It is unclear whether he will be well enough to attend the American Idol finale next week, but Phillips’ doctor reportedly feels that the singer will be better come July, when his tour with John Mayer kicks off.

Phillips had surgery just last year to remove massive kidney stones, with exhaustion and dehydration slowing him down on the current tour. He first revealed his health problems last year when he admitted that he had undergone eight kidney-related procedures, some around the time of the American Idol taping.

Phillips hits the road on Mayer’s Born & Raised tour July 7 in Milwaukee, traveling throughout North America through October.

Artists I listen to when I’m stressed and need to relax: George Harrison
Okay, so I don’t ONLY listen to George Harrison music when I’m stressed, but I’ve noticed that during the most stressful weeks of the year, George Harrison’s music is playing nonstop on my iPod or on the computer. His music is so soothing and calming, it really helps me take a deep breath and remember why I’m doing whatever it is that I’m doing. Some of his songs like Isn’t It A Pity and Hear Me Lord help me fall asleep at night, and when I listen to his music, I can feel all of the stress and tension from the day just wash away. Sometimes, in the midst of a busy, hectic day, I need to take a breather and listen to George Harrison for 5 minutes, and it always helps.

Artists I listen to on the weekends or when it’s summer and I’m happy at not being at school: Eric Clapton, the Traveling Wilburys, Tom Petty, Paul McCartney & Wings, The Rolling Stones, ELO, Queen, The Who
The music from these artists always puts me in a good mood, and generally, I listen to them when I just want to hear some good old fashioned classic rock. Eric Clapton’s music in particular is fantastic to listen to when you’re doing basically nothing on a Saturday afternoon and you just want to hear a good song with an awesome guitar part. In fact, I may do an entire Clapton-related post at some point, so be on the lookout for it! And the other artists I listed are also great for when you’re kicking back and enjoying life, like I try to do in between my endless weekend homework assignments.

Artists I listen to when I’m doing homework: Phillip Phillips, thenewno2, Paul McCartney, George Harrison
Yes, I’m differentiating Paul McCartney’s solo albums from his albums with Wings, and that’s because he has a few fairly mellow solo albums that are great to listen to while I’m doing something and want to listen to music. I also enjoy listening to Phillip Phillip’s debut album, The World From The Side Of The Moon, while I’m studying or working. It has a lot of great songs with some fantastic acoustic guitar work, and all in all, it’s a very impressive album. As I’ve said before on the blog, thenewno2 has some really amazing rock/alternative/electronica music that is inventive and cool to listen to, and a lot of it is very relaxing. And then there’s George Harrison… What more can I say about his music that I haven’t already said?

Artists I listen to when I’m feeling in an oddly great mood for a weeknight: Paul McCartney (with and without Wings), ELO, Foster The People, Talking Heads, Pearl Jam
This is a rather diverse group of artists, but before I go to sleep on a weeknight, I really enjoy all of their music, and somehow they all fit together into what I call my “weird weeknight” mood.
I don’t think I’ve mentioned Pearl Jam before on the blog, but let me just say that I LOVE Eddie Vedder’s voice! It is truly a gift from God, and I was blown away by his performance of Comfortably Numb with Roger Waters at the Concert for Sandy last December. Wow!
Also, Foster the People, while they only have 1 album out at the moment, has some truly outstanding songs that are extremely catchy and fun to dance to, while actually having an interesting meaning at the same time. I know I’ve said this before, but it’s an unusual combination for a 21st century musical artist!

Artists I listen to when I’m feeling down and need a boost of confidence: John Lennon
There are others, but I find that John Lennon’s music is so wonderfully empowering, especially songs like Imagine and Power to the People, that he’s all I need to feel better about life. His music really makes me feel like I can do anything I set my mind to if I try hard enough. Thanks John!

Artists I listen to when I realize I need to participate in the music from this generation: Maroon 5, Foster the People, Phillip Phillips, thenewno2, Adele
Not too much to say here that I didn’t already say in my post about the 50th anniversary of Please Please Me, but these are some of my favorite artists from this generation that I enjoy when I’m not in the mood for classic rock. Okay, so that never actually happens, but I still enjoy these artists nonetheless!

If you’ve read my blog before, then you may be wondering where the Beatles fit in on this list. Well, never fear, because I have a special category just for them…

Artists I listen to in any mood, at any time, anywhere: The Beatles
The Beatles are the one band that I can ALWAYS rely on to make me feel good. They’re there when I’m happy, sad, and everything in between. Beatles music soothes the soul in any situation, and that’s all there is to it. I gave them their own category because, well they’re the Beatles, and also because I realized that they fit into every single category I’ve mentioned above, except for maybe the one about music from this generation. Basically, in any situation, the Beatles rule!

Not the kind of crush where I’m about to go buy a million posters of him, every album he ever makes and dream up a non-existent life with him (okay, maybe I might do that last one), but the kind where I’m completely in love with his music and it can make everything better.

Not many artists have that effect on me. I think the last artist to do that to me was Ryan Kirkland, of Between the Trees. Not to be confused with the weird religious band that stole their name after they broke up.

But honestly, his music is amazing. Not many mainstream musicians actually have talent, they just have luck. Phillips is the perfect combo of real person and real good music.

Here’s my favorite song to get you through the day:

I’ve went from 210 to 191 (I don’t typically like saying my weight, but there’s no point in being ashamed of myself anymore because I am not, I love who I was and who I am now). Over the summer my goal is to lose around 20 more pounds which will center me around 170 lbs. The goal is not unrealistic, it is very much in my range of ability. I can do anything I set my mind too. Harness the power of your mind and you can do anything.

Anyone reading my blog in the process of losing weight and in need of some advice or motivation, I’d be more than willing to pass on what has helped me get this far. Comment, message me or tweet @ me. I am more than willing to speak about this journey I’m on.

With the high of accomplishment, I had a wonderful day around campus. The weather was beautiful. So I decided to have a little photo shoot with myself.

Yesterday, I bought Phillip Phillips’ album. (I forgot paper towels but seriously people, I have my priorities.)  The album is incredible. Phil’s voice is gorgeous and in a way reminds me a lot of the wondrous Dave Mathews. Phil’s music style is very similar to him as well.

I love it when music comes into your life, giving you added motivation and courage to face the world. Music really is everything. I find myself open to all kinds of music, which is hard when trying to control spending. I would completely enjoy buying all the music that I heard and loved (it takes a lot for me to dislike a song or artist). Also if I could fit it into my budget  I’d buy concert tickets to see bands live, but I can’t and it is painful. If I ever get rich, I will be buying all the music in the world as well as attending as many concerts as humanly possible.

I am a huge fan of 90s music and whenever I need to give a playlist some extra “oomph”  it’s time  for the old favorites that USED to be played on stations with a “Modern Rock” format. (Most of the music I love is relegated to “classic rock” stations which makes me feel like I should be retired, living in Florida and bitching about the heat.)

Anyhoo—I recently came across a photo of yours truly enjoying a cheap beer in a mobile home back in the time that Kurt Cobain was alive and we had NO idea how horny Bill Clinton could get. It made me giggle (mainly because I can’t figure out why I am also holding a bowling ball) so thought I would pass along with today’s playlist—you’re welcome!

This is a 50-minute interval ride with several quick segments versus the longer hills I have been featuring lately.

Throughout this process I’ve tried to connect with something or someone who inspires me to push myself.  Most of the time those people have reached out to me to send me words of encouragement.  I carry each one of you to my classes and to the kitchen trying to make good decisions.

Saturday night I was driving home from Lawrenceville, NJ visiting a friend from high school.  I had my iPod plugged in, set on shuffle and  Home by Phillip Phillips came on.  I listened to every single word that played through my speakers and quickly felt incredibly inspired.  It was as if someone knew I needed those words of encouragement at that moment because I was beginning to doubt myself and my progress.

The song reassured me that there are people cheering me on even though they may have forgotten I’m still on this journey.  It reminded me that I am not alone and that the doubt that I have are those “demons that fill me with fear”.  Even though I may mess up one day or one week I know “If I get lost, you can always be found”.  So, I say THANK YOU to Steve Jobs for creating the iPod, to Phillip Phillips and those of you who continue to be my cheerleaders.  You rock!

Can I talk about the Weather for a minute? It’s Spring-time if I ever saw it yall. While we thankfully bask in the melting of our snow and winter coats as the sun kisses our faces & flip flops… I want to take a minute to remember my friends whose places at Cornerstone Farm have flooded, loss upon loss as they continue saying goodbye to Cornerstone. It was a reminder to me of the need to keep others struggle in our prayers even as  we may be in the midst of our own snow melting good season changes.

I’m currently watching Les Mis – If you have not seen, heard or read this amazing story, please walk to the nearest Redbox now and get it, watch it again or for the first time. First, the story is incredible and potentially life changing. Meanwhile the music – any writer has to admire how this 1,500 page book was so movingly expressed in song. (You’ll hear more from me on this here sometime)

Here’s a little something I read this week – It’s worth a minute.
