¡¡Hola!!

En esta nueva entrada voy ha hablar sobre un grupo que ha arrasado durante esta década por todo el mundo, El canto del loco. Este grupo fue creado en 1994, El Canto del Loco ha conseguido vender más de un millón de copias. El canto del loco empezaron grabando maquetas a distintas discografías. Este grupo a conseguido muchos premios importantes de la categoría musical y también tiene muchas fans. Actualmente acaban de sacar dos discos uno con canciones españolas de toda la vida y otro con canciones suyas. Han sacado dos discos a la vez porque han decidido tomarse un tiempo.

It has occurred to me what Thanksgiving really needs to be the perfect holiday. While the holiday is a fantastic time for being thankful, the one thing I would be very thankful for is a morning after pill. Not just any morning after pill, but one that automatically makes you lose all the pounds you pack on during the holiday feasting. A bonus feature would be giving you the ability to clean the kitchen in two seconds flat after all that cooking. That would be my morning after Thanksgiving pill. While I did not go over board with the feast I prepared for my family and neighbors, I feel like I will have to do a week of hard running to keep my petite frame in check. We had a 10 pound goose, deviled eggs with tomatoes, cornbread stuffing with apples and pecans, goose gravy, white wine, and apple crumble that my neighbors were so nice to bring. The four kids ate, watched Peter Pan a million times, and went upstairs to have a plastic ball war (with all the plastic balls we have we should make a giant ball pit in the yard). Markus (my husband) and Markus (Angie’s husband) talked about airports while Angie and I talked about cooking and Christmas decorations. Luckily my dishwasher was empty so all plates and such got washed immediately and all I had to do was put away leftovers.

At the end of the night I decided I was very thankful that Angie loaned me her meat thermometer and brought dessert. Markus was thankful that I actually decided I like goose, because it is hard on him that I hate duck. Mary was thankful that Alex did not destroy the house and she did not have to chase him screaming “No!” Alex was thankful that Mary was not screaming and that he had more people to climb on. He also appreciated having a plate containing only meat and no veggies to contaminate it. Little sweet Analena was thankful that Mary had horses to play with, while Cedrick was just thankful that we had Peter Pan in German so he could understand it. It was my first Thanksgiving with my husband and children, and also my first Thanksgiving since I moved to Germany. Despite the four hours constantly on my feet cooking in a very hot kitchen I really enjoyed it. It was an experience that I hope to repeat next year.

Needless to say, it was not as stressful as I envisioned it to be. The kids behaved rather well, the food was great, and we all went to bed with full stomachs and no allergic reactions in sight. That is something to be really thankful for which brings me to my next point. When cooking for others, Thanksgiving or not, it is always best to call the person and ask if they or anyone in their family has any food allergies. This will save you a trip to the hospital and a lot of guilt over poisoning the guests. I hope that you all had a fantastic Thanksgiving and that you all have a safe Black Friday. Please try to avoid being trampled in the stores today. One final note, Happy Birthday Grace! My little sister’s birthday is today and while I can’t be with her to celebrate I shall drink some rum (her favorite) tonight in celebration. I hope that you and Win have fun today going out and that no one steps on either of you if she ends up taking you to Wal-Mart. Happy Birthday and I miss and love you very much Grace!

Why is it that the days you wake up most tired, have the most to do, with no nap in between, and wind up staying up the latest, you’re not tired at night; but then you wake up the next morning and are unable to function and the cycle begins again?  I am so ridiculously awake right now, but wild horses could not drag me out of bed this morning, and if I know myself as well as I claim to, this will be my problem tomorrow as well.  Why is that?  Did my body and brain just adjust to being awake and now that they are, they don’t want to sleep?  I feel like I am reverting back to my childhood.  The days where I would make up any excuse not to go to sleep.  I would fight sleep.  I would hop out of bed to get a drink of water; get up and say “I never kissed mommy goodnight.”  I would do everything short of whipping out a sword Peter Pan style and literally fighting sleep – and I mean, trust me, if I could have made that happen, I would have.  But in the end, sleep always won out.  It still does.  Except now I don’t mind because I love sleep.  Well, save right now of course…

So what is it about kids that makes them want to fight sleep so badly?  Sleep and dreams are my two favorite concepts about which to learn.  I sit in class in my sleep deprived state wishing that I could be napping, wondering why kids these days fight off nap time, often to the dismay of babysitters everywhere.  I constantly think about how I wish I had racked up the hours of sleep back in the day, because I feel I never get it anymore, and how if I were a baby all I would do is sleep.  It’s almost as if kids have something to prove, no?  As if to say that they’re cool for not needing a nap and staying up past their bed time.  When I had a bed time, I know I thought I was the coolest thing going when I was up ten, twenty, thirty minutes past EIGHT.  Now I’m in college and I’m probably more of a child than ever before.  I curl up with a blanket and I take naps with my stuffed animal giraffe and I think that’s okay.  It’s perfectly acceptable, and kind of cool too.  So why didn’t I think it was cool when I was five?

All I know is, college has taken my sleep schedule, crumpled it into a tiny little ball, and thrown it out a ten story window.  College laughs in the face of my former sleep schedule.  College is causing me to sleep less, and drink caffeine more.  But don’t worry, I never drink coffee before nap time…because that would just be stupid.

Crack open a Red Bull, kids, it’s going to be a long one.  Love always, RJ.

Il soggetto rifiuta di operare nel mondo “Degli adulti” in quanto lo ritiene ostile

e si rifugia in comportamenti ed in regole comportamentali tipiche della fanciullezza.

“i soggetti si caratterizzano per una scrittura addossata, accartocciata, inanellata, curva, con aste ritorte a sinistra”

Fa poc, ja comentava “Monster’s ball”, una exitosa pel·lícula de Marc Forster. Però l’altre dia vaig poder gaudir de “Descubriendo nunca jamás”. Un film meravellós protagonitzat per Johnny Depp i Kate Winslet i nominada a 7 òscars. La pel·lícula explica la vida de Jamie Barrie, un autor de teatre que, tot i escriure i dirigir obres d’èxit, no està content amb la seva feina. I és que ell no ha deixat mai de ser un nen, i l’infant que porta dintre lluita desesperadament per sortir.

Al final, aquest nen interior veu una escletxa de llum quan coneix una dona, mare de quatre fills, amb els quals comencen una relació d’amistat i tendresa. A través de les anècdotes i de les experiències d’aquesta família, en Jamie s’anirà inspirant per crear la seva obra més coneguda: “Peter Pan”. Els adults, lògicament, pensen que s’ha tornat boig per voler escriure una obra tant dement i imaginativa; però ell continua encaparrat a termianar-la, tot i les complicacions que puguin anar sorgint.

Per als actors, un excel·lent d’interpretació. No és la primera vegada que en Depp ens ofereix una actuació bona, però en aquesta pel·lícula supera al mateix Jack Sparrow. Cal destacar l’actuació dels quatre nens protagonistes, sobretot el del petit Peter, interpretat per l’entranyable Charlie de “Charlie i la fàbrica de xocolata” de Tim Burton.

Perr la música, un altre excel·lent amb una fletxa cap amunt. Preciosa i nostàlgica. I és que la nostalgia té un paper molt important durant tota la apel·lícula, ja que l’escriptor, tot i sentir-se com un nen, no pot deixar de sentir que ja no ho és, que ha madurat i que es va fent vell com la resta de la gent. No oblidem que el cocodril del conte del Peter Pan s’havia empassat un rellotge i cada cop que estava a prop s’escoltava el tic-tac d’un rellotge. El temps passa, ens amenaça, i només l’obra que està escrivint podrà perdurar per sempre. La seva empremta en aquest món.

Per tant, no dubteu en veure-la. Una magnífica obra d’un gran director; amb molt bons actors; amb una història inoblidable i nostàlgica apta pels més sensibles (amb mocador, sobretot que no falti) Una barreja de realitat i fantasia desbordant molt ben equilibrada. Molt i molt recomanable!!

Nottingham audiences at performances of Northern Ballet Theatre’s (NBT) A Christmas Carol proved that there were no Scrooges among them with their generous donations to momentum, NBT’s fundraising campaign for a purpose built home on Quarry Hill in central Leeds.

Dancers in costume held collection buckets at the exit doors after performances throughout the week and a staggering £3,936.00 was donated. NBT is truly grateful for this support from its Nottingham audiences. The Company has been touring to Nottingham for the past 20 years and always receives a warm welcome at the Theatre Royal.

The Company’s new building in Leeds will be a powerhouse for dance – the largest space for dance outside of London. Bringing together two of the UK’s leading dance companies, NBT and Phoenix Dance Theatre, it will be the only dance centre to house a national classical and a national contemporary dance company alongside each another. It will also be home to the NBT Academy and to Leeds Metropolitan’s new Dance Degree classes.

Everyone at NBT would like to say thank you to everyone who gave so generously. The total amount received or pledged towards momentum now stands at £1,462,441.72 of our £1.5million target.

NBT returns to the Theatre Royal in Nottingham from 13 to 17 May with its stunning production of Peter Pan a production that fascinates children and adults alike with its tale of Tinkerbell, the Lost Boys, pirates, fairy dust, crocodiles and of course Captain Hook.

Nicht jeder weiß, dass Bat Out Of Hell ursprünglich ein Musical war, das Jim Steinman über Peter Pan geschrieben hat (z.B. merkt man es bei der Textzeile: “Like a bat out of hell I’ve been gone when the morning comes”). Unglücklicherweise wurde das Musical nie realisiert und so tat sich Steinman mit Meat Loaf zusammen und man nahm das legendäre Album auf, dass sich bis heute sehr gut verkauft und mit seinen wagnerianischen Klängen zu gefallen weiß. Nun soll das Musical doch auf die Bühne kommen (in wie weit es noch etwas mit Peter Pan zu tun hat möchte ich jetzt nicht mutmaßen) und Pixie Lott wäre glücklich, eine Rolle darin zu übernehmen. Man möchte es der talentierten Sängerin wünschen!

It’s been awhile. Yeah, I’m busy, but aren’t we all. The typical blogger’s conundrum has fallen on my shoulders: too much work and no time for blogging/my work is writing and I don’t want to spend my little free time in front of the computer. How annoying and unfair! This month I’ve been trying my hardest to keep my lips sealed, but since ABODE is going to the printers today and our competitors’ magazines are long penned I can finally give some updates. You’ll have to get the details in person…or just wait for the book.

The month kicked off with ABODE exclusively covering the inaugural Doha 21st Century Leader Awards which led to me being picked up by Josh Hartnett (or me picking up him you decide): “Do you want to talk to some real Midwesterners?” …personal interviews with opera singer, Monica Yunus, daughter of Nobel Peace Prize winner Muhammad Yunus, who will be performing with Opera Omaha in February, and hotshot British painter Sacha Jafri who might be the most exciting person in contemporary art right now. The night of the interview Sacha and I immediately bonded over our velvet blazers…thank you Bellwether.
I wish you all could see the magazine online. It’s really professional. I just told T that it’s my favorite magazine in the world. I think what distinguises ABODE from other magazines in this city, besides superb photography and original writing, is that our team (though very small) is extremely intelligent, attractive (just like our magazine) and absolutely relentless.

Other notable meetings of the month: finding an almost too acute 13-year-old fashion blogger, Tavi, who I’ve just added to my blog roll, growing out my newly dyed red hair, listening to Pretty Lights and running into an adorable professional hockey player  who happened to have two missing teeth (still feeling the sporty vibe).
But still keeping in mind that there’s a fine line between playing the game and letting the game play you.

My grandmother taught me the secret of sleeping. When I was about seven, I got sick at her house and was put on the living room couch to sleep. I was extremely restless, and from her chair, she told me to close my eyes and lie still and I would fall asleep. And it worked. It still works. Now, whenever I can’t fall asleep, I just lie completely still and soon sleep finds me. This simple trick has helped me to fall asleep in the strangest places—on school buses, on the floor of a university’s business school, sitting completely upright in a kayak. But the most important lesson my grandmother taught me that day was not how to sleep. Rather, she taught me that being still is important. If you are still, whatever you are waiting for will come.

Even at the age of seven, I was restless. I couldn’t stop moving. Now, as I type this, my foot is jiggling. It’s nigh on impossible for me to sit completely still. Funnily enough, the more I sleep, the less I move. In class, I can always gauge how tired I am by how many time I switch position in five minutes. It annoys me just as much as it annoys the people sitting next to me. I wish I could find more stillness in my life, but as with many things, there never seems to be enough time.

Of course, there’s always the adage, “Don’t just sit back and watch your life go by.” But what are you missing if you are always chasing after life? What is the important things follow after you, but you’re too busy rushing onwards for them to catch up? Shouldn’t we use some of our life to see what happens, like Forrest Gump on his bend, and just wait, live, experience? What do we have to lose by stopping to smell the roses or living the moments now? Yesterday is a memory, tomorrow a vision, today is the only thing holding the two together. Being still allows life to take its time. True, there are only 24 hours in a day, but spending them in a rush creates a constant feeling of having only 23 or 22. Stillness, to some extent, allows for the full enjoyment and expression of all 24 hours.

But why stillness? Why is it so important? D.H. Lawrence wrote, “One’s action ought to come out of an achieved stillness: not to be mere rushing on.” Stillness brings inspiration; it allows one to be able to think more clearly and be more conscious of one’s ideas and actions. As a person with a cluttered mind, it would be nice to be able to sort through my thoughts in order to make sense of them, like Mrs. Darling in Peter Pan. Because I foresee that it will be difficult to achieve, I want it even more. We always want what we do not have, and I wish to gain stillness all the more because of its absence in my life.

I’ve been a student of yoga for about a year and a half now, goaded into it by my mother but continuing because of myself. When meditating, the practice is to not simply ignore the thoughts that come, but rather to acknowledge them and then return attention to the breath. I’ve tried this and depending on the day of the week, it works. Not always, but sometimes. It’s important to recognize that there are distractions in life, but to take time to be away from them and just be. However, my main trouble is always coming back to the breath. Throughout the day, my mind is always running, but in fits and starts. I think one task at a time, but one task leads to another and by the end of the day I have fifteen different things written on my hand. It’s kind of like that commercial with Ellen DeGeneres. When I try to clear my mind, suddenly all the things I have to do are laid out in front of me and I can see from one task to the next, rather than a jumble of things that will later be smeared across my palm. This is the exact opposite of the stillness I am trying to achieve, and simply leaves me feeling frustrated. Why can’t I quiet my mind? Why isn’t stillness of the mind as simple as the stillness of sleep?

The only thing I can think of is that it’s going to take time. Just as I have to wait for sleep to come after I’ve decided to be still, I’m going to have to practice quieting my mind in order for true stillness and peace to come. For now, I’m going to be thankful for the peace of mind I do have, and appreciate all the little things that make my life so full, loving the chaotic soul that I am. With time, the mind-quiet will come. As with anything, it’s just going to take some time.

Mr. Hook is my brown, wooden cane I purchased about ten years ago. It was like yesterday when I saw him. I was slowly ambling through the store looking for the accessories aisle when I almost fell tripping over a display of ties and men’s boxers. Once I regained my composure, I looked up and there he was. Smiling and waving at me. It was love at our first “step”.

I was only 16 years old but in serious need of a cane. My back problems had begun when I was 11 years old. I remember my first doctor’s visit when my mother took me to our physician who concluded that my body was preparing me for “womanhood.” That marked the first of consistent, throbbing back spasms that would haunt me for the next 5 years of my life.

Sometimes the pain was manageable. In fact, I was able to play sports, including going to the State Track and Field Championship for 4×100 my freshman year of high school. Every year, things changed around me: I was better in sports, my academics were soaring at the top of my class and life was being lived one day at time. The only thing that stayed the same was the nagging back spasms, and each day, month and year the pain progressed. By the time I reached the end of my sophomore year, I was in a back brace hobbling along with Mr. Hook, my old trusty cane.

I knew there were physical issues with my back which were confirmed when Dave Roberson visited our church and prayed for me. He called me out from the crowd. Mr. Hook and I both trembled as we slowly made our way to the center aisle. I remember Brother Roberson saying that my back was in pretty bad shape. I had never experienced a “laying on of hands” healing, so I was quite skeptical. Despite it all, I believed in God’s Word and believed it applied to me. Mr. Hook was thrown to the side as Brother Roberson lifted my arms above my head and I could feel healing heat running down my spine. Others reported that my hands, differing from a height of a few inches, were pulled to the same height and I was supernaturally healed in my body! Praise God! Mr. Hook was going to take his rightful place in the corner of my closet!

There was just one problem after that; Mr. Hook didn’t go away. My back was still hurting. The pain was still there and increasing as usual. I remember saying to Mr. Hook that I believed my back was healed, but there was something else going on. I struggled with this for the weeks following until I was completely torn and weary.

Did I not have the right kind of faith? If God healed everybody else, why couldn’t he heal me?

One night, Apostle David taught on deliverance for individuals who were downtrodden and needed grace. Once again, Mr. Hook and I made our way up the aisle to the front where I waited desperately for God to intervene and tell what I did wrong to deserve such torment.

As I stood there, one of the leaders in my church came up behind me and said that she had a word from the Lord to me. In summary, He said that my back pains were the manifestation of the emotional problems I had hoarded and never released. I was literally carrying years of abuse, neglect, rejection and insecurity and it was manifesting in back pain. I broke that night and cried, snotted and wailed for what seemed like hours. Nevertheless, I received true breakthrough that night. A week later, I was released to light duty, which I was forbidden to do a month before. And within a month, I was back to normal physical activities PAIN-FREE and have never experienced another back spasm since!

Growing up, my mother referred to me as the “why” child because it was important for me to know the purpose behind what I had to do and/or what I was faced with. Not for rebellious purposes, but so I could reproduce any effective habits and/or behaviors that would benefit me. In the same respect, I desire to know God AND understand His ways, which is one of the reasons I truly value the gift of prophecy and prophets in my life to provide those “why” answers and clarity when I need it most. Without the insight of prophecy at that pivotal moment of my life, I am convinced that my days of walking in health were numbered. In addition, I definitely would not have had enough understanding to maintain my healing, spending most of my time focusing on a physical component when I should be dealing with emotional weights instead.

It’s funny how Mr. Hook was my dependency to assist me down the “yellow brick road” called my life for that season. I’m forever grateful that the gift of prophecy has been able to replace him and provide much needed guidance and understanding.

Mr. Hook and I have not spoken in quite some time now. The last I heard he was living in the back of my closet with the toys I collected as a child . . . or maybe it was a sad goodbye at the G.O.O.D. yard sale. Either way, thanks to the gift of prophecy, I can assure you we are both definitely living happily ever after!

I am the last in a line of visionaries.

My grandfather, Rabbi Moses Steinberg, immigrated to the United States from Odessa, Russia, and felt the need to create a new religion: Americanism. His dream combined Judaism and the Constitution.

In addition to translating the Sermon on the Mount for the Smithsonian Institution Bible, he published a book himself, “The Greatest Story Never Told.” I found long letters to politicians in the many papers left to me when my family died, as lung cancer took them one by one. His letters seemed to transmogrify a miscellaneous political detail into an erupting volcano. They didn’t make much sense to me. I suspect schizophrenia caressed him.

However, the shtetl he fled when the Cossacks burned it down had a tradition. The men studied Torah; the women worked. My grandmother Annie arrived in America on Sept. 19, 1906 on the SS Carmania and saw the Statue of Liberty.

I can only imagine what this meant to her after feeling the heat and fear of the fires that burned her world to the ground. She sewed to support the family.

My mother told me that Annie could make a dress out of less fabric than anyone else she’d ever met because she knew where to cut. There was genius in Annie, and madness in Moses. Their daughter Dorothy was older sister to Benjamin, my father.

All great artists live on the fine line separating genius and madness. My father grew up in a world where immigrant Jews worshiped Heifitz’s mother, who locked him in a room daily for 8 hours to make him practice. Only then could he eat.

Misha Elmann was another star in that world. I have an autographed picture of him calling my father one of his best friends. Everyone wanted their child to be the next Misha Elmann.

My father made his Town Hall debut on the violin when he was 9. On the program was a Hebrew Dance by Achron, and he ended with the Polonaise Brilliante in A Major by Wieniawsky, one of the most technically difficult pieces in the violin repertoire. They marketed him as Little Ben.

But he went on to be in the first violin section of the NBC Symphony, study conducting with Fritz Reiner, conduct the original Music Man, Peter Pan, and West Side Story on Broadway, hire the first African-American musician in a Broadway pit orchestra against the segregation laws in the 1940s, conduct the Ballet Russes de Monte Carlo, American Ballet Theatre, the Ballet Nacional de Cuba, and started the first integrated orchestra in America, The Symphony of the New World. Leonard Bernstein wrote the letter recommending the project for the Ford Foundation grant.

Like Moses, my father was also a visionary. He was just not “touched by the angels.” He dreamed of social equality coming to life on the symphony orchestra’s stage.

The first African-American woman timpanist ever hired by the San Francisco Symphony came out of The Symphony of the New World, so did the first woman accepted into the violin section of the New York Philharmonic, so did the first African-American cellist in the New York City Ballet Orchestra.

The Symphony of the New World died because there was a power struggle, and those who won didn’t know how to pay the bills of a non-profit organization. My mother saved all the papers.

It took him a year an a half to die of pancreatic and lung cancer in our one-bedroom Manhattan apartment. On January 4, 1974, my mother held his hand. I went to school. When I came home, he was gone. I will never forget his yellow skin, but I think he died of a broken heart.

Someone he knew back then wrote

Where is your grave –
Or maybe even just a mound –
Benjamin Steinberg?
Where can we put a monument?
There is no grave.
You cannot be frozen into a statue,
Like some docile teacher’s pet.
You blaze
From the pedastals of the world stage,
Benjamin Steinberg.

Thirty-five years later, because I still cannot come to terms with losing the only soul’s reflection I have ever known, I wrote this:

In the name of the father
In the name of the daughter
In the name of justice
Over unnecessary death

In the name of his symphony
Whose light might shine
On another day
For this generation
To stand for peace

I wasn’t a good enough violinist to do what my father dreamed for me: make my Carnegie Hall Debut before I was 18, or be in the NY Philharmonic. I never could concentrate to practice enough.

I discovered my art form in 1994. It was online community vision, creation, management, moderation, writing, and multimedia. In that field, no one had to tell me to practice.

There is a Hebrew prayer for Yom Kippur, “In Memory of a Father.” It says in part, “In loving testimony to his life I pledge charity to help perpetuate ideals important to him… May I prove myself worthy of the gift of life and the many other gifts he gave me. May these moments of meditation link me more strongly with his memory.”

I have tried to fulfill this all of my life, even though I never knew this prayer existed until I was 50. DNA might be strong in pureblood Russian Ashkenzay Jews, but what can you do when you come from a man like this?

Whether I succeeded or failed, I am the last in line. I don’t have much time. Writing this blog is something. Anything, to pay homage to his name and finally come to terms with who I am, and realize that my whole life has been a love poem to him.

In 1994, I turned on the computer. In 1997, I went to the Interactive Telecommunications Program at NYU and learned that the purpose of online community was to stop war. Then, I based my life on my own words:

The product that an online community gives away is power. Members invest their emotions in one, and the community gives them back a stake in its future, its philosophy and its governance. …to create a stage where you can be understood when society ignores you. …to feel the warmth of someone’s soul imprint through their words, even when they live thousands of miles away. …to find validity when the real world is blind to you. …to find a soul mate when your body is wasting away from disease. These are some of the reasons why people who are involved in online communities are so passionate about them. They can give you the power to control your dignity.

I’ve devoted 15 years to being a member of online communities, helping to create its collective storytelling art, and working in the field. This book is a collection of the essays I wrote as I share the journey of my real and virtual lives, which became intertwined as one inseparable reality.

El mismo mar, de Amos Oz, fue publicado por Siruela en 2006, dentro de su colección Nuevos Tiempos. La edición original, de 1999, fue traducida del hebreo al español por  Raquel García Lozano.  [Encontré este libro hace muchos años, lo poco que hojeé bastaron para buscarlo cada cierto tiempo en las librerías de viejo, aunque sabía que la empresa tendía al fracaso porque; desconozco si los derechos o la traducción de la obra costaron demasiado, pero en especial este libro y los demás del autor son bastante más caros que lo acostumbrado en Siruela, descontando a Sloterdijk, por supuesto. Finalmente, el dios de los judíos me condujo a Oz hace unas semanas. Lo encontré en el pasaje del Palacio de Minería, que los fines de semana sirve de tianguis de libros usados y pude negociar para que la vendedora me descontara otros 30 pesos de lo que pedía, me lo llevé a casa por 140. Gracias por el maná para el librero.]

El personaje es la infancia.

Siempre hubo niños, claro, pero ¿cuándo se inventa la infancia? Jim Yang afirma —porque yo se lo hago decir— que la idea de infancia se construye en la Inglaterra victoriana. Antes, durante todo el siglo XVIII, los niños no habían sido considerados otra cosa que adultos en miniatura, animales casi salvajes y pícaros, envases vacíos que debían llenarse con el líquido y la materia del conocimiento básico para que crecieran rápido y ocuparan pronto el sitio en la sociedad que les correspondía o que les había tocado en suerte.

La llegada de los románticos comienza a alterar esta obligación y, de pronto la infancia no es una página en blanco sino un pesado manuscrito en clave, lleno de extrañas ideas y portentosos pensamientos que esperan ser decodificados por adultos que no han crecido del todo. O que han crecido diferentes. Suelen ser solteros o no tener hijos. Suelen crear pequeños libros inmensos. A través de todos esos libros para niños escritos por escritores victorianos a los que los niños les producen una extraña y hasta entonces inédita simpatía. Lewis Carroll, Charles Kingsley, Edward Lear, Frances Hodgson Burnett, Kenneth Grahame, A. A. Milne. Espejos que atravesar, viento soplando en los sauces, ositos y topos, pequeños lords y pequeñas princesas y, lo más importante de todo: jardines secretos. Todos estos libros tienen algo en común: el territorio de un lugar escondido al que sólo se puede acceder si se hacen los méritos suficientes. Una transparente idea del Edén recuperado. De acuerdo, los padres fueron expulsados de allí por sus pecados; pero los niños pueden aventurarse a buscarlo, encontrar el camino de vuelta, regresar. Lo importante ese, de  pronto, crecer lo menos posible, ser pequeño para poder pasar por las pequeñas puertas mágicas.

Y creer.

Yo creo en Peter Pan porque una mañana —yo no puedo tener  más de cinco años, todavía leo letra a letra, palabra a palabra, oración a oración— voy caminando por los jardines de Neverland. Es el amanecer o la muerte de una de las largas fiestas de mis padres y el aire está lleno de despedidas, de motores que se encienden, de gente bajando muy despacio por escaleras cubriéndose los ojos para que la luz del sol no empeore todavía más esa jaqueca lunática.

La necesidad de alejarme de la casa. Tal vez para siempre. Recuerdo sentir eso. Y pensar que tal vez trepe a los árboles del bosque de Sad Songs para ya no bajar nunca. Camino con las manos en los bolsillos y llego hasta la glorieta que hay en el parque y en la que a veces ensayan The Victorians y entro allí y —misterio de misterios— en el suelo hay un libro y ese libro se titula Peter Pan.

Lo abro.
Entro.
Leo:
Todos los niños, menos uno, crecen.
Ya nunca saldré de ahí.

En Jardines de Kensington, Rodrigo Fresán intentó hacer una biografía no rigurosa del escritor inglés James Matthew Barrie, autor del clásico libro infantil mencionado. Valorado por diversos críticos como una pluma importante de la narrativa iberoamericana contemporánea, personalmente le debo varios descubrimientos musicales que hacen mejor mi colección: gracias a sus colaboraciones en el suplemento Radar, del diario argentino Página/12, conocí el trabajo de Jim White y The La’s. No he podido constatarlo, pero se dice que Mantra es su obra más interesante.

Además de la ilustración de una de las varias pruebas para detectar daltonismo y de la viñeta, de alguna forma inspirada en el canción The Teddy Bears Picnic, me pareció importante rescatar la foto que le realizó Terry Richardson a Macaulay Culkin, convertido en ojeroso y junkie Peter Pan. Casualidad aparte la relación del actor infantil con Michael Jackson, quien llamara Neverland a su hogar-parque de diversiones.

No, tutto il giorno in casa è meglio di no e quindi verso le sei, quando sembra che non debba piovere, dopo un po’ di Good Wife e un po’ di Simenon, scendo a buttare la spazzatura e a fare quattro passi. Rue Monge, Maubert, superiamo la Senna, ciao Notre Dame, insomma arrivo al Beaubourg, così do un’occhiata ai libri. Credo di scoprire che Baltrusaitis non è morto ma mi accorgo di sbagliarmi, evito di comprare un libro e poi faccio per uscire.

Nella sezione cartoline c’è una famiglia e il mio sguardo già lo sa che sono italiani, ancora prima di sentirli parlare (dico parlare perché in Italia il loro sarebbe parlare, mentre qui sembra gridare). Sono napoletani, cinque figli meno che decenni (almeno due sono gemelli), la madre ha i capelli tirati su con una molletta, è esausta ed è una donna, il marito invece non vuole essere un uomo e quindi ha una bisaccia A Style, il codino, una giacchetta sportiva e la kefiah. Sì. una kefiah con una bisaccia A Style.

Li ho subito riconosciuti perché sono replicanti di categorie che ho negli occhi e nella testa: il quarantenne che non vuol crescere e che rifugge dalle respnsabilità, la donna che lavora, torna a casa, tiene a bada una mandria di figli e si sente stanca e frustrata, i bambini che fan quel che vogliono.  Allora mi sono resonconto del perché mi hanno colpito: queste persone qui non ci sono. Questo non vuol dire che non ci siano quarantenni peterpan o che i francesi siano migliori, anzi. Soltanto che non sono così riconoscibili, non sono un gruppo così evidente, così strutturante la società. Allora ho pensato alle categorie che imperversano in Italia e che mi pare di non vedere qui. I truzzi, ad esempio. O i tronisti. Neanche a cercarli col lanternino, nessun effetto bagnato, niente cappellini da baseball, niente felpe con i nomi di città / di quartiere / di rione, niente unghie iperlaccate, niente abbronzature fuori stagione, niente manifestazioni di odio cieco, non al modo delle bimbominkia sugli autobus genovesi (o sugli interregionali tortonesi, o in piazza Donghi).

La prima conclusione che si potrebbe trarre è che Parigi sia una città debimbominkizzata: forse sono tutti in provincia o in banlieue. In verità credo che il distillato di deprivazioni economiche, culturali e affettive che ha comportato in Italia la nascita (e la gloria) della bimbominkiaggine abbia avuto in Francia esiti differenti, che non ho ancora individuato.

Analogamente, ovvio, ci sono categorie francesi che in Italia non si vedono, tipo le vecchiette che parlano da sole e pur di comunicare con qualcuno ti abbordano con la scusa di non trovare la salsa roquefort. Sono le stesse che pagano con gli assegni al supermercato, o che impiegano cinque minuti a spulciare il porte monnaie alla ricerca dell’ultimo centesimo per saldare il conto e ti chiedi da quant’è che parlano con qualcuno che non sia il loro cane.

Perché hanno tutte un cane, tra l’altro.
