Stilato un decalogo per chi volesse ambire alla candidatura ai Giochi. Il presidente Petrucci: “Per ora so di Venezia e Roma, delle altre prendo atto dai giornali”

ROMA, 21 ottobre 2009 – Prima Venezia, poi Roma. Poi Bari, Palermo e forse anche Milano. La corsa alla candidatura per i Giochi estivi del 2020 sta diventando una piccola farsa all’italiana, ma il Coni non ci sta e butta sul tavolo un decalogo severo a cui tutti devono attenersi. Dieci punti per fare ordine e chiarezza sulla metodologia da rispettare onde evitare che, come aveva detto il presidente Gianni Petrucci, “si sfornino candidature come pizze”. “Il decalogo detta le condizioni in base alle quali una città può definirsi candidata” ha spiegato Petrucci, sottolineando che la delibera della Giunta è stata unanime nel voler mettere nero su bianco i criteri. Proprio per fare ulteriore chiarezza Petrucci ha aggiunto: “Le due candidature ufficiali, quelle fatte per bene con i sindaci Alemanno e Cacciari, sono Venezia e Roma. Delle altre due (Bari e Palermo ndr) ne prendiamo atto dai giornali”.

Questo il decalogo varato:

1 – È fatto assoluto divieto di utilizzare i cerchi olimpici e ogni simbologia legata ai Giochi olimpici se non è stata ottenuta la preventiva autorizzazione del Cio, attraverso il Comitato olimpico nazionale.
2 - È fatto assoluto divieto di definirsi Città richiedente (“applicant City”) finquando il Comitato olimpico nazionale non ha approvato tale richiesta.
3 – Il Coni non potrà prendere in esame richieste di candidature da parte di Autorità di enti territoriali o di altri soggetti che non abbiano la legale rappresentanza della Città (art. 34, Carta olimpica).
4 - Nel caso in cui ci siano più potenziali Città richiedenti nello stesso Paese agli stessi Giochi olimpici, solo una Città potrà essere proposta, così come deciso dal rispettivo Comitato olimpico nazionale competente.
5 – Ogni Comitato olimpico nazionale è responsabile dell’osservanza e del rispetto della Carta olimpica nel proprio Paese.
6 – La Giunta Nazionale per dare attuazione a quanto previsto dalla Carta olimpica, in caso di pluralità di presentazione di richieste, seguirà un’analoga procedura con quanto avviene in ambito Cio, ovvero farà precedere la fase di scelta definitiva del Consiglio nazionale da una fase di minuziosa pre-selezione da parte della Giunta nazionale.
7 – A tal uopo la Giunta ha nominato un Comitato ristretto, composto delle più elevate rappresentanze istituzionali del Coni (Presidente, vicepresidenti e segretario generale), dai membri italiani del Cio e da un rappresentante degli atleti per l’istruzione tecnica delle proposte pervenute.
8 – In detta fase di pre-selezione delle candidature, la Giunta nazionale si conformerà ai criteri tecnici generali e ai termini temporali prioritariamente individuati dal Consiglio nazionale, in ossequio alle norme ed alla prassi adottate al riguardo dal Cio.
9 - Solo dopo questa fase e sulla base del rapporto di valutazione del comitato ristretto, la Giunta proporrà alla sessione del Consiglio nazionale del Coni I il nominativo o i nominativi delle Città che avranno superato la pre-selezione.
10 – Le città presentate dai singoli Comitati nazionali olimpici al Cio (“applicant City”) diventeranno “Città candidate” solo in base a una decisione del Comitato esecutivo del Cio che, a quel punto, le proporrà per la votazione della sessione del Cio.

Heute ist der offizielle Dream Theater Tag!

Kommt mir gerade recht, ich wusste nämlich nicht, worüber ich heute schreiben soll. ._.

Also… Dream Theater! Was macht diese Band so toll, dass sie ihren eigenen Tag haben? Nun, die Geschichte des Dream Theater Tages war eigentlich ziemlich simpel. Der Gouverneur von Utah war am 30. Juli auf einem Dream Theater Konzert der Chaos in Motion Tour und war so von denen beeindruckt, dass er den Dream Theater Tag einführte. Cool, nicht wahr?

Aber kommen wir zu der Awesomeness von Dream Theater. Das was Dream Theater genial macht, ist die Tatsache, dass bei Dream Theater jedes Mitglied überragende, musikalische Begabung hat. John Petrucci zum Beispiel. Gibt es irgendwelche Zweifel, dass er Gott ist? Ich meine, schaut euch die Solos einzelner DT Mitglieder auf YouTube an! Sie legen absolute Technikfeuerwerke ab.

Woher kommt’s? Nun, die meißten betreiben Musik seit ihrem Kindesalter, wie zum Beispiel Rudess, oder waren auf einer guten Musikschule, wie Myung, Petrucci und Portnoy auf Berklee. James LaBrie war in der Vorzeit von DT ein Opernsänger.

Da Dream Theater sehr begabt ist, heißt es nicht, dass sie 4.000.000 Noten die Sekunde spielen, nein, sie spielen melodisch. Sie spielen Songs mit komplexem Aufbau. Als Derek Sherenian (Ex Keyboard) die Noten für die Songs sah, die er lernen musste, dachte er sich: “WTF?!”, und er ist ein sehr virtouser Keyboard-Spieler.

Auch von der textlichen Seite zeigt sich Dream Theater von der besten Seite. Viele sind mit den persönlichen Erlebnissen der Bandmitglieder verbunden wie Glass Prison mit der früheren Alkoholsucht von Portnoy oder A Nightmare to Remember mit einem Autounfall aus Petruccis Kindheit.

Außerdem hat Dream Theater eine sehr starke Fanbase, die sie absolut vergöttert. Sie reisen in andere Länder um ihre Lieblingsband zu sehen. Einige Fans sagen, dass Dream Theater wie eine Religion ist. Da Petrucci ein Gott ist und 5 Milliarden Noten die Sekunde spielen kann, wundert es mich nicht.

Aber das, was Dream Theater am tollsten macht, sie die Persönlichekiten der Mitglieder. Sicher, man kann es so nicht beurteilen, wenn man sie noch nie traf, aber wenn man schon mal Live Konzerte von denen gesehen hat, weiß man, was ich meine. Damit meine ich aber nicht die offiziellen Aufnahmen wie Live Scenes from New York, Chaos in Motion oder Once in a LIVETime, nein, ich meine das, was von den Fans aufgenommen wird.

Durch sowas und ihre Making Ofs werden es nicht irgendwelche Musiker, sondern Leute mit denen man Spaß haben kann. Man fängt an, sich für die Musiker auf menschlicher Ebene zu interessieren und das hat bisher keine Band für mich geschafft.

Dream Theaters Einstellung gegenüber Musik ist ebenfalls genial. Sie sind nicht auf Komerz aus. Sicher, bei den Alben wie Falling into Inifinity und Awake hatten sie jemanden im Nacken sitzen. Bei Scenes From a Memory hatten sie volle Freiheit, was sie tun. Es wird als eines der besten Dream Theater Alben angesehen. Dream Theater will bei ihrer Musik immernoch Spaß machen und diesen Spaß an der Musik überbringt Dream Theater mit ihren Liedern.

Vielen Dank Dream Theater! Bleibt so wie ihr seit, ich freue mich auf weitere Alben.

Dichiarazione di Luca Cangemi, Segretario regionale siciliano del PRC

Il Partito della Rifondazione Comunista e il Partito dei Comunisti Italiani hanno presentato un esposto alla Procura della Repubblica di Palermo sulla situazione di gravissima irregolarità in cui versa la gestione dei parchi in Sicilia.
Iniziative analoghe verranno promosse da rappresentanti istituzionali e cittadini dei comuni ricadenti nel territorio dei singoli parchi siciliani.
La situazione denunciata rappresenta un clamoroso esempio del malgoverno, a cui è sottoposto ogni settore dell’amministrazione pubblica in Sicilia, attraverso lo strumento dei commissariamenti, di un’emergenza che diventa norma e contesto ideale per operazioni di un sistema di  potere sempre più pervasivo. Su questo terreno la continuità “metodologica” tra Cuffaro e  Lombardo è assoluta. La legislazione vigente prevede che i parchi abbiano come legale rappresentante e principale organo di direzione amministrativa il presidente dell’Ente, che riveste delicatissime funzioni connesse alla gestione di uno straordinario patrimonio. Ebbene oggi in nessuno dei Parchi siciliani è presente tale figura, sostituita da commissari straordinari, nominati con decreto dell’Assessorato per il Territorio e l’Ambiente. I motivi di tale clamorosa e prolungata omissione sono chiari: la difficoltà a trovare un equilibrio lottizzatorio condiviso tra partiti, correnti e gruppi di pressione, l’opportunità di rendere possibile la reiterazione di promesse a procacciatori di voti, la funzionalità di una guida debole e delegittimata per coprire politiche fallimentari e pratiche clientelari.
Altrettanto chiare sono le gravissime conseguenze per le comunità che insistono sui territori dei Parchi e per tutta la Sicilia.
I commissari per le loro caratteristiche –ed anche per la loro qualità di dipendenti della Regione- suppliscono alla funzione delicatissima del presidente senza respiro progettuale, in modo assolutamente burocratico, spesso senza assicurare la presenza necessaria. Il risultato è la mancata salvaguardia e valorizzazione di strategiche risorse ambientali che potrebbero costituire per la nostra Regione- così come avviene concretamente in altri parti d’Italia e d’Europa – un grande fattore di qualità della vita ed un’occasione di sviluppo.
Invece in Sicilia abbiamo una non adeguata programmazione, progettazione e spesa all’interno dei programmi comunitari,  nessuna iniziative mirante allo sviluppo turistico del parco e delle zone interessate, ritardi nella valutazione dei progetti, con un arretrato di diversi anni sui pareri di competenza del parco, una adesione ai GAL (gruppi di azione locale) spesso solo formale, condotto senza il necessario contributo di partecipazione proposta e gestione nelle iniziative del LEADER per lo sviluppo delle aree rurali e dell’agricoltura, il mancato decollo del progetto legato alla rete ecologica, una inadeguata partecipazione alla associazione nazionale dei parchi per mancanza di credibilità ed autorevolezza del commissario rappresentante il parco stesso.
L’intervento della magistratura ci appare urgente e necessario di fronte ad una costante violazione di precise disposizioni di legge, compiuta con la finalità evidente di piegare agli interessi di ristretti gruppi di potere le risorse economiche e le strutture organizzative di enti pubblici, nonché l’immenso patrimonio naturale ad essi affidato.
Sui Parchi apriamo, dunque, una battaglia importante per la legalità e per una nuova stagione di sviluppo.
Indichiamo la necessità e la possibilità concreta che essi diventino centro di sperimentazione di un diverso modello di rapporto con il territorio, capace di valorizzare sapere e risorse e di offrire un contributo significativo alla qualità della vita in Sicilia
A questa battaglia chiamiamo tutti i cittadini, le comunità locali, le associazioni.

Alla Procura della Repubblica di Palermo

 Oggetto: Irregolarità negli organi di gestione  degli Enti Parco in Sicilia

Con la presente si intende porre all’attenzione dell’ Ufficio in indirizzo il grave stato di irregolarità gestionale ed amministrativa in cui versano i quattro Enti Parco della Regione Siciliana.
Per gli effetti delle leggi vigenti gli stessi hanno come legale rappresentante e principale organo di direzione amministrativa il presidente dell’Ente, oggi in nessuno di essi è presente tale figura, infatti sono presenti dei commissari straordinari, nominati con Decreto dell’Assessorato per il Territorio e l’Ambiente che di fatto hanno surrogato in maniera stabile la funzione dei presidenti.
Si ritiene utile evidenziare le situazioni oggi presenti in ciascuno dei quattro parchi.
Il Parco dell’Etna è in atto rappresentato dal Commissario Straordinario Dott. Foti, dipendente della Regione Siciliana, insediatosi il 17/10/2007, in sostituzione del precedente commissario Pietro Alfredo Scaffidi Abbate, già in carica dal 03/01/2007.
Il Parco delle Madonie  è in atto rappresentato dal Commissario Straordinario Dott. Arch. Angelo Aliquò, con decreto n. 70/Gab del 9 aprile 2008 dell’Assessore Regionale per il Territorio e l’ambiente.
Il Parco dei Nebrodi è in atto rappresentato dal Commissario Straordinario Dott. Antonio Ceraolo, all’atto della nomina nell’ottobre 2007 già dipendente dell’ufficio di Gabinetto dell’Assessorato regionale Territorio e Ambiente e nominato in sostituzione di altro Commissario.
Il Parco dell’Alcantara supera tutte le anomalie immaginabili, infatti, non ha mai avuto un Presidente ma solo due commissari.
Con decreto n. 317/Gab del 21 febbraio 2007 dell’Assessore regionale per il territorio e l’ambiente, viene revocato il proprio decreto n. 436/11 del 21 giugno 2001, con il quale, ai  sensi dell’art. 34, comma 1, della legge regionale 9 agosto 1988, n. 14, l’ing. Giuseppe Giacalone era stato nominato commissario straordinario dell’Ente Parco fluviale dell’Alcantara, istituito con legge 3 maggio 2001, n. 6, e viene nominato, ai sensi dell’art. 34, comma 1, della legge regionale 9 agosto 1988, n. 14, il dott. agr. Giuseppe Castellana, dirigente della Regione siciliana, commissario straordinario dell’Ente Parco fluviale dell’Alcantara, istituito con legge 3 maggio 2001, n. 6, sino alla data di insediamento del presidente.
La situazione sopra descritta reca sicuramente danno alla funzionalità, alla regolarità ed ai ruoli di rappresentanza che la presenza di un presidente regolarmente nominato può svolgere.
Nella fattispecie la presenza di un commissario straordinario, peraltro dipendente della Regione, consente allo stesso di svolgere tale attività in un tempo assolutamente parziale.
Basta considerare quali sono per statuto le attribuzioni del Presidente per capire la gravità della situazione perpetrata in atto da molti anni a questa parte, rinviando la definizione dei ruoli dei presidenti ad una attività puramente lottizzatoria dei partiti che notoriamente da tempo non riescono più a trovare accordi al loro interno al discapito del bene della collettività e degli enti amministrati.

Il Presidente viene nominato con decreto del Presidente della Regione, previa delibera della Giunta di Governo, ha la rappresentanza legale dell’Ente, sia in sede amministrativa che in sede  contenziosa ed esercita le seguenti funzioni:
• assume tutte le iniziative idonee al raggiungimento delle finalità istitutive;
• convoca e presiede il consiglio del Parco ed il comitato esecutivo, determinandone gli argomenti da trattare;
• adotta i provvedimenti per far fronte a situazioni di urgenza, di competenza del Comitato esecutivo, sottoponendoli alla ratifica dello stesso, nella prima riunione successiva alla loro adozione;
• riferisce al consiglio in merito al bilancio di previsione, alle relative variazioni ed al bilancio consuntivo, predisposti dai competenti uffici dell’Ente;
• provvede alla destinazione del personale, disponendone l’assegnazione ai vari uffici ed al mantenimento della disciplina;
• vigila sulla esecuzione delle deliberazioni del consiglio e del comitato esecutivo e sull’andamento dell’Ente;
• firma gli atti riguardanti la gestione, nonché le istruzioni, le circolari e gli ordini di pagamento delle somme stanziate negli articoli del bilancio;
• adotta tutti gli atti che la legge attribuisce alla sua competenza.
Così come indicato negli statuti la responsabilità della nomina dei Presidenti dei Parchi è del Presidente della Regione e della Giunta di Governo.
A seguito di quanto su esposto si intende informare le SS.VV. di questo stato di irregolarità nelle suddette gestioni, e in considerazione della assoluta semplicità della procedura di nomina del Presidente, è opportuno che si ravvisino gli abusi, le omissioni ed eventuali reati nel comportamento del Presidente della Regione e della Giunta Regionale che non risultano a tutt’oggi aver adempiuto a tali nomine, né pare abbiano iscritto all’ordine del giorno dei lavori della Giunta Regionale le nomine di cui alla presente.

Octavarium - Dream Theater (2005)

Ya me ha pasado varias veces que me he tenido que comer mis palabras cuando he hablado ‘mal’ de un grupo y una de esas veces ha sido con Dream Theater. Siempre decía que su música me aburría, que no sopotaba esas canciónes tan largas, etc. Evidentemente decía eso bajo un inmenso desconocimiento sobre el grupo, solo había escuchando unas cuantas canciónes sueltas,  y como bien se dice, no se debe opinar de lo que no se sabe.  Como a lo largo de todos estos años he visto a muchísima gente completamente fascinada con la música de Dream Theater, crónicas excelentes y de alta nota (todos sus discos obtienen una calificación de 8, 9 /10), pues me dije que ya era el momento de ponerme por delante toda su discografía y empaparme de todo. Y así fue, sin ningún tipo de orden, fui escuchando sus discos, el primero, Octavarium, ¿por qué?, pues sencillamente porque me llamó muchísimo la atención su portada, que más adelante comentaré la cantidad de detalles ocultos que ésta tiene, es fascinante.

Antes que nada, mucho más tarde de haber saboreado bien los discos de Dream Theater, leí que Octavarium era uno de los discos más flojos de la banda en comparación con los demás. Yo ahí no me meto, puesto que no soy un entendido del grupo y mucho menos del Rock Progresivo, así que ahí lo dejo. Sólo puedo decir, que Octavarium es probablemente de los discos que más he escuchado en este último año.

Es el octavo album del grupo, de ahí su nombre. Decir que el número ocho, en este trabajo es muy importante, pero ya hablamos de ello más adelante. El disco comienza con una sóla nota musical, para dar paso a un excelente tema, ‘The Root of All Evil’, que comienza con unos riff de guitarras bastante pesados, muy heavys. La melodía de esta canción es genial, muy acertada. Aunque dure 8:24, la canción no se hace larga, para nada. Es un tema fantástico, con un James LaBrie superior, como siempre. Este señor, tiene una voz grandísima, preciosa, pero para ello no hace falta escuchar todo lo de Dream Theater, con escuchar una canción solamente, te das cuenta que es un gran vocalista, de los mejores que hay actualmente. De esta canción, destaco su estribillo, pero tambien su final, vuelta a las notas de piano, que poco a poco nos presentan una hermosa balada, ‘The Answer Lies Within’, la cual me pone los bellos de punta ya que me recuerda a una etapa muy emotiva de mi vida. Piano, violín y un Labrie excelente, hacen que este tema tenga unas melodías preciosas. Su duración es de 5:32, pero al tener tantos pasajes lentos (ya que es una balada), se hace un poco larga.

Le sigue ‘These Walls’, un tema al principio no me caló mucho, pero con contínuas escuchas me ha ganado más. Las escenas vocales son muy buenas. Lo que destaco de este tema es la sincronización entre Petrucci y Rudess, sobre todo casi al final.

‘I Walk Beside You’. Juro por Dios, que cuando escuché este tema, parecía que estaba escuchando a U2, sobre todo por el estribillo, pensé que sería cosa mía, pero me sorprendí cuando leí en foros/revistas que todo el mundo opina igual. Y es que por ello me enteré, que U2 es de las bandas favoritas de James Labrie, y gran influencia para la banda y la verdad, con esta canción, lo deja bien claro ¡y mucho!. La cancion es genial, un estribillo que a cualquiera le gustaría, sobre todo si esa persona es fan de Bono y compañía. Las melodías son geniales. ¡Perfecta!.

Con ‘Panic Attack’ volvemos al lado más heavy de Dream Theater. Se puede apreciar de nuevo, a un Rudess esplendido. El tema es bastante duro, rápido, es una verdadera apisonadora. ‘Never Enough’ no es un buen tema, es un temazo. Tiene unas melodías muy buenas, y sobre todo el estribillo donde LaBrie nos deleita con sus tonos altos. Genial, ¡bravo!

‘Sacrificed Sons’ parece ser una balada, pero luego obtiene una fuerza instrumental de sobresaliente.  LaBrie nos regala unas partes vocales muy emotivas, hasta que llega el final, donde mejor no podría ser. Creo que es de las mejores del disco sin duda.

Ahora llega el postre, ¡y menudo postre!. Un tema de 23:56 minutos de duración exactamente. Es la canción que le da nombre al disco, Octavarium. Una auténtica pasada. Rock Progresivo en estado puro. Aquí todos se lucen, pero el que más, vuelve a ser Rudess y LaBrie. Creo que Jordan Rudess es el que más destaca en este album.

Por todos es dicho, que ni de lejos es el mejor disco de Dream Theater, y así será, yo no me meto, pero es un gran disco, al menos para mí y quería hablar un poco de él. Altamente recomendado a todos los que le guste escuchar música de verdad. Es una maravilla. Y Dream Theater, un grupo de culto dónde los haya.

Como dije en un principio, la portada del disco y el número ocho, tienen mucha importancia en este disco y aquí os dejo un enlace de la Wikipedia que lo explica muy bien. Yo tengo que decir, que para estas cosas no tengo muy buen ojo, y creo, que si no llega a ser por Internet, nunca me hubiese dado cuenta, o quizás sí, pero no tan detalladamente.

So Dream Theater’s latest album finally came out. After the horrible letdown that was Systematic Chaos, I couldn’t wait to see how hard they’d fail on their next attempt. I remembered eagerly waiting for Systematic Chaos’s release way back when, only to be horribly, horribly let down. It almost felt like Dream Theater had trolled me. It was a kind of disappointment that I simply couldn’t handle again. As a result, I listened to this new one expecting to be disappointed. Let me talk about this for a bit…

Dream Theater is a Progressive Metal band. They feature some of the most talented musicians on the planet: John Petrucci on guitar, John Myung on bass, Jordan Rudess on keyboards (and sometimes lap steel guitar), and Mike Portnoy on drums. It’s like a dream team, the likes of which you only see on all-star lineups that usually only release a cover song or something and then never work with each other again. Fortunately for us, Dream Theater has been together for more than twenty five years now and we have just now been blessed with their eleventh offering.

However, Dream Theater, since the release of Scenes from a Memory (1999), had noticeably been heading away from the “progressive” and more into the “metal”. They got heavier and heavier with each passing album with odd detours in one direction or another with each one. Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence (2002) was a heavier rather experimental album considering its direct predecessor that never liked to stay in one place. They then took a nose-dive into the Thrashy end of the metal pool with Train of Thought (2003). Octavarium (2005) went back in the more Alternative direction with a lot of influence from the likes of Muse and a lot of very standard and relatively unimaginative song structures. Systematic Chaos (2007) sort of mixed Train and Octavarium together, featuring both more accessible sounds (“Prophets of War”, “Forsaken”) as well as the heavy metal explored in Train (“Constant Motion”, “The Dark Eternal Night”).

To be honest, despite being a metalhead, I was fearing for Dream Theater. Their trend towards getting heavier and heavier was wearing me thin. In addition, they didn’t seem to understand that LaBrie’s voice was getting progressively worse and that he cannot pull off the James Hetfieldesque raspy thrash voice they so desperately want him to be able to. LaBrie’s last great performance on an album was Scenes From a Memory. His last decent one was Six Degrees. Since then, DT fans have been polarized into those in denial who cannot accept that DT has a weak link and declares LaBrie still a wonderful vocalist and those who have simply learned to tolerate him.

Like any other fan, I was anticipating DT’s newest release eagerly. However, I also expected them to fail and was even making predictions as to exactly how DT would fail this time around. The time finally came. I put on my headphones and hit play.

The first listen through blew me away. Let me be straight. This is, in my opinion, Dream Theater’s strongest release since Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence. It’s as if they took every mistake they made between then and now and actually learned from them. This is a great album. Every song feels complete and whole and each is unique and stands out on its own. The songs are all epic ballads with complete concepts in and of themselves.

One of the things I love the most about bands like Dream Theater is that they absolutely refuse to put a filler song on an album. For this reason, I’ll briefly take a closer look at each song.

The album opens with the sixteen-minute epic, “A Nightmare to Remember”. It is apparently about a car crash John Petrucci experienced. The song chronicles it in dramatic exaggeration. It is, for the most part, a heavier and darker song with a lot of blast beats and fast solos. There is one part, however, where Portnoy does this cute little rap that nearly destroys the song. Barring that, however, it’s a great and energetic opener that, in trademark Dream Theater style, takes you on a journey.

The second song is the shorter, “A Rite of Passage”. In my opinion, this is the weakest song on the album that is half the length of the first track and is half as enjoyable. If you don’t listen closely, the song passes by in relative monotony and doesn’t really feel like it goes anywhere…but at eight minutes, a song like this HAS to do something with itself. It’s still not bad, but is disappointing compared to the punch in the face that “Nightmare” was.

We then move on to “Wither”. This is, thankfully, a good song. It has a very alternative rock sound and even a very alternative rock length. While it’s short for a Dream Theater song, it is short because it needs to be. It does not overstay its welcome. Lyrically, it apparently talks about the frustrations of writers block, and is the strongest on the album in that regard, in my opinion. This song is a good and relatively soft intermission, so to speak, on the album.

The final song in Portnoy’s Twelve Step/alcoholism series is, “The Shattered Fortress”. This is the most fun song on the album solely because we finally get to see the series end. It has been years and years, and it has finally been concluded. It is a lot of fun and very nostalgic to hear melodies and riffs from all the previous songs play out together seamlessly in this one.

Next up, we have the melancholic yet light-hearted, “The Best of Times”. Written in honor of Portnoy’s father, who had been battling cancer and unfortunately passed away during the making of Black Clouds & Silver Linings, this song on the surface feels very light and happy. However, the melancholy written into the notes and lyrics makes itself evident. It is another longer song, clocking in at thirteen minutes, but most of that comes from the very long acoustic instrumental intro at the beginning.

The finisher on the album is definitely one of the strongest songs Dream Theater has ever released. “The Count of Tuscany” is an amazing nineteen-minute epic, telling the story of an encounter Petrucci had with an eccentric man while in Tuscany. The lyrics are equally quirky and entertaining. This song is a true journey in and of itself. The song is broken into four sections. The first and third are instrumental sections, the first reminiscent of “Hell’s Kitchen” from Falling into Infinity, and the second being a Rudess-centered one like the intro to “Octavarium” off of the album of the same name. The second and third sections are the parts with lyrics that tell the story. This is such a great song, I don’t know how I can do it justice in a single paragraph…it deserves a review on its own. Give it a listen, and you’ll know what I mean.

One of the things I enjoyed the most about this album was the amount of noticeable growth in Petrucci’s guitar playing. He has clearly gotten better and cleaner between Systematic Chaos and now, and it really shows. While his solos were less diverse than they have been in the past few albums, they are all still very enjoyable. His tones, however, are nothing but impressive on this album. I absolutely loved them all, and was taken aback by the amount of impact they had.

Portnoy’s drumming also matured a bit. It’s less showy than it was on Octavarium and Systematic Chaos. It’s a breath of fresh air, really, and makes the album feel a bit more balanced. Normally, I complain about drumming in metal having too little character and being too predictable. I can complain about the opposite only with a drummer of Portnoy’s caliber, who is unmatched in the world.

Myung is…Myung. His bass had its peak on “Metropolis” with his one solo and since then has stayed pretty much the same. This album is no different, though we do see more parts where the bass plays a melody independent from the guitar.

Rudess’s tones improve with every album, and this one is no exception. The tones he uses on solos on this album are particularly remarkable. The solos themselves are, as always, in trademark manic and abstract Rudess style, and they are fun as they always are. Everyone talks shit when a guitarist spews out too many notes, but never when a keyboardist does. Rudess knows that and abuses the hell out of that double standard.

LaBrie’s vocals have improved slightly from Systematic Chaos (where he was abysmal), but is nowhere near Octavarium’s level, while Images/Scenes/Six Degrees feel like a distant dream from another life.

I’ve said it already, but I’ll say it again. This is one of Dream Theater’s best albums. It’s difficult to rank them in any linear order, but it’s definitely up there with Scenes and Six Degrees. It is an epic album full of ballads. It maintains the heavier tendency DT has leaned towards since Six Degrees, but brings back the progressive all DT fans have been missing. I am so glad this album turned out this way, and so will you, if you haven’t listened to it already. Go pick it up right now.

This is an extraordinarily long review, I realize, and I apologize…but there’s just too much to say about this wonderful album.

Stosunkowo długo zwlekałem z recenzją nowego albumu Dream Theater pt. Black Clouds & Silver Linings, bo odkąd zacząłem go słuchać mojej głowy nie opuszczają liczne niepokolorowane myśli, które to jednak dzień po dniu nabierają wyraźniejszych barw. Dzisiaj, tydzień od premiery, jestem już mądrzejszy na tyle by napisać słowo o kolejnym albumie progresywnych mistrzów.

Trwający ponad 75 minut album otwiera szesnastominutowy A Nightmare To Remember. Klasyczny wstęp Rudessa pozostaje niezauważony w obliczu instrumentalnego monumentu, charakterystycznego nawet dla thrash/heavy metalowych wejść. Zresztą zespół utrzymuje się w tej konwencji przez pierwszą część utworu – jest ciężko, szybko, o wiele bardziej metalowo niż progresywnie. Chciałbym aby tak grały dzisiaj zespoły heavy metalowe! No, ale Dream Theater po tej lekcji pt. “jak powinien wyglądać heavy metal” jeszcze w tym utworze schodzi na progresywne fragmenty, stopniowo manipulując tempem. Ten wściekły numer wreszcie wyhamowuje na strunach Petrucciego, z tylko delikatnymi uderzeniami perkusji Portnoya i równie łagodnym brzdękaniem Myunga. Także i LaBrie już nie wrzeszczy, a zaczyna swobodnie śpiewać.  W pewnym momencie czuć typowy klimat Dream Theater, a z wcześniejszego heavy metalowego powera pozostaje jedynie wrażenie. Takie Dream Theater znane choćby z Octavarium czy Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence kończy się pod koniec utworu, powracając do wcześniejszych szybkich i ciężkich sygnałów z efektownymi solówkami (i wokalem) Petrucciego. Ożywia się także Portnoy.

A Rite Of Passage znane z okrojonej wersji jako singiel promujący album, na płytce jest o kilka minut wydłużone. Utwór ten bardzo dużo na tym zyskuje, bo porozciągane riffy, solówki i klawisze prezentują się porywająco. Nawet pomimo, że ten kawałek ma w sobie coś z radiowych kompromisów to jednak nie przeszkadza to w jego odbiorze. W pierwszych, jeszcze przedpremierowych przesłuchaniach w ogóle go nie doceniłem, a teraz wydaje mi się mocnym punktem albumu. Dodatkowo podkreślają to różne, nazwijmy to “dalekowschodnie” zapożyczenia.

Najkrótszy utwór na płycie, pięciu i pół minutowy Wither, to Dream Theater w wydaniu balladowym. LaBrie nawet nie próbuje osiągać jakichkolwiek nieartykułowanych dźwięków, po prostu śpiewając niemal jak w popowej piosence. Tyle, że jego wokal otacza cała gama instrumentów skutecznie dodających Witherowi przejmującego, nostalgicznego klimatu. Oczywiście przyprawionego prog rockowo-metalowym aromatem. To jedyny utwór, w którym nic nie zaskakuje i nic się nie zmienia.

Jako, że nie mam w zwyczaju śledzić prywatnych spraw muzyków i nie poddawałem specjalnej analizie tekstów Dream Theater, obok mnie przeszła informacja, że Portnoy tworzył na przestrzeni ostatnich płyt sagę AA (…skrót znany każdemu kogo rozłożyła nafta). Jej finałem jest The Shattered Fortress i mocno zdziwiłem się kiedy w dźwiękach tego utworu przeżyłem istne deja vu, bo odkryłem różne kompozycje zespołu znane z lat wcześniejszych. Utwór poza własnymi “trzema groszami” stanowi połączenie motywów z Repentance (Systematic Chaos), The Root of All Evil (Octavarium), This Dying Soul (Train of Thought) oraz The Glass Prison (Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence). Ten progresywny Frankenstein szczególnie mnie nie porwał, ale pewnie dlatego, że to wszystko już przecież znam.

Rozpoczynający się najpierw pięknym klawiszowym wstępem, a następnie równie przyjemnymi strunami The Best Of Times to utwór ku czcci Howarda Portnoy’a, ojca Mike’a. Po tym poruszającym wstępie numer przybiera właściwą formę – nie mniej, nie więcej – będącą starym Dream Theater. Przemawiają za tym: niekontrolowane tempo, a kiedy trzeba to także i ujarzmione, nieco bardziej wyważone oraz głęboka konstrukcja i tradycyjna paleta różnych klawiszowych uśmiechów Rudessa, basówek Myunga czy solówek Petrucciego (ze szczególnym wskazaniem na tą następującą po końcowych partiach wokalnych). Szczególnie w tym wypadku brzmią słowa Jamesa LaBrie: “but most of all, thank you for my life”, kierowane od młodego Portnoya do wspomnianego ojca. Domyślam się, że perkusista Dream Theater po ich usłyszeniu miał problem z utrzymaniem pałek w dłoniach. Piękny utwór.

Black Clouds & Silver Linings kończy potężny, dziewiętnastominutowy The Count Of Tuscany. Otwierają go właściwie motywy hard rockowej ballady. Bez jakiegokolwiek pośpiechu, bez zadnych wymuszeń. Utwór przy pierwszej solówce Petrucciego delikatnie przechodzi na nieco szybsze tempo, dodatkowo ubarwione klawiszówką Rudessa. Gdzieś w tym wszystkim odnajduje się Portnoy, jest i bardzo wyraźny bas Myunga. Dream Theater przyspiesza znacząco przy czwartej minucie. Wtedy też pojawia się wokal LaBrie. Cała ta wirtuozeria ciągnie się jeszcze do połowy utworu, gdy zespół raz to schodzi na spokojniejsze fragmenty, raz uderza w stronę heavy metalowych zapożyczeń.  By wreszcie wpaść w kolejną głębie progresywnej muzyki, już bez tego wściekłego tempa, ale za to z pięknymi gitarowymi wypuszczeniami Petrucciego.

W ten oto sposób kończy się premierowy album Dream Theater. Tym razem zamiast drętwego podsumowania wypunktuję zaledwie cztery słowa, ale za to dobrze opisujące ten album: genialny, genialny, genialny i genialny.

Werdykt: 10/10

After the 2002 release of Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence, a noticeable downward trend started to appear in Dream Theater’s releases. By the time Systematic Chaos was released in 2007, the fan base had grown very polarized with the band and felt that by attempting to be more “metal” and appeal to a larger audience, they had lost what had made them so special in the first place. Sure, they’re much more popular now than they were 10  years ago, but was it worth the cost of losing the fans that had gotten them so far in the first place? Understandably, Dream Theater was under a lot of pressure to release a great album, and for the first time in a while, they needed to prove something to their audience – that they could still write incredible compositions.

Enter Black Clouds & Silver Linings. As soon as the tracklist was announced, one could tell that Dream Theater were changing things up, with an album of only 6 tracks (and only 2 of them under 10 minutes). But as the fans know, quantity doesn’t always equal quality, so this in itself didn’t say much about the music. However it did say that perhaps Dream Theater would stop caring so much about writing radio friendly singles (like “Forsaken” and “Constant Motion” on Systematic Chaos) and more about writing progressive songs they are known for.

The album has a bit of a rocky start. The first minute or so contains some sound effects and some cheesy sounding keyboard from Rudess, but once the full band comes in “A Nightmare to Remember” really starts, and the song takes a sharp turn for the better. The song both contains some heavy parts (among the heaviest DT has recorded), and some nice mellower parts as well. The song really gets better as it goes, and unlike their previous three albums it doesn’t sound like the song just exists as a platform for solos, but instead it seems like the focus has shifted back towards composition (which most fans will agree is for the better). Not to say that there isn’t any soloing going on at all, but for the most part it feels more concise and fits well into the confines of the song. The only real annoyances are Mike Portnoy’s singing/growling (please, just stop trying) and some corny keyboard parts. Overall, “A Nightmare to Remember” is nowhere near the best song Dream Theater has recorded, but it does start the album off on the right foot.

The next track is the first single from the album, “A Rite of Passage”, the only song I had listened to before the album came out. It’s certainly much better than the singles from Systematic Chaos and has a very infections main riff, along with memorable singing from LaBrie.  At times it sound a little silly, but it makes up for it with a sense of fun that’s not common in their music. If you didn’t find yourself at least bobbing your head to this song, you should probably just stop listening now.

Now “Wither” is the first real surprise of the album. This sounds direct from Falling Into Infinity (with a modern touch), which is a real treat for me since I consider it their most underrated album. It’s not at all what I would expect from a Dream Theater song – which is exactly why I’m liking it so much. Lately they’ve become a bit predictable, but I definitely didn’t see this coming. It’s basically a power ballad with Dream Theater’s signature touch – a real stadium rock song. I could see this song turning off both metalheads and people listening for their virtuosity (and combined that makes up pretty much their whole fanbase), but I really enjoyed the change of pace.

…and just like as if Dream Theater knew their last song might turn some people off, “The Shattered Fortress” comes roaring in with a lot of crunch and some great metal riffs. For those who don’t know, it’s the last song in Portnoy’s AA suite, which chronicles his struggle to give up alcohol after realizing he was an alcoholic, with one song from the suite appearing on each of their last albums dating back to Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence. I’ve heard some people complaining that this song reuses some riffs from previous songs in the series, but all I have to say is, “duh!”. It’s a suite – the music is all interconnected as if it was one piece of work. Not only that, but it’s the finale, so I fully would have expected them to bring back a lot of themes from the earlier songs. While listening to the song, it doesn’t sound like they just “copy-pasted” the parts together, but instead it flows together rather seamlessly. I can understand why people are a bit disappointed that over half the song is familiar, but I can’t say it honestly bothered me too much as it’s all in a different context and hearing it in a new light made the material feel new.

Holy shit. That’s all I have to say about “The Best of Times”.  The first couple minutes are a tad too melodramatic, but as the electric guitar comes in the song morphs into something that would not be out of place on Images & Words or Awake (though with a more modern-DT sound). The melodramtic-ness I mentioned in the beginning does come back into the song in a few parts, but for the most part it’s a great Dream Theater song and a fitting tribute to Mike Portnoy’s late father.

As awesome as “The Best of Times” is, “The Count of Tuscany” rivals it in quality. Yes, the lyrics are laughable, but musically this is very impressive. The first couple minutes and the last ~8 minutes are the best because they show, as I’ve mentioned before, a great sense of composition instead of just pure shredding. I read a review comparing it to Rush, and I definitely feel that influence here.

Black Clouds & Silver Linings is interesting because it’s not an attempt to go back to the sound of the Images & Words era that fans so cherish, but instead it tries to take what was so great about those albums and fuse it with their modern metal-ish sound. Does it always work? Well there are certainly moments on here that I could have done without, but as a whole I would say it’s a step in the right direction and definitely a reversal of the downward trend they were recently on. Dream Theater’s firing on all cylinders here – and while I know I’ve been comparing this album to past releases the whole time my final words are just to take this album for what it is. Dream Theater is never releasing another Images & Words, or another Awake, or even another Metropolis, Pt. 2, so just listen to this album expecting something different and you should find yourself enjoying it.

School’s almost out, and that means only one thing: Summer! A time to sit around and relax, laying down in the dew-stained morning grass with my aviators on, frolicking in the flowers with my maternal unit, and messing around with the hearts of many a young woman. Just kidding. Well, sort of.

Oh, and did I mention Progressive Nation and G3? Ah yes… Summer this year is going to be great.

And in fewer than 9 hours, one of the most exciting weeks of my life will begin. With tomorrow being the first official day of summer, a finals week devoid of a single final, the ending of one of the most hectic school years of my life, summer break starting on Thursday, and some very exciting news coming my way, this week couldn’t get any better. Or could it?

Oh believe me, it can. June 23rd – that’s this Tuesday – will bring new music from an old favorite. Dream Theater. Their tenth album, entitled “Black Clouds & Silver Linings” will finally be released, and if you don’t think I’ll be getting it, you need to leave this blog now. Though some of the songs have already been leaked, I refuse to listen to it before it’s officially released. From what I’ve been told, it’s supposed to be “Pull Me Under”, “Octavarium”, and “A Change of Seasons” all on one album. How convenient – an album composed of three of their best songs ever recorded. Needless to say, I’m more excited for the album than any of the other things that will happen this week.

In anticipation of the album, I’ve been listening to much more Dream Theater than anything else over the course of the past few weeks, and so I figure I might as well review a Dream Theater song today.

So let’s go with one of my favorites, “Honor Thy Father”, from their seventh album, “Train of Thought”.

With my love for heavier music often outweighing my love for softer music, it’s no surprise that “Train of Thought” is currently my favorite DT album. For me, the lyrics of a song often carry a lot of weight when I’m trying to decide whether or not I like a song. So naturally, it’s easier for me to appreciate songs with lyrics that I can relate to. Though I can’t relate to the lyrics of this song entirely (in that I love my family), I can certainly relate to the chorus if taken out of context. And it’s nice to see a DT song with some solid lyrics considering their music had been taking a trip down the wrong path; one where they were compromising lyrical excellence in favor of longer meaningless Petrucci and Rudess solos.

From the get-go, the 10:14 minute multiple-eargasm gets you going. With the beautiful three second drum solo that opens the song, you’re hooked, and Portnoy doesn’t let you go. The first fifteen seconds of the song make you want to call your mom and tell her you’ve found true love, and by the time the intro’s over and you hear the main riff, you have to go change your pants.

Okay, maybe that’s a slight exaggeration, but if you’ve heard the song before, you can relate, and if you haven’t, you’re at the very least intrigued, aren’t you? In fact, you’re probably opening a new tab to go to YouTube and listen to it.

In true prog style, the song changes everything up multiple times in the first three minutes of the song. I find it a little funny how the guitar and drums (outside of the intro) are nothing too special, and yet I still love the song so much. For me, Rudess and Myung (yes, Myung – dude deserves his time in the spotlight) lay down the foundation that keeps this song going. Lay some trademark Portnoy angst-filled lyrics and well-done vocals by LaBrie and this song is a parent’s nightmare.

Continuing with the progressive formula, at exactly five minutes into the song, everything changes. Petrucci lays down a dark riff and Rudess embellishes it with a soft keyboard accompanying riff. For the next minute and a half, this is played over and over without LaBrie’s vocals, but rather lines from the movies “Magnolia” and “At Close Range”. Though the concept itself sounds somewhat dry, it sounds insane when you listen to the song. Following this, Rudess gets a keyboard solo, and LaBrie closes shop with the final climactic “You’re the rotted root in the family tree”.

Overall, the song is fantastic for any Dream Theater fan, and although the album took criticisms claiming it was too mainstream and that it was directed to a more “angsty teen” audience, the song and the album are both notables in the archive. If you’re a diehard DT fan, you already have it. If you’re a prog fan, this song is for you. Even death metal fans should be able to appreciate the song.

Si decide. In settimana si vota per la presidenza del Coni (mercoledì 6 maggio) e si avvia il cammino che porta, o almeno dovrebbe portare, al commissariamento della Lega Calcio, quella che pomposamente è stata battezzata Confindustria del Pallone. Una figuraccia: Silvio Berlusconi, con tutti i guai che ha, anche in famiglia, non poteva certo stare dietro a lui. E’ rimasto in lizza solo Franco Chimenti, che si è candidato addirittura il 29 settembre. Petrucci, in base ai sondaggi, è sicuro di vincere, di arrivare facilmente ai 40 voti necessari (su 79 votanti).

Anche Chimenti è convinto di farcela: in realtà, i dieci anni al comando fanno pendere la bilancia a favore del presidente in carica. Interessante dovrebbe essere anche la lotta per trovare un posto in Giunta: 19 candidati per soli sette posti. Si ricandidano nove (su tredici) dei membri della Giunta uscente e fra i sette dirigenti si rischierano Riccardo Agabio (vicepresidente vicario di quest’ultimo mandato di Petrucci), Carlo Magri, Sergio Melai, Fabio Pigozzi (prorettore Iusm) e Paolo Sesti. In corsa anche Giancarlo Abete e Giovannino Malagò che se ne andò sbattendo la porta.

Manuela Di Centa, invece, farà parte della Giunta come membro Cio, ma solo fino a febbraio 2010, quando con i Giochi di Vancouver scadrà il suo mandato non più rinnovabile: per questo l’ex campionessa di sci di fondo si candida anche in Giunta come dirigente. Impossibile, come deputata, che possa fare la vicepresidente: in caso di successo di Petrucci, un posto è garantito al momento solo a Luca Pancalli. Non si sa ancora invece chi farebbe parte della “squadra” di Chimenti. Il n.1 del golf non ha voluto svelare le sue carte. Almeno per ora.

I suoi voti andranno a Chimenti

Coni, il 6 maggio è alle porte: fra weekend e il ponte della prossima settimana restano ormai pochissimi giorni lavorativi. Ma i tre candidati (Gianni Petrucci, Paolo Barelli e Franco Chimenti) lavorano sodo anche durante il weekend. Il senatore Pdl Paolo Barelli, dopo aver incontrato ancora Silvio Berlusconi, sta decidendo, con il suo staff, che passi muovere. Nelle prossime ore potrebbe annunciare che si ritira. Il motivo? Come da noi scritto (vedi Spy Calcio del 23 aprile) il premier non è per nulla contrario alla candidatura di Barelli, gli ha chiesto di andare avanti ma non vuole, e non può, esporsi in prima persona.

Berlusconi andrebbe incontro a critiche pesanti da parte di chi crede nell’autonomia dello sport e teme che il governo voglia mettere le mani anche sul Coni. Non è una questione di appartenenza politica: Barelli è del Pdl ma non cambierebbe nulla se fosse del Pd. Sempre senatore è. E la candidatura, quindi, è giudicata poco opportuna anche da molti presidenti di Federazione. Non solo: Barelli si aspettava che da parte di Manuela Di Centa, Mario Pescante e Giuseppe Leoni, tutti appartenenti al Pdl, ci fosse un appoggio forte e chiaro. Niente di tutto questo: Manuela Di Centa ha fatto già un accordo con Petrucci (ma non potrà fare il vicepresidente avendo una carica politica), Leoni fa parte della Lega Nord che non pare affatto intenzionata a scendere in campo per Barelli e Pescante, poi, non ha alcuna intenzione di schierarsi.

Ci sono stati forti contrasti in Casa Pdl fra il ministro Scajola, che appoggia Barelli, e il sottosegretario allo sport Rocco Crimi. Ma ora sono arrivati alla resa dei conti e il senatore è pronto a fare convergere il suo pacchetto di voti su Franco Chimenti che si è candidato per primo, il 29 settembre, non ha mai avuto alcuna intenzione di ritirarsi e ieri ha dichiarato: “Con Barelli siamo sulle stesse posizioni”.

Giovannino Malagò, candidato ad un posto in Giunta, intanto ha presentato il suo nuovo, splendido impianto, che da settembre sarà a disposizione di tutta la città: si tratta dell’Aquaniene, due passi dalla Moschea, tre piscine, foresteria, ludoteca, eccetera. Lì in occasione dei Mondiali di nuoto (a proposito, terribile il servizio delle Iene venerdì sera…), si allenerà la Nazionale Usa col fenomeno Phelps. All’inaugurazione dell’impianto c’era tutta (o quasi) la Roma che conta: assenti il sindaco Gianni Alemanno e incredibilmente Paolo Barelli, presidente Federnuoto e candidato al Coni.

Fra Barelli e Malagò ci sono antichi e recenti attriti. Presenti all’Aquaniene invece Petrucci e Chimenti, oltre a Giancarlo Abete e altri presidenti federali. Malagò non si è ancora schierato ufficialmente sulla presidenza Coni ma potrebbe farlo presto: Chimenti è un suo amico ma c’è anche Petrucci che lo vorrebbe in squadra con sé e potrebbe averlo anche convinto in base alle ultime voci. Per finire: sono arrivate altre dichiarazioni di voto. Due rappresentanti (su tre) delle discipline associate (Crosato e Rona) e il nuovo presidente della Federcronomestristi (Ravà, politicamente legato all’area centro) si sono schierati con Petrucci. L’attuale n.1 resta quindi favorito.

Estava na casa de um amigo quando reparei que ele não parava de rir olhando para o PC… Isso chamou minha atenção e, me aproximei para ver melhor. Para minha surpresa, meu tão desejado Guitar Hero Steve Vai tocava tão errado que fiquei engasgado por um breve momento. Claro que caiu a minha ficha e segundos depois eu me juntava ao meu amigo em gargalhadas sem fim.

Nessa paródia de Tender Surrender, o guitarrista (?) dublador teve ao menos capacidade de colocar notas erradas de maneira a parecer que Steve estava seguindo a mesma direção enquanto tocava. O efeito é surpreendente… Steve parece tocar drogado, ou zoando, ou coisa parecida. Muito bom!!! (Ah, não esqueça de ouvir depois o original, para essa imagem frustrante sair de sua cabeça…)

No passado, podíamos encontrar este vídeo sob o título “Steve Vai on heroin”, hoje porém somente encontramos como “Tender Surrender dubbed”.

Internazionale si uniscono ai Vice Presidenti del CONI, Riccardo Agabio e Luca Pancalli, unitamente al Segretario Generale, Raffaele Pagnozzi, ai membri della Giunta e del Consiglio Nazionale del CONI, partecipano al profondo lutto che ha colpito il Presidente Giovanni Petrucci, esprimendo a lui e alla sua famiglia le più sincere e vive condoglianze, interpretando i sentimenti di tutto lo sport italiano.

Visita istituzionale a Palazzo San Giorgio. Il sindaco ha, infatti, ricevuto il Presidente del Comitato Olimpico Nazionale Italiano, Giovanni Petrucci. Un incontro cordiale quello che ha avuto luogo questa mattina. Scopelliti e Petrucci si sono confrontati su diverse tematiche ed in particolar modo sullo sport in generale e sulle questioni di settore che riguardano il territorio calabrese e reggino. Un riferimento specifico è stato fatto sul prossimo grande evento che interesserà Reggio, scelta come sede dei mondiali di pallavolo maschile. Si è discusso anche dei mondiali di basket del 2014 che, qualora si dovessero tenere in Italia, vedrebbero la città dello stretto quale candidata a sede, assieme ad altre. Il Primo cittadino e Gianni Petrucci, accompagnato, tra gli altri, dal presidente regionale del Coni, Mimmo Praticò, si sono soffermati anche sulle manifestazioni di respiro nazionale ed internazionale già realizzate in riva allo Stretto e su quelle in itinere. All’incontro hanno inoltre partecipato il direttore generale del Comune Franco Zoccali e, per il Coni, Maurizio Romano e Danilo Di Tommaso, rispettivamente direttore centrale dell’area territorio e promozione dello sport e responsabile dell’area comunicazione e rapporti con i media.
