“Modern Love”

On Sunday I got to see one of my really good friends (LB) that I haven’t seen in MONTHS! We took a trip to the zoo with her niece, Annie and had an absolute blast! I took way too many photos (as I am prone to do). Annie provided some great photo ops; she makes great faces, just like her aunt! Here are some of my favorite shots of the day:

What’s going on, Internet?

I figured I should do some sort of “intro” post just to let y’all know what exactly I plan on doing with this blog. Besides just posting a bunch of pictures. That should be a given.

I want to use this site to practice my photography skills. I’m in the process of a Photo 365 project over on Shuttercal.com, and I use my Flickr account to display my photos. Both help, especially the first one, because it forces me to get my camera out every day. However, as of late, I’ve been wanting to focus on different aspects in photography I don’t employ often. The first couple of things I thought of immediately were shooting macro and shooting in sepia.

I know those two things aren’t anything major, especially the second one. But I realized the other day that I NEVER shoot in sepia. Except for about five pictures from last year. And I’d like to see what kind of shots I can turn out just by shooting in sepia.

So there ya go. The basic run-down of what I plan to do with this blog. For now.

Today I had a doctor’s appointment. The appointment was to discuss my results of my blood test and my ultrasound, and to plan the next step. If you recall, my doctor said I was a medical mystery. The ultrasound came back clear, which was a huge surprise to me considering the last time we had talked she said she definitely felt something. My blood test came back normal too, except for a little bleep. That bleep was my vitamin D level. The average person’s vitamin D level is around 75. My vitamin D level at the time of my blood work (September) was 16. Needless to say, I’m a bit on the low side. Well it turns out vitamin D is pretty important. My doctor informed me that things needed to drastically change; that things were at a do or die point, emphasis on the “die”. I need to be taking 8000 international units of vitamin D for the next several months. I found out Vitamin D comes in 1000iu tablets, so when you buy a bottle and immediately down 8 pills in the middle of the mall food court you are bound to get some odd looks. Anyhow I now have the vitamin in me, so I’m on the mends. Glad I survived today, check back in and see if I’m still alive tomorrow too!

It was a beautiful Autumn day today.  A beautiful Autumn day with Spring weather.  Somewhere in the 60s though I didn’t get to experience that because I was in the classroom all day long.  Lately, I’ve been really camera happy.  It started when I went to NYC as shown in my previous post and today, as I was sitting in my school’s Student Center, it struck again.  I go to a rather small school, a community college, with a pretty decent sized campus but a beautifully landscaped campus nonetheless.  The trees around this time of year are amazing to look at.  As you can see, they’re amazing to photograph too.  I wish I would’ve been able to catch the rest of them before the leaves were left hanging on by a thread.  I suppose I should have shot them anyway.  I have to learn to just let go and do what I feel instead of thinking about it.

Speaking of thinking, I went over in my mind just what this blog would be about.  I was vague about it before.  I have a very huge appreciation for music and an even bigger appreciation for being introduced to everything new, unheard of, or simply overlooked.  I will be posting a number of tracks, CDs, and mixtapes that appeal to me and each of them will be available for download, just in case any followers feel the urge to have it for themselves.   I made this with intentions on sharing music, works of art, interesting sites, and even giving the unknown and unsigned an opportunity to be heard.  If this is you and you want me to give you that chance, there is an email address provided, one that I check on a daily bases.  If I like what I hear then I’ll most certainly add you to the Nation Gems section, granted you have a mixtape.  If not, I will still upload and make available any tracks provided.  The same goes for graphic designers, web designers, photographers, and writers.  I’m open to giving everyone the opportunity they deserve.

What’s been happening?  Oh my goodness busyness, that’s what’s been happening.    

I can’t even tell you what I spent my time on!  

Well part of it was getting my mom moved into her new place.  I haven’t lived this close to my mom since, probably, 13 years ago maybe?  It is SO NICE to say I have a relative close by.

Ahem…anywho…

I got a chance to get to my studio and shoot product shots for Motorola today.  Thing is I don’t know if they’ll like them.  Unineteresting stuff but hey, it’s Motorola.  

And hey, I’m speaking life on this one.

I did some random shooting after the Motorola stuff.  This is a rubberband I found on a desk.  You don’t usually see blue ones, and I did see the brown ones.

But this one’s so purdy.

What else could I have done when sitting home boring myself to death.Taking the camera and an mp3 player as a companion and hitting the streets of Brasov was always the best choice.In fact this is how it all started a few years ago.So the boredom and a slight feeling of melancholy led me to an interesting way of spending my time.Maybe the music has to do something with it I guess.I always had Katatonia,Dark Tranquility and Novembers Doom in my ears and it had a good impact on my state of being and my imagination I guess.So here is a small selection of what I ’shot’ in those days.

“No Peeking”

It isn’t often I hit up New York.  I live in Jersey but getting up there with no money and no willing parties isn’t exactly easy.  Because of that, I take any opportunity to get to NYC.   This year I was blessed with two, one planned and one spontaneous.  I won’t even go into the spontaneous trip.  It was decent but the planned trip turned out much better.  As I said before, I’m an Advertising & Graphic Design major and a member of my schools graphic design club.  We took a trip Friday, visited a few agencies and a short conference at FIT but the true highlights were walking around Times Square, being a true tourist and snapping all of the pictures I could take.  When I got home, I wished I would’ve taken more but I’ll take what I can get and share what I have.

Here’s the presentation the Rev. Christine Robinson gave at a multi-site workshop on multi-site congregations. I call it a multi-site workshop because we held it at two different sites: Unity Church-Unitarian in St. Paul, Minnesota, and All Souls in Kansas City, Missouri. Christine herself was in Albuquerque, so her presentation was a virtual one via Persony and Freeconferencecall.com. I used the free recording service from the conference call service and used that audio track to sync the PowerPoint slides Christine sent us for this online version. It’s a bit longer than the usual online workshop I’ve offered here (about an hour and forty-five minutes), but it’s well worth it! Christine did a great job.
