December has been an incredibly busy month with the Christmas holiday season just days to go and end-of-year celebrations a week away. I’ve had an early December vacation with my family in Singapore followed by a Singapore Tourism Board media assignment. Four days later, back in Brunei, I was shown over a hundred photos from the Baiduri photo competition entries … before I even had a chance to download my own images from the trip. Baiduri Bank has short-listed 12 photographs out of hundreds of entries submitted for the i-Banking Photo Competition.The Photo Competition was launched between 18th November 2009 and 8th December 2009. The theme was Enjoy Life!

The judges for the competition are Baiduri’s Corporate Communications & Marketing Manager – Ms Dorothy Newn, eChannels & Payment Services Officer – Ms Caroline Ho, and renowned local photographer, Mr Jan Shim.

The winning photograph will win a grand prize of a Nikon D300s DSLR with a Nikkor AF 50mm F/1.8 lens. Second place winner will receive a HP Pavilion TX2-1011AU Tablet PC, while the third place winner will receive an Acer Aspire One D250-B.

All participants will receive a certificate of participation from Baiduri Bank, while the short listed 12 will also receive a backpack. To top it off, Baiduri will launch a “Guess Who Won” contest from 23rd December 2009 to 5th January 2010, which offers five B$50 meal vouchers to the public who correctly guess the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners of the photo competition.

Borneo Tropical Rainforest Resort Photography Challenge 2010

Challenge Rules and Regulations:
1. This challenge is open to all. Employees and management (including any immediate family members) of Borneo Tropical Rainforest Resort are not allowed to participate.
2. All photographs for the contest must be taken within the 780-acre resort at KM36, Miri-Bintulu Road, Miri, Sarawak.
3. Photographers may use analog or digital cameras.
4. Only colour prints in 8R size are acceptable.
5. There are two categories:
Category (1) Landscape/Wildlife/Nature.
Category (2) Facilities/ Building/ Food & Beverage
6. Photographers may submit any number of photos. But colour prints must be submitted in total of 5 photos, minimum two from each category. One of the photos must be a photo of any buildings within the resort.
7.Photos must be submitted together with a CD (please put your name on CD) with the appropriate images. The size of the digital image shall be at least 2MB.
8. All owners of the photographs shall grant full and exclusive copyright of their submitted photos to Borneo Tropical Rainforest Resort.
9. All photographs submitted are not returnable and shall remain the property of Borneo Tropical Rainforest Resort. However the copyright of the photos remain with the photographers. Borneo Tropical Rainforest Resort reserves the absolute rights to reproduce, utilize, publicize and exhibit the photographs in whatever form and medium and in whatever venue, without prior notification and further payment to the photographers.
10. Photographers submitted for the contest must be taken from 10 December 2009 to 30 January 2010, within the Resort’s premises.
11.Participating photographers will need to register with the Resort (at Sales Office located at Lot 101, Airport road, Miri (c/o Syarikat Kai Nguong Nursery (M) S/B 8.00am-12pm and 2pm to 5pm on weekdays). Please submit a photo ID, registration form and pay refundable deposit of RM50.00. The Resort will issue one unlimited free day pass for the participants only (valid from 10 December 2009 to 30 January 2010). The
deposit will be refunded when entries (CD and 5 copies of color prints) are received. Please return day pass.
12. All expenses incurred are the sole responsibility of the photographer. The Resort will provide discount to participants. Discount only valid from 01 January 2010 to 31 January 2010.  All participants are entitled one night single/double standard room with breakfast at RM100.00++ per room/per night. Subsequent nights from RM130.00++ per room/per night (with breakfast).
Participants enjoy 30% off for all food and beverage.  Any additional room(s) from RM130.00++ (with breakfast) per room/per night and 30% off for all food and beverage.
13. The organizer and the Resort shall not be liable to any loss or damage of personal belongings, including camera and its equipment, and/or any bodily injuries due to accidents within the Resort’s premises.
14.Photographs submitted for the challenge must be the original work of the photographer. They must not have won prizes in any other contest nor have they have been previously published in any form of media elsewhere.
15. Each set of photographs must be submitted with an entry form. Multiple entries can be stored in just one CD for submission.
16. Entry form and registration form can be downloaded from www.BorneoRainforestResort.com and www.mirips.com.my. Photocopy of the entry forms are acceptable. Forms are available from 10 December 2009.
17. A photographer may submit any number of entries, however each participant will only qualify for ONE prize, in each category.
18. Photographs will be judge on the basis of composition, clarity, technique, content, colour and caption. The judges have the option to change the judging criteria without prior notice.
19. Only slight adjustment/enhancements which are restricted to sharpness, colour balance, curve, level and contrast of the submitted photos are allowed. Photographs failing to adhere to these guidelines will be

21. The organizers shall not be responsible for photographs damaged or lost during mail. Proof of posting is not proof of receipt.

23. There will be a model shooting competition at 9.00am, 07 February 2010.

#24 Snuggle Bunny!

I recently entered a photo contest. The contest is through Laughing Dog Radio. They are raising money to help animals who would otherwise be euthanized, The animals that have been banned, abused, neglected, and abandoned. Here is a couple paragraphs from their page explaining what they are all about. If you would like to read more click here.

We started this photo contest as a way for us to try to raise money to help our precious pets who are being banned, abused, neglected, and abandoned . There were over 4 million beautiful healthy animals euthanized in the United States alone last year, and cruelty towards animals seem to be at an all time high. I think the most disturbing to me is peoples indifference , their ability to close their eyes and look the other way.

So each month we will be having a contest with a different theme for you to enter a photo of your pet. The image of the grand-prize winner’s will be printed in a 2011 Laughing Dog Radio Calendar. All entrants featured in the calendar will receive a copy of the calendar. All of the proceeds from the sale of the calendar and or from the sale of any greeting cards will be donated to small rescue groups and organizations who are trying to help these animals here in the US, and around the world.

I am entered in this contest with one of my dogs. Her name is Faith! She is the gentlest, most lovable dog you could ever meet. I am so proud of her and the way she has shattered peoples misconceptions of bully breeds, pit bulls in particular. The picture is called Snuggle Bunny! She is #24. We could really use your votes! Hey creative folks! I need your help!!!!!

I have this awesome new cupcake shot (for some reason, I really really love the way it turned out!) and I want to put it in my etsy shop, however, I can’t think of a fun and creative title.  I want something more a little more fun than “Cupcake with Measuring Tape” or “Cupcake #176.”

This is where you come in (don’t worry– there is something in it for you!)

Unfortunately, I wasn’t one of the winners!

Anyway, as a finalist, my photo “Finding Nemo” has been choosed to represent the month of May in the annual calendar.

Not surprisingly, the jury choosed the phot I’ve sent ” for the jury” , as nobody was an underwater photographer! The other two photos I’ve sent were for sure technically  more difficult, but of course it is impossible to know for not-specialists. Anyway, it seems that it happens in many UW photo contests as well: very often it’s easier for a “impressive” subject (like a shark) to be the winner.

I entered Parenting by Dummies’ contest Merry Effing Christmas.

Every one knows how difficult it is to get a decent pic when posing for Christmas photos – especially with kids. We might not have the problem in plural, but it was fun none the less. Eventually did get the money shot.

Okay, Alaska Airlines isn’t truly a local company, but they fly locals and tourists in and out of Palm Springs nearly every day. So, get those digital cameras clicking. Alaska Airlines Magazine and Horizon Air Magazine are now accepting entries for their 2010 Photo Contest. In addition to awarding prizes for the top three photographs, the magazine will publish the top 10 finalists in their May 2010 issues.
