Well, with Pirates and Ninjas, the first person to come to mind is the infamous Captain Blackbeard, later renamed Captain Hook, after an unfortunate accident. Time was not on my side, so no ninjas are visibly present in here… I wanted to have Hook imagining Peter as a ninja, which would explain his craftiness. Enjoy. ~Greg

Well just to clear things up for today the Medieval theme is to start on Wednesday…so don’t start drawing that one until tomorrow.  Anywho here’s my one for the topic Pirates vs. Ninjas…and I just have to say…it’s ninjas, hands down. There’s really nothing to argue against that.  So my idea was that the pirate captain’s parrot will betray him to become a ninja…and you can’t beat something that can fly around and through knifes at you…you just can’t. At THE WAVE, we are about to kick off a series called Pirates vs. Ninjas.  It’s going to be all about choosing your friends, fighting battles together, picking your friendship battles, ect.  When I think back on the history of my friendships I think about those friends who have really sculpted me into the person that I am… the person God continues to shape me into.

Preston taught me how to fight for the underdogs and introduced me to Christ.  John showed me to laugh at life and myself.  Erick taught me to what it is to really be a nice guy (I wish his coolness had rubbed off).  Jay taught me how to talk my way into or out of just about any situation in life.  Rusty pointed out how to be giving and to love Christ more deeply and authentically.  Micah helped me to develop discipline, and to understand discipleship.  Pete helped me to see how to be motivated and content at the same time.  Currently I have a whole new crew who are helping to show me wisdom, consistency, compassion.  My best friend:  Summer Joy, constantly teaches me about love, peace, trust, hope, and home.

*by the way, I’ve left out dozens of people, friends who have shaped my life and whom I love deeply.

Pirate or Ninja??? What say you…

Hello and welcome to my Blog. I am new at this and will undoubtedly stumble and fall along the way, but assure you that I will pick myself up, dust my self off and try again, probably to the chagrin to whom ever is reading this.

Today, I thought that I would bore you with a quick review of my three favorite websites.

Why!?! , you may be asking yourself, would I even consider doing this. Why would I try to add another voice to the chime of voices echoing out across this vast web, adding my option where is doesn’t belong and where no-one asked for it. Well, to be blunt, “Opinions are like assholes, everyone has one and they generally all stink.” So, it is time to stink up the web with another opinion, MINE!!! So here it goes….

This is possible one of the best resources for streaming online movies and the most popular TV shows off of the world wide web. I have been using it faithfully for all of my visual entertainment requirements for 9 months. Ninjavideo offers a wide variety of current movies, popular TV Show in all genres, an excellent selection of documentaries (touching just about any topic you could possible want to watch) and offer and streaming radiostation which in a pinch plays a decent assortment of current music.

I have turned many people on to Ninjavideo, and after the initial confusion of installing the software, codex, running the java applet and agreeing to the security warning, it works almost flawlessly though at times when my computer starts to bog down a bit (I have a cheap ass dell latitude p4), the sound may not mesh with the video, or the video may get choppy, but for the most part, this is a top notch free entertainment site.

Facebook, the most common social networking site out there. Originally designed strictly for college students, it has become a phenomenon across the globe, used (and sometimes abused by) millions of people. Facebook is a straight forward, easy to use, and although is has few graphics or decoration, it is still one of the top social networking sites. I personally use this site WAY too much for my own good, dividing my time between chatting with all of the long lost friends and relatives I have recently re-discovered, playing some of the mindless games and posting photos for everyone to view.

My third and final review will be about a site that has become the mainstay for selling or buying (anything from Christmas decorations to hookers).

Set up as  more of a public service than a company out for profit, Craigslist is the number one site for selling your old crap and buying new crap, looking for a job, or reading about the online squabbles and an mundane problems of it’s most  loyal users.  I have used this site for just about every reason listed above, and to be honest, I could never sell anything (and I was selling good crap), never got a call back when looking for a job, and was only mildly stimulated but the whining of some hooker who’s ad is flagged for the umpteenth time because she persistently uses the word “blowjob” or “ass” and the prude who has nothing better to do but play god, flagging her ads.  for weeks I would scroll through the free listings, hunting for some treasure that I would uncover, only to find that the item had already be picked up 5 minutes after it had been posted by a professional Craiglist pirate, sailing around the city I his beat up truck, and a mobile phone with a data plan. Graphically one of the most boring and unimaginative site I know of, but still loved by millions, Craigslist is a site that will probably stand the test of time.

Yar, it be talk like a pirate day, ye scurvy dog! In honor of the day, here be a most excellent presentation weighing the merits of pirates versus their most deadly enemies: ninjas.

Theme of the week: Pirate-related stories

Wherever you turn these days, tales of pirates hits you in the face.
There are three main categories of pirate-related stories.

The first and least serious is the internet meme of who would win a fight of pirates versus ninjas. Pirates of the 1600s Caribbean and ninjas of roughly the same time period as they are seen in movies and video games. Yes yes, we all know it’s a stupid, unproductive and useless debate. But there it is, and we are going to talk about it.

First a summary why it’s such a hopeless area to debate:
For one thing, it would never happen. Ninjas are supposed to live in isolated mountain villages in inland Japan. They are not nobility like the samurais, and more importantly, not wealthy. They are land-based assassins. Pirates are supposed to live in the Caribbean, but could be found all over the world, including Indonesia, and could of course sail to Japan.
But in the 1600s, the country was closed to foreigners. This meant it would be little coastal ship traffic to plunder, and the coastal areas were dominated by warlords in well-fortified castles, and plenty of armed and trained samurais. This is also the areas where any wealth would be stored. Pirates are known to have fought on land to take port towns along the Spanish Main, but only when these were weakly defended, or the pirates had overwhelming numbers (usually in alliance with European military forces), but in essence they were sea-based raiders fighting for profit. They were unlikely to have ever met, but if they did, none of them would be likely to stand and fight.
Another thing is that the dice seems heavily loaded in favour of the ninjas.
We have much better historical sources on pirates than on ninjas. That in turn, means that movie/videogame portrayals of pirates often are more realistic than ninjas, who in the movies (especially mangas) tend to have superhuman speed, magical powers and so on. In this debate, fictional characters from Naruto, Ninja Scrolls, Tenchu and so on are pitted like historical characters like John Hawkins, Black Bart Roberts and Le Ollonais. If you compare the fictional ninjas to the likes of Captain Barbossa and the curse of the Black Pearl, or LeChuck of Monkey Island, the picture would be very different. Of course, in a fight like that few of the participants would actually be able to die.

But if we look past all that boring “logical disclaimer” stuff, who would I bet on?
If you haven`t guessed it already, pirates. In an open battle (which would never happen), the pirates would pwn the ninjas. For one thing, the pirates would operate better as a team, while the ninjas would fight as individuals or smaller teams. The ninjas would probably be better in single melee, but they would lack longer range firepower. Many ninja supporters claim the ninjas had better steel than the pirates. This is not true; the ninjas would have to settle for cheaper blades than the samurai. Pirate supporters like to point to the pirate’s guns. The ship guns would give the pirates a huge advantage the ninjas could never mach, but would a battle between ninjas and pirates take place within range of these guns? If we assume that it wouldn’t, the pirates still had muskets. Muskets were slow to load, and very inaccurate.
The pirates would not have the discipline and structure to fire in volleys, like a regular army, but that would mean little when fighting ninjas, since they would be unlikely to bunch up into a big target. What many people don’t realize is that the musket could be loaded either with one single large bullet, which would give it range (but not accuracy) or for closer ranges could be loaded with several small shots and used as a shotgun. This, along with grenades would give the pirates a decisive advantage at short range. If the ninjas managed to ambush the pirates, the picture would be different. In that case I think it would largely come down to numbers

Having said that I love both ninjas and pirates (in fiction)
Lately it seems like the pirates are winning the fight in the media 3-1, but of course if the ninjas were in the media they would be doing it wrong, right?

I’m a couple days late with this one, but like they say…  better late than Somali Pirate.  As if this world needed more things to ‘worry’ about, enter the modern pirates of  the Indian Ocean.  Not that there really should be anything to worry about as this little band of merry men is but a never ending wipe that just won’t get the last bit of shit from your hole.  But, the media has decided to pick up on more and more pirate-related news coverage (no doubt trying to play off of the success of those crappy Disney movies based on the crappy Disney ride that used to be cool when I was 6).

Most recently,  a United States vessel was taken captive.  And if there’s one thing the Somali’s should know…  don’t fuck with a U.S. ship on a slow news day.  Are you trying to get killed?!?!?  But, they did just that.  I don’t want to recount the entire story because you’ve either read it, or you can google it.  What I found interesting was how it was resolved.  Well, how the media portrayed it was a swift attack to save the U.S. ship’s Captain, Richard Phillips.  Ultimately, the United State’s worst enemy in this whole hostage situation was diplomacy and political correctness.  I mean, if we wanted to, we could drop a shit bomb on that little life boat they were floating along in.  But we’re too sensitive, and ‘what if we’re wrong’ about all of these pirates, and they’re really just cool dudes who are misunderstood?  So instead, this is how I imagine the ‘hostage crisis’ went down:

It’s night time.  Day four of the hostage situation.  Big, overwhelming Navel ship vs. shitty lifeboat with no fuel, drifting aimlessly off the coast of  Africa.  A Naval officer throws a rock into the water on the other side of the life boat, which causes all four pirates to turn quickly and react to the noise.  Bang, bang, bang, three pirates down.  Fourth one shits his pants and sticks his hands up.  ”Crisis” averted.  

Why did that take close to a week to resolve?  That only makes the United States look ridiculous, yet again.  Perhaps we could use some Ninjas out there.

This is the greatest umbrella we’ve ever seen. Fact. The katana-shaped brollie will have you stealthing past water droplets and chopping through wet clothes while looking like a dangerous weather assasin. Just don’t forget and bring it to the airport. Or the sea…

Over the weekend, around 29 pirate vessels attempted to hijack the American-operated M/S Nautica while it passed through the waters between Yemen and Somalia. The luxury liner was carrying about 650 passengers and 400 crew members and was headed to port in my old stomping grounds of Fremantle, Western Australia.

Someone other than the Recording Industry is being attacked by pirates? Shiver me timbers, I didn’t realize that this still occurred.

It’s September 19, and that’s International Talk Like A Pirate Day.  My elder niece is a devoted voluptuary of Johnny Depp, dating back to the day she first laid wide blue eyes on Captain Jack Sparrow.  Ergo, it’s my sworn avuncular duty (read my contract) to rally to her side and promote the cause of pirate appreciation.

UPDATE: No one should ever need ask where I stand on the question of Pirate vs. Ninja supremacy.  Sure, a ninja might win a fight with a pirate through superior dexterity with some weapons that you’d never see a pirate using, but there’s still no question as to which of the two I’d rather be.  Yarrrrr!!

Pirates vs. Ninjas Dodgeball is an Xbox Live Arcade game being released in September. I’d just like to ask one question. Isn’t this joke dead yet? Releasing this game is like beating the powdered, decaying dirt mixed remains of a dead horse that’s been beat continuously for the past five years. The target demographic must be owners of Chuck Norris T-shirts.

Yeah, I have been a bit busy with life and homework and assignments so I haven’t posted anything full on lately. I still am quite busy actually so that’s why I am making this short.

 Anyway, who here wants to LOL. I knew there was this pirates vs ninjas craze on the Internet but I had no idea about this guy and he has been around for ages! (Shows how much I know about YouTube). God, this is probably old news, but whatever, everyone has to see this guy.

Seriously though, do check out the website or if you can’t be bothered just watch them on YouTube. I could not stop laughing at some of his random comments. Dragorgoyle. Sea serpents and Asps. Poison Ice bolts with Botulism, HAHAHAHAHAHA absolutely hilarious, *throws shuriken at you* and so on the randomness about Ninjas go. Here is one of the videos (out of many) for you to LOL about.

Well folks, we apologize for our disappearance but after 5 long months of negotiations, we are finally able to fill you in. It is no secret that our viral video compilation has been quite popular with over 1 million views to date and featured on FOX News, CNN headline news as well as National Public Radio (NPR) but it was truly an unexpected honor when the Cakke Team was approached by CBS programming.

Unfortunately we can not give you all the details but we can say that Les Moonves and his CBS team have been very generous with their offer to buy the rights to the song. CBS will be adding a weekly, user submitted viral video show to their fall line up and they have chosen our song “The Internet Stars are Viral” as the theme song for the show.
