Typewriting institutes are still around in many parts of the city, and still meeting their ends i guess. Seeing this institute surviving 50+ years allows us to make such impression.

Serie Cerro San Cristobal con Session 13, Roberto Zamorano en la camara, primera vez que me resulta este efecto de flare premeditadamente, siempre me salia una mancha nada que ver, ya le pille el truco. Es curioso ver que en la parte de la camara que sostiene se genero una especie de ruido o aberracion que no habia visto nunca, tomando en cuenta que el unico postproceso fue nivelacion de contraste.

I got my first ever batch of Velvia 100 photos back today. I was stunned at how good the slides look. The scans I got with the slides don’t look as good. I wonder what I can do to a similar quality scan. My first guess is spend more money. These photos have not been retouched.

The colours on all of the photos look washed out compared to the slides.  I think I might get some of these scanned and printed as Christmas gifts.

I’ve been back in Sydney for 6 weeks now & love taking the time out to rediscover this city.  There have been so many lovely days, so it’s not difficult to be motivated to pick up the camera & go for a walk.  On this day I walked from Bellvue Hill to the city (approx. 3hrs) passing Woolloomooloo Wharf….

Then headed toward the Botanic Gardens, passing the Andrew (Boy) Charlton pool, situated in the Domain, overlooking the Navy base…..

then I  sat with an ice-cream for a well earned rest. I loved this day – just taking it all in, appreciating the gorgeous landscape, sunshine & open spaces.

yep…. I certainly did have a lovely day rediscovering Sydney

Primera imagen de la serie de la salida de Session 13 al Cerro San Cristobal, lo que ven, santiago a las 9:00 de la tarde/noche, hace mucho tiempo queria sacar esta foto, pero nunca habia tenido la oportunidad, he visto otras del mismo tipo, de hecho mis compañeros tambien sacaron unas iguales, pero esta es mia. La nota freak de la foto vendria siendo que la saque con un 50mm y no con un gran angular como generalmente se hace.

Session 13 - Parque Botanico & Cerro San Cristobal - 21/11/2009.

Buen paseo nos tiramos con la gente de Session 13 al Parque Botanico y a la Virgen del Cerro san cristobal, eramos 12 personas y la buena onda se dio en todo momento, hubieron varias frases para el bronce y muchas mas fotos interesantes en 7 horas de caminata. Fotos por monton despues del salto.

Aca dejo un lote de imagenes del ambiente y gente que se vivio en el Photowalk, las imagenes personales las ire subiendo de a poco. Olvidense de fotos artisticas, bien enfocadas o compuestas, puro ESP.

… this school (though it might be for demographic reasons and/or commercial reasons) prominently announces its name in all 4 languages, namely English, Tamil, Telugu & Hindi.

Hopefully many such practices allows people to start accepting many languages in their city of dwelling, more peacefully.

Bill and I have had so much fun on all the photowalks we’ve attended that we decided it was time that we organized a photowalk. Since I love seeing all the holiday decorations in DC, I decided that they would make a great subject for a photowalk. The DC Holiday Photowalk will be on December 19 – the holiday decorations should be up all around the city by then. It will be a daytime photowalk. That way – Bill can use one of his Graflex SLRs on the photowalk – and we won’t have to worry about dealing with tripods and DC secuirty.

We’ll meet at Lafayette Park near the White House. Spend some time photographing the holiday decorations at the White House. Then head towards Union Station – ending up at the Union Station Food Court for lunch. I”ll post the exact route for the photowalk when the date gets closer – and I get a chance to see where the great decorations are in the city this year.

The date – Saturday December 19

Starting time – 9:30 AM at Lafayette Park

Ending time – around noon at Union Station.

Lafayette Park is not far from the Red, Orange and Blue Metro Lines, and Union Station is on the Red Line – so you can take Metro rather than driving into the city.

They call it the Golden Fibre. These fibre are made out of a few plants and obviously eco-friendly. Though Sanal (in tamil சனல்) featured here is a rope made from jute is mainly used as a tying rope, especially paper packets, cartons etc, there are other uses too for this fibre.

The Movie UP definitely portrays the Balloon seller in a different light. So many people like these professionals are Unsung heroes in many ways, the kids brighten up seeing them, the carnivals/parks are made cheerful & colourful because of them and many more ways.

Taking advantage of another nice, somewhat sunny day, I went off to visit Animal Kingdom in Bordentown, NJ.  They have a lot of different kinds of monkeys there, and of course, the main attraction for me – the giraffes.

Back when I was younger, I was really into animal rights.  PETA was fairly new then, and not as well-known (or as insanely insane) as it is now.  I would order their pamphlets, check out their books, write letters, get involved with whatever I could.  At the time, I was against zoo and aquariums, believing that animals shouldn’t be caged up and should be allowed to live free.

Today, I realize that it’s quite more complicated than that. Many zoo host endangered and rare species, some of whom wouldn’t survive if it weren’t for breeding programs in zoos to keep the species going.  Plus, many zoos have great environments for the animals to be in. (Of course it’s no comparison to being in the wild, but still.)

Sometimes, though, I have flashbacks of those moments and those feelings when I was younger and today was such a day.  The zoo at Animal Kingdom is pretty small, with many of the animals in small enclosures and what seems to be not too much stimuli, etc.  So I don’t know how I feel about these animals being there.  Here is what the website says:

Animal Kingdom boasts one of the most extensive wild animal collections in New Jersey.  Many of our Animals are endangered species, which is why the zoo is so important.  Our mission is to educate visitors about the importance of preserving the environment and, as a result, the animals that live here.

Another thing really got to me as well.  The zoo allows you to feed some animals, such as some of the monkeys. Other exhibits, such as the giraffes, have clear signs that say not to feed the animals because they have special diets.  Yet, you will see a bunch of people – adults chief among them – carelessly feeding them popcorn or whatever else because, ooo it’s so fun and cool and freaky! The giraffe’s tongue feels so slimy!  The signs could not be bigger or more obvious yet people remain oblivious.  I even saw a guy read the sign and feed the giraffe anyway!  What the hell, that kind of stuff just really pisses me off.

I tried to enjoy my time there even after all that.  Here are some of the photos I captured:

The baby giraffe, Rocket, was so cute! He was running around all over the place. He was actually born at the zoo in July 2008.

I looked around everywhere to figure out what this was but couldn’t find a sign. After examining the photos I came to the conclusion it is a tapir and my zoology professor mom-in-law confirmed. Then we Googled it – South American Tapir! Do I know my animals or what!

Kind of ending on a sad note, but the monkeys in cages killed me.  This one looks like some kind of lemur, based on the eyes.

The young parishioner at the Our Lady of Lourdes Church – Mary Immaculate at Perambur. He was too shy to tell me his name, but. Though he was very happy to see that he was clicked and posed quite a bit.

This is a technique applied by many households in yesteryear’s, to avoid robbers and thieves scaling their roofs and running away with their loot. They place broken glass pieces on their front portion of the compound walls / roofs etc to keep the thieves in bay.

O podemos llamarlo photowalk

Unas pocas fotografías, la mayoría flores (mi gran amor), que hice mientras paseaba hace unos días.

Qué preciosa margarita… Qué simetría !!!

Las dalias ya empiezan a estar muy marchitas.

Y mis queridas hortensias… Esta flor que a veces me recuerda a Galicia, a veces me recuerda a Japón (dependiendo de donde esté). En Japón suelen durar muy poquito, básicamente durante la estación del tsuyu (temporada de lluvia en Junio), pero en Galicia suelen durar mucho tiempo.

…. this school at Mint street has seen 155 years of service and that many children passing through them to go on to higher studies. Some of their alumnae are Vallalar, Dr S Thanickachalam and many more.

But this school currently is in a bad shape due to their inabilities to raise funds and sustain the running of the school by their trust. So as a result from 2500 students at its peak now the strength is 350 odd students. Hopefully their alumnae will come together and see their Alma mater tide the difficult times.
