Silverlink ft. Badness & Jammer – The Message is Love (Mumdance Remix) (zshare) Here is a

Silverlink ft. Badness & Jammer – The Message is Love (Mumdance Remix) (zshare)

Here is a story. Before the super successful Daggerin’ party (stand by for news about that), The Dirty Frenchman was afraid he did not have enough bangers to create madness on the floor. He had heard Plan B and Kortez and was jealous because they had ass breaking new songs and The Dirty Frenchman only had ass not as much breaking new songs. He searched far and wide like Harrison Ford looked for his family and his wife in movies:

And then he happened upon this track. This is what dj dreams are made of. This song is what they play in the insane asylum when it’s play time. If this doesn’t get the crowd moving then you are playing in front of quadriplegics. Fast/slow then fast/slow. It has everything. However, that doesn’t mean much to quadriplegics. The Dirty Frenchman was heard to say recently that he is a Mumdance fan. But then maybe that’s a reason not to love Mumdance.

Last Friday Annie Mac, who is a legend, played this tune on her show. I’d heard the original on a blog about a week earlier, and was surprised by that. It has been a while since I’ve heard anything new by Pendulum and I am pleased with the results.

Stay Too Long (Pendulum Remix) – Plan B

Now here’s a band which I think are very similar in style to Pendulum, but not in set up, Sub Focus.

Dirtee Cash (Sub Focus Remix) – Dizzee Rascal γ song

And finally, I bought this album when it was released and heard this on the radio recently.

Bleibt uns treu,

Der Peter

Disclaimer: I write for Thermal And A Quarter. But despite my own leanings, I cannot take seriously

Disclaimer: I write for Thermal And A Quarter. But despite my own leanings, I cannot take seriously any article on the Indian rock music scene that dwells in the era of imitative cover performances, or performances of so-called originals that are so totally “inspired” by popular covers that they are no different from them at all. That stuff is so ten years ago. Maybe twenty. Without any vintage value whatsoever.

The “fascinating article” (by Arjun S Ravi on MTV Iggy) that Cicatrix speaks of in Sepia Mutiny reads like ‘The Best of RSJ (1992-1999), with Notable Exceptions’. It’s all been documented before with elan and sincerity by Amit Saigal. Today, it’s dated. Because it casually ignores a significant slice of Indian rock history — the independent music scene in Bangalore, which was where the really surprising stuff started to emerge from the mothballed closet in the late 1990s. In businesspeak, this era was when Indian rock music sought to “differentiate” itself. Not through marketing strategy (a la Parikrama et al which still have nothing to offer the discerning music fan) but through inventiveness, performance and startling creative energy. Ergo, I am not sure if Ravi’s omission stems from ignorance (which is unforgivable) or from personal bias (which is charlatan).

Thermal And A Quarter, as those who know their Indian indie scene know, began this revolution by playing entire three-hour sets comprising only originals — as early as 1999. No Indian band, repeat, no Indian band (save some in that fantastic cultural pocket — the Northeast) was doing that then. One other band that did it explosively — and I was witness to their memorable show at Madras Christian College’s Deep Woods in 1996 — was (then not-yet-Mumbai’s) Chakraview (with Dhruv Ghanekar on some serious gizmo-led guitar).

Perhaps Ravi also might want to remember that Laila Rouass-starring black-and-white music video, Colourblind, by the Mumbai band of the same name (the duo of Ram Sampath and Siddharth Achrekar). It was a brilliant new statement (very indie) and added a dimension to Indian rock that did not hitherto exist (or last). Sampath (now a composer for films and famous for his copyright victory over the Roshans for copying the music of Krazzy 4) told me off the record when I interviewed him (about Ram Madhvani’s Let’s Talk for Rediff.com in December 2002) that Colourblind “had not been viable”.

Viability has always been the gradient against which Indian indie rock has laboured. Indus Creed, after showing us the light, disappointed us by disbanding and resurfacing again as Alms for Shanti, with an eponymous album that was released both in English and Hindi (Kashmakash, Free Spirit, 2001). Alms for Shanti, with a name that sounded like it had been coined by an armchair Indologist at the University of Hawaii, plays the club circuit in New York where they have established themselves as export-reject exotics. Although singer Uday Benegal cribbed about the sleaze in the music industry as an aside during an interview with Rediff.com in 2002, he also told me this: “We went West because we were disillusioned with the East. Because the music we were doing at that time had absolutely no place here. Not that we were seeking salvation in the West. We wanted to go ahead with the music we make and look for the audience in the West.”

That’s one way to go, but if you know the audience to be here you have to be loyal to it. It must be remembered that around the same time that Alms for Shanti announced their album to a crowd of wine-sipping and tikka-nibbling celebs at a swank Tardeo lounge bar, a lot of bands that had been either influenced by TAAQ or shared the same struggle emerged from Bangalore — Kryptos, Myndsnare, Galeej Gurus, Zebediah Plush… And I am not even talking in any detail about the metal scene (which, being loud enough as it is, deserves an altogether different celebratory writeup amid a full-flowing headbangathon at Styx).

That TAAQ (still an unsigned band) was not from Bollywood-besotted Mumbai or Hindi-mein-gao-yaar Delhi or still-smoking-the-Sixties Kolkata was really what went against them when they started. Or the fact that their music was a leap year ahead of the public imagination — I mean, how many Benadryl-swillers orgasming in the moshpit had actually heard of (let alone heard) Steely Dan and Pat Metheny, or even imagined that they could influence an Indian band’s sound? The few critics of this counterculture — jealous jilted lovers of it mostly — judged the music by a myopic yardstick: the done-to-death genres of metal and dinosaur rock.

With Jupiter Cafe (2002), TAAQ’s second album, Bangalore shot into the limelight. It continued with Plan B (2004), the first album from India to be distributed with a custom Creative Commons-like license. These, inarguably, were milestones in Indian rock. Indie media (Indiecision, Split, RadioVerve… hell, even the un-indie Rolling Stone) acknowledged and celebrated them. MTV, which has always fed off the now happily moribund record industry (recently resuscitated by MJ’s passing) and now mooches off Bollywood to survive in the subcontinent, has no authority to comment on the indie scene. In the two fitful decades of Indian rock, MTV has neither recognised nor supported the indie movement. And to pay lip service to it now, with a limp biscuit such as this, is both embarrassing and shameful.

As the man who named his daughter Moon Unit said: “In the fight between you and the world, back the world.”

I was excited to ride my bike to a place where lots of other folks were riding their bikes. The crowd included lots of NOLA Bike Polo team members as well as many MBC members and friends. I don’t know most of these bikers, so I was a little nervous, but at the same time, it felt a little like I’d found my people. I snapped this photo of folks sitting around and chatting while goldsprints sign ups went around. I’ve never seen goldsprints, and let me just say they are fun, fun, fun. I didn’t know most of the racers, but I found myself cheering them on (usually whoever was on the blue bike–matches my eyes) and getting in to the competition. Dudes were going over 50MPH! That’s serious racing, man. This was just the first event among many, and I’m looking forward to a weekend of bikes and bikers and biking. And yes, I’ll be getting there by bike.

Although we would always like to think that our first plan of action is going to be the one that get

Although we would always like to think that our first plan of action is going to be the one that gets us exactly to where we want first time every time, this is not always likely to be the case, and in fact things going exactly to plan is actually quite rare.

So perhaps we should take a leaf out of the military’s book and seek to have a ‘Plan B’ for certain if not most situations. Often however we are so obsessed with our Plan A occurring that we forget how to develop that Plan B to protect ourselves.

If you are looking at a project then, here are some ways in which you can work out your ‘Plan B’:

Critical steps. Work out in your project what are the key milestones, the ‘points of no return’ or the thing that if they didn’t go well would blow you out of the water. These will be your trigger points for when and or if you need a Plan B.

Critical people. From the steps that you’ve just highlighted above now work out who is attached to each of these tasks and who could replace them / assist them if they were unable to complete the tasks. If you are too reliant on one person you have a problem that a ‘Plan B’ needs to address.

Supplies / Suppliers. If you are relying on another company then you need to make sure that you have alternates in your ‘Plan B’ just in case they don’t come through for you. It’s a remote possibility because they will be driven by performance like you, generally, but what happens if they go under?

Equipment. If you are utilising equipment, make sure you have a spare. Make sure you have more than one person ‘who is the specialist at it’. And make sure that you have some or a company at hand who can repair it. If you are relying on equipment you must have a ‘Plan B’.

Hopefully these few points will highlight how necessary a ‘Plan B’ is for your particular scenario and what to look out for when planning.

Til later.

Here’s a few somewhat interesting developments for your eyeballs.

Sam Worthington earns the dubious crown of king of sci-fi

Worthington has signed on to star in what sounds like a rehash of Minority Report. Based on an as yet unpublished funnybook, “The Last Days of American Crime” is “set in the not-too-distant future, and involves the U.S. government’s plans to secretly broadcast a signal that makes it impossible for anyone to knowingly commit unlawful acts.”

Worthington “dropped out” of ‘The Tourist’, opposite Angelina Jolie (and was replaced by some unknown bloke named Johnny Depp), which is unfortunate because after T4, Avatar and Clash of the Titans, I reckon Sammy-boy needs to break away from sci-fi/fantasy blockbusters.

Brad Pitt enters the ‘Dark Void’

Get Uwe Boll on the blower, Pitt’s production company, Plan B, have bought the rights to the videogame ‘Dark Void’, which “follows a pilot who crash lands in the Bermuda Triangle following a routine mission and finds himself in an alternate world resembling a primitive Earth where aliens with superior technology are planning to take over civilization.” Plans are for Pitt to star.

Sounds a bit ‘Planet of the Apes’ish to me. Has there been a videogame adaptation that’s actually been any good?

When Steven met Stephen

Steven Spielberg has bought the rights to Stephen Kings new book ‘Under the Dome’, with the intent of producing it as a television miniseries. The book “revolves around the drama that unfolds after an invisible force field suddenly descends on a small vacation town in Maine. As the locals fight for their survival, the town descends into warring factions led by enigmatic characters.”

Film adaptations of King’s books tend to fall on the side of diabolically awful (with a few exceptions like ‘The Shining’ or ‘Misery’), but as a miniseries it could work. ‘The Stand’ wasn’t too bad, if memory serves.

It’s going to be a White Christmas.

Mike White is writing ‘Santa Wars’ which centres “around the battles that erupted after two men who made seasonal livings dressing up as Santas formed a union, the Amalgamated Order of Real Bearded Santas, but then became bitter rivals.”

I’m not much of a fan of seasonal flicks, but if this can even come remotely close to the warped genius of ‘Bad Santa’ then it may be half decent.

Brad Pitt’s film company, Plan B, has teamed up with Reliance to greenlight, “Dark Void”. A film that will be adapted from the popular computer game for the PC/CD-ROM, Xbox, PS3. This will also be a starring vehicle for Brad Pitt which he will star as the main character of the video game.

Who knew that Brad Pitt is into video games? It seems that he is a big time video gamer, if he knows about “Dark Void”. I’m sure he plays video games with his kids, at least. Sounds like an interesting flick.

Want to get fit for the festive season? Well rise and shine my friends! There is no better way to start your day than working up a sweat at a Plan B Breakfast Boot Camp.

With just six weeks to go before you have to squeeze into that LBD, now is the time to commit to get fit! Come along, join in the fun and bring your friends too! Your first session is FREE! These sessions are not just for ladies either… Men, come along if you think you are hard enough!

Training in the morning will free up the rest of your day, allowing you to focus on work and keep your evenings free for the festive fun to come!

Studies have shown that people that exercise in the morning are more likely to be exercising one year on, compared to those who exercise at other times of the day.

Morning Exercisers:

Have More Energy – You may have to drag yourself out of bed, but the energy you create by exercising in the morning will sustain you through the day.

Sleep Better – By getting up earlier, you’ll go to sleep earlier, helping you find your natural sleep cycle. Working out in the evening can create an adrenaline rush that can be hard to come down from to get to sleep.

Eat Better – It is easier to avoid temptation and talk yourself out of eating unhealthily when you have spent the waking hours of your day putting in the hard work, sweating away the pounds.

Are in a Better Mood – Exercise makes you feel good mentally as well as physically, a feeling that can last all day long.

Plan B Breakfast Boot Camp runs on a Monday and Thursday morning from 7am – 8am at Tudor Hall, Tudor Drive, Kingston (next to the Library). Tudor Hall Location .

Boot Camps are a form of circuit training that involves performing a series of different exercises in one training session, including resistance and cardiovascular training. Plan B Breakfast Boot Camp is a total body workout that is the perfect way to burn fat, tone muscle, increase strength and improve your fitness levels all at the same time. They cater for all levels and abilities and are a lot of FUN!

Plan B Breakfast Boot Camp cost £5 per session and you can pay as you go for your first three sessions (after you free session!). After that you can purchase a 10s Card for £50 which entitles you 10 sessions to be used within 6 months. Bring your card with you to each class, and the session will be marked off on your card. This saves with the hassle of paying each time you come.

I am planning on starting a Monday Night Boot Camp in Teddington soon as well. I am working on finding an indoor location at the moment, but if you know of a Hall or large room than we could use, please leave a comment and let me know. On a Monday night I appear to be trying to compete with Karate, Yoga and Bridge for the use of a good Hall!

I’ll leave you with this thought. A wise man once said “Those who do not find time for exercise will have to find time for illness”…

Planning for bad weather or other roadblocks will keep your fitness program in gear.

As fall turns to winter, the hardest (fitness/health) thing for me is exercise. (Next week, that hardest thing may change to the approaching onslaught of holiday food!)

When the roads and sidewalks are slick and potentially dangerous, it’s easy to say, “Maybe tomorrow.” That statement has been the death of my fitness regimen more than once. But there are other options.

My daughter Melanie is training for a triathlon, so has taken up swimming. She can go to the pool regardless of the weather, and put in a full-body workout that I’m sure trumps my measly walk/run and strength training sessions. (I’m SO proud of her, and her sisters, who’ve recently taken up distance running! I think they’re my inspiration.)

We all need to choose the fitness activities that suit us best (note the plural). I love being outside walking/running, doing yard work, shoveling snow… It makes me feel like I’m accomplishing something, even if that something is simply enjoying the beauty of God’s creations.

Maybe you like tennis, or racquetball, biking, hiking, mall walking, treadmilling or … (fill in the blank). Whatever it is you like to do, be sure to have a backup plan if there’s a chance you’ll be way-laid by the weather or some other limitation.

That “just in case” Plan B can save you from the guilt of an exercise (lack of) plan gone awry. Rather than guilt over unmet goals, we need to feel the satisfaction of success. And we make our own success by soaring over the stumbling blocks that life presents us with.

So make a plan. And don’t be afraid to share. What are your particular exercise challenges? What are your ideas about overcoming them—or how have you already overcome them? We’re all in this together. So I’ll do my best to help you, and I’d love it if you’d return the favor.

Will today be your Day One? Congratulations if it is, or if yesterday was. ’Til tomorrow, keep confident and resolute!

Will Smith says that he lives his life without a Plan B. He says that when you have a Plan B it div

Will Smith says that he lives his life without a Plan B. He says that when you have a Plan B it diverts your attention from Plan A, the plan that you really want to manifest. Will Smith is a genius.

We can live our lives having back-up plans for when things don’t go as planned, but when we do that, we give the Universe an “out”. If we focus on what we want, we get it (or sometimes something even better that we didn’t even know we should want). When we focus on something we don’t want, we get that too. So, if we are focusing on Plan A, but giving attention to Plan B, I think the Universe may get a little confused as to what we really want, don’t you?

So, first you really need to decide what you want. Many of us out there have no real definitive clue as to what we want. We know what we don’t want. We have some vague ideas about what we want and maybe even some ideas about how to get what we want. But really, when it comes down to it, the Universe doesn’t reward vagueness. It rewards specific, measureable beliefs and desires. So, figure out what you want.

I suggest writing it down, handwritten or typed and go through everything that pops into your head. If you are wanting to know what you want regarding your job, focus on things that within that scope. Likewise, if you are focusing on material possessions, during the exercise keep with the possessions and don’t deviate unless your Higher Self dictates to you that you are masking with “stuff” what you really want and need. And then, you may realize that you have just experienced a life-altering breakthrough– but that’s a whole ‘nother blog!

After you have written everything down that comes to mind, begin the pruning process. For a tree to grow and bear lots of luscious fruit, it needs to be pruned and tended. The same is true for getting what you want. So, prune your document. Start by converting all of the sentences that are in a negative format into a positive expression. For example, if you were to say “I don’t want to work for anyone else ever again!” Perhaps you could rephrase it to something like, “I choose/want to be self-employed”. Line by line, recreate into a positive format all of your wants.

Then, eliminate all of the things that are redundent. You don’t need to say the same thing over and over to get the results you desire. What you do need is to clarify anything on your list to be as specific as possible.

After you finish fine-tuning your list, it’s time to give it status. Print out your list onto nice paper with a font that appeals to you, or handwrite it in your best writing and then put it somewhere that you can easily see it and keep it in your awareness on a regular basis. It’s important to reflect on it and perhaps even fine-tune it further as you get closer and closer to manifesting what you want.

And lastly, you need to begin to ACT on these WANTS. Life if full of motion, not stagnation. When things are stagnant, they disease and die, when things are in action, they flourish and prosper. So, begin by acting. If you are wanting to be loved, for example, be loving (Dalai Lama). If you are wanting to work within a certain field, volunteer, go back to school for the education, read books on the subject, turn in your resume` to prospective employers… ACT, DO, CREATE, LEARN, INSPIRE!!! Go forth and put your wants into form!

Sometimes it is only with time that we are able to really be clear as to what we want, but until we start doing the exercises towards that understanding, we will only get leftovers, otherwise known as, Plan B.

There are a few albums every year that I absolutely fall in love with and play them over and over. Chase and Status‘ More than Alot is definitely one of those stellar albums and I’ve eaten up every track on their debut. I always get excited to hear their new mixes and the same holds true for new jam, End Credits. The tune, done for the soundtrack to a movie called Harry Brown, is a bit darker than Chase and Status’ usual vibe, but I love the way the grimy dub beat plays backdrop to Plan B’s introspective vocals. And in case you haven’t checked them yet, give my fav Chase and Status tracks a go below.

Caught this movie last night & I’ve gotta say, it’s very good… I highly recommend you go and see it! Michael Caine is great in the lead role of Harry Brown and the supporting cast are very convincing too. Plan B (AKA Ben Drew) plays the role of Noel, a drug dealing bully from the local estate (filmed in South London’s Elephant and Castle) and portrays the character admirably.

Some of the scenes are probably going to be quite disturbing for the more sensitive viewers, but trust me, it’s well worth the price of admission!

Check out the Top 20 charting “End Credits” by Chase & Status feat. Plan B, taken from the film:

To celebrate the launch of Detour, each week we are going to bring you equally fresh new music to get your lugs ’round. This week we bring you an eclectic mix of hip-hop, indie, rock’n'roll and techno for you audio pleasure.

Plan B – Stay to Long

Returning from his foray into acting, in the brilliant Adulthood and eagerly awaited Harry Brown, East London’s finest is back with his first single since debut album; Who Needs Actions When You Got Words. Soulful crooning and high octane rhymes blend perfectly for Plan B’s most accessible work yet.

Frankie and the Heartstrings – Hunger

Hotly tipped by Detour (then InJournalism) way back in april, this looks set to be the first single for the Mackem indie-popsters. FATHS have been making big waves with those in the know since those unsigned days. They are currently being championed by Radio 1’s Huge Stevens and are supporting Florence and the Machine on their nationwide tour.

Little Red – Coca-Cola

Vintage, feel-good, rock’n'roll from this Australian five-piece, complete with shimmering guitars, four part harmonies and hand claps. What more do you need?

Luciano – Los Ninos De Fuera

One for the tech’eads from the Chilean master’s latest studio release, Tribute To The Sun. The album is more experimental than fans have come to expect from the Cadenza man’s DJ sets but, as highlighted by this track, equally as sensational.

We Were Promised Jet Packs – Quiet Little Voices

This one has been around from a while now but for those not familiar with the Glasgow based upstarts, its a great introduction after a sensational live performance at Sunderland’s Independent earlier this month.
