Tonight, I was gifted with home alone time and Hook. The movie. This movie was one of my all time

Tonight, I was gifted with home alone time and Hook. The movie. This movie was one of my all time childhood favorites, and aside from having a friend that very closely resembles Rufio and yelling out Ruf-e-ooooooo every time I see him, I hadn’t thought of the movie in years.

I snapped a few phone shots of the tv screen so you could really remember the movie in detailed, high-end quality.

I think adults should watch “kids” films more often. Kids haven’t been working 60 hour weeks, stumbling out of bed in the morning without remembering they ever climbed in it…they haven’t been jaded by the shopping cart in the parking space by your car that used to resemble a rocket ship but now only represents a possible ding in your drivers side door and the annoyance of looking at it every day as you go to your job that doesn’t pay you enough to touch up the paint.

As a child, I thought living in the tree houses of the Lost Boys would mean I had “made it” in life. As an adult, I see the deeper message in the movie, intended for the parents who are begrudgingly watching with their kids. As the writer of being preposterous, I see a few other lessons to be learned from the Lost Boys and their pirate nemeses:

- Happy thoughts can, indeed, make you fly.

- A valid address can consist of one star and a cardinal direction.

- The Icelanders have had it right all along – fairies do exist.

- Wisdom does not come with age, it comes from eating imaginary food.

- Everyone needs a “bang-a-rang” warrior code word in their vocabulary (TGIF doesn’t count).

- Men in tights are awesome (and quite nimble).

- A strong imagination is equally as important as a grasp on reality…I think Peter would say it’s thinking off your feet.

- Some (most) of the best solutions are found when when we let our minds wander instead of hyper-analyzing. This is when the apostrophes come!

- If we hold on to our fears long enough, they will eventually come alive and devour us in one chomp.

- Complex Freudian hallucinations having something to with our mothers are totally real, but not as scary as we think them to be…in fact, they could be quite charming if we let them.

- And of course, that living in tree houses can be equally as fulfilling as living on a pirate ship.

From here on out this site exists in the domain of “NEVER, never.”

Ah the humble VHS how you are gone but not forgotten. In a time before Itunes, torrents and the cock

Ah the humble VHS how you are gone but not forgotten. In a time before Itunes, torrents and the cocky DVD all we had to rely on against the mundane predictability of terrestrial TV was our trusty video cabinet. Harking back to a simpler time, here’s our stroll down memory lane with a look at some of the video’s we kept on coming back to as wee children.

1) Ghostbusters 2: IH

‘Doe.’

‘Ray.’

‘Egon.‘

The dialogue in this movie is superb. The acting is bang on. The special effects are still great. I watched it again at the beginning of this week and it still makes me laugh out loud. There are also a few decent scares. If you haven’t seen this movie, where have you been and what is your problem?

2) The Mask: LJ

The film that made Jim Carrey’s name in Hollywood was a staple of any child’s video collection. The film is bizarre, sexy, funny, exciting and as a kid I bloody loved it. Also the special effects in this film are mind blowing. How they got Cameron Diaz’s boobs to look that big is still a mystery to me.

3) Labyrinth: IH

Ain’t got no problem…

‘You remind me of the babe.’

And that’s all I’d need to say to you to kick off what is, arguably, the best back-and-forth between a Goblin and his minions in cinema history. Jim Henson lit up my childhood with this movie; it’s complete with awesome puppets, catchy music and a really fantastical story, and for that I am truly grateful.

4) Peter Pan: LJ

A Disney classic and a firm favourite of mine as a youngster. Peter Pan has been re-spun in many forms over the years, but this 1953 Disney animation has an air of nostalgia, character and beauty that is hard to beat.

5) Beetlejuice: IH

My pursuit to be scared shitless started early, and my love of Beetlejuice is evidence of that. Tim Burton’s most original work was one of my absolute favourites from a very young age. It all gets very weird very quickly, and the final marriage scene has one of the oddest uses of the Banana Boat Song I’ve ever seen.

Daaaay-O!

6) Annie: LJ

The 1982 adaptation of the Broadway hit Annie was a hugely loved in my household. Despite criticism at the time that the movie did an injustice to the original stage production, as a child, and blossoming musical fanatic, Annie had it all. The songs were catchy, sets impressive and ending satisfyingly schmaltzy.

7) Aladdin: IH

Is Aladdin the best Disney film ever? I’m sure both of us would argue for and against this statement, but it was certainly the best Disney film featuring a flying carpet. Regardless, it’s still a firm favourite, and I even perfected Abu’s voice as a tribute.

8) Look Who’s Talking: LJ

Bruce Willis as baby. What’s not to like? With Kirstie Alley, John Travolta and lots of singing sperm, Look Who’s Talking had charm in abundance. As well as a banging 80′s soundtrack, genuinely sweet love story, oh and did I mention Bruce Willis as a baby? This film rules. We’ll pretend the third film with the talking dogs never happened..

9) Legend: IH

Legend is one of my go-to movies if I want that nostalgic feeling, and probably more so than any of my choices on this list. Directed by Ridley Scott, Legend is an adult kids film, much like a lot of films from the period. They really do not make them like this anymore. What do kids nowadays have…Jack The Giant Slayer? It’s doesn’t have a patch on Legend.

10) Star Wars: LJ

Too young to have seen the Star Wars films first time around I remember going to get them in the cinema when they were re-released and then subsequently getting the wonderful gold and silver VHS box set one Christmas. I don’t need to remind anyone just how good these films are but they are SO damn good. Cult classics and some of the best characters ever created on film.

So, here are our 10 (5 each) movies. What movies did you wear out as a kid? Saturdays are never going to be as good as they were when you were 5. All day VHS sessions seem a millennium ago…

This book totally surprised me. I was skeptical of the idea of a Peter Pan re-telling from Tiger Lily’s perspective, narrated by none other than Tinker Bell. So weird. And I’ve never been a huge fan of Peter Pan. The story was too Disney-fied in my head. And the musical with Sandy Duncan really wheat-thinned it for me too.

But wow–Anderson’s Tiger Lily is awesome. It’s not simply a re-telling from another perspective: Anderson has re-imagined the story. It’s much darker, at times even brutal. But it’s also more real. The novel is essentially a love story between Tiger Lily and Peter before Wendy shows up on the scene. And as ‘Tink’ warns it doesn’t have a happy ending. I usually don’t like books that let me know the ending from the start, but this one is well worth it.

Anderson has almost written a literary Peter Pan story. The characters are deep and complex, with conflicting motivations, and they grow and change in surprising ways. Sure there’s subtle commentary on colonialism in there but also some real insight into ‘first love’ that I have not seen in the magical YA lit yet. (And I’ve read a lot of it. Did you see my Big List yet?)

The literary style and attempts at realism sometimes conflict with the magical silliness of the original tale of Peter Pan, but what Anderson had done with Tiger Lily is masterful and marvelous. A great read that will leave you with something to think about for weeks afterwards.

Tiger Lily

author : jodi lynn anderson

pages : [hardcover] 292

memorable quote : Sometimes I think that maybe we are just stories. Like we may as well just be words on a page, because we’re only what we’ve done and what we are going to do.

favorite characters : peter & tiger lily

summary :

Before Peter Pan belonged to Wendy, he belonged to the girl with the crow feather in her hair. . . .

Fifteen-year-old Tiger Lily doesn’t believe in love stories or happy endings. Then she meets the alluring teenage Peter Pan in the forbidden woods of Neverland and immediately falls under his spell.

Peter is unlike anyone she’s ever known. Impetuous and brave, he both scares and enthralls her. As the leader of the Lost Boys, the most fearsome of Neverland’s inhabitants, Peter is an unthinkable match for Tiger Lily. Soon, she is risking everything—her family, her future—to be with him. When she is faced with marriage to a terrible man in her own tribe, she must choose between the life she’s always known and running away to an uncertain future with Peter.

With enemies threatening to tear them apart, the lovers seem doomed. But it’s the arrival of Wendy Darling, an English girl who’s everything Tiger Lily is not, that leads Tiger Lily to discover that the most dangerous enemies can live inside even the most loyal and loving heart.

From the New York Times bestselling author of Peaches comes a magical and bewitching story of the romance between a fearless heroine and the boy who wouldn’t grow up.

review :

I love anything and everything to do with Peter Pan so of course I needed to get my hands on this book! Tiger Lily is unique in that it focuses on her story and not on Peter’s. It’s even told from Tinkerbell’s point of view. That difference was something that made me a little wary at first because I didn’t know if I’d like having Tink as a narrator and a different main character but I really loved this new interpretation and most of the things that were added to Tiger Lily’s – and Peter’s – story.

I loved seeing her life in the tribe and what shaped her personality and adventurous mind. The culture Anderson creates as well as the life of the entire island she describes comes to the reader in a way that really reminded me of a fairy tale which was something I loved. Although at times I had to admit that because this tale deviates so much from the original Peter Pan story, it’s less the prequel I thought that it was and more a wonderful reinterpretation that I’ll be returning to again and again.

Of course I kept waiting for Tiger Lily to meet Peter Pan and I loved the scenes that they had together, especially when they weren’t getting along very well. They were wonderful together and I really loved how their characters flowed and developed. They each had their own flaws as well as their wonderful characteristics.

The only problem I really had with this novel was the ending and that was almost what ruined it for me, though by kind of ignoring it I still love this book. I think that the end is just entirely out of character considering the original Peter Pan and the expectations that I had because of that regarding this book and any other interpretation that I might read. That’s just something that would never happen.

I give Tiger Lily 5/5 stars and recommend it for anyone looking to read a great fairy tale, both charming and heartbreaking.

Just when Rumple and Belle are happy, Once Upon a Time gets involved…

This past Sunday, ABC’s hit show ended it’s second season with a a bang… and a cliff hanger. After Regina and Emma join forces and use their magic to disassemble the stone that will destroy Storybrooke and all of its storybook inhabitants, Henry is taken by evil duo Greg and Tamara to Neverland, where Peter Pan has been waiting for Henry for a very long time.

I had a hard time accepting Peter Pan as an evil character, especially since Disney had built him up to be sort of heroic, but in Once Upon a Time, even Hook does not dare to cross the “shadow,” only adding to the fear of the one taking young boys from their homes to stay in Neverland. “It was horrible,” Wendy Darling told Baelfire in the finale explaining that the children Peter Pan takes to Neverland cry every night for their parents. That’s so sad.

I’m curious to visit Neverland (which Wendy told Baelfire has mermaids, and fairies..um hello Ariel/Tinkerbell). It will also be nice to see the bad guys and good guys join forces, but mostly the bad guys.. and other bad guys (Regina, Hook, Rumple). I’m sure their truce is only temporary, but it will be cool to see what happens. I wonder how Rumple will feel when he finds out that Hook sort of felt protective of young Bae.

I’m really excited for next season; Neverland, the return of Sleeping Beauty, Prince Philip, and Mulan (WITH BAELFIRE/NEIL), and more new characters of course; mostly I’m excited to see why Peter Pan is so creepy.

All in all, the finale was great, new friendships, but also new enemies, what more could you ask for in a finale.

Also, does anyone else want Hook and Regina to become a couple because.. come on.

Snow and Charming, adorable as always.. but they need some real parenting lessons, where’s the affection?

And Bae(Neil) and Emma need to reunite, obviously.. (sidenote, young Bae is a total hottie; its ok to say that, his voice changed).

And my favorite OUAT couple Rumple and Belle need to reunite again, let’s go.

We’re comin for ya, Henry!

Pass the moon through the clouds in a distant lenore.

A world of change where lost boys play
As grow up troubles melt away.

When you see this sign, even though you are certainly in Florida, you won’t feel like it much longer! You will instantly be whisked off to the Caribbean where fun in the sun, sand, and having a drink in your hand will truly be all that matters!

The Caribbean Beach Resort at Walt Disney World has to be one of the funnest places to stay on all Disney property! The lively music, tons of colors, multiple water and beach activities, and really fun and well themed rooms make the Caribbean Beach a “can’t go wrong” choice for your next Disney World stay.

I’ll start by showing you a map of the property so you can see just how massive the property is, and you can also see all of the amenities that the Caribbean Beach has:

Once you pull onto the property you will make your way to the Customs House where you will check in. Of course these days, Disney makes it so easy because you can actually check into your room online and not have to stand in the long lines, so don’t forget this timesaving tip. You will want the extra time to spend in the parks and at this beautiful resort. The resort is laid out in groups of rooms and each group has their own pool, which makes it very nice to have a pool so close to your room no matter where your room is located. Of course there is a huge pool (called the Feature Pool Area) located a short walk away at the very center island part of the resort. This pool offers both a walk up and swim up bar, as well as very cool waterslides for the family.

Now everywhere you look you will notice the Caribbean themeing, and I do mean everywhere you look! As you can see here, this walkway is themed as if it came straight from the Pirates of the Caribbean ride, including the cannons pointing outwards to ward off the scurvy pirates! The rooms here at the Caribbean Resort will leave a lasting impression on you and your family. Check out these pictures of the greatly themed rooms, complete with pirate ship beds!

The main shopping area is also exceptionally themed and looks just like a small town straight out of the Caribbean:

Here you have many different types of food options to choose from: authentic Caribbean fare such as jerk chicken platters, pizza, burgers, steaks, seafood, as well as full breakfast in the mornings to fill up on before you take off for the parks! Here is a look at the inside of the food market. It is absolutely huge and you will never run out of new things to try, even on a 7 night stay:

Earlier I mentioned all of the activities that are offered at the resort. You can rent bikes to ride around, you can rent small boats to take trips out into the larger bodies of water, you can rent paddle boats, there are basketball courts to use, there are many playgrounds for the kids, and for the adults, there are the softest hammocks places all around the beachfront and they offer the best shade on property.

Ok I hear you – this sounds great and all, but this is Disney, so will it cost me my first born? Here’s the good news! Caribbean Beach Resort is labeled as a “moderate” prices resort. What does that mean? Disney have 3 different types of price ranges for their resort hotels – “Luxury” which ranges from $300 a night and up, “Moderate” which ranges from $175 a night and up, and finally “Value” which ranges from $80 and up. Now of course there are rooms at each of these hotels that can cost you much more than these rates depending on the amenities in the room and the time of year you go.

Caribbean Beach is surprisingly cheap for everything you get at this resort. You will enjoy spacious rooms which are well themed as you can see. You will never get bored with the hundreds of activities that are all around you. You will have many different food choices at your beck and call, including a killer pizza which can be delivered right to your room!

My family loves the Caribbean Beach Resort for all the reasons I have laid out here for you. It was the first resort that we ever stayed in on Disney property and it was the reason that we continue to stay on Disney property every time we do to Disney World. You will be treated like royalty from the minute you step foot on property, and if your like us, you will dread the time when you have to leave! Ahoy mates, and keep your bloody eyes peeled for Davy Jones and Captain Jack Sparrow as I hear tell they plunder these parts daily!

I hope you enjoyed our little trip to the Caribbean (Beach Resort). With the expection of Coronada Springs, we have stayed at every Disney owned resort hotel, so you can look forward to many more resort reviews coming up in the near future.

Tomorrows post will be back to answering your Disney questions, and later on this weekend, I have had someone who thinks they can stump me with Disney trivia? Did they do it? Come on back and find out!

Have a very blessed day and as they say in the Caribbean – “May the winds of change forever be at your back!”

Ah, the retcon. We storytellers know it well. It’s when writers have a great idea to add to a pre-existing story and are determined to shoehorn it in no matter the cost. Often in the form of “Y’know how you THOUGHT this, this, and this happened? Well, ACTUALLY, the whole time, this, this, and this was happening and you had no idea!” Well, the Tinker Bell tinkerers decided it was time the little sprite actually had…. dun dun DUN… a twin sister!

Secret of the Wings kicks off at the beginning of the winter season. Now, winter is a horse of a different color in Pixie Hollow. The other seasons are all in the care of the nature fairies, or “warm” fairies, while winter belongs only to the cold fairies. There is a clearly defined border leading into the Winter Woods and it is verboten for any fairy to cross it. So Tink just goes on and crosses it. Only to learn that her warm fairy wings will freeze and crack if she stays in the Winter Woods too long. Her friend, Fawn (not that it matters as her female friends are all interchangeable anyway) starts to flip. out. Especially when Tink’s wings start to glow all rainbowy. She’s convinced Tink’s wings are breaking and she whisks her away to Fairy Hospital.

Finally left to her own devices, a recuperated Tinker Bell goes to Fairy Library to research this glowing wing phenomena. As luck would have it, it’s the last chapter of the first ”Wingology” book she finds. Unfortunately, those last few pages were eaten by bookworms. Womp womp. The book was written by the Keeper, who lives in the Winter Woods. So guess where we’re headed??!?!?!? The owlery! Wait, what? Okay, so actually snowflakes are made by the tinker fairies in the warm fairy side of the border, and then they are piled into baskets that owls carry over to the Winter Woods. And Tink has to wrap up her wings to stave off the cold, so she can’t fly. She stows away in a snowflake basket and is carried off by the snow owls. Why she doesn’t just walk over the curiously unguarded border like she did last time, I couldn’t tell you. But kids love owls, right? Put ‘em in!

Tinker Bell stumbles along the Winter Woods until she finds the Keeper, who presides over all the frosty tomes in this neck of the hollow. His name is Dewey. (GET IT?! Because he’s a librarian! Dewey decimal system!) Tink barely has a chance to introduce herself when an excitable little pixie comes fluttering in. With glowing wings, no less. Tinker Bell’s wings follow suit and the two are treated to a sparkly flashback where they discover that they were both born from the same child’s laugh. Oh, that’s how fairies are born, by the way, in case you haven’t been following. Tink and this chick, Periwinkle, are totes sisters! And you know what that means…

While Peri and Tink enjoy their newfound sibling synchronicity, it becomes clear that Tink cannot stay in the Winter Woods much longer. But she cannot bear the thought of leaving her sister forever, so she builds a snow making machine to follow Peri around while visiting the warm weather fairies. The snow runs low, however, and Peri’s wings start to wilt. The results are disastrous; they even have to bring in Queen Anjelica Huston and Lord Timothy Dalton of the Winter Woods. The two royal heinouses make a fuss over why it is so totally forbidden to cross borders. They spin a tale of two fairy lovers, a cold and warm fairy, who tried to live together forever. But the cold fairy’s wings wilted and broke, for which there is no cure. Hmm, I wonder who these two lovers were. Jeez, Lord Timothy Dalton, why do you wear a cloak over your wings?

They toss the snow machine into the fairy river. Which is a super smart idea, because the machine needs water to make snow. If it’s left unattended in a river, which supplies an unlimited amount of water… Do you see where I’m going with this? The machine soons spits out a freeze of Day After Tomorrow proportions. And with no Dennis Quaid or Jake Gyllenhaal to help steam things up, Pixie Hollow faces certain doom. If that freeze reaches the Pixie Dust Tree, it’s curtains for all of fairkind. Snap.

The ever resourceful Tinker Bell, though, recalls a frosted flower that Peri gave her. The flower was still alive because the frost kept all the warmth in. Fairy Science. She recruits the winter fairies to frost the Pixie Dust Tree and all is well. Pixie Hollow warms up a bit and so do Queen Anjelica Huston and Lord Timothy Dalton. They reveal that THEY were the lovers from that star crossed tale. WWWWHHHHAAAAA??!

Giving Tink a sister when they have plenty of other fairy friends to develop seemed a bit superfluous, but the fourth entry in the Disney Fairies series is just as pretty and funny as the others.

{Hello dear friend. I struggled so much re-posting this blog from June 7, 2012. The struggle comes from knowing I am not in the same broken place I was when I wrote this. As grateful as I am for this new peaceful place in my soul… it feels a bit inauthentic to post today. Yet, I can not shake the holy urge to post it. So…maybe…just maybe it’s for you. If so, I hope you will let me know. Praying for you friend.}

“I do believe in fairies. I do. I do.”

It was the cry of a distraught boy who never grew up. On the cold dark ground his small-winged friend lay limp, as the harsh black sky draped over her.

And then her light went out.

Completely.

No light. No life. No hope.

But even still, the boy did not give up. He contended for her life to shine bright once more.

He fought with words of Belief.

“I do believe in fairies. I do. I do.”

And Hope stirred as the cry lifted in the air magnifying the words throughout the land. And soon the voices of many could be heard.

Because Hope is contagious.

And a twinkle turned into a full blown glow filling her up with life, energy, flight and color.

Because Hope heals.

What if?

What if we believed past the land of make-believe and declared words of belief over our body, mind and soul.

What if this cancer—this damn cancer—growing inside the body of a loved one…ceased to exist because Hope drove it out?

What if?

What if this cancer—this sin cancer—growing inside my own soul ceased to exist because Hope drove it out?

What if I contended for my marriage, my kids, my life with words of Hope?

I lay limp on the cold ground only because I have chosen for my own light to go out. It is I who drank the poison of unbelief.

I must believe there is Hope. I must. If I don’t, my unbelief will surely usher my soul to its death.

I can sit here and let the cancer eat me alive leaving me to suffer the loss of more broken hearts and homes…or

I can choose to believe. Not in fairies, for I will not give in to wishful thinking. But I will give in to Holy declaration.

I do believe in Jesus. I do. I do.

I believe there is a God who not only knows me, cares for me and loves me—but longs to heal my soul—and yours.

Do you believe?

On the journey with you,

Laura

{As much as I stated earlier I am in a different place when I originally posted this blog, my heart breaks to know I still have a loved one, a dear friend, battling cancer. Please join me in praying Hope to heal her.}

Interview your favorite fictional character.

An Interview With Tinker Bell

Courtesy of http://www.ani360.com via Yahoo Images

Q-How did it all begin?
A-Well, I was born, as a character, in J. M. Barrie’s 1904 play, Peter Pan. But, it was Marc Davis that really brought me to life, in 1953, in paintings of Margaret Kerry. Marc Davis was a famous animator at Disney. Disney held a contest and Margaret Kerry won the audition to model for Tinker Bell. Margaret spent six months wearing a bathing suit and posing with her facial expressions, body language, and slender figure.

Courtesy of http://www.suite101.com via Yahoo Images

Q-What other films have you played in?
A-I was in several Peter Pan Sequel’s. I was, merely, a supporting character, at first. Later, I left a trail of twinkling pixie dust in my own films and became a widely recognized character in the Walt Disney Company.

Q-What kind of fairy are you?
A-My creator, Marc Davis, called me a common fairy. J. M. Barrie called me a fairy who mended pots and kettles, like an actual tinker.

Q-I’ve heard that fairy’s can only have one feeling at a time. Is this true?
A-Yes, it is true. I can be helpful, ill-tempered, jealous, kind, ill-tempered, and sometimes vindictive.

Q-What’s new in Tinker Bell’s world?
A-Well, you know that I have my own ‘Disney Fairies’ franchise and guests are able to interact with me in Disney World and Disney Land. You also probably know that I was presented with the 2,418th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, becoming the thirteenth fictional character and the sixth Disney character to receive this honor. My star celebrated Hollywood Walk of Fame’s 50th anniversary. There are lots of new things to come, so stay tuned.

I dreamt!!! SO yeah.

I’m watching this play of Peter Pan in this really cool theatre. The theatre was set up a lot like a Quidditch pitch in that all the seats were elevated off the ground and the stage was surrounded by the seats. Although the theatre was considerably smaller than a Quidditch pitch and there were several buildings in the set. In order to fly, the man playing Peter Pan would grab onto these ropes that were strung between the buildings and essentially zip-line from place to place.

So i’m watching the play, having a great time, and then the actor falls to the ground mid zip. He looks quite shaken but he gets back up, tries to play it off, and continues the play. A few moments later, he falls again. This time he’s not continuing the play. He walks off set in a puff and goes to look for his friend.

As soon as the actor walks through the door on the side of the stage, two things happen. 1. I am now walking with him on his search for his friend and we’re buds. 2. The door leads to his friends house and we are now standing in a bathroom.

The bathroom is quite white and clean. Peer Pan is calling out for his friend. He checks the shower and theres nothing there so we keep walking. The door on the other end of the bathroom leads to yet another bathroom. When Peter checks the shower in this bathroom, theres some blood on one of the walls in it. Peter makes some acknowledgement of it and we continue into yet another bathroom. This one is empty, but then we get to the fourth bathroom.

In the shower is a man (who I think was the actor who plays GOB in Arrested Development) covered in tattoos and I can see that his left upper arm is covered in bloody cuts and he has a razor in his hand and is continuing to make new cuts as Peter and I went up to him. I asked him why he was doing that. He pointed to one of his many tattoos and told me to watch it. As he cut his arm, the tattoo (along with several others) faded away and disappeared. A few moments later they reappeared tho.

I guess Peter and I convinced him to stop, because he got up and the three of us started walking back the way we had come. I brought to their attention that I really needed to go because I promised i’d meet my friend for lunch. The two of them made a big fuss about me blowing them off for some girl and then the dream ended.

Also at some point during the night, I dreamt that I was walking through a very large K-12 school. I was in the elementary school part of the building and some of the classroom doors were open and I could see the little desks inside.

As always, feel free to psychoanalyze this to your hearts content. No really, I want to get some comments.

Until next time, keep dreaming.

I can officially review this show now, as it has a graphic novel spinoff coming in the fall, and I

I can officially review this show now, as it has a graphic novel spinoff coming in the fall, and I’m excited, as it is one of my favorite shows on TV at the moment… but did its finale work well for the second season? Warning SPOILERS AHEAD!

First off, let me say that Season one was amazing. From start to finish, it had me on edge, wanting to see what was going to happen next. Then the finale came for the first season, and I was even more intruiged. Now let’s get on to season 2.

It begins with Once’s take on the Sleeping Beauty tale. A wraith hunts down Prince Phillip, while Princess Aurora and Mulan are left to fend for themselves. Emma and Snow have arrived here as well in the Enchanted Forest. At first the meeting does not go well between them, but Mulan eventually learns to trust Emma and Snow. With Magic now present in Storybrook, Emma and Snow do what it takes to return there.

Throughout the season we see a theme. During the first half of season 2, Emma and Snow make it their mission to return to storybrooke, even when it means teaming up with the famed Captain Hook and tackling a Giant at the top of a beanstalk. The twisted takes on fairytales continues to excite me throughout the season. Things like Lancelot, and Frankenstein being incorporated into it as well as Cora being revealed to be the actual Queen of Hearts from Wonderland were a lot of fun.

Things I didn’t like too much were the following: Tamara and Greg… Although I liked the reveal that Tamara was Greg’s “her” I feel that these characters were annoying as hell. I was beginning to think that Tamara was really a witch of Oz, but it just turns out she was a pawn of something bigger (we’ll get to that). She was the true bitch of this season. While true evil like Cora is wrong, she is still likeable. Tamara has nothing about her that I like, and Greg is just as irritating. Greg’s father was lost in Storybrooke long ago, yet he doesn’t seem to care at the end. It is all about the mission. Even if Regina did kill his father in the past, it doesn’t matter. A personal vendetta just seemed to be dropped for the twist at the end. I also didn’t like Belle losing her memory. I didn’t feel it drove the story any until she had fallen for bad boy Rumple, but even the effects of that were short lived.

I also felt that this season had no ups and downs. Is this a bad thing? No. It just didn’t have me waiting for the next episode as much as I was in the first season. High points to me were Cora… Regina’s struggles with good and evil… Neil being revealed as Baelfire… and the mystery of other people finding out about Storybrooke.

As for the finale, and inclusion of Peter Pan lore, I thought it was done well. I really like that they are making Pan out to be a bad guy, because in the original novel, he was really a selfish prick of sorts. Not sure to what degree this will hold up, but I can’t wait to find out. The only other complaints I have are that I have to wonder what kind of taser can electrocute a wooden Pinnochio. Also, how does the group know that the magic bean will take them to the realm that they want? Did Rumple control that?

Next season I’m hoping we get a little Mermaid inclusion, but I’m looking forward to seeing Neverland and actually Peter Pan himself, not just his shadow. Rumplestiltkin, the Evil Queen, Emma, Snow White, Prince Charming and Captain Hook are all now teamed up to save the one person that they all care about… Henry. They have no idea if Neal is even still alive, and it appears that they are going to bring Prince Phillip, Mulan and Aurora back into it again.

Still love this series, and am looking forward to the spinoff Once Upon a Time In Wonderland. I’m curious as to whether the writers will do a crossover episode or two. Can’t wait til the fall. Season 2 gets 7 out of 10 stars from me.

I actually did not enjoy this one. I figured it would be some fun background information on one of my favorite fairy tales when I was a child, and I was sadly disappointed. I mean, we do get that back story, but I was saddened with the direction that they took the characters in, especially Peter Pan and Tinkerbell. The only story I like was Tiger Lily‘s.

Basically they turned Peter Pan into a vicious, manipulative elf creature who plots and schemes and kills to get what he wants. And he wants everything.

Tinkerbell’s story I enjoyed, at least until she hooked up with Pan and allowed herself to be corrupted by him and turned into something almost as dark and twisted as he was.

Tiger Lily’s was the best, although I didn’t like the artwork that they did for it. But she has always been portrayed as this fierce and proud noble warrior, and thankfully they didn’t change that in this one.

There was an odd story that didn’t make sense about someone who came from Neverland, had children in our world, and was using dark magic to subvert them and help him take over the realm of Neverland and Myst, but it seemed almost thrown in there without much of a thought into how it ties into everything.

Something very weird comes next in Crossed, Wish You Were Here by Si Spurrier

A contagion—or a curse—has decimated the planet. Marked with a bloody cross, the Infected are driven to indulge their sickest desires. In this world of psychos, savages, and sexual predators, the few remaining uninfected learn to keep moving: endlessly fleeing fate. This is the story of those who refused. Those who are too desperate, too angry, or too broken to hide from horror. It’s the story of a comic-book writer who witnessed the downfall of London, and now finds himself in the midst of a new community, a new start, on a barren island off the Scottish coast. Pretending, just for a while, that he’s safe, that he’s useful…that he has a future. It won’t last. There’s no sanctuary. No fighting back. No hope. There’s only the Crossed.
