school room, lower auto insurance rates because many of the illegal uninsured motorists will be gone, cleaner and safer communities, less confrontation when we want to observe our national holidays, fewer rewrites to our history books by illegal sympathizers, and less frustration in dealing with illegal aliens who do not speak our nation’s language—English!

And, finally, when they are gone, we need to once and for all, secure all of our country’s boundaries—north, south, east and west. We need to regain control of our Congress and our immigration rules—and we need to reclaim our United States of America!

By: Bob Grafe

In case you haven’t bothered to do the math, there are only 79 more days until Christmas and only 50 more days until Thanksgiving.

Sure, there are the usual planning panics about who is going to visit who — did the kids come here or did we go there last year? And, there is always the worry about this aunt or that grandfather or that allergy-prone 6-year-old who you recall have “special” dietary needs.

If only you could remember what they were!

For Thanksgiving there may be questions about who sits next to each other during the annual family feast around the extended table or tables. Certain relatives really should not be allowed in the same house together let alone in close proximity to each other where bodily harm is relatively easy to accomplish.

And, on Christmas there is always the question of do we or do we not exchange gifts. Should we just do a big “family” exchange where everyone only spends a limited amount of money for a gift … and everyone knows that certain “someone” who is either the family cheapskate or the family spendthrift who always either forgets or knowingly ignores the agreed upon gift-exchange “rules.”

Then there are those traditional family games to be planned. Maybe a flag football or softball game is scheduled. Some families are big into “board” games. For others, maybe a terrific football game on television is “game enough” after the nine-course turkey dinner is finished.

But, during all the upcoming holiday events, one item is often overlooked by very well-meaning holiday get-together hosts.

What to do with our elderly senior citizens to make the holiday experience pleasurable for them is often forgotten or puzzling during the planning process.

Here are some suggestions that will help your aging guests to not only feel more a part of the family’s holiday fun, but will also help them with limited exercise and assist them with keeping their minds working well — well into their advanced senior years.

Many seniors are not that familiar with the newer digital cameras. But, every family has someone (usually the “younger” generation) who knows the ins and outs of modern photography. That younger family member could let the senior “fiddle” with a digital camera to gain some familiarity. You may want to have previously taken some photos of the senior’s favorite items/places/persons and possibly show them as a slide show on a computer screen to let them see what can now be done in photography with little effort. Be sure to let the senior member of the family take some of the family’s holiday photos.

While you have the senior present, it is always a good time to make some notes or recordings of the senior for family history purposes.

You might ask them who was their best friend and why? What games did they like to play in their youth and older? What was the best birthday present they ever got? Did they ever have a nickname? This could be a very engaging and a priceless memory for the entire family.

Some of our seniors had companion pets for many years and now miss them. It might be possible to “borrow” a gentle puppy or kitten for the day and allow the senior to enjoy the company of a pet while also enjoying a holiday visit.

For more active seniors a favorite game is bingo. To make the game fun for the entire family, a visit to the local “dollar” store can provide a wide variety of inexpensive yet practical (or just fun) prizes.

Another fun activity for seniors and others is to have every guest provide a baby picture of themselves. Mix up the photos on a table (face up) and have everyone write down on a separate piece of paper who they think the baby is. Read the answers aloud and enjoy the frequently funny responses to the wrong guesses.

Often, these photos will remind the seniors of old times and they may enjoy telling a story of where they were living, and with whom, when the baby pictures were taken. They might be asked to then tell about what was going on in the world (historically) when they were born and during their childhood years.

Even singing old-time songs — like In the Good Ol’ Summertime — will help seniors to be involved and to recall pleasant experiences.

Early barbershop quartet songs and campfire songs also tend to keep the senior engaged and tend to help with memory functions as they participate and enjoy the singing together with other family members.

The important thing to remember as we close in on the traditional holiday season and begin our “get-together” planning, is that our elderly seniors really do want to be part of the festivities — even if their participation is relatively limited.

Elder D. Todd Christofferson
Of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Talk presented during a church conference held on October 3, 2009 at Salt Lake City, Utah, USA

Moral discipline is the consistent exercise of agency to choose the right because it is right, even when it is hard.

During World War II, President James E. Faust, then a young enlisted man in the United States Army, applied for officer candidate school. He appeared before a board of inquiry composed of what he described as “hard-bitten career soldier[s].” After a while their questions turned to matters of religion. The final questions were these:

“In times of war should not the moral code be relaxed? Does not the stress of battle justify men in doing things that they would not do when at home under normal situations?”

President Faust relates:

“I recognized that here was a chance perhaps to make some points and look broad-minded. I knew perfectly well that the men who were asking me this question did not live by the standards that I had been taught. The thought flashed through my mind that perhaps I could say that I had my own beliefs but did not wish to impose them on others. But there seemed to flash before my mind the faces of the many people to whom I had taught the law of chastity as a missionary. In the end I simply said, ‘I do not believe there is a double standard of morality.’

“I left the hearing resigned to the fact that [they] would not like the answers I had given . . . and would surely score me very low. A few days later when the scores were posted, to my astonishment I had passed. I was in the first group taken for officer’s candidate school! . . .

“This was one of the critical crossroads of my life.”1

President Faust recognized that we all possess the God-given gift of moral agency—the right to make choices and the obligation to account for those choices (see D&C 101:78). He also understood and demonstrated that, for positive outcomes, moral agency must be accompanied by moral discipline.

By “moral discipline,” I mean self-discipline based on moral standards. Moral discipline is the consistent exercise of agency to choose the right because it is right, even when it is hard. It rejects the self-absorbed life in favor of developing character worthy of respect and true greatness through Christlike service (see Mark 10:42–45). The root of the word discipline is shared by the word disciple, suggesting to the mind the fact that conformity to the example and teachings of Jesus Christ is the ideal discipline that, coupled with His grace, forms a virtuous and morally excellent person.

Jesus’s own moral discipline was rooted in His discipleship to the Father. To His disciples He explained, “My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work” (John 4:34). By this same pattern, our moral discipline is rooted in loyalty and devotion to the Father and the Son. It is the gospel of Jesus Christ that provides the moral certainty upon which moral discipline rests.

The societies in which many of us live have for more than a generation failed to foster moral discipline. They have taught that truth is relative and that everyone decides for himself or herself what is right. Concepts such as sin and wrong have been condemned as “value judgments.” As the Lord describes it, “Every man walketh in his own way, and after the image of his own god” (D&C 1:16).

As a consequence, self-discipline has eroded and societies are left to try to maintain order and civility by compulsion. The lack of internal control by individuals breeds external control by governments. One columnist observed that “gentlemanly behavior [for example, once] protected women from coarse behavior. Today, we expect sexual harassment laws to restrain coarse behavior. . . .

“Policemen and laws can never replace customs, traditions and moral values as a means for regulating human behavior. At best, the police and criminal justice system are the last desperate line of defense for a civilized society. Our increased reliance on laws to regulate behavior is a measure of how uncivilized we’ve become.”2

In most of the world, we have been experiencing an extended and devastating economic recession. It was brought on by multiple causes, but one of the major causes was widespread dishonest and unethical conduct, particularly in the U.S. housing and financial markets. Reactions have focused on enacting more and stronger regulation. Perhaps that may dissuade some from unprincipled conduct, but others will simply get more creative in their circumvention.3 There could never be enough rules so finely crafted as to anticipate and cover every situation, and even if there were, enforcement would be impossibly expensive and burdensome. This approach leads to diminished freedom for everyone. In the memorable phrase of Bishop Fulton J. Sheen, “We would not accept the yoke of Christ; so now we must tremble at the yoke of Caesar.”4

In the end, it is only an internal moral compass in each individual that can effectively deal with the root causes as well as the symptoms of societal decay. Societies will struggle in vain to establish the common good until sin is denounced as sin and moral discipline takes its place in the pantheon of civic virtues.5

Moral discipline is learned at home. While we cannot control what others may or may not do, the Latter-day Saints can certainly stand with those who demonstrate virtue in their own lives and inculcate virtue in the rising generation. Remember from Book of Mormon history the young men who were key to the Nephite victory in the long war of 66 to 60 B.C.—the sons of the people of Ammon. Their character and discipline were described in these words:

“They were men who were true at all times in whatsoever thing they were entrusted.

“Yea, they were men of truth and soberness, for they had been taught to keep the commandments of God and to walk uprightly before him” (Alma 53:20–21).

“Now they never had fought, yet they did not fear death; and they did think more upon the liberty of their fathers than they did upon their lives; yea, they had been taught by their mothers, that if they did not doubt, God would deliver them” (Alma 56:47).

“Now this was the faith of these of whom I have spoken; they are young, and their minds are firm, and they do put their trust in God continually” (Alma 57:27).

Here we find a standard for what should happen in our homes and in the Church. Our teaching should draw upon our own faith and focus first and foremost on instilling faith in God in the rising generation. We must declare the essential need to keep the commandments of God and to walk uprightly before Him in soberness, or in other words, with reverence. Each must be persuaded that service and sacrifice for the well-being and happiness of others are far superior to making one’s own comfort and possessions the highest priority.

This requires more than an occasional reference to one or another gospel principle. There must be constant teaching, mostly by example. President Henry B. Eyring expressed the vision we strive to attain:

“The pure gospel of Jesus Christ must go down into the hearts of [our children] by the power of the Holy Ghost. It will not be enough for them to have had a spiritual witness of the truth and to want good things later. It will not be enough for them to hope for some future cleansing and strengthening. Our aim must be for them to become truly converted to the restored gospel of Jesus Christ while they are with us. . . .

“Then they will have gained a strength from what they are, not only from what they know. They will become disciples of Christ.”6

I have heard a few parents state that they don’t want to impose the gospel on their children but want them to make up their own minds about what they will believe and follow. They think that in this way they are allowing children to exercise their agency. What they forget is that the intelligent use of agency requires knowledge of the truth, of things as they really are (see D&C 93:24). Without that, young people can hardly be expected to understand and evaluate the alternatives that come before them. Parents should consider how the adversary approaches their children. He and his followers are not promoting objectivity but are vigorous, multimedia advocates of sin and selfishness.

Seeking to be neutral about the gospel is, in reality, to reject the existence of God and His authority. We must, rather, acknowledge Him and His omniscience if we want our children to see life’s choices clearly and be able to think for themselves. They should not have to learn by sad experience that “wickedness never was happiness” (Alma 41:10).

I can share with you a simple example from my own life of what parents can do. When I was about five or six years old, I lived across the street from a small grocery store. One day two other boys invited me to go with them to the store. As we stood coveting the candy for sale there, the older boy grabbed a candy bar and slipped it into his pocket. He urged the other boy and me to do the same, and after some hesitation we did. Then we quickly left the store and ran off in separate directions. I found a hiding place at home and tore off the candy wrapper. My mother discovered me with the chocolate evidence smeared on my face and escorted me back to the grocery store. As we crossed the street, I was sure I was facing life imprisonment. With sobs and tears, I apologized to the owner and paid him for the candy bar with a dime that my mother had loaned me (which I had to earn later). My mother’s love and discipline put an abrupt and early end to my life of crime.

All of us experience temptations. So did the Savior, but He “gave no heed unto them” (D&C 20:22). Similarly, we do not have to yield simply because a temptation surfaces. We may want to, but we don’t have to. An incredulous female friend asked a young adult woman, committed to living the law of chastity, how it was possible that she had never “slept with anybody.” “Don’t you want to?” the friend asked. The young woman thought: “The question intrigued me, because it was so utterly beside the point. . . . Mere wanting is hardly a proper guide for moral conduct.”7

In some cases, temptation may have the added force of potential or actual addiction. I am grateful that for an increasing number of people the Church can provide therapeutic help of various kinds to aid them in avoiding or coping with addictions. Even so, while therapy can support a person’s will, it cannot substitute for it. Always and ever, there must be an exercise of discipline—moral discipline founded on faith in God the Father and the Son and what They can achieve with us through the atoning grace of Jesus Christ. In Peter’s words, “The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations” (2 Peter 2:9).

We cannot presume that the future will resemble the past—that things and patterns we have relied upon economically, politically, socially will remain as they have been. Perhaps our moral discipline, if we will cultivate it, will have an influence for good and inspire others to pursue the same course. We may thereby have an impact on future trends and events. At a minimum, moral discipline will be of immense help to us as we deal with whatever stresses and challenges may come in a disintegrating society.

We have heard thoughtful and inspired messages during this conference, and in a moment President Thomas S. Monson will provide concluding words of counsel. As we prayerfully consider what we have learned and relearned, I believe that the Spirit will shed further light on those things that have particular application for each of us individually. We will be fortified in the moral discipline needed to walk uprightly before the Lord and be at one with Him and the Father.

I stand with my brethren and with you, my brothers and sisters, as a witness that God is our Father and that His Son, Jesus, is our Redeemer. Their law is immutable, Their truth is everlasting, and Their love is infinite. In the name of Jesus Christ, amen.

For those senior citizens who lived through the “Great” Depression of the 1930s, the consensus of opinion is that it really was “not” so great — unless, perhaps, you were living on a productive farm in rural America.

Mrs. Rumbleheart, my 1950’s fifth-grade teacher at Lincoln Elementary School, was one of those who survived the depression while somehow managing to complete her teacher’s college education at the same time. She would occasionally comment quietly something to the effect that “Maybe I should have stayed working on my father’s dairy farm.”

It would be interesting today, during our current difficult economic times, to hear what Mrs. Rumbleheart would counsel prospective young college students in the throes of evaluating their options of attending college or going directly into the workforce instead.

One rainy day, Mrs. Rumbleheart described how difficult it was for her to leave her parent’s farm to attend college — at great expense to her parents.

“My mother had always told me that I needed to go to college and my father always told me that it was a total waste of both time and money — especially during the Depression.” she told our class.

While in college during the 1930s, she estimated that the cost was about $2,300 per year for tuition, books, room and board — and even dances, she noted. That was for nine months of study. A tidy sum of money for that time.

During her summer break, Mrs. Rumbleheart would return to the farm to help her family. After graduation, as a beginning teacher, and being a female teacher (at the time, paid much less than her male colleagues), her annual income was about $2,000 per year.

Her father and others would remind Mrs. Rumbleheart frequently that it would take “forever” to recoup the out-of-pocket cost for college as well as her loss of income (had she chosen to join the workforce) during her four years of college — “shenanigans,” as her father would refer to them as.

Fast forward to today when senior citizens throughout the country are dealing with tough economic decisions as costs for “higher” education continue to skyrocket while senior citizens’ expendable income continues to dwindle.

Grandparents especially want to be of assistance to their grandchildren when and how they can. So, when it comes to helping out the grandchildren with “college” choices, what do you advise your grandchildren?

You probably neead to share both pros and cons with them. During the 2000 census, average lifetime earnings for high school graduates was $1.2 million compared to $2.1 million for those with a bachelor’s degree — double that for professional degrees.

But, that was in the year 2000. Will that stand the test of time during our current and future economic roller coaster ride?

And, can your grandchildren actually afford (even with your help) to attend college? Today’s “in-state” annual tuition at Texas A&M University in College Station is $8,336. A&M’s “out-of-state” annual tuition at College Station is $22,886.

If your grandchild prefers to attend Texas Lutheran University, a small liberal arts college, the current annual tuition and fees are about $22,000 per year. At Texas State University in San Marcos the “in-state” tuition and fees are $7,482 while the “out-of-state” cost is $15,792.

Perhaps your grandchild is Harvard, Princeton or Yale bound. There the annual tuition and fees “begin” at over $35,000.

None of those tuition and fees estimates includes the “extra” costs for room, board, books, transportation, etc.

Compare those costs with the cost of a four-week commercial truck driver’s school (or other schooling where skilled “trades” are taught) where the tuition and fees typically run less than $4,500 for the truck driving school — and way-above minimum wage paychecks begin almost immediately after completion of the course.

Mrs. Rumbleheart never talked about Mary R. Beard, co-author of “The Rise of American Civilization.” Perhaps she was not aware of the author. But, I’m sure that my former school teacher would be giving sage advise to those young potential college students of today based, at least in part, on what Beard wrote: “The most helpless people in the world are the formally educated and there is a great deal of evidence that college education is not only negative but is a liability in the business world.”

Individuals who made the conscious choice to proceed with their lives without the disruption and cost of a college education degree include Bill Gates, Harry S. Truman, Abraham Lincoln, Peter Jennings, Charlton Heston, Walt Disney, Steve Jobs, Michael Dell, Orville and Wilbur Wright, William Faulkner, Michael Moore, Lance Armstrong, Chuck Yeager, Eleanor Roosevelt, Ernest Hemingway, Frank Lloyd Wright, Walter Cronkite and countless others.

When it comes to providing both loving advice and costly financial assistance to grandchildren, senior citizens have some tough choices to make when the topic of a college education is discussed.

Regardless of whether the counsel is for or against attending a college or university, the end result will probably not guarantee either financial or other determining factors of the young person’s realization of “success” in life.

Most senior citizens have experienced the reality that “education” is where the individual finds it — not necessarily where the academic and governmental numbers crunchers suggest that it be found.

Mrs. Rumbleheart would have made a very well educated and successful truck driver.

© Have you ever wondered why the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers seldom remove known illegal aliens from our country? Maybe it is because no one has bothered to tell them where to find them. Well, here’s a start for our Texas-based ICE officers. For the past fifteen years (at least), illegal aliens looking for “cash” day laborer jobs, have gathered (and continue to gather) at the northwest corner of Kingsbury Street and Guadalupe Street in Seguin, Guadalupe County, Texas (adjacent San Antonio) usually between the hours of 6 – 9 a.m. Frequently, there are a dozen or more known “illegals” just waiting for ICE to stop by and offer them a free ride south of the border. Please use the comment section of this post to describe the location of illegal aliens in your area. You may also copy and mail or email the posted locations to other “interested” parties. Maybe ICE, Congress and our own local law enforcement agencies will catch the vision that WE THE PEOPLE (being “legal” U.S. citizens) do NOT WANT illegal aliens in our country … PERIOD!! Let your voice be heard!

Published August 20, 2009

© These days it’s not real easy for senior citizens to distinguish between whether the country is suffering from a “depression” or from a “recession.”

Apparently there was the same confusion during President Harry S. Truman’s term in office. Recognizing the need for clarification, Truman is quoted as stating “It’s a recession when your neighbor loses his job; it’s a depression when you lose yours!”

Keeping that thought in mind, many senior citizens have chosen recently to postpone retirement choosing to keep their current job — or have been involuntarily “retired.”

Solvent employers usually recognize the benefits of either keeping current senior workers or employing new senior workers. It is no secret that senior workers bring to the employment table their years of experience making them valuable to their employer by being excellent team players — both in terms of the quality of work they are able to provide and by frequently being able to provide necessary mentoring for junior colleagues.

Even during challenging economic times, most employers agree that they value the reliability of seasoned employees and they often admire their work ethic.

All of that said, there seems to be something special about the age 65 for some employees and employers alike. Is it the time when you have acquired sufficient experience to lose one’s job through forced retirement — perhaps because you’re no longer cost effective?

There’s an old saying that “The best time to start thinking about your retirement is before the boss does.”

That old saying seems to ring true during these difficult times when nationwide unemployment rates are nearing the 10 percent level. Adding to the across-the-board employment troubles, there seems to be a very mistaken notion floating about that senior citizens can’t be productive members of their respective workforce once they’ve reached “old age.”

This notion is both false and illegal. The Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 makes it against federal law to discriminate against job applicants and employees on the basis of age.

The act specifically states that “It shall be unlawful for an employer to fail or refuse to hire or to discharge any individual or otherwise discriminate against any individual with respect to his compensation, terms, conditions, or privileges of employment because of such individual’s age.”

To take this act into the real world of today’s employment market place, many lawyers specializing in employment law, recommend that employers should not even ask job applicants for their age out of concern that it may give the impression that the employer is fishing for some age-related reason for not hiring the applicant.

Setting possible age discrimination in employment matters aside, for some senior citizens, the thought of having to find a new job at an advanced age in life is just an agonizing thought process. For others, the thought is invigorating because it gives the senior citizen the opportunity to perhaps work at something that they have always wanted to do — but never had the time or opportunity to do so.

Even with today’s high unemployment rates, many employers are looking for part-time and temporary employees who do not require many employment “benefits” such as vacation pay, sick pay and health insurance coverage. Senior citizens often times can fill an employer’s temporary and/or part-time niche jobs with ease.

The employer receives the benefit of a reliable employee and the senior citizen employee receives the benefit of perhaps a flex-time schedule, extra time off (without pay), and the advantage of perhaps learning about an industry that was of interest to the senior — but, unavailable because of other time commitments.

Some senior citizens may even want to venture into the business ownership arena from perhaps owning and operating a franchise business to a possible work-at-home venture.

Senior citizens who just aren’t in the mood to retire — but who have lost their permanent employment — have an opportunity to earn a little extra money by simply marketing what they have effectively become the expert in during their life’s working experiences.

Perhaps a senior citizen worked in the auto industry for many years and is now out of work. That senior citizen may have a wealth of information from mechanics to marketing that may very well have a market locally or even via the Internet.

The displaced senior citizen who was once employed in the financial industry may be able to refocus that knowledge in ways that would make the senior very valuable to a local retail or service company.

Within our economy, very little actually happens until someone “sells” something. That sale usually contributes to continued activity within all business and industry. A displaced senior citizen worker may be able to effectively re-tool his or her knowledge base of a specific industry into a marketing (sales) technique for a specific product or service.

For the senior citizen facing an unexpected or unwanted forced retirement, the future may look dismal … or delightful … depending on one’s personal outlook.

When or if a senior citizen finds him or herself in this type of life-changing intersection, the senior shouldn’t simply retire “from” something; they should have something to retire “to.”

That may take a little thought and planning.

But, the senior citizen who doesn’t want to participate in full retirement, either willingly or unwillingly, regardless of whether we call this period we’re experiencing a recession or a depression, will benefit from every ounce of effort put into thoughtfully planning for this new phase of their life.

Published July 31, 2009

© There is a “free” book available for senior citizens to read. Much of it tells the story of the typical senior citizen’s future health care. It’s hot off the press authored by your friends in the White House and the 111th Congress — 1st Session.

The book is called Health Reform Bill — H.R. 3200. The online version, available at:

energycommerce.house.gov/Press_111/20090714/aahca.pdf

The book contains 1,018 pages and is guaranteed to provide sleep aid for many nights of future reading.

However, one side-affect of reading this new book/bill before Congress will be the possibility of recurring nightmares.

Depending on the reader, some characterize the book as science fiction; some say that it’s nothing more than “R-Rated” horror; and some of the authors admit that even they haven’t read the final published version of the book — because it’s way too long and too complicated to read.

OK. Is it fiction or non-fiction? Even that has yet to be determined.

What is clear about the book/bill is that if implemented into law, the consequences will have dramatic affects on the health care of every United States senior citizen — even many illegal alien “citizens” will be affected — with “new” medical coverage!

This may be the time for most senior citizens to muster their political strength, read for themselves the “facts” as contained in this future “law” (the bill – H.R. 3200) if passed by Congress and signed into law by the President, and to “demand” their rights as a “paid up” legal citizen of this country who expects the medical care that they have paid for in advance and have historically been promised.

Very few members of the current Congress have placed themselves in harm’s way by serving in the United States military in order that our country could maintain the freedoms found within the writing of our Constitution. Even fewer members of the current residents and staff of the White House have so served their country.

By contrast, a large proportion of senior citizens and their families have provided generations of military service tradition to our country.

If you can’t get through this huge and difficult to read (I suspect that is by design) “health” bill, at least read the part that takes away much of the medical coverage “guaranteed” by the full faith and credit of our United States to those who fought and served in defense of our very right to exist as a country — our uniformed men and women who served in the United States military.

As a senior citizen, when you have finished digesting how this new law will affect your very existence, please contact your elected officials with your comments, suggestions … or even your “line in the sand” rage if you are upset by what is being proposed concerning your future health care — and the future health care of your children and grand-children.

This is no time for Congress or the President to be putting way too much plain “worry” on the plates of senior citizens. That said, there is no doubt in my mind that given no other choice, senior citizens will rise to the occasion to be heard in this health care matter.

When the dust has settled, those in Washington, D.C. who have let their authority go to their heads and have allowed their personal greed and lust for power to sway their decisions regarding health care for seniors and other matters, will ultimately pay the price of being removed from office — with the charge for removal being lead by knowledgeable, patriotic senior citizens who actually do understand the greatness of this country and its Constitution.

The Hijacking of America ©

During the 1960s, the phrase “Love it or leave it!” became popular referring specifically to those who would criticize the Viet Nam War and America’s involvement therein. Supporters of the country’s government at that time frequently made suggestions to their critics (both young and old) that they should either “love” their country or they should “leave” their country.

Some citizens did exactly that and moved in limited numbers into Canada and other countries—effectively becoming American citizen war protestors in exile. They did so to “protect” themselves and their families from the government’s harassment through local, state and federal law enforcement agencies, from the Internal Revenue Service, the Selective Service Boards as well as from other government domestic “spy” agencies.

That catchy phrase, “love it or leave it,” may once again be becoming not only popular, but practical as America’s legal citizens grapple with their personal devotion to the ideals of America’s founding fathers and the reality of the political coup which, for all practical matters, took place during the November 2008 Hijacking of America general election.

It now may become necessary to find safe havens abroad for political, religious, racial and even gender conservatives who have had their names added to liberal/socialistic/communistic/muslim/gay-rights “hate” lists because they were active in attempting to save our country’s Constitution and our American way of life.

The country may soon become entrenched in civil-type wars within various parts of the United States making living there very dangerous—especially for those who have already or will be listed as “government protestors.”

The freedoms that we legal Americans have enjoyed now for over 200 years may be destroyed nearly entirely within a very short period of time through the dictatorship of Obama and the capitulation of his liberal congressional followers.

Here is a short list of what is at stake if Obama and the current Congressional majority are allowed to continue destroying our country:

Freedom of speech will be stifled

Freedom of religion will be eliminated with the “state” religion being similar to that of a communist country—effectively, no religion. Obama may declare himself the “messenger” from God who must be obeyed. He may also declare the satanic so-called religion of islam’s muhammad (muslim) the only permitted religion of the country.

Freedom to own property will be eliminated with only the government and government “officials” allowed to own private property.

All guns will be collected from the legal citizens of the country.

All white men will be tried and/or simply executed for alleged crimes against minorities.

Christians will be made slaves to the muslims.

Christian and Jewish families will be separated.

Religious congregations will be divided and separated.

Business ownership will only be allowed for the ruling class of muslims and the government elite.

The currency of the country will be declared worthless. Muslim currency will be used in its place.

Food rationing for non-believers (non-muslims) will become necessary only for those under 60 years of age and able to perform physical labor. All others will be allowed to starve to death.

The Internet will be eliminated together with all known libraries.

Homosexuals will be allowed to control local police agencies and schools.

Prisons will be released of all of their prisoners regardless of their crimes and allowed to roam the streets.

Travel, except for government and muslim officials will be stopped.

Fuel will be strictly rationed.

The military will be disbanded and all property and equipment owned by the military will be turned over to muslim leadership control.

Later, known churches will be confiscated and burned.

The handicapped will not be allowed to live.

Hospitals will be closed except for only the government and muslim elite.

Public-square tortures for so-called criminals will be required viewing by all legal non-muslim citizens.

Opposite sex marriages will not be permitted.

The press (news agencies) will be closed except for the government’s and Islamic press agencies.

This is only the beginning of the list of atrocities planned for America’s legal citizens if Obama and his Congressional henchmen are permitted to continue their illegal rule of America. The super rich elite throughout the world are in support of everything on this list because it will ultimately lower the population of the world quickly—which is one of their primary goals!

From The Desk Of Gary G. Kreep Barack Hussein Obama is out to socialize our health care system

From The Desk Of Gary G. Kreep

Barack Hussein Obama is out to socialize our health care system — in reality, he’s going to destroy it.

In fact, Mr. Obama and his allies want you to be fined if you do not agree to comply with their socialized health care plan requirements — treating you like a criminal.

And, in all of this, he has the help of a very powerful, very liberal, United States Senator.

That powerful Senator has tried for many years to force socialized medicine on this country. The Washington Postcalled it his “career-long goal” to “establish universal health care.” And, with the purported election of Barack Obama as President, he sees his chance to finally get his wish.

There’s just one problem: this Senator who wants to force every one of us into his “health care” system, or be treated like a criminal… is a criminal himself, who has never been punished for his deadly crime.

That man’s name is Ted Kennedy.

Isn’t it time to force his crime into the light of day — before he is able to force all of us into his system of socialized medicine, on threat of being fined if we refuse? What do you want his legacy to be — destroying the American health care system, and being famous for buying his way out of prosecution for the death of a young woman–or being held accountable for his actions?

HELP US FORCE ATTENTION ON TED KENNEDY’S CRIMES –
BEFORE HE DESTROYS AMERICAN HEALTH CARE!
https://secure.conservativedonations.com/usjf_chappa/?a=2693

On July 19, 1969, Ted Kennedy attended a party on Chappaquiddick Island in Massachusetts. Half the guests were married men, half were single women in their 20s. He later claimed that, at about 11:00 PM, he borrowed his chauffeur’s keys to his Oldsmobile limousine, and offered to give a ride to the island’s ferry to Mary Jo Kopechne, a campaign worker, in order to return her to her motel.

But Miss Kopechne didn’t take her purse or her room key — and they didn’t go to the ferry. Ted Kennedy headed in the opposite direction — to Dike Bridge and the secluded beach beyond. Their car went off the bridge, flipped, and landed in Poucha Pond. Senator Kennedy claims that he repeatedly dove under the water trying to rescue Miss Kopechne. He swam to shore and walked back to the party — passing four houses and a fire station, from each of which he could have telephoned and summoned help. The first of those houses was only 150 yards away from the bridge, and was occupied by Sylvia Malm and her family; Mrs. Malm later stated that she had left a light on at the residence when she retired for that evening. Two friends returned with Kennedy to the scene of the accident. According to their later testimony, they told him what he already knew, that he was required by law to immediately report the accident to the authorities. Instead, Kennedy made his way to his hotel, called his lawyer, and went to sleep. By 7:30 am, the next morning, he was talking “casually” to the winner of the previous day’s sailing race, with no indication that anything was amiss.

That morning, Senator Kennedy went back to Chappaquiddick, made a series of phone calls from a payphone by the crossing to his friends for advice — and STILL didn’t report the accident to authorities. By then, the wreck had already been discovered. Before dying, Miss Kopechne had scratched at the upholstered floor above her head in the upside-down car. Her body was pressed up in the car in the spot where an air bubble would have formed — meaning that Mary Jo Kopechne had survived for a while after the initial accident in the air bubble. The diver who discovered her body concluded that, “Had I received a call within five to ten minutes of the accident occurring, and was able, as I was the following morning, to be at the victim’s side within twenty-five minutes of receiving the call, in such event there is a strong possibility that she would have been alive on removal from the submerged car.”

The Kennedy family IMMEDIATELY began “pulling strings,” insuring that any inquiry into the Senator’s actions would be “contained”. Within hours of Miss Kopechne’s death, a Kennedy aide named Dun Gifford flew a chartered plane into Edgartown (the Martha’s Vineyard town of which Chappaquiddick is a part), with orders to get the body off the island. Before Massachusetts officials had even decided whether to perform an autopsy to settle the cause of death, Miss Kopechne’s remains were in Pennsylvania — beyond the state’s jurisdiction.

Seantor Kennedy pled guilty to leaving the scene of an accident, and was given a suspended sentence of two months. Miss Kopechne’s family received a small payout from the Kennedy’s insurance policy, and never sued. There was later an effort to have her body exhumed and autopsied, but her family successfully fought against this in court, and Senator Kennedy’s family paid their attorney’s bills. A secret inquest into Miss Kopechne’s death took place in January, 1970. As a result, Judge James A. Boyle found “probable cause” that Kennedy had driven “negligently” and had engaged in “criminal conduct” that “contributed to the death of Mary Jo Kopechne.” He could have issued a warrant for his arrest, but he did not do so. District Attorney Dinis chose not to pursue Ted Kennedy on manslaughter charges, despite Judge Boyle’s conclusions. The Senator was never prosecuted and never tried for his real crimes.

Ted Kennedy got away with killing Mary Jo Kopechne — now it’s up to US to STOP him from getting away with forcing all Americans to adopt socialized medicine, under threat of being treated like criminals if we do not comply with the plan’s requirements.

We have a plan to do exactly that — but we need YOUR help to implement that plan!

HELP US FORCE ATTENTION ON TED KENNEDY’S CRIMES –

In 1969, Ted Kennedy was responsible for the death of Mary Jo Kopechne. He got away with it.

In 1989 — twenty years later — I went to the Dyke Bridge on Chappaquiddick Island, climbed over a barricade, and laid a wreath of flowers on the waters of Poucha Pond… in memory of Mary Jo Kopechne, and the that life she should have led.

In 1994, on the 25th anniversary of the Kennedy wreck, I went back again, this time affixing a wreath to one of the posts holding the fence that blocked passage over the bridge. I garnered as much press as was possible at that time — I didn’t want this horrible crime to be forgotten, just because the perpetrator was a powerful Senator.

In just a few days, on July 19th, it will be the 40th anniversary of the death of Mary Jo Kopechne at the hands of Ted Kennedy… and this time, I want to make SURE that NO ONE has forgotten what he did.

Ted Kennedy wants the world to remember him… but he wants us all to remember him for bringing “universal health care” to America, and NOT for bringing an early death to a beautiful young woman. It’s up to YOU AND ME to make sure that doesn’t happen.

That’s why the United States Justice Foundation is going back to Chappaquiddick — but we can’t get the media to pay any attention at all, without YOUR help!

It had fallen into disrepair over time, and there were rumors that the Kennedys tried to have the bridge torn down so that it couldn’t be a visual reminder of what Ted Kennedy had done… but you can go to Google Maps rightnow, and see the exact spot where Ted Kennedy killed Mary Jo Kopechne. It’s still there — and we need to focus the country’s attention on it again.

We’re going to go back to the scene of the crime! More than likely, there will be people there trying to stop us, but we’re going to place a new wreath there, in memory of that tragic event. We’re going to place ads, do radio interviews from the scene, and publicize everything that happened that night, so that everyone can remember, once again.

But we can only do this with your help! With your financial support, and with the financial support of everyone that you know!

Please, help us to keep Mary Jo Kopechne’s memory alive — even though Ted Kennedy did nothing to keep Miss Kopechne herself alive, forty years ago this month.

Gary Kreep, Executive Director
United States Justice Foundation

P.S. In 1973, at the height of Nixon’s Watergate scandal, Ted Kennedy thundered from the Senate floor, “Do we operate under a system of equal justice under law? Or is there one system for the average citizen and another for the high and mighty?”

Ironically, THAT is the question that we need to be asking RIGHT NOW — in more ways than one.

Is there equal justice under law — or can a privileged Senator from a wealthy family get away with killing a young woman?

Is there one health system for the average citizen, and another for the “high and mighty” — like Ted Kennedy?

Will Ted Kennedy and his family be fined if they do not comply with the socialized medicine plan requirements, or will they be exempt from the law, just like “Teddy” was exempt from prosecution for what really happened to Mary Jo Kopechne?

Senator Ted Kennedy wants his legacy to be forcing America to institute socialized health care. WE want people to remember the death that he caused 40 years ago.
