This is my last day on the farm. We leave for Nelson tomorrow, where I will stay for two nights bef

This is my last day on the farm. We leave for Nelson tomorrow, where I will stay for two nights before saying goodbye to Erin for a while and heading north to Auckland. Between now and December 14 I will be in Nelson, Wellington, Auckland and Sydney before flying to Tasmania for nine days and flying back to Sydney for a night, and then off to Fiji where I will reunite with Erin for the last four days of this two and a half month adventure.

Already I can feel the quickened pace, so different from this quiet morning, sitting at the kitchen table with oatmeal and tea, listening to the tui birds and looking out the window at the tall grass that engulfs the woodshed and the punga and Tasmanian blackwood trees that rise up behind it. Rose, Gary and the kids are still asleep. Erin is upstairs packing. At this time tomorrow we will already be gone.

Perceptions of time change based on experiences. When Erin and I first arrived in New Zealand we though a month to travel would be enough to see what we wanted. In reality we found ourselves cutting out several places from our list because we wanted our pace to be more of a breeze than a whirlwind. I don’t regret it at all; even though we didn’t make it to Kaikoura, Dunedin, Milford Sound or the Fjordlands, we got to experience more of the towns and cities we did stay in. When we arrived in Karamea, population 650, we thought these 3 1/2 weeks would move at a turtle’s pace. The isolation on Rose and Gary’s farm, 20 km away from Market Cross (Karamea’s main streets), contrasts from the easy access to busses, cafes and people we were used to. Even in Punakaiki, which felt like a private retreat, we could walk to the bus stop in thirty minutes. But I forgot how fast turtles can swim, and now here I am on the last day and I wonder how it came to an end so quickly. I know now that by the time I get to Fiji it will feel as though I simply blinked my eyes and arrived.

Having a home to live in these past 3 1/2 weeks has been invaluable. More than learning about starting an orchard, permaculture design, rock wall construction, companion planting and soil health, I have been to a birthday party and poetry night; met friends and neighbors at the potluck and outdoor movie night Rose and Gary hosted; hiked part of the Heaphy and Wangapeka tracks, and through the bush with Gary, Curnin and Erin; walked along the beach and gotten caught in waves, found sea glass and pua shells; and I have become part of a family, if only for a short while.

My travels thus far have taught me many things, but perhaps the most important thing I’ve learned about myself is how much I value knowing a place. I guess it makes sense that constant movement would make me appreciate being settled, but I didn’t expect it. As I come to the final leg of my journey, I am feeling ready to be home for Christmas. I will not rush through these next three weeks–on the contrary, I will soak them in and stretch in each moment–but when the time comes to board the plane back to the States, I will take my last breath of summer in New Zealand and look forward to my first breath of Winter in Vermont.

When you go to London, the best time is during Summer, because there’s no snow and you will no

When you go to London, the best time is during Summer, because there’s no snow and you will not feel chilly. When you land at Heathrow Airport you will have access to hire a taxi from there with a driver and he will get you to the very best places in London.

You can also take a taxi and go to other places that you wish to visit further afield. London is the most exciting city in the world, thanks to its 1000 years old history.

It has many gardens & museums for you to see and the first thing to do is visit Big Ben’s Tower and of course the London Eye by the Thames river which in itself has a really beautiful landscape. It is the longest river in England and measures 415 miles in length.

You can just relax and see the sights or go shopping and buy souvenirs from some of the best shops in the UK. Again London is the best city in the world both for shopping and for amazing tourist sites.

It has some of the nicest parks and gardens e.g. Hyde Park, Green Park, Battersea Park, Greenwich Park, Hampstead Park, Holland Park and many more.

Then you also have many museums to choose from, for example the Guards, Fashion & Textile, Bank of England, Museum of Garden History and plenty of others.

The concept of London is that it’s made up of tiny villages which complete the whole. Well illustrated by the famous North of London suburb of Hampstead Garden Suburbs.

Oxford Circus & Piccadilly Circus are great places to visit & they draw millions of visitors every single year. Piccadilly Circus is a rather an untidy place with lots of traffic. Otherwise it’s definitely the central hub of London’s West End and a very popular meeting place.

One more place where you must go to is The Palace of Westminster which is the crux of English Government (the Houses of Parliament which is it’s other title) is directly accountable to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Many Diplomats & Celebrities live in the St. John’s Wood area which is located on top of the West End and is a most beautiful residential area north of Baker Street.

To have a good look at the City of London try a Duck Tour on the river and the road since you will be conveyed in an amphibious vehicle ! and it is easily the best way to travel by road and also to cruise along the river Thames as well.

London is also famous for it’s very historic buildings such as Whitehall, Admiralty Arch, Queen Victoria Memorial, Wellington Arch, Bunhill Fields, Convent Garden and Duke of York’s Column and many more.

For shopping try Carnaby Street, Charing Cross Road, Knightsbridge, Mayfair, Kensington and Oxford Street.

Now you have your answer as to Why Visit London !

I awoke to a bright autumn morning. Through the window of my new lodgings, I saw the woods and I had to get out there. I had arrived back in Dartington, my home for the next few weeks. I was stressed and disorientated, and I had to get out there.

Safe in the quiet woods, I drew breath. I spent the entire morning and most of the afternoon pottering about and walking – getting lost, wading through mud and enormous puddles up to the top of my wellies, slithering down narrow muddy tracks down to the river, listening intently for the sounds of birds, water, distant traffic and humans – all the time breathing in fresh clean air and absorbing the strength and presence of the trees. There was a group of tall upright conifers amongst this mixed woodland: not normally my favourite sort of tree, but these were majestic, graceful and vigorous. I gathered fallen leaves and arranged them in a circle around a particularly handsome-looking specimen.

It was a glorious sunny day. The stress drained away, and I felt happy and completely at home. I began to indulge in little fantasies, and as I wandered around, I began to have interesting little conversations with trees, plants, stumps and stones. I thought I would return the next day and sing songs, recite poetry, make a recording… but I didn’t, because there has been torrential rain here, ever since. That’s my excuse, anyway!

I am leading a sort of double life at the moment: between home in North Devon, where I like to think I am getting life, family and work into some sort of coherent balance (no chance!) – and my Arts & Ecology course at Dartington in South Devon, which runs on three-week intensive modules.

Both of the two regions of Devon are lovely places to live, with very different landscapes. Next time I will try to post some pictures for comparison – but I can’t seem to put my hands on any at the moment! ow that I have made myself at home here again, I am ready to start Module 2. Here is what I made when I arrived at Dartington for the first module, a couple of months ago… I called it ‘Tree Rings at Dartington – a Grounding Exercise’.

Interestingly, Module 1 was very much focused on ‘place’… and I have learned that the prefix ‘eco’ (as in ‘eco-nomy’ and ‘eco-logy’) comes from the Greek word for ‘home’. How did I get through life without knowing this before?

I’m sitting in a little coffeeshop in the neighborhood I used to live in. I come up here to work sometimes: it’s one of the few places in DC where there is both decent wireless and a good croissant. So I don’t mind particularly the long-ish trip through Georgetown and up Wisconsin Ave. There used to be a good cafe within walking distance of my apartment, but it closed a few months ago, much to the collective dismay of all the people like me who used to go there and spend $2 on tea so we could sit in a bustly, not-too-loud, sufficiently “indie” place for six hours and stare at our laptops.

I don’t like coming to this shop as much as I used to. After about 9 in the morning it fills up with people doing the normal coffeeshop things, by which I mean they are talking to friends, buying muffins for their kids that are too young still for school, reading, participating in some kind of physics study group, etc. Only one other person here is on a laptop, and I find I resent this a little. The vibe here is not what I want it to be. It reminds me that I’m taking up a whole three-person table with my computer, that if I’m laughing it’s because I read a funny xkcd comic, and that I have headphones in. Why come to this public place and sit alone?

I mean, I have reasons. Counter-intuitively, the noise helps me focus. Like I said, the croissants are pretty good. And if I spend too much time trying to write/work in my apartment, I will eventually be tempted to take a nap, which is impossible here.

I could extend this post into some kind of comment on modernity (aided by the literal name of the shop, up there in the title– that’s not fiction) and it wouldn’t surprise you one bit, I bet. But I’m not sure I have anything more to add right now than that I’m sitting in a place full of people but I’m very much isolated even as I send out a blogpost that you are reading, and that doesn’t seem like a very modern complaint at all. So, you know. Carry on.

India is a country where mythology can be found in every nook and cranny. There are innumerable religious places here and each of these religious places, temples, have a story to tell of their own. All of them hold some or the other kind of mythological importance. One such famous temple is the Pushkar temple.

This temple is located in the holy city of Pushkar in Rajasthan. Pushkar is a place which is known to have more than 400 temples there. However, the most famous temple here is the Pushkar temple which is dedicated to Lord Brahma. In fact, this is the only temple in the entire country which is dedicated to Lord Brahma.

Pushkar is a city which is otherwise drowned in the drudgery of sleepiness, becomes extremely active when the Pushkar camel fair is around. One of the main reasons why the Pushkar temple is considered extremely sacred is because it is believed that Lord Brahma had performed an important religious rite (yagna) here in the ancient times. The Brahma Temple is located in the Pushkar Valley and is one of the most important pilgrim centres for most of the Hindus.

The entire Pushkar temple, better known as the Brahma temple among the locals is done up in white marble. The walls of the temple are decorated with silver coins and the pilgrims are greeted by a silver turtle which is placed on the floor of the temple entrance. Although there are a large number of temples at this place, yet Pushkar is particularly famous for its five most famous temples.

One of the most famous legend states that the flower, which Lord Brahma is seen holding fell at this place, which led to the coming up of Pushkar temple, which is apparently exclusively dedicated to him. This temple, always manages to stand out of the crowd of other temples which are situated in this area. One of the main reasons for it can be attributed to the large amount of carvings and exquisite embellishments done at this temple. This temple is located on the banks of Lake Pushkar. Pushkar temple was first built during the 14th century on an elevated platform.

The marble image of the silver turtle on the entrance of the temple is one of its chief distinguishing features from all the other temples. The floor of the entire temple is adorned with black and white tiles in a checkered pattern.

Pushkar is a city which becomes extremely vibrant during the times of festivals and other religious occasions. The local population of Pushkar is staunch devotees of Lord Brahma and all the festivals, big or small are celebrated with lot of zest and excitement here. The holy lake of Pushkar temple is considered sacred by the devotees who visit this place. Thus, no visit to this place is complete without taking a dip in the holy waters of Pushkar Lake. While on a trip to Rajasthan, Pushkar temple figures out on one of the must visit places for every tourist.

When you are planning a holiday in one of the most famous and popular places in the world, you will immediately consider the Island of Ibiza. The type of nightlife that makes Ibiza particularly popular amongst jet setters all over the world and young people who like to enjoy the best can be qualified in a single word: “Hedonistic”.

Whether you decide to venture in this idyllic party Island at any time of the year or you are looking to arrive at the biggest and most important celebrations, there will always be a wonderful time and endless parties at Ibiza.

Naturally, each one of the clubs that you can find at the island of Ibiza strives to have its own air and personality so that the partygoers that venture in its nightlife find themselves in a surreal world of pleasure and celebration. One of the things that you will benefit to know when taking on the party celebrations that are available at Ibiza are the custom-tailored celebrations that change each night according to the DJ’s and the promoters that organize them.

No two parties are ever the same at Ibiza, and since the promoter of one club can basically be the booker of a specific DJ, you can switch Ibiza clubs and still enjoy a wonderful night wherever you end up. And if you are in a clubbing mood, you can always venture at any of the music bars of Ibiza, which somehow resemble an 80’s disco lounge. A great place to listen to music, chat to friends and dance, without the hectic atmosphere of the most popular Ibiza nightclubs.

One of Ibiza’s most famous nightclubs is the “Privilege”, located half way between Ibiza and San Antonio you will not be able to miss it because it has a big bulky construction, and eye catching lights it definitely is the place to visit when you are in Ibiza, though probably not the only nightclub that you will visit.

One of the most sought after nightclubs in Ibiza is El Divino, due to the very select audience; with a 1500 tourist capacity it is a wonderful place to spend the night in celebration while enjoying the warm sea breeze. El Divino is located right on the harbour making it accessible by boat!

There is no way anyone could depict the incredibly wonderful ambiance that Ibiza has to offer in terms of nightclubs, the only thing to do is to recommend everyone to visit and stay, at the very least, two weeks and experience the sensational ambiance for themselves.

Darayonan is a Cuyonon word that means a place to stay. The lodge is situated in a residential part of Coron town, strategically located along the National Highway. Darayonan Lodge aims to provide its guests with clean and comfortable rooms, good food and quality service. Aside from that, one has options on choosing the rooms to stay at: in the native bamboo, sawali and banig set-up or in the modern concrete and tile two-story building.

Darayonan Lodge is an accredited tourist inn by the Philippine Department of Tourism. It has played host to a number of VIP’s and celebrities, the most notable of whom are Philippine President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and then U.S. Ambassador Francis Ricciardone. In fact, Congressman Baham Mitra was amongst the guests of the lodge during our stay from October 21-24, 2009.

What is striking about this place aside from its homey atmosphere is the owner’s love for the arts. It definitely is a reflection of the owner’s strive in achieving perfection in everything. From the lodge’s interior decorations to the food being served for each meal. He personally goes over every little details right before being served or handed over to the guests. We stayed here for 4 days and 3 nights; and it was a part of the overwhelming positive experiences that I have had during my stay in Coron, Palawan.

The place is clean all the time! They see to it that the rooms and private comfort rooms get cleaned everyday during your stay. They also make sure that the entire lodge is spic and span all throughout the day. I have never seen any litter at all in my entire stay.

The facilities in this lodge pass the normal standards of travellers: hot and cold shower, all air-conditioned rooms, centralized water system. It’s like you never left home at all. I’ve had a comfortable stay at this lodge.

It’s also probably the only lodge that includes breakfast for two along with the daily room charge. And what’s more, drinking water and coffee is unlimited, no extra charge. I should say that staying at Darayonan is really a value for your money.

Darayonan Lodge has facilities and amenities as follows:

Cafe which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner

Choice of fan or air-conditioned rooms

Queen-sized beds, single-sized beds plus two extra beds if necessary

21″ colored television sets on all their rooms

Refrigerator/Mini Bar

Closets

Writing desk cum dresser with mirror

Bigger rooms with higher ceiling

Bigger bathroom

Veranda

Darayonan Lodge not only offers bed and breakfast for travelers. In fact, they also arrange tours/trips for you so you’d have a grand vacation for you or your family or even with your friends. They have enticing packages which includes everything (accommodations/rooms, land transfers from and to Busuanga, food and tours) and you won’t have to worry a single thing about your vacation. Every single detail of your vacation will be taken cared of at rates that would suit your budget. Group or barkada packages also await travelers who wish to visit Coron in groups or together with their families and loved ones. Darayonan Lodge does not have a website at this point in time. Have you ever tried to figure out how to get to that Secret Place? Wow. Not many reach it. Abraham and Moses did, and surely Enoch did as well. It is a place without fear, where failure is no option. It is complete victory.

It is a peaceful place, our special hiding place, a sanctuary. It surrounds us with safety, protection, security, and empowerment. It allows us to be built up, strengthened, edified, refreshed, rejuvenated, encouraged, satisfied, and rested.

There we never thirst or hunger, and our every need is fulfilled. This Secret Place is complete trust and fellowship in God. It is a place unlike anything the world can give us. Psalms 91:2 – I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.”

The October half term is a great time to make the most of the last few days of warmth and light before winter arrives at great pace. With it being the last break before the Christmas and all the chaos it brings, slow down the pace with a ‘green’ break. While this may sound daunting a more eco-friendly holiday can be achieved simply through considering where to holiday and what activities you’ll be doing while you’re there.

A quick browse on the Internet will reveal many ‘green’ options offering ‘holidays in harmony with nature’. This may all sound a little new age and with children in tow is probably simply not practical for many. And in some cases you may produce an even bigger carbon footprint just trying to reach your ‘green’ destination!

The first step in your environmentally friendly holiday is to choose where to visit. Instead of driving for miles or hopping on a plane look locally for your holiday – a smaller distance will instantly give you a smaller carbon footprint, immediately lessening your impact on the environment. And while you’re thinking about the environment you might also find there are other benefits too. If you decide to holiday closer to home you’ll have lower fuel and travel costs and probably less irritated children (and parents) without being bombarded with ‘are we there yet’?

If you want to be greener still, consider taking public transport. You may even find this is a quicker way to travel – and it doesn’t have to be dull either. Perhaps a magical ride aboard a steam train, where everyone can experience the power and smells of transport from a bygone era such as those that run throughout Yorkshire and the Moors.

Once you’ve arrived at your holiday destination, how can you continue the ‘green’ theme? In many places there are great activities that the whole family will enjoy such as cycling, walking and nature trails. These activities are not only great for reducing carbon emissions, but again have additional positives such as helping keep you fit, they’re free and you can enjoy the great outdoors.

A county of wide-open spaces, acres of countryside and beautiful parklands is Suffolk. Surrounded by nature’s greenery you’ll be inspired to leave the car behind and consider other ways of getting around. There are a number of car-free schemes in operation around the county including a service called Traveline where you can easily find out information about bus and train times and routes.

A particularly unique region is The Brecks, one of the great natural areas of Britain. Both strange and beautiful it is a landscape of tranquil forest, open heathland, agricultural land, and home to many unique or distinctive birds, plants and animals. Visitors to The Brecks are actively encouraged to respect the fragile environment and there are a number of schemes in place to help. Sustainable local transport such as the The Brecks Bus and The Flexibus are ‘ring and ride’ services that will take you from your door and get you out and about in the countryside.

Suffolk is definitely a great place to visit for an active, outdoor holiday with the family and to go with this you obviously need a family friendly place to stay. With a great location and an outstanding reputation, Bedford Lodge Hotel in Newmarket will offer a great place to rest at the end of a busy day exploring Suffolk. The hotel is blessed with friendly staff who will welcome you on your arrival and take care of your every need during your stay. With special half term offers for families, there has never been a better time to visit Suffolk for a holiday that won’t cost the earth.

It’s the time of year when I think often of family and loved ones, living and dead. One of the highlights of my October trip to Georgia was visiting my Grandmother Estelle’s grave for the first time. I did not know her well, had not seen her since I was 2 years old. I knew none of my blood father’s family. It was synchronicity when in 2007 my paternal aunts ended up in the insurance office of my maternal uncle and asked the question, “Are you related to….?”

It happened to be two weeks before Mom and I were scheduled to travel to Georgia. After 50 years apart, the question’s answer led them to me.

It turns out, my paternal grandparents are buried down the hill from my maternal grandparents in the same cemetery. I’ve been visiting the cemetery with my mother for years and never knew. These photographs are of the pine tree that grows high over their graves. My Aunt Annette told me that my grandfather loved pine trees. So do I. When I was a child, I would spend hours sweeping pine needles, the scaly bough of a branch curving to make just the right shape, a prairie-style home.

The thing about cemetery trees is that they are many times old growth trees, never to be cut. I like to think this pine is a guardian for my grandparents, its long roots extending deep underground, branches tall and proud (reminds me of another pine in New Mexico that I’m quite fond of, the Lawrence Tree).

There is more to the story — a letter, an obituary, a ring. Perhaps another post. This week I give thanks for all who live, and those who have come before.

Post Script: the day Mom and I met my aunt at the cemetery, we also visited the Gertrude Herbert Memorial Institute of Art in Augusta. That’s where my Canon G6 battery died; I had forgotten to charge the backup battery. These photos are all taken with the BlackBerry cell phone camera.

A factor that is driving the trend towards automating the sales department is the extent to which speed has become a strategic advantage in the selling process. Once, it was acceptable for salespeople to promise to get back to customers with answers to questions. Increasingly, those salespeople are finding that by the time they get back to their customers with the necessary information, the sales opportunity has evaporated. The ability to respond to customers quickly is crucial to success, and the tolerances are narrower than ever before.

Similarly, the ability to compress the sales order cycle is becoming an extremely significant factor in a competitive situation. Your customers, who are under the same competitive pressures as you, are placing more and more emphasis on increased cash flow and reduced inventories. Reducing your sales order cycle from four days to two can make an important and measurable difference, certainly enough of a difference to determine whether or not you get the order.
