C’est une brève parue sur le site de Caradisiac qui introduit le sujet : comment les marques automobiles gèrent les adeptes de tuning?

Largement répandu à travers le globe, le tuning consiste à customiser son véhicule selon des modalités pas toujours très glamours… Les idées reçues véhiculées par ces pratiques sont d’ailleurs mal connotées en dehors des communautés de fans.

La logique marketing poussent les marques à monter en gamme et essayer des vendre des voitures toujours plus équipées à des prix toujours plus hauts. Il devient toutefois compliqué de gérer cette stratégie lorsqu’une partie de sa clientèle y injecte les valeurs du tuning, souvent très populaires (cf. vidéo ci-dessous)…

Quelques marques tentent de “premiumiser” le tuning. Après tout, ce hobby n’est pas forcément incompatible avec le marketing de la personnalisation et de la série limitée.

Mini propose par exemple à ses clients une gamme d’accessoires très vastes qui leur permettent de tuner sa voiture de manière chic.

Ford va présenter plusieurs préparations tunées de sa Mustang au SEMA show, THE salon du tuning à Las Vegas. La marque s’est rendu compte que son modèle culte était l’auto la plus customisée au Etats-Unis. Les propriétaires ont dépensé pas moins de 31 milliards de dollars l’année dernière en accessoires… Une manne bienvenue pour l’industrie automobile US en berne..

Comment concilier les aspirations statutaires des marques avec la réalité des usages des consommateurs? Vaste sujet…

Bonus : une petite perle

Jag var inte riktigt nöjd med pimpningen från Cykla för klimatet så jag fortsatte på egen hand igår.

Nä, skämt åsido så är det här min cykel efter att jag varit och fyndat vid en container. Kjelti hade tipsat mig om att det bredvid elektronikcontainern nu placerats gallervagnar fulla med kablar, tangentbord och andra datordelar. Och eftersom just kablar och tangentbord är utmärkt pysselmaterial så begav jag mig dit igårkväll.

När jag varit där ett tag och som bäst stod och slet i ormboet av kablar så kom det en liten lastbil körandes upp framför mig. Den tvärbromsade sådär läskigt nära min cykel och lät strålkastarna vara på så att man blev totalt bländad och inte såg nåt alls. Ut hoppade… världens sötaste lilla hund. Efter kom husse och undrade vad jag höll på med och sa att det var olagligt och att folk i huset ringt efter honom och att det var han som skulle ta bort containern imorgon. Jag vet inte om det var för att jag satt på knä och klappade hans hund eller att jag hade Cykla för klimatet-hjälmen på mig eller för att jag var ärlig och berättade för honom vad jag skulle ha sakerna till eller att jag höll med honom om att det var för jävligt att folk skräpat ner runt containern eller om det var en kombination av allt det ovanstående men det slutade med att han hjälpte mig att öppna gallervagnarna så att jag lättare kunde komma åt sakerna. Han berättade att han inte heller tyckte om att det slängdes en massa och att han själv brukade sortera ut saker han ville ha ur skrotet.

Efter mycket om och men så lyckades jag surra fast allt på cykeln och kunde le den hemåt. Fortfarande med den pyntade hjälmen på huvudet. Stans garanterat konstigaste cykelekipage.

Idag har jag skruvat isär tangentbord och fascinerats över hur de är uppbyggda och de små variationerna mellan de olika modellerna. Och vilken skattkammare det är för en pyssloman:

Xzibit’s been noticeably absent from the limelight since his popular MTV series, Pimp My Ride, was taken off the air. Now he’s appearing on another network, ABC, and helping families in need with repairing their houses. X to the Z will appear on an episode of Extreme Home Makeover Sunday, October 11. On the episode he’ll help the makeover team build a new home for the Hill family of Suffield, Connecticut.

He recently spoke to the New York Daily News about his volunteer effort and the difficult task of building a home saying,

“It was something I was definitely interested in. I didn’t know what I was signing up for; building a house in seven days is something else.”

X also mentioned to the paper that building a house for someone was totally different from revamping a car like on ‘Pimp’ saying,

“It’s totally different. I got to know the family, the mother, the father, the kids, and the situation they were in. To see them go through that, and see the transformation … it’s something to know anticipation for myself, but when you anticipate something for somebody else, it’s something exciting.”

No word on when we can expect new music from the west coast MC.

There is something that has been branded into our heads and that is a brand name.  I don’t care what it is, brand names run our lives.

From day one we learned of certain items that are a part of our collective psyche.

What would we do without McDonalds?  Seriously folks?  We may talk about how yucky it is and how the food is bad for you, but ever so often, at least once a year…I get some Mickey D’s fries.  Ahhh, the nostalgia of it all.

We all know what a “Skittle” is, no matter how strange the name is.  We all know what Nike is, even if we don’t know how to pronounce it correctly.  Is it Nike or Nike-eee?

Ineens had ik een inzichtelijk moment: het A-team waar ik vroeger nooit naar keek omdat het gewoonweg een stom programma was, blijkt een trendsetter geweest te zijn. De keren dat ik het zag werd er altijd een auto verbouwd tot een soort monstertruck om daarmee de vijand te verslaan. Ergens is er een handige formatmaker geweest die heeft bedacht dat dit gegeven op zich al zo ongelooflijk leuk is dat je daar een heel programma over kan maken. Pimp my ride heet deze uitgeklede versie van het A-team. Nog handiger formatmakers hebben dit principe ook toegepast op mensen (toevalligerwijs 90% vrouw). Van een oud wrak maak je met een paar operaties, een likje verf en nieuwe bekleding een prachtig exemplaar.

Maar alle credits gaan dus naar Mister T. en zijn A-Team.

Altijd in voor een gebbetje.

Mister T heeft overigens pas sinds een paar jaar zijn bestemming gevonden. De T bleek voor Tell Sell te staan. Hij prijst nu op enthousiaste wijze bakblikken aan.

• How spoil your dog : Yes, I love lists, and yes, I think fur for dogs are ridiculous.

• Jacob or Edward: A twilight themed crop circle. What is wrong with the world?

I’m addicted to the TV show PIMP MY RIDE. I would love for those guys to get my beaten up old Subaru and turn it into a low ridin’ bitchin’ machine. But that’s never going to happen. Next best thing: use the Theme Park radio show to promote AUTOMOBILES. And what better way to start the program than with Kraftwerk’s AUTOBAHN. It’s a driving song that eliminates the human driver and instead presents a very cool interpretation of machines on the move.

Things heated up with The Beach Boys’ ode to teenage freedom –  FUN, FUN, FUN, and then it was time for the 1951 single often regarded as the first ever rock’n’roll record. Jackie Brenston’s ROCKET 88 celebrates the Oldsmobile 88. Metaphor lovers, however, will quickly cotton on that the real object of Jackie’s enthusiasm may not be a car.  

Living in a rural area, we couldn’t leave tractors out of the playlist, so here’s a song dedicated to all the farmers out there: Jason Aldean with BIG GREEN TRACTOR. 

Prince’s first big hit, LITTLE RED CORVETTE, takes automotive innuendo as far as it will go. A little trivia for you: Stevie Nicks got the idea for her 1983 song STAND BACK  from LITTLE RED CORVETTE. She heard Prince’s song in her car, wrote STAND BACK that night, and called Prince, who came into the studio and played keyboards.

It was time for two of the great blues singers:  Junior Parker likes to think that, as far as his relationship is concerned, he’s the DRIVING WHEEL;  the wonderful Memphis Minnie isn’t sure that sitting in the passenger seat is for her, however, in ME AND MY CHAUFFEUR BLUES.

Tracy Chapman sees the car as a means of escape from a dead-end life. But her ambition isn’t matched by a boyfriend who turns out to be just like her hard-drinking Dad. Being the smart girl she is, her advice is for him to take his FAST CAR and keep on drivin’. 

I couldn’t leave out the ever reliable bus as a mode of transport and the Hollies filled the slot nicely with their 1966 hit, BUS STOP. And another 60’s gem we had to play was the Beatles with BABY YOU CAN DRIVE MY CAR.  

Time then for the bearded ones: ZZ Top reckon that SHE LOVES MY AUTOMOBILE. Well, of course. Two more excellent songs followed. Firstly, The Modern Lovers track ROADRUNNER, a song that has been good to Theme Park as it was also used on the show dedicated to RADIO. And then it was the Primus track JERRY WAS A RACE CAR DRIVER.  A show on automobiles, however, would not be complete without Chuck Berry who sang one of the great auto songs: MAYBELLENE. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame included three of Chuck Berry’s songs (Johnny B Goode, Maybellene and Rock and Roll Music), in the list of 500 songs that shaped Rock and Roll.

The lovely Quentin, who hosts Q’s Jazz & Blues on BayFM, called in with a request: MOTORVATIN’ MAMA from The Rhythm Kings. Some very sexy symbolism running riot there Q!  I paired it with Mic Conway’s National Junk Band singing WHO GAVE YOU A LICENCE TO DRIVE ME CRAZY?  A great cabaret act and it was terrific to see them at this year’s Blues Festival.

A change of pace when Chris Spedding and the Vibrations praised the art of MOTOR BIKIN’ and The Clash bragged about a BRAND NEW CADILLAC.  Check out The Clash performing live at the US Festival in ‘83.

A re-discovery for me was Yello. A Swiss group that has been recording since the 80’s, they have escaped my attention of late. But their song THE RACE was absolutely perfect for the show and had to be included. Check out this mad clip:

In CAR WHEELS ON A GRAVEL ROAD, the five-year-old Lucinda Williams is a reluctant passenger who watches “telephone poles, trees and wires fly by”, from the back seat, while her parents make plans in front. This song served as a quite beautiful breather because it was soon time to fasten our seatbelts in preparation for some serious rock ‘n’ roll: Deep Purple with HIGHWAY STAR,  Steppenwolf with BORN TO BE WILD and Jimi Hendrix with CROSSTOWN TRAFFIC. This triple play had all the BayFM volunteers and office staff up and dancing in the green room! Who knew work could be so much fun?

I was happy to include a couple of listener requests: RADAR LOVE from Golden Earring and Gary Numan’s most enduring hit, CARS. According to Numan, the song’s lyrics were inspired by an incident of road rage: “I was in traffic in London once and had a problem with some people in front. They tried to beat me up and get me out of the car. I locked the doors and eventually drove up on the pavement and got away from them. It’s kind of to do with that. It explains how you can feel safe inside a car in the modern world… When you’re in it, your whole mentality is different… It’s like your own little personal empire with four wheels on it”. Still going strong, here’s Gary back in the day:

Õhtust,

Nagu näha, siis kell kukub (hahaha..) ja minu ilus päev hakkab õhtasse jõudma… Ei saa just millegi üle kurta… kui siis ainult enda soengu… aga sellegi magan öösel veel lamedamaks.

Hommikut alustasin suure hurraaga, sest internetti olid jõudnud pildid Jackson Rathbone’ist. Päev paranes veelgi just hetk tagasi, sest ilmselgelt on neid pilte juurde tekkinud. Ma tean, et paljud bimbod vaatavad nüüd suu lahti ja silmad punnis, et “miks pagana pärast ta sed kutti siia topib kui on olemas Kellan Lutz ja ta musklid, mis on suuremad kui puudlid, kellega ta poseeriba ääää?!”. Noh, ilmselgelt ei ole mul nende musklite vastu ka midagi, aga põhipoindiks jääb ikkagi see, et Jackson Rathbone omab… mind… absoluutselt! Aga kuna mul on beibedest kahju, siis ma lisan selle muskli pildi ka teile siia vaatamiseks (postituse lõpus).

Nimelt tahaksin küsida, et kas ma olen ajast ja arust või lihtsalt jube loll…? Leidsin nimelt pildid mingist näkist, kellel on bikiinipüksikute asemel jalas… noh.. pigem … niidid ümber kannikate.  Ma ei kommenteeri parem…

What the Fu...n

Õnneks ei olnud need pidldi selleks ajaks netis ülal kui mina siit teleka ette lahkusin, muidu oleksid mustade räpparite poolt juhitud saated minu jaoks ära jäänud. Kõige pealt hakkas mind kummitama Pimp my Ride‘is osalenud tegelinski nimega Joe, kes sõitis vana Cadillac’i limoga. Auto tehti ilusaks ja bla-bla-tavaline… aga mis mind häirisid olid:
1) Xzibit on mölakas- poiss jooksis uksest välja teda kallistama ja X to the Z, Xzibit (jah, väga “tabav”, asstard) oli jõhker ilmselgelt iseenda mõistusega tülis oleva poisikese vastu. Ta lihtsalt lükkas ta murule pikali ja irvitas…;
2) Joe oli ilmselgelt… ma ei teagi… lõpus mul temast enam nii kahju ei olnud… hull gangsta-rap üritas lõpus olla ja mida iganes veel. Ja noh, tema kobakäpalikkus võrdus “Videviku” Bella omaga. Palju õnne!

Hello... Ghm.. I mean- YO, PIMP MY RIDE asstard!

 
Ja siis lõpuks: ma vaatasin soome kanalilt, Sub-ilt, filmi nimega “Cry-baby“, kus mängis olen liiga-vana-ega-tohiks-olla-nii-seksikas Johnny Depp. Ilmselgelt oli see film hea ja piinlik heaegselt niiet ma otsustasin seda vaadata teinekord, kui mu vanemaid ei ole läheduses. Kõige pealt tahan ära mainida, et seal oli tegelane nimega Hatchet-Face. Ta oli lihtsalt kusi-püksis-kui-naljakas!

Musi mopsu?

Ja teine hea asi seal filmis oli see, et ma leidsin endale lõpukleidi… Jap, vanaaegne aga stiilne. Vähemalt mina armastan seda. Ma ei leidnud sellest ühtegi pilti ega leidnud ka pilte täpselt sellise lõikega kleitidest, aga midagi taolist…

Vot, sihuke oligi minu päev- ja ma ei kritiseerinudki nii palju kui tavaliselt. Tundub, et J.R-i piltidest oli hommikul kasu…

The US Air Force has been busy modifying some amazing looking muscle cars in a bid to attract more young recruits to it’s ranks. You might not expect these Iraqi and Afghan fighting fly boys and girls to be under the bonnet of a car, technically they weren’t, MTV’s Pimp My Ride garage Galpin Auto Sports did most of the supping up.

These cars are now things of beauty, no matter if you are a fan of cars or aircraft you can’t help but gaze in wonder at these beastly machines.

The USAF chose to modify the Ford Mustang, Dodge Challengers and X-1 Mustang with stunning results.

The Challenger Vapor gets a biometric fingerprint entry system and vertically opening doors.

Painted for a glossy finish with anti-radar stealth paint!

The cockpit features a yoke for driver and passenger, and special night and thermal vision.

Single seater, ultra cool interior, can change to zero seater at the push of the ejector seat button!

Screens show the road ahead in night and thermal vision, steering is controlled with the joy stick

Ejector seat and optional helmet!! Not advisable to use the ejector seat as the parachute is unlikely to deploy in time!

We are sure these cars would give KITT a run for it’s money!

But we don’t think that we are likely to see them roll off the production line any time soon, or thundering around Iraq for that matter!
