วิธีการเลือก อาหารสุนัข และ แมว

           1.  ผ่านการรับรองแล้วจากกรมปศุสัตว์
ขณะนี้อาหารสุนัขทุกประเภทจะต้องผ่านการขึ้นทะเบียนจากกรมปศุสัตว์
ไม่ว่าจะเป็นอาหารสุนัขสำเร็จรูปจากต่างประเทศหรือผลิตในไทยเองก็ตาม
จะต้องดูที่ฉลากข้างกระป๋อง หรือข้างถุงว่ามีทะเบียนอาหารสัตว์ถูกต้องหรือไม่เป็นสำคัญ
เพราะหากไม่มีเลขทะเบียน แสดงว่าอาหารนั้นไม่ได้ผ่านการตรวจสอบจากกรมปศุสัตว์
ซึ่งอาจไม่ได้คุณภาพตามที่ได้ระบุไว้ที่ข้างถุง
ดังนั้น ขอให้ตรวจสอบฉลากว่ามีทะเบียนอาหารสัตว์ในฉลากเป็นสำคัญ
ถ้าไม่เป็นเลขทะเบียนก็ไม่ควรซื้อนะครับ
นอกจากนั้นแล้ว สำหรับอาหารต่างประเทศนั้นยังมีอีก 1 ตัวช่วย
คือให้ดูการรับรองของหน่วยงานระหว่างประเทศด้านอาหารสุนัข
นั้นคือ “การรับรองจาก AAFCO” ซึ่งถ้ามีข้อนี้ยิ่งสมบูรณ์แบบมากๆ

            2. หลีกเลี่ยงอาหารสำเร็จรูปชนิดแบ่งขายที่ดูไม่น่าไว้วางใจ
อาหารแบ่งขายมักจะไม่มีฉลาก ทำให้การตรวจสอบที่มาที่ไปได้ลำบาก
การเก็บรักษาก็ไม่ค่อยเรียบร้อย

            3. คำนึงถึงแหล่งโปรตีนที่ใช้ทำอาหาร
โปรตีนที่ใช้ในการทำอาหารสัตว์มักมาจากหลายแหล่ง
โดยเฉพาะโปรตีนที่เหลือจากผลิตภัณฑ์เนื้อสัตว์อื่นๆ เช่น เศษเนื้อไก่ หมู วัว เป็นต้น
โปรตีนจากเศษเนื้อย่อมสู้โปรตีนที่มาจากเนื้อสัตว์ชนิดเดียวโดยตรงไม่ได้

            4.  คำนึงคาร์โบไฮเดรตที่ใช้ทำอาหาร
นอกจากโปรตีนแล้ว สารอาหารจำพวกคาร์โบไฮเดรต ซึ่งได้แก่ แป้งกับน้ำตาลนั้น
ก็มีส่วนทำให้เกิดปัญหาแพ้อาหารไม่แพ้โปรตีนเหมือนกัน โดยเฉพาะในกลุ่มแป้ง
ซึ่งผู้ผลิตมักนิยมใช้ข้าวโพดเป็นสำคัญ ซึ่งเจ้าข้าวโพดนี้เองมักก่อให้เกิดปัญหาแพ้อาหารได้สูง
จึงควรหลีกเลี่ยงโดยเลือกชนิดที่มีข้าวเป็นองค์ประกอบจะดีกว่านะครับ เพราะสุนัขไม่ค่อยแพ้

             5.  ใช้สารกันบูดชนิดใด? ในการถนอมอาหาร
อาหารสุนัขสำเร็จรูปทุกชนิดจะต้องใส่สารถนอมอาหาร หรือสารกันบูดในอาหารด้วยกันทั้งนั้น
เพื่อถนอมอาหาร หรือเรียกง่ายๆ ใส่เพื่อให้อาหารเก็บได้นาน ซึ่งเจ้าสารกันบูดนี้
ปัจจุบันมีทั้งชนิดที่สังเคราะห์จากสารเคมี และชนิดที่ได้จากธรรมชาติ เช่น วิตามินซี และ อี
ซึ่งปัจจุบันกระแสธรรมชาติกำลังมาแรง ถ้าท่านใดนิยมกระแสธรรมชาติก็เลือกอาหารให้สุนัขได้ตามที่ชอบๆ นะครับ

            6. เช็ควันหมดอายุเพื่อประกันความสด
วันหมดอายุ หรือ Expired Date ที่มักย่อว่า EXP. Date นั้นแปลว่า ถ้าหลังจากวันนี้ไปแล้ว
แสดงว่าใช้ไม่ได้ เช่น ยาหมดอายุก็ใช้ไม่ได้แล้ว แสดงว่าเสื่อมคุณภาพ ไม่ควรใช้ในการรักษา
เช่นเดียวกับอาหารสัตว์ที่หมดอายุฉันใดก็ฉันนั้น
แต่มีอีกประเภทที่เขียนไว้ข้างถุงว่า Best before คำนี้หมายถึงว่า
“อาหารนี้จะดีที่สุดถ้าให้หมากินก่อนวันที่….” นั้นแปลว่า
ถ้าหลังจากวันที่…ไป ความดีของอาหารนี้ก็จะค่อยๆ ลดลงไปเรื่อยๆ
ซึ่งอย่างดีก็ ถ้าเจอเจ้าวันที่ Best Before…. ก็อย่าไปซื้อเลย เพราะคุณค่าอาหารลดลงไปแล้วครับ

            7.  กลิ่นอาหาร เมื่อท่านเปิดถุงอาหารแล้วพบกลิ่นเหม็นหืนโชยเข้าจมูก
ก็ขอให้รีบนำไปคืนหรือทิ้งไป เพราะแสดงว่าอาหารเริ่มเสื่อมสภาพแล้ว

            8.  เปลี่ยนอาหารตัวใหม่ต้องใจเย็นๆ
เมื่อท่านตัดสินใจจะเปลี่ยนอาหารยี่ห้อใหม่ หรือยี่ห้อเดิมแต่สูตรใหม่ก็ตาม
ไม่แนะนำให้เปลี่ยนแบบผลีผลามด้วยการให้กินอาหารตัวใหม่เพียงอย่างเดียวล้วนๆ
เพราะจะมีผลต่อระบบย่อยอาหารของสุนัขได้ ขอแนะนำให้ใช้กลยุทธ์ค่อยเป็นค่อยไป
โดยค่อยๆ เพิ่มอาหารตัวใหม่ ทีแรกประมาณหนึ่งในสามส่วน บวกกับอาหารตัวเก่า สองในสามส่วน
ให้กินประมาณ 1 อาทิตย์ หลังจากนั้นก็ค่อยๆ เพิ่มอาหารตัวใหม่พร้อมทั้งลดอาหารตัวเก่าไปเรื่อยๆ
จนกระทั่งสามารถถอดอาหารตัวเก่าออกจากเมนูประจำวันได้ในที่สุด

            9.  เฝ้าระวังอุจจาระหมาเมื่อเปลี่ยนอาหารใหม่
นอกจากจะต้องค่อยๆ เปลี่ยนอาหารตัวใหม่ตามข้อ 8 แล้ว สิ่งหนึ่งที่ต้องเฝ้าติดตามคือ
อุจจาระของสุนัขที่ออกมาด้วย ซึ่งควรอยู่ในสภาพไม่แข็งไม่เหลวจนเกินไป

เรียกง่ายๆ ว่าถ่ายเป็นปกติ ไม่ท้องผูกหรือท้องเสียนั่นเอง

          10.  ติดตามดูน้ำหนักตัวและขนตลอดเวลา
อาหารใหม่ที่ให้สุนัขตัวโปรดนั้น ถึงแม้จะรสชาติดี หมาชอบกิน แต่พบว่า กินแล้วน้ำหนักลด หรือขนร่วง
ก็ไม่ควรให้กิน เพราะแสดงว่าคุณภาพไม่ดี แนะนำให้เปลี่ยนอาหารนะครับ

          11.  หลีกเลี่ยงอาหารที่พิสดารเหนือการคาดเดา
หากท่านเกิดไปเจออาหารพิสดาร สูตรแปลกๆ ที่ไม่เคยพบเคยเห็น แล้วเกิดปิ๊งขึ้นมาว่า
น่าจะลองให้หมากินเพื่อรสชาติแปลกใหม่ ถ้าหากไม่มีรายงานทางการแพทย์ยืนยันว่าไม่มีผลเสียต่อสุขภาพสัตว์ประการใด
ก็ขออนุญาตอย่าลองเลยนะครับ ซึ่งหากสงสัย หรือไม่มั่นใจก็ขอให้ปรึกษาสัตวแพทย์ก่อนบริโภค

          12.  ที่เก็บอาหารก็ต้องทำให้ดี
ถึงแม้ท่านจะซื้ออาหารดีอย่างไร แพงระยับอย่างไร แต่ท่านนำมาตากแดดตากลม
รับรองอาหารนั้นจะเสียเร็วกว่าที่คิดไว้มาก ซึ่งที่ตามมาก็คือ อาหารจะเหม็นหืนและหมาจะไม่ยอมกิน
ดังนั้นจึงควรมีภาชนะที่ใส่อาหารที่มีฝาปิดอย่างดีเพื่อกันชื้น ที่สำคัญต้องเก็บในที่แห้งไม่ตากแดด

          13.  ต้องมีน้ำให้กินอย่างสม่ำเสมอ
อย่าลืมนะครับว่า นอกจากอาหารแล้ว เจ้าตูบตัวโปรดก็ยังต้องการน้ำดื่มตลอดเวลา ขาดไม่ได้
คุณภาพน้ำดื่มก็ควรสะอาด ชนิดที่คนก็สามารถกินได้นะครับ อย่างน้อยก็ควรเป็นน้ำประปา
ไม่ใช่น้ำจากบ่อบัว อ่างปลา หรือน้ำคลอง

          14.  ควรซื้อจากร้านขายอาหารสัตว์ที่น่าเชื่อถือ
สำคัญมากไม่แพ้อาหารสัตว์ก็คือ แหล่งจำหน่ายอาหารสัตว์ที่จำเป็นต้องเป็นร้ายที่น่าเชื่อถือ
คนขายวางใจได้ ไม่ใช่ประเภทขาจรตีหัวเข้าบ้าน แวะเวียนมาขายไม่เป็นหลักเป็นแหล่ง
เพราะหากเกิดปัญหาขึ้น ไม่รู้จะไปเอาเรื่องเอาราวกับใคร

This weekend we had a picnic with Ron and Lainey out at Pinnacle. It was so fun. We went to Walmart first, because we needed camping chairs. Then we got McDonalds and headed out. It was pretty busy, but we found a picnic table right by the playground. We ate and then Piper played on the playground for a while and then the grownups played a little frisbee. Here are a few of the pictures.

Maybe casinos aren’t as bad as some people seem to think. Two reports published within the past few years have documented that casinos actually have a positive impact on property values and businesses. (Both studies cited below with links to the original reports.)

In one study, Casino Revenues and Retail Property Values: The Detroit Case, by Douglas Walker, a professor of economics at Charleston College in South Carolina, data indicates that casinos increase commercial property values within a 5-mile radius. The report says that casinos have the ability to draw in additional consumers who will then patronize restaurants, stores and other businesses in the area. True, today’s casinos often have their own shopping and dining on site, but this report seems to imply that casinos offer a kind of halo effect that spreads to businesses not located on the casino’s property. An interesting approach on “share the wealth.”

The other report I came across The Impact of Casino Gambling on Housing Markets: A Hedonic Approach by Michael Wenz from the Department of Economics at Northeastern Illinois University focused on the impact of casinos on residential property values. This study found a correlation between casinos and a subsequent increase of about 2% in local property values. The paper also notes that the increase in property values depends on the population density of the area, with less dense areas realizing an increase while more densely populated areas (i.e. downtown urban areas) actually see a decrease in property values.

These reports shed an interesting perspective on two controversial casino issues in St. Louis: The President Casino in downtown St. Louis and the proposed casino in the Spanish Lake area. The President Casino, which may be in danger of losing its license, is located in an urban area. One might argue that a casino would be better for the Missouri economy if it were located in a less densely populated area, such as Spanish Lake, a possible location where the population density is about half that of St. Louis (2900 people per sq mi versus 5800 people per sq mi). It provides a possible rationalization to relocate the President Casino up-river (or maybe just its license). Still the residents of the North County area may take little solace in the knowledge that local businesses may prosper and local housing markets may improve if a casino is built in their area, regardless of who builds and operates it.

So NIMBY notwithstanding, maybe a casino is a good thing for the Missouri economy, depending on where it is.

I have got a flash videoclip that was ok but wanted to add music before publishing it on the company video channel on YouTube.  I had not the master file from the camera but only the edited flash .flv file. I tried to load the flash file into Pinnacle12 for adding the music but it doesn’t accept .flv files as input so googling [a lot] around I found an interesting article Flash Video Editing Made Simple where I got the link to RichFLV Video Editor that appears to be a free AdobeAir plug-in that installs automatically AdobeAir also. Within RichFLV I should have been able to edit my .flv file importing an mp3 music file and merging them together, but I hadn’t handy any mp3 file suitable for the job, since I always use the free music files available inside Pinnacle12.

Actually I could have probably been able to create an audio mp3 file by Pinnacle (more or less as the music background of an “ampty “video file) and import it into RichFLV, but I didn’t think of it and so I started looking for a different solution to my problem.

Inside the same Flash Video Editing Made Simple web page I found the link to download Super Video Converter and started a few trials to convert my .flv file into a format accepted as input by Pinnacle12 (avi, mpg, mov). I got error converting .flv into .mov or .mpg while Super worked fine converting .flv into .avi. Nonetheless I got stuck because Pinnacle12 could play the resulting .avi file in the preview window but not load in the editing (album) area.

Long story short I managed to have a .avi file that Pinnacle12 was able to load and edit with following setting for Super:

Then I have been able to add music inside Pinnacle12 and create a .flv file as output

The Missouri Gaming Commission,  and the Illinois Gaming Board reported today that combined casino revenues in the St Louis area were up about 10% in October versus October last year.  But that’s not the whole story. In Missouri, Ameristar was up 7% Harrah’s was up 9% and Lumiere was up 41%, while the Illinois casinos Argosy and Casino Queen were down 8% and 3% respectively. (To be fair, the President Casino in MO was also down 9%.) The point still, however, is that the Midwest casinos are still doing well in this economy relative to their neighbors across the Mississippi River.

I still think the disparity has to do with the lifting of the $500 per 2 hours loss limit in MO and the smoking ban in IL. As noted previously, independent studies have shown that the IL smoking ban had a significant impact on all casinos in IL, relative to nearby casinos in neighboring states without smoking bans.  Further underscoring this fact, The Indiana Gaming Commission reported that revenue rose 4.3 percent to $234.3 million compared to the same month last year.  With the recent passage of the smoking ban in St. Louis, and the fact that it excludes casinos, it looks like Misourri and Indiana casinos are going to continue enjoying this competitive advantage.

Still, competitive issues aside, it’s reassuring to see that the gaming industry is picking up even in the current economy. Dennis M. Farrell Jr., a gaming analyst for Wells Fargo Securities, said revenue growth reflected not only stronger demand for gambling, but also better economic conditions in the Midwest compared to other parts of the country. It certainly bodes well for Pinacle’s new casino slated to open in April 2010, and for a new casino in North County (if it should ever come to pass; but that’s another story).

Increased casino revenues may bode well for the rest of the economy too.  Farrell also reported that unemployment in both Indiana and Missouri is slightly lower than the national average and Missouri’s foreclosure rate is below the U.S. level.

Si tratta di due patch diverse, uno per la serie 2.6.30 del kernel, uno per la 2.6.31. Basta compilare il modulo per la propria versione con i seguenti passi veloci

1. Decomprimere l’archivio
2. Entrare nella cartella decompressa

Ovviamente install necessita di permessi da superutente. Per Fedora è necessario avere il pacchetto “kernel-devel” e l’essenziale per la compilazione di codice.

Chiamando kaffeine il menu per il DVB-T è facile, veloce e completo. Il segnale è addirittura migliore di quando la chiavetta gira su windows (in base al numero di canali trovati), anche se comunque è debole.

1. Mount Dandenong

* Approx an hour’s drive from Melbourne City

Take a leisurely drive up Mount Dandenong, wind your windows down, as you breathe in the fresh alpine air and take in the beautiful landscape of forests and trees. Make sure you stop by Olinda along the way and visit one of the many tea rooms for Devonshire Tea and Scones (with freshly whipped cream and sweet home-made strawberry jam).  Miss Marples Tea Room is highly recommended for their scones and  high tea. There is also a traditional British charm to this little cottage. Their moorish home made cottage pie and welsh rarebit (mature english cheddar, eggs, guinness mustard & spices) sandwich fingers are to die for. Note: They don’t take reservations so make sure you get in early at 11am to get a table. It can get quite packed and you have to expect a bit of a wait on weekends (but its certainly worth the wait). After a satisfying meal, make your way to the Mount Dandenong Observatory – 633 metres above sea-level and the highest point in the surrounding ranges. Here you can get breathtaking views of Melbourne and surrounds. It’s also v romantic. All in, a fantastic & cruisey way to spend your Sunday.

2. Warburton

* Approx 1.5 hours drive from Melbourne City

This is another beautiful scenic drive up a mountainous area. Take a leisurely walk along the wonderfully scenic Warburton River Walk which is accessible from the Swing Bridge, just off Main Street. The beautiful Yarra River transforms from rapid pools to meandering waterholes along the length of the walk that is probably about 5 kilometres. You can spot the lyre birds & cockatoos along the way.  End the relaxing stroll with a stop by Three Sugars Cafe for some hot chocolate, coffee & cake or some of the best pies in the region.

3. Bright

* Approx 3 hours drive from Melbourne City

The best time to go is during Spring/Autumn to see the Oak & Maple trees change colour. A “must do” is the Springtime in Bright Festival – October 24 to November 3. Make sure you take your bicycles with you so you can best appreciate the sights and sounds of Bright as you breeze through the Great Alpine Road. If you’re feeling peckish after the ride, there are many fine quality restaurants in the area such as the Poplars Restaurant , a French Bistro drawing on local fresh produce and wine or the Edelweiss Bakery for a simple treat of freshly baked sweet & savoury pastries.

4. Grampians

* Approx 3.5 hours drive from Melbourne City

You will need a long weekend for this drive but the Grampians is the place to go to soak up the best of Nature. Here you can scale the Pinnacle or check out McKenzies Falls. Word of warning, you might need to have a certain level of physical endurance to complete the Pinnacle walk which is a 5 km trail overlooking Grampians National Park. The steep and winding steps are a challenge but the lookout at the end of the trail is certainly worth the hike offering breathtaking views of the rolling hills and mountainous valleys. Drive along Lake Wartook Road then take a 1 hr return walk to McKenzies Falls – the largest waterfall in the Grampians. The sound of the water splashing down into the lake creates a peaceful harmony with the leafy trees in the backdrop.

5. Cape Schanck

* Approx 1.5 hours drive from Melbourne City

Perhaps the one walk you shouldn’t miss out on is called “The Cape” within the Mornington Peninsula National Park trail offering spectacular views of the Bass Strait. Make sure you take this long scenic walking trail – a reconstructed staircase and boardwalk which has been built right out of the beach and rock platform level. At the end of the trail, you can visit the Cape Schanck Lighthouse which has served shipping since 1859. I always feel refreshed after the walk, and am enthralled by how you can find a piece of serenity just 90 min from Melbourne city.
