een busy making brooches for the holiday season. I love the acorns, pumpkins, oak leaves and flowers, but nothing tops the pomegranate. I used felt, yarn and fabric covered buttons to make these lovely brooches; I added garnet beads to the felt pom to make the juicy seeds. I even have the oak leaf pattern available in my shop so that you can make your own oak leaf brooch, applique or embroidery. There’s even three adorable little acorns to go with your leaves.

I love the way a brooch can dress up a plain coat or dress. They can even make a t-shirt look dressy. Sometimes you can even put them on a bag to add a little visual interest. How beautiful would a handmade brooch be on that amazing little black dress?

My favorite brooch ingredients are wool, bamboo, acrylic novelty or cotton yarn, semi-precious stone beads, glass beads, eco felt, wool felt, covered buttons, vintage fabrics, vintage buttons, lace, ribbon, embroidery floss, metallic thread and love. I like to incorporate new things in my brooches, truly making them one of a kind. Though some of the felt ones can always be remade, I try to make each one special.

Simak tulisan berikut.

Apakah Anda sering lupa nomor PIN atau password komputer? Hal itu mungkin disebabkan karena perubahan usia dan biasanya hal tersebut dialami oleh seseorang yang sedang memasuki usia 30 tahun. Untuk menghindari kejadian tersebut dan membuat otak tetap bisa bekerja secara optimal meskipun usia bertambah ada beberapa cara sederhana yang bisa Anda lakukan.

1. Olahraga

Lakukanlah olahraga secara teratur karena bisa mencegah penurunan fungsi otak. Tim peneliti dari Beckman Institute dari University of Illinois, Amerika Serikat mereview beberapa penelitian tentang hubungan olahraga dengan fungsi otak. Mereka menemukan bahwa aerobik bisa meningkatkan kerja otak dan menambah volume jaringan pada otak. Selain aerobik, berjalan juga cukup efektif mengoptimalkan kerja otak.

Tips : Berjalanlah minimal 3 kali dalam satu minggu selama 50 menit. Tidak hanya membuat badan menjadi sehat, kerja otak Anda semakin maksimal.

2. Sikat gigi
Menurut tim dari “British psychiatrists and dentists”, kesehatan gigi dan mulut berhubungan langsung dengan kesehatan otak. Hal itu diketahui setelah tim melakukan survei pada orang berusia 20 hingga 59 tahun. Peneliti menemukan gingivitis dan penyakit gigi lain berefek buruk pada fungsi kognitif otak seseorang di kemudian hari.

Tips: Sikat gigi setiap Anda selesai makan. Jangan biarkan sisa makanan menempel di gigi karena bisa memicu lubang pada gigi.

3. Bermain puzzle
Anda bisa menemani anak Anda bermain puzzle atau bermain puzzle sendiri. Dengan menyusun puzzle Anda merangsang kemampuan kognitif otak. Percobaan yang dilakukan oleh tim peneliti dari University of Alabama yang melibatkan 3.000 lansia pria dan wanita, menunjukkan bahwa setelah bermain puzzle selama 60 hingga 75 menit otak bekerja lebih optimal.

Tips : Saat waktu senggang, bermainlah puzzle atau mengisi teka-teki silang. Kegiatan tersebut bisa memberikan tantangan pada otak Anda. Agar suasana seru, ajaklah pasangan, teman atau anak Anda.

4. Meditasi
Tidak hanya mengurangi stres dan tekanan pada pikiran, meditasi juga meningkatkan kerja lapisan korteks pada otak. Hal itu diketahui dari penelitian yang dilakukan tim dari Massachusetts General Hospital. Penelitian menunjukan seseorang yang sering bermeditasi kerja korteks lebih maksimal dibandingkan yang tidak bermeditasi.
Tips : Meditasi baiknya dilakukan 40 menit setiap hari, tetapi Anda bisa memulainya dengan bermeditasi selama 15 menit sebelum berangkat kerja. Duduk dengan posisi bersila, pejamkan mata, ambil nafas dalam-dalam dan buang secara perlahan.

5. Musik/Seni
Leonardo da Vinci berpikir dengan cara menyeimbangkan otak kiri (seni–>musik dll) dan otak kanan (pelajaran)… cara ini lebih memaksimal kan kinerja kedua otak sehingga semua menjadi seimbang dan tetap fokus.

6. Pola Makan Yang Baik
Berilah otakmu makanan yang mengandung anti oksidan dan omega 3 untuk memaksimalkan daya kerja saraf… sehingga otak mampu meningkatkan kinerjanya sampai kebatas maksimal.

7. Menggali Ingatan
Lihatlah kembali album foto lama atau buku tahunan sekolah anda. Otak anda adalah sebuah mesin ingatan, jadi biarkanlah ia bekerja supaya tidak berkarat. Ketika mendapat informasi yang baru, usahakan untuk membuat kaitan dengan informasi yang lama… Jadikanlah sesuatu yang telah kamu hafal sebagai tempat bergantung dan terus diulang tanpa harus melupakannya. Caranya adalah dengan mengingat informasi secara terus menerus sehingga kita membangun bank memori di otak kita…

8. Kreativitas
Kemampuan kreatif seringkali membuat kita dapat mengolah dan mengadaptasi solusi dari satu bidang ke bidang lainnya, dan dari satu pengalaman ke pengalaman yang lainnya… sehingga otak akan terus ter-asah kemampuannya, Mempelajari dan mengulang atau melatih pelajaran dan keahlian yang baru dapat mengubah sistem organisasi di dalam otak… Latihan berkesinambungan membuat daya kerja otak meningkat dibandingkan dengan mereka yang tidak pernah melatih otaknya…

One of the things I got done last week was to create a series of product using my photo, Forest Sun Rays in the Snow #32. A snow covered branch creates an arch, with ferns hanging from its moss covered bark, across a tree lined path toward the summit of this hill in the woods of Rainier Oregon. Beyond the forest the sky shines crystal blue in the early morning light.

Joan Rivers Got Her URLs wrong

The home shopping network recently banned host Lisa Robertson from saying the word ‘Orgasm,’ which is the name of a shade of blush from high-end cosmetics line NARS.

Then just over a week later, comedian and jewelry maven Joan Rivers is on the air telling viewers to go to a Web site where we found half-naked women. Here’s what happened Monday.

Rivers is not shy about promoting the jewelry she does for QVC, even wearing it to red-carpet events.

Rivers, who has been a QVC vendor for almost 20 years, was on the network talking about an enormous fabric flower pin that’s part of her jewelry line. As we have said, our motto is go big or go home, so we loved it. It was $29.50.

Rivers said she wore the huge flower on Sunday when she attended the star-studded premiere of the musical “Dreamgirls” in Harlem.

“Last night I went to this huge opening,” Rivers said on QVC. “That’s (the flower pin) what I’m wearing.”

Rivers told viewers to go to a Web site, “Look it up, Dreamgirls dot something,” to see photos of her at the opening. Well, we went to Dreamgirls.com, and there were no shots of Rivers.

Instead, we saw five very attractive bare-breasted women beckoning those over 18 to enter the site. We take it that Joan gave us the wrong URL.

But we did find several Web sites that had shots of Rivers at “Dreamgirls,” and she was in fact sporting her flower, in silver.

On “The Celebrity Apprentice,” Rivers often wore her QVC jewelry. Maybe that gave her the edge that helped her win.

Thanksgiving is a time to be thankful for the blessings that we have.  Even if you don’t have much, its still worth being thankful for. This is one of my favorite quotes for Thanksgiving:

This means that if you just eat turkey, your not really taking the message of thanksgiving. It is a time of prayer and thanks and you should take it very seriously. If there’s one thing that you do on thanksgiving, and if nothing else. No matter what religon you are, sit down and pray to God and be thankful.
