Biggest development from the PIDSSA meeting today = 101 week kits will be $90

This reflects higher costs and an expanded schedule for the week. It’s going to be wild.
Kudos to Amanda and Tristan for what will prove to be an awesome week.

Stay tuned.

It’s old news.

But, Catherine M. Lee, former Full time professor in the School of Psychology, is the new “interim” Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences.

Dean Catherine M. Lee, B.Sc., M.A.Sc., Ph.D.

Her interim status – which I am told will last until at least the end of the next academic year (April 2010) – makes it exponentially more important to have solid student representation on the Faculty Council which will begin the process of eventually “electing” a permanent Dean over the course of the next six to eight months.

Ms. Lee takes over the helm of the Faculty of Social Science from Francois Houle who is now the Vice President Academic and Provost of the University of Ottawa. His tenure was populated with several important developments in the Faculty. Including, but certainly not limited to, the expansion of the School of International Development and Global Studies, the design of two new buildings and the implementation of one, the expansion of student space and new programs in Human Rights and Conflict Studies.

Everyone else is doing it, why not me?

I hate blogging. Well I don’t hate it, I just don’t overtly like it. I find it so cumbersome.

I’ve tried blogging before.
In fact, you can check it out – here and here.

You’ll see these two attempts at blogging, one a bit more successful than the other, soon waned. They filled their purpose – subdued some boredom, provided a glimpse of fame (ha), gave a platform to babble – and then out the window.

But this seems different. As a student representative, I think I might now have something worth to blogging about.

Who knows…

Maybe we’ll get our own “Shinerama-gate” or something groundbreaking will take place at the Senate meeting …hmm…like hoards of students with their Sony Handycams a blazin’ ….perhaps an eight-hour debate on something usless (Faculty Councilor anyone?).

Or, maybe, just maybe, something will get done.

Maybe we will be successful in expanding accountability. Maybe we enforce better communications practices. Maybe we’ll expand course selections and coop programs. Maybe we will allow our term to be defined by accomplishments rather than patronage and politics.

Maybe we will move forward on real solutions for real students.

Now that would be something worth blogging about!!
