You can lose fat weight while maintaining muscle and tone. I’ve recently been researching various fat loss methods and stumbled across Eat Stop Eat which is a form of Intermittent Fasting (IF) from Brad Pilon. The basic premise is that fasting reduces calorie intake whilst increasing certain metabolic and hormonal activities all of which lead to a loss of fat and fat only.

I’ve been on this particular course for over a month now, since then i have lost over 14 pounds of fat and have more energy than i’ve ever had. It’s worth adding here that i have had my reservations about this particular type of diet as i feel it can promote in certain individuals eating disorders, however, it happens to work and work very well. Eat Stop Eat sets out up to two 24hr periods of fasting but you never go a day without eating; so for instance i tend to go from dinner to dinner (6pm to 6pm).

Brad is a qualified nutritionist and has a history in the health and fitness industry, his ebook contains sound research and over 45 references to research carried out in the field of fasting. I do not claim that Eat Stop Eat is the only method of fasting available as it may work for you and you should research other methods that may suit you, however, i have found this method to be highly effective and the most manageable due to it’s flexibility.

The key to maintaining muscle mass whilst following IF is to incorporate 3 fairly intense resistance based sessions a week lasting no longer than 1 hour. If you don’t follow this rule you risk losing muscle which will not give you a lean healthy look.

I should also mention this isn’t just a fringe idea, it has hit the mainstream at the Daily Mail which will give you some ideas as to the benefits of IF.

I highly reccomend you take a look at Eat Stop Eat and give some form of IF a try. As with any new diet you should clear it with your doctor so book an appointment before you try anything.

La mise au pilon est un acte souvent considéré comme sacrilège par les lecteurs, mais nécessaire. Cependant on découvre souvent que certains bibliothécaires ont également beaucoup de mal à jeter.

Un jour, un lapin, emprunt de créativité et de partage des saveurs de son jardin, cultive une belle carotte. Après des mois voire des années de désherbage intensif, de chasse aux gastéropodes et d’arrosage minutieux, elle est fin prête pour le grand jour.

Au prix d’un parcours périlleux jalonné d’attentes interminables et de refus innombrables, Lédi Teur permet au lapin de faire connaître sa carotte au monde entier. Certains seront intéressés par la carotte et en redemanderont, d’autres ne sauront même pas qu’elle existe, pauvre carotte !

Le lapin, quant à lui, sera parfois réduit en terrine par les affres de Laconso Mation ou en civet par les terribles Cri Tiques. S’il échappe à la célébrité, peut-on dire que son sort est plus enviable ? Est-il préférable de finir pris au collet à peine sorti du terrier ? Et à ce moment, que devient la belle carotte ? Elle est cuite pardi !

Déjà un moment sans billet sur une des pièces d’Expotec 103… Remédions à cela avec la forge Mustad avec Marc Tiret à la démonstration !

Marc Tiret est sculpteur sur fer forgé et il vient de temps en temps au Centre d’Histoire Sociale de Haute-Normandie pour utiliser la forge Mustad qui y est exposée.

Cette forge présente l’avantage d’être accompagnée d’un marteau pilon. Cela facilite grandement le travail.

Et comme il faut bien commencer quelque part, autant allumer la forge…

Allumage de la forge

La forge Mustad est une forge à double foyer. Deux personnes peuvent y travailler simultanément.

Marc Tiret n’utilise qu’un seul foyer, étant seul.

Le combustible de cette forge est de la houille. Et la houille, quand ça démarre, ça fait beaucoup de fumée, comme en témoigne la photo suivante :

Le hangar s’est vite rempli de cette fumée, la hotte ne pouvant en aspirer la totalité.

Les flammes jaunes/oranges indiquent une combustion incomplète tandis que les flammes bleues indiquent une combustion complète. Pour y arriver, il faut que l’oxygène arrive en quantité suffisante.

Autrefois on utilisait de grands soufflets qu’il fallait actionner manuellement.

Aujourd’hui, il suffit d’appuyer sur un bouton pour activer la soufflerie, c’est plus pratique.

La soufflerie ne souffle pas dessus ou sur le côté mais en dessous du foyer. L’arrivée d’air étant constante, une manette permet de régler la quantité injectée dans le foyer.

La pièce à travailler est placé au cœur du foyer, là où la température est la plus haute.

Toute la difficulté désormais consiste à déterminer la bonne température nécessaire au travail de la pièce : trop froide la pièce sera difficile à travailler, trop chaud, la pièce risque d’atteindre sa température de fusion et couler dans le foyer.

Le travail de forge génère des déchets qu’on appelle mâchefer.

Une fois la pièce amenée à bonne température, il ne reste plus qu’à la travailler.

On a tous en tête le forgeron utilisant un marteau et une enclume. Si ces outils restent incontournables, on a quand même progressé !

Pour les forges bien équipées il y a le marteau pilon.

C’est un merveilleux outil qui tape plus fort et plus souvent qu’un marteau. Autant dire qu’il vaut mieux éviter de mettre son doigt dessous.

Le rapport de gain de temps est approximativement de 4.

Le marteau et l’enclume restent malgré tout nécessaires pour peaufiner le résultat.

Am zis că ma întorc la dragostea mea dintâi.  Şi încet-încet parcă revenisem. Nu chiar în fiecare zi, dar…oricum. Mi se făcuse şi dor. Un dor din ala care nu-ţi dă pace şi iti tot răscoleşte fiecare colţişor al minţii. Şi gândurile parcă îmi tot dădeau târcoale, parcă tot mai mulţi “de ce” apăreau… Şi parcă mă apucase regretul că am lăsat-o abandonată, uitată şi o tot dam cu conjugări de verbe la timpul trecut, cu cafele aburinde şi innecate dimineaţa de la etajul 7… şi parcă mă ucideam personal, în fiecare zi, şi căutam răspunsuri fără întrebări… dar nu le găseam…

Acum, zilelele sunt mai pline. Sunt mai multe surprize-surprize pe scena politică. Mă c-am omoară actorii că joacă roluri ieftine şi uneori chiar disperate. Disperate pentru că ba li se suflă un fotoliu moale şi cald de sub nas. Ba nu ştiu ce vor şi nu au obiective concrete. Atunci scena si actorii se transformă în piese de joc şi o tabla de şah. Mai grav e că survin nişte mutări, chiar penibile, pe această tablă. Pilonii care până mai ieri erau simpli soldaţi, cu o valoare scăzută fac nişte mutări destul de spectaculoase. Aceasta se întîmplă dintr-o simplă miscare, ca şi cum ai clipi odată din genele adânc rimelate.

Unul din turnuri pare să facă efectul, dar e o iluzie. Dar nu iluzii din cele ale lui Honore de Balsac. S epare că cel mai important pe actuala tablă de şah e jocul nebunului. Face mişcări, apropieri, indepărtari, sărituri, chiar nebunii, uneori disparitii şi mult spectacol. Poate are nevoie de consultatia medicului psihiatru. Mai ales că deputaţii au nevoie de un certificat de la psihiatrie. Asta nu pentru că ar fi nebuni, dar…pentru orice eventualitate…dar cel mai grav e că nebunul cât e el de nebun câştigă în putere spre sfârşitul jocului.

De aceea, trebuie de găsit o Regină. Dar unde s-a ascuns?

14. Shoot ‘Em Up

Spilletid: 86 min

En mann, Mr. Smith (Owen), sitter ved et busstopp og ser en gravid kvinne forte seg forbi. Litt etter kommer en mann med pistol. Smith føler seg ansvarlig, og dreper mannen, før han fungerer som jordmor (jordfar?) mens en gjeng med folk prøver å skyte han. Moren til barnet dør, men Smith kommer seg unna med barnet. Han kontakter Donna Quintano (Bellucci), en prostituert som har mistet barnet sitt, og dermed har brystmelk. Hun går motvillig med på å hjelpe ham. Men det viser seg at noen er besatt etter å ta knekken på ungen, og grunnen er større enn Smith noengang kunne tenkt seg.

Det er to måter å se på denne filmen. Den første gjør den til en av de teiteste og tåpeligste actionfilmene noensinne, mens den andre gjør den til en utrolig morsom parodi på actionklisjeer og et smart studie i hvor langt grenser kan strekkes for komedie. Jeg ser på det på den andre måten. Dette er en av årets definitivt morsomste filmer. De går over i urealistisk territorie med vilje, og det er rett og slett synd at så mange ikke forstår intensjonen med filmen.

Alle karakterene er herlig overdrevne. Spesielt Clive Owen sin hovedperson er veldig bra. Paul Giamatti som skurken varierer litt mer, men han har absolutt sine øyeblikk av genialitet. Det jeg også liker godt med filmen, er at det i tillegg til en utrolig mengde over-the-top-scener også er en god del veldig tørre vitser og ordspill.

Men om en skal klage på noe, så kunne nok manuset vært enda litt bedre, i forhold til morsomheter. Det er ikke alle som treffer helt. Historien er også litt unødvendig innviklet, spesielt med tanke på hvordan resten av filmen er lagt opp. I tillegg kan det nevnes at det er noen effekter som er litt halvveis.

Men alt i alt, så er det sjelden en actionfilm får meg til å le skikkelig høyt og godt i kinosalen. Det var en gjennomført underholdende 1,5 time jeg hadde når jeg så denne, og den har fungert nesten like bra når jeg har sett den igjen senere. Anbefales på litt av samme grunnlag som gårsdagens Wanted, men her trengs det en viss kjennskap til action-sjangeren for at du skal få fullt utbytte.

MOFONGO

3 Plátanos Verdes
1 lt de Caldo de Pollo (preparar los de cubitos)
1/2 lb de Chicarrón de Cerdo
3 Dientes de ajo
Sal
1 cda cilantro picadito (verdurita)
aceite

PREPARACION:

Se pelan los plátanos en trozos de 1 pulgada de largo y se fríen en el aceite, suficientemente caliente, hasta que se tornen ligeramente dorados. Se corta el chicharrón en pequeños trozos y en un mortero (pilon) grande de mezclan poco a poco con el plátano y los dientes de ajo machacados. Se prepara el caldo de pollo y se mantiene caliente.

Luego se sirve en pequeños recipientes el caldo de pollo y a cada persona se le sirve en partes iguales el mofongo y se le espolvorea el cilantro picado. Para ir comiendo se le va humedeciendo con el caldo de pollo.

Yo me voy a poner a inventar a ver como me sale.

Desde que postee la pasada semana la receta de los bacalaitos o torrejas salio algo del cual no me aguante y me puse a investigar y resulta de que en verdad este plato parece que nacio en el canal de la mona o es de padres dominicanos nacido en puerto rico o viseversa lo cierto es que tiene leves variantes y lo que si sabemos es que en la isla del encanto aparentemente son mayores consumidores de mofongo que nosotros aparentemente aca se come mas saludable pero de todas formas somos dueños de tan delicioso manjar del cual podemos estar orgullosos

MOFONGO

Tonight’s the Veep debate. Biden v. Palin, what a treat. This will, needless to say, be interesting. I’ll conjure up some thoughts after the debate, or you can catch me on Twitter (sarcascio).

Earlier this afternoon I went to a Federalist Society meeting. Now, for those of you who don’t know, FedSoc is the conservative/libertarian group who believe in a strict construction of the Constitution–meaning that what’s there is there and nothing should be read into it–and believe judges shouldn’t “legislate from the bench.”

That latter phrase is especially meaningless, because that’s essentially what the common law is. Court gets a case, there’s no statute controlling the issue, the judges make shit up based on vague legal authority and even more vague legal scholarship. Boom. Common law, until it gets overruled or reversed. Judges read into legislation all the live long day to find out what intent a given legislature has imbued into it. In fact, there’s a whole section of my Torts class where we talked about how judges were reading into criminal statutes what intent the legislatures had to see if they (the judges) could import that criminal statute into tort law.

Right from out of their asses, it came.

So anyway, I think “judicial activism” is a silly phrase, when basically the judiciary is always activist in some form or another to some group or another.

Anyway, the speaker was this fellow, Roger Pilon, who was an interesting speaker, to say the least. He definitely butted heads with some of the folks in the room, including this guy, Professor Sasha Volokh, who, along with his brother, run The Volokh Conspiracy. Needless to say, all of these people are really big deals in the legal world: Pilon is with the Cato Institute and has an impressive CV, and the Volokhs are equally impressive.

Pilon mainly talked about the 14th Amendment and how it essentially ruined America for all the libertarians out there. He wants to return to a very strict interpretation of the Constitution, one exactly and totally in line with how the Founders wrote it. He fully believes this is a tenable position to hold. I am not so sure.

I did agree with some of what he was saying: the government should only step in when the rights of a person or group are being trampled on by some other person or group. That is perfectly fine. However, Pilon paints the government as a villain in all that it does, not a necessary evil but an unnecessary evil. He also made some incediary remarks about how we are not all equal and that there is no equality of opportunity, only “equality under the law.” This is, of course, open for debate.

Anyway, this gentleman, Professor Peter Linzer, gave a rebuttal to what Pilon was saying and agreed with him on many things but also disagreed with him. He mainly diverged from Pilon regarding government intervention into the markets, citing the current crisis as evidence that a lack of government intervention is what caused this in the first place. Pilon countered with a vaguely “But Clinton!” statement, claiming that the Clinton administration wanted to broaden Fannie and Freddie’s ability to give subprime loans to people who apparently could not pay them back. Now, your humble author doesn’t know all the nuances of the crisis, so I will hold my judgment on this.

All in all, it was a very good lecture. Most people left around 1pm because they had class, but I stayed for about 45 more minutes to hear students (and Professor Volokh) try to argue against Pilon, who had a coherent response for every question.

I think this is why I came to law school, this fascinating exchange of ideas. It’s too bad you don’t really get that during class…

Pylon sería el nombre en inglés que, traduciéndolo al español, podría quedar como Pilón; sin embargo este término no dice nada de su concepto tipográfico, por lo tanto creo que el más correcto para el castellano podría ser algúno como Enlace o Conexión.
