It’s just two little words on the Yahoo! front page: ping pong. Add a hyphen and ping-pong would still be wrong. Capitalize the two Ps and Ping-Pong would still be wrong:

Why? Because Ping-Pong is a registered trademark; table tennis is the sport. It’s not the first time the Yahoo! editors have gotten it wrong.

It’s always such a great feeling to flop around in bed for a few extra hours. I was starving this morning, so I had a giant omelet, one bowl of cereal, a plate of eggs, potatoes, bacon, two cups of iced tea today. I actually think I should stop eating less, because both days I stuffed myself to a point where I wasn’t that hungry for dinner. We played ping pong later, and it was way competitive. I beat Kevin first game, and played Simon and Brandon. I hit Simon with the ball and gave him a red circle on his arm. Then before dinner, I played Hassan and I totally won, because he kept hitting it into the net. It was cute when the guys were cheering me on and booing Hassan. He takes ping pong games much too seriously. 6 or 7 points into the game though, I accidentally stepped on the ball and crushed it. Hassan told me, “You need to calm down.” Then we went to dinner and had some chow mein and fried rice and vegetables and took some chicken off Kevin’s plate. We came back to play Big 2, Slapjack, Kent, and Drug Dealer. Bonnie is such a great partner for Kent. Half the time, we didn’t even need signals because we looked at each other and nodded. Awesome stuff. I was cop a number of times for Drug Dealer, and on more than a couple of occasions, I called out the drug dealer within a few seconds of the start of the game. Then I took a shower at 10 or so, because we actually have to follow the quiet hours now. I moved the poster to in front of our door, so I could easily refer to it. Those stupid games that involve slapping hurt like a motherfather. I need to work on my 6-7-page essay soon and get it checked by some peer tutor tomorrow night.

What was once a lowly game that people thought of only as a leisure activity,, dvd, dvd, in the basement, dvd, is now one of the major events in the world of sports. Thanks to the hordes of aficionados for table tennis,, dvd, the indoor sport has become more popular than ever attracting millions of players and spectators. It may be surprising, but table tennis has become a great game in its own right and more people are being able to witness its, dvd, excitement, dvd, through table tennis DVDs.

The notable popularity of table tennis stems from the sports’ easy game and its very affordable equipment. True that it is practically just a game where in a ball, dvd, is being bounced from one, dvd, side of the court to another. But, it is also quite game of complicated moves,, dvd, of exciting turns, jumps and maneuvers that are incomparable, dvd, to other sports. Simply hitting the ball is not enough in table tennis. Professional players make each hit as artistically as possible. Watching, dvd, good table tennis players is like seeing professional performers in a unique kind of performing arts. Table,, dvd, dvd, tennis combines the excitement of racquet sports and the flair or finesse of dance, dvd, and gymnastics. And this is something that can be magnificently captured on, dvd, DVDs.

Learning table, dvd, tennis is also now quite easy with the help of table tennis, dvd, DVDs. Not all people can afford to hire a professional trainer, and most people would think that table tennis is too easy a game to hire a trainer. But if you really want to have an edge over your friends when the ping pong game is set up, it really pays to be armed with moves that most people cannot even imagine. This is something that a table tennis DVD can give you. Affordable lessons that are as convenient, dvd, as the game of table tennis itself.

And of course there are DVDs of great table tennis lessons that can, dvd, bring out the professional ping pong player in you.
Hi friends! Since I no longer have a job where I have to worry about the public dissemination of mys

Hi friends!

Since I no longer have a job where I have to worry about the public dissemination of myself (beyond the norm), I’m back.
Man. This is a little awkward. It’s like when you run into someone you haven’t seen in a few years, and you’re not quite sure how much to talk about.
So I’ll just pretend that we’re all caught up and tell you about what’s going on right now. It’s easier on both of us this way.

Last night after work, Joe and I went to the rec center to practice our ping pong. Okay, so we also worked out, but that wasn’t really the point of the visit.
One of his co-workers is having a ping pong tournament at his house in a few weeks. The guy told Joe that the wives don’t usually play. But, since I’m not a wife, I guess that makes me exempt. But that also means that I have to practice (haven’t you seen a movie where someone is the only girl playing? pssh, she’d better be able to hold her own).

Let me be clear about the level of competition I am expecting: This is the same friend that gave Joe half a deer that he shot with a crossbow, and the two of them processed it together in the garage at his home in Flint. His 14-year-old daughter stood around and complained about being bored while the two men sawed their way through a deer head.
These people don’t mess around.

On the plus side, someone gifted Joe a ping pong table yesterday, so we don’t have to play at the rec center. On the minus side, we don’t have an inside place to put it so, for the time being, we’ll be playing in the driveway. Most likely by flashlight, except on the weekends.

Also, this evening I will be customizing my paddle. I will post photos. And I am trying to plan my outfit. I welcome any suggestions.

7 – Cinco Coisas Sem as Quais Não Posso Viver

Achar que todo mundo segue minha linha de raciocínio;

Quando faço uma brincadeira eu não demostro que estou fazendo humor (isso confunde as pessoas);

Abandonar problemas que não acho que valham a pena meu esforço;

cueca azul, calça jeans preta e camisa listrada

12 – Cantores / Bandas Favoritas

It was our first time at the venue which played host to a ping pong event with the band providing the headlining entertainment.

The party was in celebration of the Fred Perry brand and Friendly Fires kicking off their winter NYLON tour Thursday night in Texas with The Xx. We had the pleasure of interviewing the band before their set for an upcoming feature on the site and were right up front for the band’s stellar 7-song set!

The boys were great both onstage and in the hotseat for our interview, adding fuel to the flames of our anticipation for the tour and the upcoming album which you can learn more about in our exclusive interview coming soon! Stay tuned!

More pictures from the show can be seen HERE, and full tour dates can be found on the band’s MySpace page.
Friday night: Sitting outside sharing a huge strawberry banana shaved ice, two orders of popcorn chi

Friday night: Sitting outside sharing a huge strawberry banana shaved ice, two orders of popcorn chicken, and a coconut brick toast at 10 pm in 60-degree weather was fun. Susan called me before Kevin, Shang and I went to dinner and said he’d come at 8. That was okay, because we went to dinner at 5:45 or so, and I knew I’d be hungry again by 8. He ended up picking us up at the service road at 9:30, and I already had lots of reservation going. But I changed my mind, telling myself I wouldn’t do homework on a Friday night anyway, and went. Susan, Kevin, Simon and I squished ourselves in the back and we got to Guppy’s in less than 10 minutes. We were seated at a table furthest away from the entrance, so we felt neglected. Susan and I went and asserted ourselves, telling the waiter we were ready to order. He came after and Shang and Rudy kept asking each other, “What did you want?” The waiter was pretty pissed. We ordered the popcorn chicken mild, but it was spicy anyway. We left at 11:30 or so and went to Rudy’s apartment, and he let me drive. I didn’t have my license and am not insured and haven’t driven in a while, so I was pretty surprised he let me, even though it was 1 or so in the morning. We saw cops at an intersection, and it didn’t help that Rudy had the stupid stereo turned on 243840329 decibels. VDC was pretty, but I’m thinking about Ana, Tasha, and Bonnie, and I’m happy I chose CV, but I’m sad Kevin, Shang, Heather and Jenny won’t be there with us. Rudy came back with us because he didn’t want to be alone, and I heard it took a long time to kick him out. Shang was walking him back while I was probably snoring away until 2:30. It took an hour to get ready for bed, and I blow dried my hair for the first time that night. I slept without an alarm for the first time since I’ve come to Irvine that night too. So many firsts makes me happy. Which reminds me, Shang got sad his Orangesicle still didn’t have white in it when he got to the stick so he threw it to the ground. Kevin was laughing so hard. It was adorable and made me laugh harder.

Saturday: I meant to work on my 6-page essay, rewrite my chem notes, and study for the bio quiz on Monday yesterday, but that didn’t work out so well, even though the rough draft is due Tuesday and I have a midterm for chem Thursday. Brunch was delicious, as usual. I love the omelets. We played Werewolf and Susan got really into it when she was accused. Jenny, Simon and I kept pointing fingers at everyone. Simon is a good manipulator, but I kind of caught on at the end. The last round I played, I was the Hunter, and when I died I realized it was Simon. It took me a while, because Lilly was narrating and I knew she spoke to people somewhere to the left of me, and Bonnie was already lynched. I owned the game by taking Simon out and his lover, which makes two people. I felt very accomplished as I finally went to take a shower. We draped ourselves over Susan and my bed and gossiped and then played Taboo. Heather found out they might have overheard some things, so she texted someone else in the other room and asked about it. It was just the rack part, and Kevin made it all better by telling her it was Shang after. Kevin is so adorable, especially when he makes those faces at me. Then we went to sleep. Oh, and Jason and Luis stopped by for about an hour after visiting Lianne at VDC. They left at 5:50 or so to catch some game at Hacienta Heights.

Sunday: Bio quiz the next day, 6-page RA the day after, GC tabling for Take the Stairs Day the day after that, and chem midterm the day after that. It’s okay, because the brunch was good. Kevin beat me 4 or 5 times in a row at air hockey even though I kind of cheated at the beginning when I threw it in when he was distracted, and then I also got an extra point. I really don’t get why I always lose to Kevin at everything. It’s depressing. But it’s funny to see him get agitated when I come close to beating him at ping pong.

Parliament was prorogued at 4.30 p.m. today. It was a quiet end end to a tumultuous session. There

Parliament was prorogued at 4.30 p.m. today. It was a quiet end end to a tumultuous session. There was no last minute ‘ping pong’ between the chambers. The absence of such ‘ping pong’ reflected the influence rather than the weakness of the Lords. On recent measures – some of the big Bills going through the House – the Government has been busy accepting amendments, recognising that they improve the Bill. Few of the amendments are the result of Government defeats. The House proceeds largely by way of a constructive discourse with ministers. Each session, anything between 1,000 and 4,000 amendments may be secured in the House. Occasionally, it becomes necessary to force a vote and the Government may be defeated. As Meg Russell’s research has shown, about 40 per cent of defeats are accepted by Government; somewhat counter-intuitively, it is the more important defeats than tend to be accepted.

The House thus makes a difference and it does so on limited resources. The demand is greatest on opposition front benchers. Many are basically full time but have no salary and extremely limited research support. The demands are also great on those with expertise in a particular area who are willing to devote long hours in Grand Committee and on Report to pursuing amendments. Some Bills are in Committee for several days. We may sit late to get through all the amendments. The important aspect of such sittings is quality rather than quantity in terms of who is present. It is very rare to force divisions during committee stage. It is the discourse between ministers and peers who know what they are talking about that is important. I have achieved some modest changes, but none has involved forcing or threatening a vote. They entailed moving amendments in committee, letting ministers (who initially resisted them) reflect on them, and then having meetings with the ministers to discuss what they may accept or assurances they are prepared to put on record. It is not earth-shattering stuff, but it all adds up to an improvement in legislation.

The most important work of the Lords, certainly in overall terms in affecting legislation, is that which you do not hear about. The major defeat, or the failure to defeat the Government on a contentious issue, attracts the headlines, but what is newsworthy is what is exceptional, or – as with Prime Minister’s Question Time – what is televisual. Detailed scrutiny in an essentially non-adversarial environment does not qualify.

It was the dream the old man had before. The one with the river and the floating that felt so damn good. Beneath his body was a rubber inner tube and his arms and legs hung lazily over the sides of it. On the side of the tube was a cartoon of a smiling big-headed rat twirling a lasso. “The rat must be my guardian angel”, the old man thought. “Could be worse”. Then below his wet backside, in the clear cool water, he spotted, only for a second, amongst the river rocks and fallen branches, a white rosary swaying with the current.

The old man grew up Catholic, and even though he hadn’t stepped inside any kind of church for 50 years, the rosary still snagged him as something precious. It needed a pair of hands. He tried to stand up but his feet couldn’t touch the bottom, and the river was moving too fast for him to swim against backwards. He held his breath deep and stuck his head under the water to get one last blink at it, glowing and yessing at him like a blessed hula. But then the river curved around a bloated bluff of Willow trees, and beyond them was a parking lot full of cars.

The old man climbed up the river bank behind the VFW Hall and tied his raft to the bumper of a white limo. He saw his reflection in the windows, soaking wet and older than he felt, but still with a full head of dark hair to brush back. By the time he crossed the hot parking lot, the steam coming off of him made him look freshly pressed. He felt that the ping pong ball was somewhere inside the building. He could smell hot dogs and buttered popcorn and knew what was going on in there. Bingo. Even though he only loved the Mother Mary part of Catholic, the forgiving, blue-green part of it, he remembered what the nuns had taught him, about the mystery of numbers.

The old man entered the hall. Even with the ceiling clumped full of air conditioners blasting full force, the thickness of the cigarette smoke nearly gagged him. He coughed until his eyes teared up, so when the jittery skittery ping pong ball rolled right in front of him, it looked like he was crying with joy. The players did not look up from their cards because this was the the final game, the jackpot. But the caller did glance over, just in time to see him place the ball in his mouth and sprint out. The old man worked in the Senior Center for going on 6 years. He hadn’t lost a ping pong ball yet. He was happy there was something he was good at. And each time that beautiful, half-blind Sandra Kolenda flicked one out the window, it was another chance to show off his fantastic way with recovery.
