Alla prima semitappa il bresciano di Provaglio d’Iseo, portacolori della Diquigiovanni Serramenti Androni Giocattoli, festeggia la sua decima vittoria stagionale e commenta: «Vincere davanti ad un fuoriclasse del calibro di Petacchi raddoppia il prestigio del successo. Da buon bresciano, considero da sempre il Brixia Tour un appuntamento significativo. Esserci arrivato in condizione fisica ottimale, mi ha consentito di affrontare la corsa da subito con il piglio giusto».
Per Petacchi c’è il rammarico per uno sprint lanciato troppo presto, ma comunque la soddisfazione di rientrare alle corse.
Partiti ad Orzinuovi dalla sede della Piemonti Costruzioni, sponsor della manifestazione, con il plotoncino dei piccoli atleti del Pedale Orceano a fare da apripista, la fuga di Ermanno Capelli, bergamasco della Fuji Servetto, ha vivacizzato subito la partenza scattando al chilometro 13 e raggiungendo il vantaggio massimo di oltre 7 minuti, azione, però, neutralizzata a 10 chilometri dal traguardo.

Ore 9,45 al via alcuni big del ciclismo internazionale: Danilo Di Luca, Alessandro Petacchi, Stefano Garzelli, Damiano Cunego, Luca Paolini, Giovani Visconti, Hernandez Soler, Felix Rafael Ravelo Cardenas, Ruslan Pidgorny e il vincitore della edizione 2008 Santo Anzà.

Il primo traguardo della nona edizione della corsa del Team Brixia è fissato a Orzinuovi, la prima delle due semitappe dove lo scorso anno trionfò Danilo Napolitano davanti a Mattia Gavazzi. Stavolta i corridori si contenderanno il successo dopo tre giri di un circuito che si sviluppa interamente nella Bassa occidentale. I chilometri: 117,600. I favoriti: Alessandro Petacchi e Mattia Gavazzi.

Ore 16,30 partenza della seconda semitappa della giornata. Si correranno 86,300 chilometri lungo la Prevalle-Mezzane di Villanuova. Percorso per passisti-scalatori e passisti abituati a spingere il rapporto lungo anche sulle salite brevi, come quella del finale di oggi. Il via dalla Delio Gallina in via Gardesana a Prevalle per poi dirigersi verso Mezzane, dove i corridori si affronteranno su un circuito ricavato tra Prevalle e le località limitrofe da percorrere quattro volte. 
Prevalle è ha sempre amato il ciclismo e, infatti, dal secondo dopoguerra hanno trovato terreno fertile Classic Valvola Bonomi; Prevalle Gallina e Gas, gruppi sportivi dai quali sono usciti corridori di valore.
Oggi per la prima volta il Brixia Tour rende omaggio a Prevalle e alla sua gente. Lasciata Prevalle i concorrenti raggiungeranno Mezzane attraverso Gavardo. Da Ponte Pier in poi la corsa sarà più dura con un’ascesa finale con tratti non lunghissimi ma con una certa pendenza.
I favoriti: Pidgorny per le caratteristiche del percorso che ben si sposa con le sue qualità.

A meno di una settimana dal via, tutto è pronto per la nona edizione del Brixia Tour, gara a tappe per professionisti in programma dal 22 al 26 luglio 2009.

Un appuntamento atteso da tutti gli amanti del ciclismo e che quest’anno vedrà la partecipazione di un autentico parterre de roi. Il poker LPR composto da Di Luca, Petacchi, Bosisio e Ongarato, ma anche big provenienti da altre squadre come Cunego, Garzelli, Paolini, Andrea e Francesco Masciarelli, Visconti, Soler, Cardenas e Niemec.

Sono solo alcuni nomi tra i campioni delle due ruote che si daranno battaglia in questi intensi cinque giorni di gara attraverso percorsi davvero spettacolari. La prima semitappa della giornata inaugurale di gara, mercoledì 22, sarà come le scorse edizioni, a Orzinuovi; così come è confermata anche la partenza della seconda tappa, giovedì 23, da Buffalora. La terza frazione riproporrà l’ormai tradizionale arrivo a Borno, mentre la tappa-clou sarà come di consueto quella di sabato 25 con l’arrivo ai 1.800 metri del Passo Maniva con gran finale, domenica 26, sullo storico traguardo di Darfo Boario Terme.

Stage 13 Lido di Camaiore-Firenze (176 km)

The endless challenge between the two best sprinter in the world, Cavendish and Petacchi, finished 3-2. The rider of Columbia-High Road achieved the third win at Centenary Giro, defeating our Ale-jet in the sprint of Firenze. A defeat that saddens us, above all because we know that if Alessandro would have had strong men steering him towards the finish, such as the riders of Cavendish’s team, it will be easier for him. Columbia has been made up in particular for sprints, instead in this Giro our team works also for general classification.

I hope that know people don’t say that the English rider is faster than Petacchi, because seen the circumstances, I think that Ale rode a great sprint and if only he would have stayed at the wheel of Cavendish, he could even defeat him. As expected, after this plain stage the general classification doesn’t change and the pink jersey belongs again to Menchov. But tomorrow the Russian rider of Rabobank would be in trouble in keeping it…why? Simple, as I told you – and it isn’t a play on words – the finish of San Luca is fit for Di Luca, who what’s more has already achieved it last year at Giro of Emilia. It would not be easy, but if he arrives in the first positions, he will gain bonus, that would be decisive. We begin being tired, but the Giro lives now its best moment and it can give us still many gratifications.

Rytterne er godt og vel halvvejs gennem årets Giro d’Italia, og en lille mellemregning er vel på sin plads. Hvad er der sket så langt?

Tre reelle bjergetaper, et par hårde mellemetaper, fire sprinterafgørelser, en holdtidskørsel og – i dag – den famøse enkeltstart. Det er hvad menuen har stået på indtil videre.

Denis Menchov vandt dagens solodyst foran Levi Leipheimer og Stefano Garzelli, og det førte frem til følgende stilling:

Klassementet

Og hvad kan man så lære af det? Jo, Denis Menchov mener det her alvorligt. Han er åbenlyst ikke kommet til Italien (kun) for at køre sig i form til Tour de France, og det klæder både ham og løbet virkelig godt. Hans spurtsejr på Alpe di Siusi (5. etape) var overlegen, hvilket den må være når selv ikke en punchy bjergafslutter som Danilo Di Luca kunne følge ham. På den foregående bjergetape sørgede han for bare at følge med uden tidstab, og på den lumske afslutning i Pinerolo i tirsdags  (10. etape) var han årvågen og fulgte med da Di Luca angreb på nedkørslen fra sidste stigning. Han kunne ikke følge den iltre italiener helt til dørs, men han var der. Gevinsten på dagens hårde enkeltstart var ganske overbevisende, og blev etableret på fremragende kørsel opad.  Nu skal den lyserøde førertrøje forsvares, og det kan blive lidt af en opgave – vi må håbe hans højre hånd, Laurens Ten Dam, er klar til at påtage sig ansvaret.

Danilo Di Luca ligner en mand i 2007-form, og er han det, så kan han sagtens vise sig at hive sejren hjem ligesom ved den lejlighed. Der resterer fortsat fire etaper med afslutning opad, og det er potentielt fire etaper med hver 20 bonussekunder i vente for ‘The Killer’. Allerede lørdagens etape til Bologna (14. etape) ligner en foræring til Di Luca, med den to km korte, 10%-stigning til, ja San Luca, for at det ikke skal være løgn. Hvis feltet formår at kontrollere udbryderne, så er det svært at se hvem der skal kunne true ham her. Med den på papiret mest oplagte udfordrer til sådan en afslutning, Joaquin Rodriguez, ude af løbet, er det vist kun Stefano Garzelli der besidder lidt af det samme punch på sådan en bakke. Damiano Cunego i Giro di Lombardia-form ville også kunne være med her, men der er desværre intet der tyder på, at den variant af ‘Il Piccolo Principe’ er tilstede. Med yderligere tre bjergafslutninger, og den defensiv en stor del af de øvrige klassementfavoritter foreløbig har lagt for dagen, kunne Di Luca meget vel snuppe hele menageriet på bonussekunder.

Levi Leipheimer ligner sig selv. Der er ikke de store udfald i hans præstationer, og han kører sit eget superstabile løb. Det er svært for alvor at se ham sætte de øvrige konkurrenter, men han har dog et ret stærkt hold, der kan presse Menchov og Di Luca og dermed isolere dem. Hans problem er dog de evindelige bonussekunder, for hvis han kommer til mål med de to ovennævnte og for eksempel Franco Pellizotti, så vil han miste mange dyrebare sekunder på den konto. Han har en enkelstart mere, nemlig på sidste etape i Rom, men den er blot 14 kilometer kort. Er det distance nok til at han kan hente, hvad han eventuelt måtte miste i bonussekunder? Det kan blive en interessant magtkamp mellem LPR og Astana, for LPR må have al interesse i at forhindre udbrud i at køre hjem, så Di Luca kan score ‘billige’ sekunder, mens Astana måske kunne spekulere i, at lade udbrydere køre væk og dermed få de famøse bonussekunder annulleret.

Franco Pellizotti ser foreløbig ud til at have vundet den interne duel på Liquigas, for ganske vist tabte han tid på Alpe di Siusi, men han vandt en del af den tilbage via årvågen kørsel i finalen i Pinerolo. Efter dagens glimrende enkeltstart ligger han nu nummer fire, nøjagtigt et minut foran Ivan Basso. Basso har været det store spørgsmålstegn, for hvad er han egentlig i stand til efter sin tilbagekomst? En Basso årgang 2006 ville formentlig allerede på nuværende tidspunkt have kørt sine modstandere i sænk, men Basso 2009 minder altså langt mere om 2003/04-versionen. Han sætter tempo i bjergene, men kan ikke knuse konkurrenterne som han gjorde i 2006, i en sådan grad at man som seer blev næsten skidt til mode. Han forsvarede sig fornuftigt på dagens enkeltstart, og kunne bestemt være sin indsats bekendt. Men allerede nu er han altså tre minutter efter Menchov, og omkring 2½ efter Di Luca og Leipheimer. Det er svært at se hvor han skal hente den tid. 16. etape til Monte Petrano – med tre halvlange og stejle bjerge inden for de sidste 100 kilometer – ligner det eneste sted, hvor sejtrækkeren Basso for alvor vil kunne gøre en forskel. Den sprælske, men også noget mere ujævne Pellizotti kan være åbningen her, for med sine kvikke accelerationer kan han måske bringe nogle af de foranliggende i problemer. Desværre, dog, vil han nok også skabe vanskeligheder for sig selv på den måde. Spændende hvordan Liquigas vil forsøge at lirke den lås op.

Carlos Sastre er, ligesom Denis Menchov, en rytter, der tilsyneladende er kommet til Italien for at gøre noget. Han har kørt meget Sastre’sk indtil videre – ganske diskret – og på de første bjerge lignede han hele tiden en mand på grænsen af sin formåen. Men han blev ved med at hænge på, ligegyldigt hvor mange der faldt bagud, og på tirsdagens etape til Pinerolo virkede han uhyre veloplagt, og var sammen med Pellizotti og Menchov den eneste der kunne følge Di Luca i dennes hidsige kørsel mod mål. Sastre kørte en glimrende enkeltstart i dag, og ligger nu nummer fem. Ligesom med Basso er det dog vanskeligt at se, hvor han skal kunne hente tid på de foranliggende – måske er en ’sammensværgelse’ med forhenværende holdkammerat Basso på den knaldhårde Monte Petrano-etape vejen frem?

Sprinterne

Spurtduellerne, de fire der hidtil har været, har som ventet været en dyst mellem Alessandro Petacchi og Mark Cavendish. 2-2 står den foreløbig, for Petacchi lagde hårdt ud med snu kørsel og vandt anden og tredie etape, inden Cavendish slog igen ved at vinde den niende og 11. De to får en ny chance i morgen, når feltet skal til Firenze, og umiddelbart peger formbarometeret nok mest opad for Cavendish. Det virker ikke sandsynligt at andre end de to vil kunne vinde en massespurt, for selv om både Tyler Farrar og Allan Davis har vist sig fra deres bedste side, så lader det til at de befinder sig på et lidt lavere niveau. Og begge ville nok også have glæde af en mere bulet afslutning end den der venter i morgen.

Løst og fast

Og til notitserne: Edvald Boasson Hagen er et monster. Det vidste de fleste selvfølgelig godt i forvejen, men det er blevet yderligere bekræftet i den italienske rundtur. Den norske wonder boy har allerede en etapesejr og to andenpladser på mellemetaper (foruden gevinsten i den indledende holdkørsel), og han har vist sig ganske holdbar opad på en del etaper. I dag blev han nummer 24 på enkeltstarten, og han kan slå de fleste i en spurt.  Det er ved at være svært at se hvilken type løb han ikke vil være i stand til at dominere de næste mange år. Han er kun lige fyldt 22 år, goddamnit!

Lance Armstrong fylder meget. Det har været et irritationsmoment den første 1½ uge, men nu er han så småt ved at blive interessant. Han er tydeligvis på vej i form, og specielt hans kørsel på den underholdende Pinerolo-etape var ganske imponerende. Kan han virkelig blive en seriøs kombattant, når scenen skifter til det franske om 1½ måneds tid? Jeg vil ikke afvise det.

Bergamo burde være på Giro-kortet hvert år. I 2007 bød den luskede og kringlede afslutning her på fremragende cykelløb og dette gentog sig forleden, da Kanstantsin Siutsou vandt efter blændende solokørsel. Når nu bjergetaperne har været småkedelige, så er det rart med sådan en etape, der kan skabe splid helt oppe i toppen af klassementet, fordi den er så lumsk.

Yesterday’s stage had something of the calm before the storm about it. A relatively flat run in to Arenzano, it was one for the sprinters and the overall contenders were keeping their powder dry for today’s time trial. Once again, Columbia were in the driving seat at the business end of the stage, attempting to prime another win for Mark Cavendish. Once again, Petacchi rode on Cavendish’s wheel. Yet for the second sprint stage running, Petacchi was muscled off this prime spot, first by Quick Step’s Allan Davis and then by the Americna Tyler Farrar. To me it looks like Petacchi’s rivals have realised that he isn’t the most assertive rider in the bunch. With his LPR team devoted to protecting race leader Danilo Di Luca, he may not get much in the way of help.

Meanwhile today’s stage is probably one of the most hotly anticipated time trials in recent years. 60 kilometres in length, with two significant climbs and lots of twisting road, it’s anybody’s guess what could happen. American Levi Leipheimer is the favourite, but given the nature of the course, the results could spring some surprises.

Cosa c’è di bello nel tifare degli omini in tutina aderente su una bicicletta esile che si ammazzano di fatica per arrampicarsi su tornanti di montagna? Naturalmente la frase è retorica e agli appassionati del ciclismo crea un certo fastidio come al tifoso di calcio offenderebbe essere considerato l’adoratore di giovinastri in pantaloncini corti che corrono tirando calci ad un pallone.
Un aspetto del ciclismo che mi ha sempre colpito è la passione che c’è in Italia per questo sport, soprattutto al centro-nord e mi colpisce perché io non riesco assolutamente ad appassionarmi nemmeno facendo forza su me stesso a seguire una tappa del Giro d’Italia in TV.
Una cosa però l’apprezzo molto: il nostro Paese è stupendo e il giro d’Italia è un occasione privilegiata per ammirarlo nelle sue città più belle e nella natura che le circonda. Peccato che a fronte di tale spettacolo ci sia sempre lo spettro (a dire il vero molto poco spettro e molto reale) del doping del quale non parlerò, anche perché se ne parla già abbastanza.

Yesterday’s stage in Milan was to be something of a departure from the norm for the Giro, a 165 kilometre criterium around the streets of Milan. However, the day turned into something of a damp squib, as a rider protest saw the stage largely neutralised.

Rider power has been a feature of the sport since the 1960’s and races have been disrupted over issues ranging from safety concerns to drug testing. Trouble at this year’s Giro had been brewing for a number of days, with Lance Armstrong publicly complaining about the high speed descents in the rain. Well before yesterday’s stage, Barloworld’s sprinter Robbie Hunter wondered if a 165 kilometre crit was really necessary, arguing that a 100 kilometre affair would be just as entertaining. Pedro Horillo’s horrific crash on Saturday, in which the Rabobank rider came off the road and fell down a ravine, also no doubt focussed some minds on safety.

Yesterday’s protest appears to have been orchestrated by Armstrong, Di Luca and Columbia’s Mick Rogers. The eventual agreement with the organisers was that the peloton would ride most of the course at a relaxed tempo and only contest the finale of the race. Times would not count toward the general classification, meaning that the race was for the stage win only.

TV viewers may have wondered at what the riders were so concerned about, since judging by the pictures, the parcours appeared perfectly safe. However both Rogers and Hunter both explained afterwards that there were parked cars on the course, traffic bollards and, probably most worrying, parallel tram tracks.

When the race finally did get going, it once again came down to a duel between Mark Cavendish and Alessandro Petacchi, with Garmin’s Tyler Farrar trying to crash the party. Cavendish’s Columbia team had the bunch strung out on the closing kilometres and the Manxman was perfectly positioned at the rear of his lead out train. Farrar’s team mates then upped the pace even more, with Bradley Wiggins and David Millar taking some massive pulls at the front. Petacchi meanwhile was playing a now familiar game of sitting on Cavendish’s wheel. However, this time around the Italian lost his position as Allan Davis, Matt Goss and Farrar all began bumping shoulders to squeeze into the Columbia slipstream. The cautious Italian slipped backwards and was unable to accelerate up to Cavendish when the latter made his move. Cavendish’s sprint was perfect in execution and although Davis and Goss tried to go with him, neither got remotely close.

Etapa a noua din Turul Italiei este un tribut adus orasului Milano, locul unde se termina, in mod traditional, Giro. Anul acesta Il Giro d’Italia se va incheia pe strazile Romei. Astfel, cea de a noua etapa este, de fapt, un circuit prin orasul MIlano care se va parcurge de noua ori. Startul si sosirea etapei va fi in Piazza Duomo unde se afla celebrul dom din Milano. Fiind un circuit printr-un oras de campie, etapa a noua nu are absolut nicio dificultate de parcurs. Intregul traseu este un plat pur. In aceste conditii este extrem de clar ca aceasta etapa le surade din plin sprinterilor, dintre care favoriti sunt Alessandro Petacchi si Mark Cavendish.

Update: Mark Cavendish si-a adjudecat etapa a noua a Turului Italiei disputata pe strazile din Milano, confirmand, astfel, forma sa excelenta, dar si a echipei Columbia High Road.

Scantei in Turul Italiei

Etapa a noua din Turul Italiei a fost umbrita de un portest al ciclistilor care au decis sa parcurga primele 5 ture ale circuitului din MIlano cu o viteza medie de 33,5 km/h, o viteza extrem de accesibila chiar si pentru amatorii care se urca pe o bicicleta de curse. Plutonul s-a oprit cand au ajuns pentru a treia oara la linia de sosire si Danilo DI Luca, purtatorul tricoului roz, a vorbit in numele tuturor ciclistilor, informand publicul ca plutonul va merge foarte incet datorita parcursului “extrem de periculos”. Aceasta atitudine a iritat abundent pasionatii de ciclism care s-au adunat pe strazile din Milano pentru a urmari spectacolul sportiv.

Pregatirea prostestului

Pe fondul unei participari emotive la cazatura de ieri a lui Pedro Horillo, ciclistii au intrat in aceasta etapa extrem de neincrezatori, vazand la fiecare pas numai pericole. In pofida faptului ca Turul Italiei trece mai mereu prin MIlano, rutierii au vazut in orice gropita, in orice insula de dirijare a traficului si in sinele de tramvai un real pericol pentru viata lor. Astfel s-a cerut, inca de la inceputul etapei, neutralizarea cursei, ceea ce inseamna ca toti cilistii ar fi fost cronometrati cu acelasi timp la sosire, chiar daca aveau sa ajunga cu 15 minute intarziere. Organizatorii au fost de acord cu aceasta cerinta a plutonului, exprimata prin vocea aceluiasi Danilo Di Luca, si au decis neutralizarea etapei.

Ciclistii nu s-au multumit, insa, doar cu atat. Astfel au hotarat intre ei sa ruleze la o viteza foarte scazuta, vehiculandu-se chiar ideea ca sprintul sa nu se dispute. Astfel, cand plutonul a taiat pentru a treia oara linia de sosire, rutierii s-au oprit, Di Luca a primit un mircorfon si a anuntat decizia comuna a rutierilor, spre uimirea publicului, a organizatorilor si chiar a conducatorilor lor de echipa, care nu stiusera absolut nimic despre aceasta decizie.

Lucrurile au degenerat. Criticile nu au incetat sa apara. Totul parea inadmisibil pentru toata lumea, doar pentru ciclisti nu. Un moment importat s-a consumat atunci cand sponsorul echipei Lampre s-a hotarat sa ia pozitie fata de acest protest inopinat. Aflandu-se in masina tehnica a echipe Lampre, l-a chemat pe capitanul echipei Damiano Cunego pentru a-i explica foarte nervos ca gestul lor este neprofesional si inadmisibil, o adevarata palma data spectatorilor si Turului in sine. Imediat echipa Lampre a luat in mana fraiele plutonului si viteza de rulare a crescut. Pe ultimul tur de circuit, viteza plutonului a fost de 52 km/h,  cu 20 de km/h mai mare decat cea din prima parte a cursei.

Sprintul final a avut loc, fiind castigat in mod foarte frumos de Mark Cavendish, care a fost purtat realmente spre victorie de alti doi coechipieri, printre care norvegianul Boassom Hagen. Astfel, englezul a mai salvat ce s-a putut salva.

Din pacate, se pare ca unul dintre ciclistii care a incitat cel mai mult spre aceasta masura de prostest inedita pentru ciclismul profesionist a fost chiar americanul Lance Armstrong, septuplu castigator al Turului Frantei, cei de la care toata lumea se astepta sa fie un profesionist desavarsit. Armstrong s-a lasat condus, mai de graba, de ifosele unei vedere rock decat de seriozitatea unui ciclist profesionist, facand adevarate ture intre fruntea si coada plutonului pentru a sta de vorba cu toti ciclistii. De foarte multe ori a stat de vorba cu Di Luca sau cu cei din organizarea Turului care se aflau, pe motocilete sau in masini, alaturi de ciclisti. Cand Di Luca a luat microfonul pentru a protesta, Armstrong ii era alaturi si parea foarte multumit. Atunci cand membrii echipei Lampre au luat in mana fraiele plutonului, sub presiunea sponsorului sau, Armstrong a mers de mai multe ori in fruntea plutonului pentru a incerca sa reduca viteza de rulare. In cele din urma, stiind ca etapa a fost declarata neutra, Armstrong a continuat sa-si mentina viteza de 35 km/h, ramanand cu mul tin urma plutonului si sfidand astfel traditia centenara a Giro d’Italia. A refuzat sa dea declaratii presei, plecand cat mai repede spre hotel. Multi jurnalisti sustin ca Armstrong ar putea abandona Giro d’Italia, fie de buna voie, fie sub sanctiunea directorului general al Turului.

Declaratii la sfarsit de etapa

Interviurile de la sfarsitul etapei au fost asteptate cu sufletul la gura de toti iubitorii ciclismului. Totii directorii generali ai echipelor participante s-au declarat perplecsi in fata unui astfel de protest, declarand ca o dezaproba cu hotarare si ca vor da de stire acest lucru ciclistilor pe care ii au in subordine.

Mark Cavendish a declarat ca pentru el nu se putea pune problema sa nu dispute sprintul final, caci isi dorea foarte mult o victorie de etapa, pentru a-si lua revansa fata de Alessandor Petacchi. Cavendish a declarat ca forma de protest i s-a parut putin exagerata. Nici Filippo Pozzatto nu dovedit a fi favorabil acestei forme de protest, declarand ca este destul de ciudata. In acelasi timp, Damiano Cunego a refuzat sa spuna ceva referitor la aceasta problema, temandu-se ca nu cumva cuvintele lui sa fie rastalmacite de catre jurnalisti. Danilo Di Luca nu a incercat sa faca altceva decat sa justifice protestul ciclistilor, invocand periculozitatea parcursului.

Dupa 100 de ani de existenta, Turul Italiei si-a consemnat astfel prima greva generala din istorie. Pentru cei care si-au justificat acest protest recurgand la cazatura spaniolului Pedro Horillo pe o coborare din cadrul etapei cu finalul la Bergamo, nu isi dau seama ca modul eminent prin care ii puteau fi alaturi colegului lor ar fi fost tocmai acela de a disputa o etapa ca niste veritabili profesionisti. Prin acest protest nu au facut altceva decat sa-i faca rau lui Horillo, caci au stirbit imaginea ciclismului profesionist, oricum destul de sifonata din cauza scandalurilor de dopaj, ciclism din care si Horillo face parte, chiar daca se afla momentan pe un pat de spital cu fracturi multiple pe tot corpul sau.

Qui tutto parla, inevitabilmente spesso straparla, di prosecco. Le bollicine divine producono inevitabili effetti sulle personalità più fragili, ma anche sulle più resistenti. Persino sugli astemi. Perché l’effluvio di questo nettare è diffuso nell’aria. Forse è meglio prendere appunti veloci, perché dopo tanti brindisi la giornata si presenta ordinata come un puzzle appena caduto sul pavimento.
Allora: se non ricordo male, c’è il bis di Petacchi, cioè la conferma che Petacchi è di nuovo il primo velocista al mondo. La rivincita di Trieste, dove già aveva infilzato il giovane Cavendish, in questo caso non c’è, perché il ragazzino stavolta resta attardato dopo una caduta di gruppo a dieci chilometri dall’arrivo. Parentesi: può succedere, ma succede più spesso a chi non corre davanti. Guarda caso, Petacchi corre sempre in testa, anche in salita, per cui alla fine gli è facile strappare al giovane sia la tappa che la maglia rosa. Cin cin Petacchi. Hep.
Che altro? Con questo Petacchi in più nella sua storia, adesso il Giro va in montagna. Sempre se non ricordo male. Subito salita alla quarta tappa, come non è mai successo. Stavolta succederà per via di questa scelta stranissima, che vuole celebrare in modo eccentrico il Centenario. Saranno due giorni di mezze Dolomiti, in senso ciclistico: prima San Martino di Castrozza, poi Alpe di Siusi. È meglio che la gente non si aspetti granché. I più forti dovranno essere tutti lì: se qualcuno non ci sarà, faremo bene a non considerarlo così forte.
Caro diario, la verità è che ci stanno confezionando un grande pacco. Rosa, molto infiocchettato, ben pubblicizzato: ma pacco resta. È il Giro più storico ed è il Giro meno montagnoso di sempre. Già erano poche sulla carta, le mitiche cime, adesso che poi la neve ha fatto sparire anche l’Izoard e il Blockhaus, sono praticamente inesistenti. Anche sotto gli effetti celestiali del Prosecco, non riusciranno a farci credere che quelli di San Martino di Castrozza e dell’Alpe di Siusi siano tapponi. Mi rifiuto di scriverlo, questo vocabolo: non voglio profanare le tue pagine, così dense di tapponi veri, quando davvero li facevano.
E già che ci sono, perché in vino veritas, la dico fino in fondo: per me il Giro dei cent’anni non si deciderà in montagna. Ma al mare. Precisamente quello ligure, alla dodicesima tappa. Quel giorno, gli stessi organizzatori dal braccino corto con le montagne, propongono una colossale cronometro di sessantadue chilometri alle Cinque Terre. Fai un po’ tu. Sulle ridicole montagne rimaste (siamo al punto che ci presentano il Vesuvio, penultima tappa, come un mezzo Mortirolo), i big si infliggeranno al massimo qualche manciata di secondi. In quella cronometro, i distacchi si peseranno a chili. Perché, tutto questo? Io una risposta ufficiale non l’ho. Ma se dico che un Giro così è perfetto per Armstrong, nessuno può darmi dell’ubriaco. Neppure a Valdobbiadene.
Caro diario, questo americano sta scatenando moltitudini di popolo e ottimi incassi pubblicitari. Invitarlo qui è sicuramente una scelta grandiosa. Per farcelo venire, andava invogliato. Mi pare però si sia un po’ esagerato: oltre alla passatoia rossa, gli hanno concesso autista, limousine e pure il centro benessere. Mi consola soltanto una sensazione: non mi sembra che lui sia poi così in grado di mettersi in tasca il Giro su misura. Non so, forse sono un po’ annebbiato per ovvi motivi, ma questo Armstrong di ritorno mi sembra lontano parente, un cugino in seconda, dell’Armstrong che ho visto per sette anni consecutivi vincere il Tour. Più grosso, più goffo. Ovviamente, più vecchio. Lo ripeto: è solo una sensazione. Ha sempre la stessa grinta, la stessa personalità, guarda caso è già il primo dei favoriti. Ma non riesco comunque a vederlo bene come lo stanno vedendo gli espertissimi del Giro. «Attenzione, non fa il turista», avvertono entusiasti sulla Gazzetta. Lui non lo fa, ma loro hanno fatto di tutto per farglielo fare. A spese dei suoi avversari. Cin cin. Hep.

Doping, doping e ancora doping. Del ciclismo si parla solo di quando i corridori vengono beccati. L’ultimo è Valverde che si è beccato due anni di squalifica in Italia e che per questo salterà il Tour (ricorso al Tas permettendo).  A proposito di doping, non c’è solo la Cera a insidiare gli atleti. C’è anche la droga: Boonen ci è ricascato con la coca. E’ peggio che essere dopati, o no?.
Nel frattempo il Giro è partito e ha subito avuto un dominatore: Alessandro Petacchi che si è preso la soddisfazione di vestire la maglia rosa e sopratutto quella di regolare il nuovo enfant prodige della volata Cannonball Cavendish. E bravo AleJet! Che per l’occasione non si è fatto mancare una lacrimuccia . Al solito.

Il Giro vero però comincia oggi con le prime salite verso San Martino di Castrozza. Occhi puntati su Lance Armstrong, ovviamente. tutta da vedere.

It’’s good to be an Italian winner in Italy Part 2.

Athletes love vindication, the comeback, revenge, proving the critics wrong and defying the odds. Alessandro Petacchi accomplished all that on stage 3. While Mark Cavendish sat further back in the peloton joking with Lance Armstrong, Petacchi obeyed rule one of Grand Tour riding: stay up front, out of danger. When Cavendish was caught behind a massive pileup with 9k to go, Petacchi had another stage win in the bag.

The Ale-jet is back from suspension, winning big stages again, and surprising everyone with his aggressive tactics. He’s a crazed locomotive that doesn’t need a train. And best of all, he got to lecture the journalists at the finish line who doubted and disrepected. Perhaps Alessandro spent the off-season listening to hop-hop and rap music. He’s the P-diddy of the G-tour. “The dude got mad Giro skillz, man”

Meanwhile, the fastest sprinter in the world until 2 days ago picked up a few Matthew McConaughey stories and an invite to Austin for beers at Casa Armstrong. But he lost another shot at his only real rival Petacchi. Back to the drawing board for the manxman only this time without so much ego.

It’s shaping up to be a dream tour for Petacchi. Winning Giro stages means never having to buy a drink in Italy. Right now the pro-tour prosecco is flowing.

Today’s stage was teed up to be round two in the battle between sprinting stars Mark Cavendish and Alessandro Petacchi. Anyone who was reading Cavendish’s lips as he crossed the line yesterday would know that he would be desperate for the win today, having let Petacchi ride his wheel to victory. The consensus was that today’s finish would probably suit the Italian better than yesterday’s, but the run in to Valdobbiadene revealed a somewhat lumpy finish with narrow roads.

Once the day’s break was caught, a flurry of attacks began to make life difficult for the sprinters’ teams trying to control the race, with dangermen such as Thomas Voeckler and Jens Voight gettting a gap. Then disaster struck for Cavendish as he and a big group of riders got stuck behind a crash. Up front, Petacchi’s LPR team was piling on the pressure, chasing down the break but also no doubt mindful that their captain’s main rival was behind. Cavendish gamely tried to get back on, riding the wheel of a few team mates who were burying themselves. In his company was general classification favourite Denis Menchov, who also had one of his Rabobank men working on the front to regain contact. Yet it was a bridge too far for Cavendish and he eventually popped and was left riding alone until he was caught by another chasing group.

Meanwhile, for the second day in a row Petacchi arrived at the finale without team mates, who had already done plenty of work for the day. That didn’t seem to bother him in the slightest as he launched himself from the wheel of Filipo Pozzato to score a convincing win. The young American Tyler Farrar made a brave attempt reel him in, but had to settle for second. Farrar, who managed to take a win from Cavendish during the Tirreno – Adriatico, is looking good this year and is one to watch for the future. Petacchi’s win meanwhile means more bonus seconds and vaults him into the maglia rosa for tomorrow. Farrar gets to wear the ciclamino, but only because Petacchi will be in pink.

Today’s crash and a split in the bunch during the closing kilometre’s yesterday which saw Leipheimer and Basso lose a few seconds, means that the pecking order for the overall contenders has been shuffled around a little bit. However, nobody has any reason to be concerned just yet, with the exception of Garmin Slipstream. Christian Vande Velde Crashed out today, while David Zabriskie doesn’t seem to be going for the overall. Here’s how general classification men stand:

Tomorrow’s stage should shake things up a bit, with the first mountain top finish of the race. The 13km climb to San Martino di Castrozza could be difficult enough to force a selection, but coming so early in the race it is likely that the main contenders will be content to mark one another, leaving the door open for some of the outside bets to grab a stage win. Garzelli, Scarponi and Di Luca could all be men to watch.

Meanwhile, Irishman Philip Deignan is having a good Giro so far, sitting 21st overall and 1 minute and 7 seconds down. His main role will be to help his captain Carlos Sastre in the mountains, a job he looks in great shape to do at present.

Petacchi 2-  Cavendish 0 questo è il risultato delle prime due tappe in linea. Il folletto dell’Isola di Mann ieri non ha indovinato i tempi della volata mentre oggi è rimasto intruppato in un gruppo distaccato dalla testa a causa di una caduta, e ha comunque dimoostrato uno stato di forma inferiore rispetto ad inizio stagione. Di questo approfitta Petacchi con una doppietta nelle due tappe e con la conquista della maglia di leader, mostrando come questo Giro sia ricchissimo di scalatori e cronomen ma povero di velocisti, in parte’ a causa di infortunei e in parte a causa della mancanza di tappe pianeggianti. Peccato non avere un confronto tra Ale-Jet e Cavendish con Bennati, Lorenzetto, Haussler(forse il migliore di inizio stagione) e Hushovd ma tant’è, il Giro regalerà emozioni di alto livello sulle montagne a partire da domani. Nella nostra classifica ad azzeccare la doppietta con Petacchi è Giovanni Fontana che balza in testa con 14 punti, risultato fondamentale visto che, d’ora in poi, il pronostico sarà molto più aperto rispetto alle prime tappe dove i nomi importanti erano solamente 2-3.

Dupa o etapa de contratimp pe echipe si doua etape pentri sprinteri, Turul Italiei ne propune marti, 12 mai, o etapa in urma careia ne vom putea da seama cat de in forma sunt favoritii. Ciclistii vor pleca de la Padova pentru a ajunge, dupa 165 km, la San Martino di Castrozza. Parcursul ne propune doua catarari de categorie superioara.

1. Croce d’Aune. Catararea este plasata la kilometrul 123, fiind considerata una de categoria 1.

2. San Martino di Castrozza. Catararea incepe in localitatea Fiera di Primerio, avand o lungime de 12,9 km si panta medie de 5,8%. Pe primii doi kilometrii, exista portiuni de pana la 10%.

Finalul va fi in catarare. Epata a 4-a este, fara indoiala, o etapa dedicata cataratorilor, chiar daca nu putemvorbi de o etapa de munte propriu-zisa. Un pronostic la rece este destul de greu de oferit, intrucat la finalul acestei etape ar putea ajunge un grup compact de 15, 20 ciclisti si, in acest caz, vom avea de a face cu un sprint in catarare unde favorit ar fi Pellizzotti. Pot exista, insa si evadari solitare a ciclistilor care nu sunt cotati cu sanse reale la castigarea Turului. Probabil, favoritii la victoria finala se vor anihila reciproc pentru a putea vedea punctele slabe ale advserarilor.

Lance Armstrong a facut anumite declaratii destul de pesimiste in ceea ce il priveste, considerand ca este posibil sa nu poata tine pasul cu ceilalti favoriti. IN acelasi timp, septuplul invingator al Turului Frantei considera ca o sansa foarte mare de victorie o are coechipierul sau Levi Leipheimer.

Update: Etapa a fost castigata de ciclistul italian Danilo Di Luca in urma unui sprint pe un final in catarare. Fiind nascut in tinuturile din Abruzzo, Di Luca a dedicat victoria sa tutuor victimelor si supravietuitorilor cutremurului din 6 aprilie. Columbianul Mauricio Soler a incercat o evadare cu 2 km inainte de final, dar a fost ajuns pe ultimii 200 m de un pluton restrans a celor care doreau sa-si adjudece etapa la sprint. Lance Armstrong a ajuns cu 15 secunde in urma grupului care si-a disputat sprintul, fiind lasat in urma cu 2 km inainte de final.

Tricoul roz a va fi purtat maine de suedezul Lokvist, intrucat Alessandro Petacchi a pierdut contactul cu plutonul inca de pe prima catarare, Croce d’Aune.

A pancake flat run to Trieste, followed by three circuits around the city, yesterday’’s stage was always going to be about the sprinters and this year’s Giro features two of the top fastmen in the sport. Yet you can’t find any more different riders than Mark Cavendish and Alessandro Petacchi. The young Manxman has already seized the crown as the world’s top sprinter, with a bagful of Giro and Tour stages in addition to this year’s Milan – San Remo. Petacchi, now aged 35, remains a formidable threat, as his win in the Scheldeprijs earlier this year proved. The Italian is all about speed, relying heavily on a well organised leadout train which gradually ups the pace in the closing kilometres until he jumps out of the slipstream of his final team mate, launching himself like a rocket to the line. Cavendish meanwhile is a little more versatile. Like Petacchi, he makes good use of his team mates to lead him out, but he also has the skill to mix it up and jump around on to various wheels. His great strength is his explosive acceleration and he can leave opponents for dead within a matter of metres.

Cavendish is a typical sprinter, cocky, brash and thriving on his own self confidence. Petacchi is a very different character, appearing far more fragile. He suffered a horrific crash in the 2006 Giro, breaking a kneecap and, on his return from injury, spoke frankly about how afraid he was every time he sprinted.

On paper, yesterday’s stage seemed to give Cavendish the edge. A technical run didn’t seem to suit Petacchi’s preference for being shepherded home by a line of team mates. On the run in, Cavendish looked primed for victory, sitting comfortably behind a string of fellow Columbia riders at the front. However, Petacchi surprised everyone by throwing his usual tactics out the window, appearing near the front with nary a team mate in sight and glueing himself to Cavendish’s wheel. Three hundred metres from the end, he jumped, leaving Cavendish to play a desperate game of catch up. But Petacchi’s sheer speed kept him at bay, which means round one of the sprinter’s battle goes to the veteran. Cavendish, by virtue of his team’s superior TT on Saturday, get’s to stay in the maglia rosa for another day, but Petacchi gets to don a now familiar ciclamino.

Cose successe (a me) domenica 10 maggio 2009:

- ho visto Smashing Time, in italiano orrendamente titolato Ci divertiamo da matti, che e’ un film che parla di due tizie (una e’ la sorella di Vanessa Redgrave) che arrivano a Londra nei meravigliosi anni della Swinging London. Ci sono un sacco di cose fiche (edifici, mercati, negozi, strade, etc) che a Londra ora non ci stanno piu’, in genere perche’ sono state demolite (grosso sport nazionale in Inghilterra). Poi ci sono un sacco di gag che non fanno ridere, scene poco credibili, e soprattutto una noia mortale.

- ho visto Petacchi vincere una tappa che anche la gamba del mio tavolino sapeva che avrebbe vinto Cavendish (lo dicevamo noi, di qua). E invece no.

- ho visto che sotto casa mia c’e’ una palestra all’aperto. E allora sono andato a muovere un po’ le braccia e lavorare sui mollicci addominali e dopo mezz’ora mi facevano male tutti i muscoli. Ma son soddisfazioni.

- ho visto, verso le 10 30 pm, una pietra sul pavimento del soggiorno dopo aver sentito un gran botto e visto una discreta quantita’ di vetri schiantarsi sul tavolino: qualche secondo dopo ho collegato i vari elementi, e ho capito che qualche buontempone ci aveva tirato un mattoncino in casa, centrando in pieno la finestra. Senza prendere nessun essere umano, per fortuna, ma qualche minuto prima avrebbero fatto centro. Dev’essere brutta la noia della domenica sera.

- ho visto The Magic Christian, che e’ un film con Peter Sellers e Ringo Starr (ripeto, per i piu’ distratti, Ringo Starr e Peter Sellers, insieme, in un film!) con camei di Roman Polanski e Richard Attenborough (scusate eh!). Una ficata. Ma proprio tanto.

- ho visto e letto un post bellissimo. Uno dei piu’ belli che abbia mai letto.

- ho visto i risultati dell’ultima giornata di serie A (di basket): Virtus Roma seconda – e questo gia’ si sapeva – e Fortitudo in Legadue – e questo non si sapeva ancora. Son belle cose, entrambe.

Quante cose senza praticamente muoversi di casa.
