Pink Petitcoat The difference between commercial soap making and handmade soap is that extra fat is

Pink Petitcoat

The difference between commercial soap making and handmade soap is that extra fat is used and the glycerin is not removed. Though it might give the skin a greaser feel after bathing, handmade soap is generally better for conditioning the skin.

Handmade soaps go through a similar, though more organic, process as commercial soaps. “Soapers” (as handmade soap makers are called) use on the average six ounces of water for every 16 ounces of fat. After they add the lye and it neutralizes, the soap mixture thickens and changes color. It is then poured into molds – usually wood, plastic or other molds in various shapes – to harden for 24-36 hours.

Soapers cut the hardened soap from the molds and place it on drying racks for four to six weeks to “cure,” meaning excess water is allowed to evaporate. The hardness, lathering capacity and transparency of the final product will depend on what kind of fats and what kind of alkali (or catalyst like lye) is used in the purification process of soap making. Also the time frame will depend of which method is used to make the soap. Soapmakers have developed different ways to speed up the process, like using the crock pot, the oven, the top of the stove and even the sun outside, to dry faster the water inside the soap to have it ready for the market sooner. Still, a good soap is better if left to rest for a few weeks, just like a good cheese!

dumdum handmade soap, private collection

The animal fat used in most soap is tallow (beef fat). Some soaps use lard (pork fat) like me and by combining an animal fat with an alkali salt, like sodium hydroxide, you get soap. Today, most of the fat coming for the animal has been through away because there is no market for it. The fashion is to eat lean and people are getting fatter! So, by using the fat coming from the already processed meat of the animal (we just need to eat), we make soap.

So far, my own experience here, my best quality of soaps are made with animal fats. My soap often lasts about twice as long as conventional bars and is extremely moisturizer and soothing to the skin.

I prefer to use the fat coming from the pig, simply because it is already available in the food markets around me. Pork fat ensures a thick and lasting foam, the soap is soft and soluble.

Mexicans people use every single part of their animals and pigs are a big market of meat around here. There are also a good quality of fat coming from the chickens but I have yet to experiment with it.

In the current international environmentally friendly movement, soaps made from vegetable fats like olive oil are gaining popularity. A trend again that will pass…

To date : this soap is by far the best one I have made over the 3 years experience I got so far : Bum Bandit.

bum bandit handmade soap

I had 9 bars of this one and little by little they all moved away from my inventory. You see, for most of my soaps, it is all given away to people stopping by and smelling my house full of those little wonders of mine. But this Bum Bandit got them all by the nose… And like anything else that is so good, I cannot reproduce this soap because it was a rebatched soap, meaning that a full container of left over handmade scraps of soap was used to make this one. To the melted process, I added cardamom spice and few dark mica colors and finished it up with a fragrance oil of pumpkin.

This Bum Bandit soap is so hard, it is unbelievable. It will last 2 weeks in the shower, counting 4 showers per day. It was left as a ugly looking soap, very dark in appearance and today, it is even darker now.

What makes this one stands up more than all the others? The strong smell of it, the hardness of this piece, the feeling of yet softness of the fat used to create it, the colors, the respect I get when I have it in my hand. When this soap is wet, the amount of bubble coming out is endless to the hand. It leaves the skin of the face with a freshness that only expensive creams can compete with it. It does not stain the towels, does not stain the skin and stay very hard even when wet. This Bum Bandit is part of special brand by itself. And you what? All the left overs used here for this soap were coming from ‘lard’ recipe, yap, pork fat. There is a difference using Lard versus Veggie grease.

What a soap!

Now this is a calcul done with MMS lye calculator on-line. This is a recipe I use when I use those oils and fats. My lye is always calculated at 5% and I use the minimum of water they recommend and never use their maximum, my choice. But over the years, I came to the conclusion that even a small .00 something can change the whole recipe. The use of a good kitchen scale (digital even better) is very important here. I lost some batches just because I had .06 of too much lye in my soap and it took forever to lose the lye after the process was done. When the lye stays alive in a soap, just throw it away and begin again. Lye burns the skin and you don’t want to play with fire here.

Why Pig Fat is not mentioned but code(s) are printed?? In nearly all the western countries including

Why Pig Fat is not mentioned but code(s) are printed??

In nearly all the western countries including Europe, the PRIMARY choice for meat is PIG. There are a lot of farms in these countries to breed this animal.

In France alone, pig farms account for more than 42,000.

PIGS have the highest quantity of FAT in their body compared to other animals. And Europeans and Americans try to avoid fats.

Thus, where does the FAT from these PIGS go? All pigs are cut in slaughter houses under the control of the department of food and it was the headache of the department of food to dispose of the fat removed from these pigs.

Formally, it was burnt (about 60 years ago). Then they thought of utilizing it. First, they experimented it in the making of SOAPS and it worked.

Then, a full network was formed and this FAT was chemically processed, packed and marketed, while the other manufacturing companies bought it. In the meantime, all European states made a rule that every Food, Medical and Personal Hygiene product should have the ingredients listed on its cover. So, this ingredient was listed as PIG FAT.

Those who are living in Europe for the past 40 years know about this.
But, these products came under a ban by the ISLAMIC COUNTRIES at that
time, which resulted in a trade deficit to the western countries.

Going back in time, if you are somehow related to South East Asia, you might know about the provoking factors of the 1857 INDIAN MUTINY. At that time, rifle bullets were made in Europe and transported to the sub-continent by sea vessels. It took months to reach India and the gun powder in it was ruined due to the exposure to sea.

Then, they got the idea of coating the bullets with fat, which was PIG FAT. The fat layer had to be scratched by teeth before using them. When the word spread, the soldiers, mostly Muslim and some Vegetarians, refused to fight, which eventually lead to the mutiny.
The Europeans recognized these facts, and instead of writing PIG FAT,
they started writing ANIMAL FAT. All those living in Europe since the 1970’s know this fact. When the companies were asked by authorities from the MUSLIM countries, what animal fat is it, they were told it was COW and SHEEP Fat. Here again a question raised, if it was COW or SHEEP Fat, it was still HARAAM to MUSLIMS, as these animals were not SLAUGHTERED as per the ISLAMIC LAW. Thus, they were again banned.
Now, these multinational companies were again facing a severe drought of money as 75% of their income comes from selling their goods to Muslim countries, and these earn BILLIONS OF DOLLARS of profit from their exports to the MUSLIM WORLD.

Finally they decided to start a coding language, so that only their Departments of Food Administration should know what they are using, and the common man is left in the dark. Thus, they started E-CODES. These E-INGREDIENTS are present in a majority of products of multinational firms including, but not limited to . . .

TOOTH PASTE, SHAVING CREAM, CHEWING GUM, CHOCOLATE, SWEETS, BISCUITS, CORN FLAKES, TOFFEES, CANNED FOODS,
FRUIT TINS, some medication Multi-vitamins, etc.

Since these goods are being commonly used in all MUSLIM Countries, our society is facing problems like shamelessness, rudeness and sexual promiscuity.

So, I request all MUSLIMS or non-pork eaters to check the ingredients of the ITEMS of daily use and match it with the following list of E-CODES. If any of the ingredients listed below is found, try to avoid it, as it contains PIG FAT.

E-Codes:

…to get the High Holidays off to a great start, right? (The answer is “Wrong,” fyi.)

Apparently Tel Aviv’s religious council is warning that shofars made in China may be smeared with pig fat (which is a little pas comme il faut, but not technically un-kosher, I believe, unless you’re snacking on your shofar–correct me if I’m wrong) and that one shouldn’t purchase shofars made in Morocco, because, according to a rabbi on the council,

It’s disrespectful bringing a shofar prepared by an Arab on Shabbat into a synagogue.

Right, I guess I forgot that “love thy neighbor” doesn’t apply during the month of Elul…

Ouch!! I got stung by a bee, today! The first time in my entire life! How did this happen, you ask?

Ouch!!

I got stung by a bee, today! The first time in my entire life!

How did this happen, you ask? Oh, it’s simple really.

You see, I was outside grilling my steak… where I stepped onto the grass. Apparently, bees have no sense of danger and allow themselves to be stepped on by creatures 1000 times their size.

Following the crushing blow of my foot to the bee’s head, he jumped into defense mode. All he could do was shove his minuscule spear-of-an-ass into my heel and hope for the best.

It worked, let me tell you!

At first I felt a slight poke and passed it off as… “oh, i’m standing on a twig”. Then it hit me… “there was no twig when I walked over here… wait a minute… it’s poking MORE…. what the–” and just as I went to move my foot and look down, the sharp internal burn set forth throughout my entire heel.

Ouch.

I quickly lifted my foot, looked down, and to my dismay discovered a terrified bee.. flapping around in a desperate fury to no longer be crushed by my apparent giant-human-foot. He quickly flew away. Leaving me standing, one-legged, dumbfounded as to what had just occurred.

The pain subsided in about 10 minutes. And yes, my steak still ended up in my belly.

Nothing can keep me from my food! Not even a bee!!

—–

In other news: I attempted to make my own Mayo today. Boy was that interesting… !

It turned out alright. I used this recipe. However, I altered it to use Coconut Butter in place of Olive Oil and no salt. It turned out sweet… but it’s really yummy! I’m thinking of maybe adding some fresh Garlic to it to better counteract the level of sweet. This would make a lovely Garlic Aioli Mmmm…

Today’s Menu:

Yet another day of egg-related gass. Ick! Not liking this at all… I think I’m going to just keep them to recipes from now on… atleast until I can find an actual free-run, local, organic, pasture-raised chicken farm. I’m not sure how I feel about my chicken’s eating grains they wouldn’t naturally have access to….perhaps that’s has done my stomach in!

OH!! I mustn’t forget to divulge my new-found love in oil. Coconut oil! Actually… it’s a butter to be precise. This stuff tastes amazing… and is now my main “fat” for cooking and eating.. until I find local, organic, grass-fed, lard (which btw has become a rather daunting task imparting no results).

The oil is made from a company called Artisana. It’s whole coconut blended with coconut oil. It’s deeeeeeeeeelish… and raw I prefer the use of a whole food rather than a processed remenant of one (just oil).

Another note – I’m now on the hunt for local ancient breeds of apples. Oh yes… I’m going all the way with this “Paleo” thing, baby!!

Dr Amjad Khan (Medical Research Institute, United States) has proved after a research that many products of common use including, but not limited to;

TOOTH PASTE,

SHAVING CREAM

CHEWING GUM,

CHOCOLATE,

SWEETS,

BISCUITS,
CORN FLAKES,

TOFFEES,

CANNED FOODS,

FRUIT TINS,

have PIG FATS in them as ingredients.

This is shown in the form of E-Codes printed on the packs of such products. So we must try to avoid items with the following E Codes:E100, E110, E120, E 140, E141, E153, E210, E213, E214, E216, E234, E252,E270, E280, E325, E326, E327, E334, E335, E336, E337, E422, E430, E431, E432, E433, E434, E435, E436, E440, E470, E471, E472, E473, E474, E475,E476, E477, E478, E481, E482, E483, E491, E492, E493, E494, E495, E542,E570, E572, E631, E635, E904.

Now what’s the mystery of PIG FAT any way!!

The whole thing is that E series flavors can be made from three methods which are;

1. It can be obtained from sardines (fish).

2. It can be made from brewer yeast extract which is a by-product of beer making process.

3. It can be extracted from pig meat.

If method #1 is used then it is Halal.

If method #2 is used then it is not Haram but it is better to avoid it.

However if method #3 is used then most certainly it is Haram.

Now the pint to be noted is that all you people know PIGS are very common in Europe and USA but in Asia PIGS are not that much common. In USA and Europe PIG FAT is a very cheap and readily available product as compared to other two options of making E series flavors as in these regions people like to keep PIGS as pets. But in ASIA PIG fat is not easily available and its costly too. But even then PIG FAT can be used to make these flavors in ASIA.

So my suggestion is not to use any product with E series flavor as you are not sure about its source.

Considering the famous Lays Potato Chips case in which E631 code is printed on it’s pack which is also made from PIG Fats. The following images clearly show code E631 printed in the ingredients of LAYS POTATO CHIPS as flavor enhancers.

Lays Masala Wrapper

Lays with E621

But Pepsi Cola International, the manufacturer of LAYS Chips has shown following certificates against this conspiracy which are from a Thailand based company which supplies the E631 to Pepsi Cola stating that their manufactured E631 does not contain any PIG Fats along with a certificate from an Islamic council.

Islamic council certificate

IFF Certificate

But the interesting part is that on the website of this company, there is no such product named E631 or Disodium inosinate (chemical name), Masala Magic PC (Brand name).
Their products list can be checked at the following address;
http://www.iff.com/__85256C33004F6FEB.NSF/FlavIngredients!OpenForm

You can also email this company to confirm whether they are making this product and from which source but from my side, Please don’t use these products as there are 100’s of other products available in market.

“Who will want to save them?” i.e. “Who wants to capture any alive?”
Mumbai: Doctors Shocked At Hostages Torture reports that the Islamic supremacist perpetrators of the Mumbai massacre tortured many of their hostages before murdering them. The article also says, however, that the Indians may have used what Kumbaya-singing Westerners might call “excessive violence” on the terrorists. The Islamic supremacists’ faces were “beyond recognition” and “One of the terrorists was shot through either eye.”

In other words, the terrorists got exactly what they deserved, and what the United States and Israel ought to give the perpetrators of 9/11 and Ma’alot respectively on a routine basis. The French use the term “pour encourager les autres”–literally “to encourage the others,” but more generally “as an example to others.” We stated more than 25 years ago that first aid for wounded terrorists should be limited to the cost of a single pistol cartridge.

Terrorists feel free to detonate nail bombs in synagogues and pizza parlors, orchestrate the 9/11 atrocity, cut off people’s heads, torture hostages, gun down children at Ma’alot, and shoot pregnant women in their bellies because they know that the Kumbaya-singing West will usually give them at most time in a relatively comfortable jail (e.g. Guantanamo, where prisoners gain weight and have access to first-class medical care), with an excellent chance of very early release. As an example, Israel released numerous terrorists in exchange for the bodies of Israeli soldiers, and at least one individual who was freed from Guantanamo resumed operations with a terrorist group.

The convicted terrorist who got life without parole at an American maximum security prison, and the Bali bombers who were recently executed by Indonesia, were four very unlucky exceptions to the general rule that terrorism carries no price tag. Piracy is meanwhile on the upswing because pirates are no longer hanged from the nearest yardarm as was once legal and customary.

The methods of the Roman Empire and Vlad Dracula were very effective in discouraging banditry and terrorism, but they would admittedly not pass muster under the U.S. Constitution. On the other hand, there is no question that most terrorists would be deterred by the prospect of being treated as horrifically than their victims. They should be treated as completely outside civilized law, and with no protections under the Hague or Geneva Convention (which apply to uniformed combatants who conduct their operations in accordance with the laws of war). It is said that General Pershing executed Islamic supremacist terrorists with bullets that had been lubricated with pig fat. This is something for hostage rescue teams to consider in the future; in retrospect, the Indians could have rubbed their bullets with pig fat before using them on the terrorists.

Punishment (or retaliation) that does not serve at least one of the following three functions is useless sadism: (1) correction of the perpetrator’s behavior, (2) prevention of future crimes by the perpetrator, and (3) deterrence of like-minded individuals. The actions of the Indian commandos fulfilled objectives (2) and (3) perfectly. The dead terrorists will never harm another innocent person, and other prospective terrorists will be deterred.

Meanwhile, India has given us a real-world alternative to the line, “What Would Jack Baeur Do?”: “Unko bachana kaun chahega?”

The flow of maple syrup, that is.

It occurred to me during a recent grocery expedition and some follow-up Google searching how important it is to buy organic maple syrup. Earlier on Green as a Thistle, I wrote about honey, and made the switch to organic for the sake of the bees, but today it’s for the sake of the trees.

Why is it so important to get organic syrup? Well, for numerous reasons, but here are just a few, courtesy of Béland Organic Foods:

Organic syrup doesn’t use any lead or lead solder in the processing equipment, so consequently there’s no lead in the finished product.

During the running season, Béland cleans its line system with natural biodegradable products.

In making organic maple syrup, there are no synthetic chemicals used to control foam during boiling; instead, certified organic and Montreal Kosher vegetable anti-foaming agents are used. Often, at least in the past, pig fat was used to prevent foaming (sick!).

While brand-named syrups are sometimes made with sap that’s been treated by UV radiation or microwaved, and the “pancake” syrups are mostly just corn starch, organic Grade B maple syrup is pretty much straight from the tree.

Finally, organic sap farms don’t mess with any pesticides or GMOs; they treat their trees with respect to ensure a long and natural life.

So from now on, my sweet tooth will only be sated with ethically responsible syrups. All it requires is spending an extra couple bucks, which I think is pretty simple.
