So today was normal. My migraine has been with me since I woke up. Nothing exciting. I sadly have to re-do all of my physics homework for tomorrow. I hate this. . .

I’m currently burning cds onto my computer for Randy’s mothers ipod, editing photos to flickr, re-writing physics and trying to hurry my ass up so I can take a nap. Why take a nap in the evening? Well Randy and I, possibly even my brother, are going to wait in line for the opening release for Call of Duty, World At War. yay! Though I have two exams tomorrow and such. I have not told my mother this, I feel bad if I make Randy go by himself.

So for whatever reason I am blogging instead of doing any of these things. I really shouldn’t, but blogging is just one of those itches I must scratch.

So i’m attempting to edit photos with photoshop. I normally don’t have to do much with my photos, but i’m at the point that I must learn how in order to produce more interesting pieces. If there are any tutorials that can help me i’d love to see them. Check out my flickr to the side if you wish to comment on my work!

Olá leitores, após pesquisar muito e passar muitos dias fuçando em blogs e sites de vendas e reviews de computadores eu decidi adquirir o meu Pc atual, e é este do qual eu vos falo. Se trata de um Asus EEE PC 1008HA, um netbook lançado em junho de 2009 que alem de ser bastante útil é também muito bonito.

As configurações da maquina são modestas comparadas ao meu antigo notebook, mas o 1008HA me surpreendeu na sua capacidade de processamento. Ele tem 1GB de memória ram, 160GB de HDD 5400rpm, Wifi nos padrões B, G, e N, Windows XP home SP3 e um touchpad que aceita multiplios toques (pré programados).

A primeira coisa a fazer após liga-lo foi instalar os programas básicos que eu utilizava no meu antigo notebook, eles são : Skype, Safari, Chrome, Firefox, Babylon, Windows live messenger, iTunes 9, Notebook Hardware Control, BrOffice e alguns outros programas técnicos para o gerenciamento de redes WI-FI.

A instalação de todos estes programas levou pouco mais de quarenta minutos, e o consumo de memoria Ram do sistema em repouso ficou entre 400 e 420 Mb. Logo depois disso foi a vez dele, do essencial, do maravilhoso, do extremamente útil Photoshop!.

Photoshop CS3

Eu testei duas versões do PSCS3, uma portátil e a versão original do cd de instalação. Após instaladas as duas versões, a que mais apresentou estabilidade e se manteve sem travar foi a versão completa. Mas tanto esta quanto a portátil se mostraram lentas. mesmo em edição de imagens pequenas, como um wallpaper de resolução 1024×768, o programa se mostrou irritantemente lento. Não recomendo a não ser que você tenha muito tempo, e paciencia, livres.

Photoshop CS2

Logo que eu desintalei a versão CS3 do Photoshop foi hora de partir para a sua versão anterior. A instalação foi rápida e tranquila, sem problemas. O programa iniciou rapidamente, em aproximadamente 14 segundos e após menos de 10 minutos, o tempo levado na instalação e inicialização do programa, eu já estava editando imagens. O PSCS2 editou imagens de até 3000×3000px sem apresentar muita lentidão nos processos. Vale apontar aqui que em todos os testes realizados nas versões dos programas, só o photoshop estava aberto. Apesar de mostra um bom desempenho, o Photoshop travou em diversos momentos de uso. Não travou por problemas de desempenho da maquina, mas sim por bugs do próprio programa. Provavelmente este foi um defeito de integração Photoshop/Sistema operacional ja que o PSCS3 não travou, mesmo em tarefas pesadas. Recomendo que você teste por si mesmo, ja que aparentemente o problema é com o meu Windows.

Photoshop CS

Depois de me decepcionar com o Photoshop CS3 e encontrar bugs no CS2, foi a vez de partir para a minha ultima esperança : O Photoshop CS. Assim como foi com o PSCS2, a instalação foi rapida e sem problemas. O boot do programa se deu em apenas 9 segundos, um ótimo desempenho, mesmo para um netbook. A edição de imagens transcorreu sem problemas e eu consegui até editar um poster de 33×27 cm em 300dpi. Não tive problemas com nenhum aspecto do programa, inclusive ele me permitiu usar o Firefox 3.5 com 21 tabs abertas e escutar musicas no iTunes sem problemas de travamento ou demora sem-fim. Versão totalmente recomendada!.

Espero que este mini-guia tenha sido util, provavelmente as recomendações dadas aqui sirvam para modelos com com configuração similar.

Vida Longa e Próspera!

Eilen kävimme TVT:n harjoitustunnilla läpi Photoshopin käyttöä. En ole koskaan aikaisemmin käyttänyt Photoshopia kunnolla, joten oppitunti tuli tarpeeseen. Jo lähtötasotestissä yritin käyttää ohjelmaa, mutta yksinkertaisimmatkin toiminnot olivat hakusessa. Oppitunnin aikana tuntuikin välillä, että jotkin toiminnot olivat hieman turhan monen mutkan takana. Esimerkiksi bucket tool ei ollutkaan alusta asti näkyvillä. Vaikka olen Paintin suuri fani (!), myönnän PS:n monipuolisuuden. Layerien käyttö oli erittäin suuri plussa, tosin välillä tuntui hankalalta esim. se, ettei pohjalayeria voinut muokata suoraan, vaan kopioinnin kautta. PS:ä oli kokonaisuudessaan melko helppoa lähteä käyttämään Paint-kokemuksen pohjalta.

Erittäin kätevää oli se, että kuvan nimen ja koon pystyi määrittelemään jo uutta tiedostoa luotaessa. Toiminnoista esimerkiksi pensselin monenlaiset muodot olivat kovasti mieleeni, vaikka niitä tuntuikin olevan aivan järjetön määrä. Mikäs sen parempaa kuin valmiiden lehtien levittely syksymaisemaan! Myös transform-toiminto oli hyvin viihdyttävä tällaiselle ohjelman käyttöä harjottelevalle tumpulalle. Viihdearvoa oli myös webbikameralla, vaikka toki sen käyttämisen osaaminen on muutenkin hyödyllistä. Kamerankäytön yhteydessä harjoittelimme myös leimasin-toiminnon käyttöä. Välillä meinasi unohtua oikean layerin valitseminen, mutta kaiken kaikkiaan toiminto on monipuolisesti käytettävä.  Sen sijaan valmiin kuvan värin muuttaminen jälkikäteen taikasauva-toiminnon avulla tuntui hieman vaikealta ainakin sen jälkeen, kun kuvaa oli ehtinyt muokata paljon. Uusi väri ei tullutkaan niin tasaisesti kuin olisi halunnut.

Oppintunti oli monipuolinen, selkeä ja erittäin hyödyllinen. Perusasiat jäivät mieleen, koska toimintoja sai kokeilla rauhassa itsekseen. Epäilen kuitenkin, ettei Photoshopia tule käytettyä kovinkaan usein jatkossa, ainakaan ennen ei ole ollut tarvetta. Toivottavasti koulutöissä tulisi tarvittua, jotta perusasiat jäisivät mieleen. Kaiken varalta kävin tänään tulostelemassa PS:n ohjeet Optimasta!

Last Wednesday night I was involved in the junior high youth ministry program of my church. We meet in small groups in church members homes. The topic was prayer and there is one story that stuck out to me. “Trust Me.”

Have you ever woken up and wondered what in earth was going to happen that day. For some reason you felt like there was something big that could be coming your way but you are not sure what or how or any of the other details? How do you make it through that day? “Trust Me.”

One leader talked about an experience just like that. He woke up one day and his mind was already running through things for the day. He was anxious about what was to happen. As soon as his mind was running with anxious thoughts, the still small voice told him to “trust Me.” Little did I realize when I heard that how I would somewhat hear that this morning.

I woke up rather early again and wondered why. My mind had a song running through it. It was a John Denver song, which one I do not remember. It was running on replay in opposition to that still small voice that said to, “trust Me.”

The release of the Arabian Horse images yesterday was a big day for me. I had been working on it for three weeks straight. It was about the only thing I did for those three weeks. All the while, I was praying it would be a profitable process. I need it to be. That is reality. Thanks to my parents, everything was uploaded and released on time! All day long, I kept track of stats to see what was viewed. It was incredible to have over 1300 views of images yesterday. I never would have guessed it would happen but it did. There have not been any sales through those views yet but I heard that voice this morning saying, “trust Me.”

It was a neat horse to watch perform as he did!

Additionally yesterday, I talked to a friend who is a teacher at the high school here in Austin. I found out that there is a need for a Photoshop CS 1 or 2 teacher due to some internal restructuring. In talking with that friend, I do not know if I qualify to teach it but I thought why not try it. I left a message for the principle today to find out more about it. It might be an open door to walk through. “Trust Me.”

Then there is the ongoing discussion with an art instructor at the community college here in Austin. When I talked to him about two weeks ago he mentioned to me that they might be in need of an adjunct professor to teach digital photography next semester. While I have not taught photography that extensively, it is worth a shot. Tomorrow I will get my resume and cover letter out to the college and see how that goes. “Trust Me.”

However, in the end, I had to remember what concept I derived from reading Tuesday’s With Morrie. “Fuel the faith not the fear.” So, I move forward by doing just that–fueling the faith not the fear. Best known for hacking Nintendo video cartridges, new media artist Cory Arcangel explores the relationship between culture, art and techonology by using codes from outdated computer and gaming systems and turning them into artwork. An example of this is Super Mario Clouds, a game cartridge where everything has been erased except the clouds scrolling by. In his series of photographs Photoshop CS: 110 by 72 inches, 300 DPI, RGB, square pixels, default gradient “Spectrum”, mousedown y=1098 x=1749.9, mouse up y=0 x=4160, Cory takes the gradient tool in Photoshop to create color patterns that remind the spectator of the role that technology has in contemporary art.

Cory Arcangel lives and works in Brooklyn. He studied classical guitar at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music. He has presented his work at the 2004 Whitney Biennial, the MOMA, the Guggenheim Museum, the Tate Britain, among others. He is represented by Team Gallery in New York City.

A great news that I heard today is the Camera Raw will let me edit JPEGs in the same manner as RAW files, just not out of the box.

For this you have to modify one thing in Edit/Preferences/File handling:
- push the Camera Raw Preferences… button
Down at the bottom you have JPEF and TIFF Handling. In this dropdown
- select Automatically open all supported JPEGs
and voila! you have the same super fast and powerful editor for JPEGs, as you were using for your RAWs.

Small benefits of using Camera Raw instead of Photoshop itself is that CR is very fast compared to Photoshop, because:

1. you don’t have to apply layers for any modification
2. you can see the images in pretty big thumbnail, side by side
3. you can switch fast between pictures and remain in the same controls
4. all the tools (you use in PS also) are placed very handy in only one window (crop,straighten, rotate, WB pick)
5. you can apply the same corrections for several/all pictures at once – this is the biggest gain i.e. when you shoot a batch

an then, if you automate saving and closing files you might be done with all your work here. Just push Select All button in upper left, wait a little to have all files open in their respective document window and then call your batch from File/Automate/Batch and you’re done for today. Addendum:
- CR is absolutely non-destructive, as Photoshop is
- even more, CR saves all the modifications in an .xmp file with the same name of the picture. You can save at any time this file too and reproduce all these alterations later, or even on another computer.
- you can rename this .xmp file for another different alterations and use anyone you like, just renaming them to the same name of the image file.
- you can delete the .xmp file and revert to original on opening or use the Default (hyperlink like) button to cancel them all.

Sorry för dålig uppdatering idag. Jag och Syskonen fick dataförbud av mamma idag för vi satt framför tv:n och datorn hela dagen. I alla fall så är jag tillbaka nu. Sitter och grejar lite med mitt nedladdade Photoshop. Tycker att det är jättekul! Även om man inte kan lika mycket som i Photoshop CS så kan man ändå göra mycket. Nu testar jag olika effekter man kan ha på foton. Här är några av dem: (egen bild, kopiera inte!)

Det finns många fler, men dessa tyckte jag var coola.

Oj då, stavade visst fel till “markerade” det står  ”makerade”, hehe…

Nu har jag laddat ner en test-version av Photoshop, det är askul! Man kan ändra typ allting… Man kanske kan göra så att man ser riktigt snygg ut Me like! Den jag har laddat ner är tyvärr Photoshop Elements, det fungerade inte med Photoshop CS. Det verkar som att man kan göra mycket mer där. Om man läser Bunnys blogg och hennes Photoshop-blogg kan man få tips om allt man kan ändra och det verkar inte så svårt ändå. Det är ju ascoolt att kunna ändra hårfärg, ögonfärg, hudfärg, midjemått (!) mm. Men man kunde i alla fall ändra hur vita tänder man har och lägga på läppstift. Det ser lite plastigt ut, men man är ju bara nybörjare. Men so what, det är kul! Du kan ladda ner Photoshop på adobe.com, men då måste du bli medlem. Enda nackdelen med Photoshop CS är väl priset… Men man får väl fjäska lite för pappa (till pappa: Det var ett skämt! )
P.s: Jag har även lagt in mer ljus i bilden, då den var ganska mörk på före-bilden.

Been trying to shoot these darn wind chimes for awhile now, but just couldn’t get it right.  Well, after many failed attempts on other occassions, I was finally determined to get them being it was a beautiful and sunny day.  Even though I’m 6.1″, I had to stand on my tippy toes to get some of these right.  Didn’t take many shots to get the feel I was looking for.

It used to be a lot of work to make realistic-looking wood in Phototoshop, then Photoshop CS came along with its extra fancy filters, especially the one we’re going to use today, the Fibers filter. Now it’s as easy as one, two, three. Just follow this simple tutorial. Read this photoshop tutorial

I’ve actually managed to get back in here and write a new post – and less than a month after the last one! Perhaps this is proof of some new sense of determination on my part?

Naah. It’s actually occasioned by the fact that I have found something new to learn in Photoshop CS. (Why CS, did I imagine I heard you ask? Simply, that’s the version I’ve got on my PC – with little prospect of upgrading in the near to middle future.)

For some time now I’ve been wondering how you go about replacing one colour with another in Photoshop. In particular I’ve been interested in taking a logo done all in black, and changing the black to another colour right across the board.

Long ago I worked out how to do this it in my other image manipulation tool, Paint Shop Pro, where it’s almost always been a fairly easy task, if not particularly powerful.

But somehow I’ve never quite managed it in CS. That Color Replacer button just didn’t seem to work for me. I’d set my background to be the colour I wanted to replace, and the foreground to the colour to replace it with, and then drag the brush in a mad gyration around the image – and nothing would happen. WTD (i.e. what the devil)? So I’d leave the problem aside, promising myself to one day get back to it, then promptly losing myself in Reddit.

Anyway, this evening, after trawling through various singularly unhelpful online tutorials on the topic, I finally noticed that one (from Alyson’s Scrapbook, to be precise) had a reference to a menu option at Image > Adjustments > Replace Color… Hmm, thought I to myself. Better have a dekko at that. And, well, what do you know? It’s where I needed to go all along :-p

A bit of playing around with it also reveals how much more configurable it is than the equivalent Paint Shop Pro function. Mode, sampling, limits, tolerance, fuzziness, not to mention hue, saturation and lightness – whew. In a way I kinda still find it a bit flaky, but I guess that’s only because I don’t yet know CS that well.

But I will, as the high lord Onsnungramature is my witness!
