Hello all, yes the international break is over and here is the long awaited fantasy football update to get you back in the mood.

Jamie Forsyth put another award in his treasure trove after he saw his team pick up Team of the Week. The excellent form has been credited to a breakthrough training regime by a Mr Bobby Beard. With a wooden leg and a parrot on his shoulder B.Beard cut an impressive figure as he hosted a press conference to talk about his new technique “Avast me hearties! I’ve caaarrrm cross seven seas to whip these sorry lubbers into shape. When I saw these bilge rats I nearly lost me sea legs such a sorry sight were they. I had them up the riggin’, sweeping the deck and manning the sails to get these scurvies to be proper pirates men.� Mr Beard’s influence has extended to the training ground which has seen a radical overhaul with a full model ship being built in the club’s swimming pool, complete with a plank for any mutinous members of the squad. Under pressure from the press about the efficacy of such techniques manager Jamie Forsyth said despite the unusual methods the proof had been in the results; “He has come highly recommended by Arsene Wenger and if it’s good enough for Arrrrrsenal then it’s good enough for us� he countered.

A team bonding exercise backfired this week as Owen Williams saw his promising start to the season take a turn for the worst. With the pantomime season upon us Williams thought it would make a great treat for the lads to go and see a good old panto starring the Chuckle Brothers. Clearly the experience did not have the desired effect with his team picking up their first Flunk of the Week. “How on earth could I have predicted what happened.� Asked an exasperated manager “I knew something was up the minute the game kicked off and traditional one twos became five sixes.� One fan described a typical interchange between Team Bacon players, “I heard Evra shout to Petrov when he was in possession “Man on!� to which Petrov responded “oh no there isn’t� and by the time the Evra had said “Oh yes there is� we had lost the ball. I must have seen this happen at least a dozen times.� Didier Drogba was quick to defend his team mates’ actions “What a lot of people don’t realise is that most of the players have never seen anything like that before. That show really moved us and really meant a lot to some of the players. There was this one scene where one of the Chuckle Brothers, Barry I think it was, no Paul, no Barry, anyway he said “to me� then Paul, or was it Barry, he said “to you� then Barry said “to me� and it just carried on like that. It was like poetry, ‘to me, to you’ is basically the underlining philosophy of football.�

If you’re marooned on a desert island, you want to have a Professor who can build useful items out of coconuts. [LostMachine] is one of those guys, and he’s currently building a land-loving pirate ship. The wacky vehicle will use the giant wheel above to propel the vessel while the captain sits comfortably in the lofty crow’s nest. A crack-pot concept? Not really, he plans to take this to Burning Man where it will be a fairly useful build compared to the folks who have really gone off the deep end.

The story here is the build quality. Take some time to watch his videos which we’ve embedded after the break. In the first, he details his method for creating a precisely level building surface on top of his uneven driveway. This is accomplished by welding supports in a circle that are level compared to the center point. He goes on to share his liquid-cooling system for cutting the pipe supports with a custom-built jig and an old windshield washer water system pump from an RV (second video). The final video shows the construction of the wheel which came in with 2000 welds and about 250-300 hours of construction time.

If you hadn’t guessed, [LostMachine] is a structural engineer. Unfortunately he was laid-off this spring which has put a damper in his building schedule. We hope that with a quality project like this in his portfolio a new job is just around the corner for him.

A clarification.
 
I wasn’t describing people who play computer games as “utter sad twats” in the blog last week – it was aimed at those who queued at midnight when the new ‘Call of Duty’ game was released in the shops.
 
Couldn’t you wait until lunchtime the next day? Or the next week? Or wait to get it as a Christmas present? Did you really have to have it there and then, race home and get playing at 1am in the morning?
 
Well it appears that many people did. I personally find that extremely sad – just my opinion.

So how was Dr Who for you then?
 
I think the ‘Waters of Mars’ special on Sunday was one of the best since the show returned in 2005. They could, perhaps, have trimmed it down to 50 minutes to make it tighter but that would be the only tiny criticism.
 
I was sat on my sofa transfixed by a thrilling plot and cracking dialogue, not knowing how they’d get to the end and set up David Tennant’s final two shows.
 
It was a real shock to the system when The Doctor turned into a megalomaniac which certainly didn’t sit comfortably with how he’d operated before. I thought Adelaide was going to shoot him. Then it twisted back again as she killed herself and Tennant produced a couple of minutes of inspired acting, facing the Ood, fearing his song was going to end there and then.
 
I like Dr Who because it combines drama, comedy, emotion, underlying subtexts, plot arcs which stretch over different series, subtle nods to the past and there is that quintessentially English feel about it.
 
You can probably tell that I’m quite looking forward to the Christmas and New Year episodes…

Thanks to everyone for their feedback about the blog last week especially with regard to ‘The Sperminator’ aka the shag-happy Telford internet love-rat. Most people agreed with my assertion that while he was obviously a reckless twat, the gullible women involved also lacked responsibility.
 
The Princess Diana joke raised an eyebrow or two (come on, it’s 12 years since she died, let’s get over it, none of us knew her personally…) and this was my favourite message: “Bad taste about Diana – but I nearly pissed myself laughing.”

It’s with this article on their blog that the crew of the most famous tracker in the world announced that their torrent tracking service will no longer be available to the masses..

It’s probably the end of an era.. but as sad by the crew: “It’s the end of an era, but the era is no longer up2date. We have put a server in a museum already, and now the tracking can be put there as well.”

They decided to move to a more reliable standard based on a system of handling tracking (DHT+PEX) and distributions of torrent files (Magnet Links) which is less vulnerable to downtime and outages.
