The holidays are here and that means it’s time to hang out with those people you try to avoid most of the year, your family. Here are some conversations to avoid when spending the holidays with family.

1. Why did you have me? Probably not the best question to ask your parents when  you’re four glasses of wine or Hennessy in. And really, you already know the answer to this question. They were black out drunk and didn’t use protection and/or your mom was on birth control pills, but those pesky antibiotics she was taking after having dental work done counteracted their effects.

2. Christmas is not a good time to look at that uncle you despise and say: “I wish you would go into cardiac arrest.” Wait till after the new year to express your true want for him to expire.

3. Don’t look at your kids and say, “Damn! All I ever wanted was cats and then you two came along.”

4. Don’t challenge the religious beliefs of family members. For example, now is not a good time to ask your mormon brother-in-law, “Will your after-life planet be filled with assholes like you?”

5. Christmas is also not a good time to tell your cousin that you find their golden lab “rather attractive.”

6. Even though it may have been bothering you for years, I would hold off on asking your parents how they stay married despite your dad’s love of wearing women’s underwear and braziers.

7. Don’t tell your husband, “I’m leaving you to be with your sister.” This is best saved for Valentine’s Day.

8. Try not to greet your cousin at the door with, “Hey. You still got those genital warts?”

9. Don’t use Christmas dinner as a time to auction off your kids to the highest bidder. “So…how much would you give me for Skyler? I’d take $200 bucks. There’s this really cute sweater at Nordstrom’s that I’ve been eyeing.”

10. Don’t ask your grandmother, “Where do you keep your paint thinner? I’m mixing up an awesome batch of meth in your tub.”

11. Christmas is not the time to ask your family, “So how do you feel about murder? Would you judge someone killed…let’s just say his wife?”

12. The holidays are not the best time to admit to pimping out your grandfather to pay for a PS3.

13. Please don’t try to have a heart to heart with your sister about how she needs to apply for the Biggest Loser. How is she supposed to enjoy her eggnog, cheesy mashed potatoes and french silk pie after that?

14. Don’t ask your family members personal questions such as:

• How many overdrafts have you had this year?
• Do you really think we like you?
• Why didn’t you finish junior high?
• How long are you planning on hiding your teen pregnancy? Teen pregnancy is a serious issue. I know you may be confused since Juno made it look so damn cool.
• Would you be mad if I put your dog down?
• Do you want to make-out? (wait till your birthday when they are expected to give you what you want).
• Would you vote for Sarah Palin? Now is not the time to point out their idiocy.
• Can you read this to me? You know most of them can’t read.
• When are you two getting divorced? We all can see it coming.
• Why didn’t you invite your mistresses?
• Can you borrow me a little cash? I got to make a run down to Planned Parenthood.

Hi Bloggies, happy Sunday afternoon!

Today has  been a lazy day, with a capital L.  Chris is still nursing his cold and neither of us slept well last night (until I finally remembered my mom telling me to sleep with my head propped WAY up when I had a cough as a kid and we finally fell asleep around 6am) so I woke up dehydrated, with a raging headache and just sleepy in general.  I felt a little guilty skipping my 6 miles this morning, but sometimes you just need to blog and be lazy

Chris’ mom made breakfast this morning – scrambled eggs with leftover ham from last night and cheese.  I ate a scoop of eggs minus the ham…darn PETA images in my head!!  I also had 2 slices of wheat toast with butter (Shedd’s Spread Country Crock, what my grandparents used to use – felt like Sundays as a kid, hehe) and some of my homemade triple berry jelly from this summer (pre-blogging, can’t wait to photograph and share with you guys this summer…it seriously looks like a murder scene and takes forever to clean up, but is so good it’s worth it).  Typical of the last week, I failed on pictures

After breakfast we had to run to Best Buy to pick up something for Chris’ video game thing-a-ma-bobber and Costco to pick up chicken (our Costco carries Coleman Organics chicken, which we really enjoy).  Best Buy didn’t have what Chris needed, but I did manage to find some Trolli Bright Crawlers and a  bottle of water (and Chris found a set of 3 games for the Wii he wanted that was normally $49.99 marked down to $19.99!).  At Costco we got 2 whole chickens, the card Chris needed for his game thing (it was $170 at Best Buy and $28 at Costco – same brand and everything!!), a cute purple sweater I could not pass up (short-sleeve, deep V and a really deep purple color that was only $12) and some lunch meat.  We then headed over to Ultimate Electronics to look for the card reader and ran into Chris’ parents!!  Small world

At Ultimate we found the card reader and browsed through the appliances as I have an infatuation with Electrolux and was looking to see if they’re only carried at Best Buy or other places…so far looks like just  Best Buy in our area.  We also checked out the selection of pool tables and found one we really like.  It’s only $9,500 – so we’ll be putting that on our Christmas list next year…not!  It would be nice though   We also found some fun chairs that go in the game room that have a holder not only for your drink, but also your pool stick!  They were only $799.99 each   A girl can dream…

After Ultimate we came home and I cleaned the bathroom and started some laundry while Chris cleaned the tub and our fish Franklin’s tank.  Franklin has been playing dead lately but after getting fresh water today he was unstoppable!  He was looping around and around his tank for a good 2 or 3 minutes and then went to take a nap in his “house.”  Apparently he was worn out.  We made a quick lunch of Udi’s sour dough bread (found at Costco last week, score) topped with a little pizza sauce + turkey pepperoni + Parmesan + a sprinkle of mozzarella.  On the side we had some Rice Works chips and each had 2 Newman-Os.  If you haven’t tried these, you need to!  They taste JUST like Oreo’s but are made with mainly organic ingredients and a portion of proceeds goes to charity.

Now I’m curled up with one of Chris’ parents dogs while Chris is trying to figure out how to stream Hulu through the internet in his PlayStation 3.  I just discovered how freaking awesome Hulu since we moved in with Chris’ parents and am hooked!  Last night I watched Top Chef and last week we watched Glee…fun!!

Ok so here’s the thing. Im sitting here playing my PS3 online tryna find me some hype people to mic it on up with, but everytime i go into a room or create one on any game mind you. Either no one speaks the people with mics are scared to speak, and or lack any gaming skill my thing is how hard can it be to go spend an extra 20 bucks to buy a bluetooth at radio shack with a 5 dollar warranty and actually be decent at the game. Seriously my first online experience was with the xbox 360 and people are hella hype on there people rangeing from talkin shit, internet gangstas, pro caliber players, and a better overall communication service going on. My thing is this maybe if sony packaged some free mics there will be more voices, and more gamer satifaction so sony do me a favor atleast throw your cheap mic up in that ps3 box PLZZZZZ!!!!

Lunedì abbiamo trascorso tutta la serata tra  i colleghi  dell’ ospedale  e dopo una ricca cena a base di Pizza abbiamo iniziato a sbizzarrirci con giochi ad alta definizione, sperimentando il controllo wireless e collegandoci ad internet  a PS Network  abbiamo sfidato  gli amici on-line

all’ ultimo colpo…senza pietà!!!! ahaha. La serata è trascorsa tra giochi, simulazioni di guerra,sport e risate, tante risate ma non sono mancate le lamentele

Le ragazze ci guardavano annoiate  quindi dopo circa 3 ore di gioco allo stato puro ci siamo sparati anche un bel film per far felici le dolci donzelle che intanto continuavano come al solito a spettegolare davanti a fiumi di vino,  LE SOLITE . La prossima volta organizziamo una sfida tutta al femminile voglio vedere come cacciano le unghie e scommetto che non si annoieranno per nulla e la smetterenno con le solite lagne.

Well being the over-the-top video game dork that I am, I wrote a 5 paged synopsis of multiple genres and titles that should be considered. I apologize McCarthy family, I get carried away sometimes… Well I figured that other people might get a kick out of seeing what I suggested, so take a look!

Max’s Amazingly Great Games for the PS3 List –

Platformers:

Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time – $49.99 – Rated E – Everyone knows and loves the Ratchet and Clank series, and the most recent iteration is no different. It delivers a solid platform experience and is a comedic, family friendly game. Alternative: Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction was released a few years ago for the PS3, and is currently only $29.99. Even though it is a few years old, it would still deliver the same great experience. Simply put a Ratchet game is always fun.

Little Big Planet GOTY: Edition – $59.99 – Rated E – Quiet possibly the cutest videogame of all time. The player controls the adorable Sackboy through imaginative worlds, collecting hundreds of alternative costumes, environments, and stickers. The game itself is tons of fun, but the real mileage comes from the creative tool. Every single level in the game was created using the tools that the player is given. The tools are extremely deep, but there is a learning curve, and a person who is easily frustrated might want to steer clear. If you are the type of gamer who loves creating unique levels, and doesn’t mind a challenge, then LBP is a great buy. But if spending hours creating unique levels doesn’t sound like your cup of tea, you might want to steer clear of this one.

Role Playing Games:

Valkyria Chronicles – $19.99 – Rated T – This is a rather strange game. It is a turn based RPG, set in a fake continent during the 1930s. You control a group of anime-esque characters. I have never personally played this game, but have heard very good things about it. It is definitely a hit or miss type of game, but if turn based strategy with 1930s weapons excites you, then Valkyria Chronicles is your winner. I felt I should include it on this list, because it is a relatively new title that has gotten great reviews, but is retailing for only 20 bucks, which is an absolute steal.

Fallout 3 GOTY Edition – $39.99 – Rated M –  Simply put this was the actual game of the year from 2008. And the game of the year edition provides not only the main story, which could easily last 50+ hours of game play, but also all 5 downloadable packs on one disk. The 5 DLC packs released throughout 2009 each sold originally for 10 bucks a piece, so having them all packed onto the disk is a tremendous steal. Fallout 3 is a first person RPG set in the post-apocalyptic wasteland of Washington DC. It is a world stuck in the 1950s style, and provides an absolutely mindboggling amount of locations to explore, missions to complete, and items to collect. But be warned, this game is not for the casual player. It will suck your life away, and make you want to play for hours and hours. It is also a rather dark game, dealing with a world that is mired in war. Allowing the player to commit heinous acts for self-improvement, or selfless acts for the good of mankind. It is a great game, and at $40 bucks, there is more content here than you could ever complete. But it is a hit or miss title, and for some it will just be too difficult to get involved in.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivions GOTY Edition: $29.99 – Rated M – Oblivions is made by Bethesda, the same guys that made Fallout 3, and like Fallout 3 this game is deep, and amazing. It is a similar first person RPG, but is set in a more fantasy style realm, unlike the barren post apocalyptic wasteland that is Fallout 3. It is a daunting game, because there is just so much to do, and the GOTY edition includes the Knights of the Nine and Shivering Isles expansions, which add hours and hours of gameplay, and both cost around 30 bucks when they were released. This game is a few years old, and so for 30 bucks it is an absolute steal. And the setting of elves, orcs, magic spells and swords might be a bit more inviting to some than Fallout 3’s guns, grenades, super mutants, and decrepit buildings.

Shooters:

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves – $49.99 – Rated T – Adam Sessler, a tremendously well respected videogame journalist called Uncharted 2 “The greatest single player experience of all time,” and that is not far off. I love this game, it is cinematic, engrossing, beautiful, funny, emotional, essentially a 10 hour action movie. Obviously, if you do not like shooters, then this game will not change your mind, but Sam watched me play this game for about 5 hours and loved it. It is so visually impressive and the game play is top notch, that it is just an experience all gamers must enjoy.

Racers:

Burnout Paradise – $19.99 – Rated E – Burnout Paradise is two years old, and still arguably the best racing title on the market. It is beautiful, expansive, and still provides the white-knuckle arcade style racing of past iterations. There is also a wealth of downloadable content available for Paradise, and some of it is free. There is almost nothing bad to say about this game, if you want a fun racing title for cheap, this is the one to get. The only drawback is there is no local multiplayer. While multiplayer exists over the internet, there is no split screen racing, which is a minor drawback. One added positive is it is available for direct download from PSN, so no having to worry about losing or breaking the disk when it is sitting pretty on your hard drive.

Note – The Motorstorm franchise(two games have been released for the PS3 thus far) is a Playstation exclusive, and offers a more off-road style racing. With a variety of cars such as monster trucks, ATVs, and dirtbikes, it might be the right choice for people looking for a more extreme track style racing than Burnout Paradise’s more “realistic” city style racing. Also there may be local multiplayer with Motorstorm which would be a plus over Burnout.

Sports Games:

Sports games are sports games, if you love football, get Madden, if basketball is your cup of tea then NBA Live is the ticket. They provide a fun local multiplayer experience, and can last for a long time. My only advice when dealing with sport games is buy the year old game. Madden 10 is almost identical to Madden 09, but will cost half as much, maybe less. With only a year between iterations the only changes are menu tweaks, roster updates, and maybe the addition of a new mode. In most cases it is not worth the huge hike in price to get the most recent sports title.

Fighting:

Street Fighter IV – $19.99 – Rated T – If you are yearning for a classic vs style, life bar fighting game, then look no farther than Street Fighter IV. For only 20 bucks, you get a fighting game that is less than a year old, that delivers a great local and Internet multiplayer experience, beautiful visuals, and one of the most trusted names in the whole fighting genre. If fighting games are your thing, then Street Fighter IV is the best choice.

My Personal Pick :

Bioshock – $19.99 – Rated M – I couldn’t in good conscience write a list about games to buy, and not put on my personal favorite. Bioshock is an absolute masterpiece of atmosphere and storytelling. If you want to solve the argument of, “Are videogames art?” your first piece of evidence should be Bioshock. It is a beautiful, twisted, and exhilarating adventure through the fallen underwater utopia, Rapture. It is a 12 – 15 hour experience that every gamer should experience. I have, many many times, and it never gets old.

Good morning! How was everyone’s thanksgiving weekend? I don’t usually post on Mondays but I’m bored somewhat sick and not going to class today so. I figured I might as well do something productive other then just watch movies all day.

So there’s been a lot on the internet today about two Android products. First the HTC Hero, which looks pretty sick but they all look pretty cool. So I’m not going to even really  bother writing about it. If you are interested in reading about another Android phone (Click Here) The other was the rumored Google phone which would run on Google Voice or there own VoIP. That right there is worth getting excited for! If Google is telling me they can make my cell phone bill lower then I’m all about listening to what they got to say, and telling AT&T to go fuck themselves.

Also I just read some crazy shit over at Gizmodo that Department of Defense bought 2,200 PS3 consoles to build a supercomputer. Interesting very interesting.

Este estudio partió de la iniciativa de las fuerzas armadas americanas de desarrollar un videojuego, America’s Army, que publicitase en ingreso en el servicio regular. Pese a contar con una calidad bastante inferior a otros títulos de temática similar, el juego ha gozado de bastante aceptación en tierras americanas desde su primera entrega, admitiendo el propio organismo estatal que las inscripciones han aumentado desde entonces.

El mecanismo propagandístico no se queda ahí, sino que desde los mandos del órgano de defensa se asegura a los jóvenes que parte del entrenamiento se realiza por medio de métodos basados en el ocio electrónico. Por ejemplo, al margen de simuladores de vuelo y demás, los soldados aprenderán a controlar robots zapadores .Otro ejemplo, es el método de atenuar los desórdenes de la personalidad post-traumáticos derivados de la batalla, solucionados con un simulador social al más puro estilo Second Life.

Activision está que no se lo cree. Tras el increíble éxito de Modern Warfare 2, la distribuidora parece no querer soltar la gallina de los huevos de oro, a pesar de contar con una nutrida experiencia en el campo de la sobreexplotación de franquicias.

A pesar de que su anterior saga de éxito, Guitar Hero, cuenta con una importante saturación de títulos en el mercado y que al parecer ya no cuenta con tan buenas ventas como obtuvo en su lanzamiento, a su responsable lo considera una fórmula correcta y pretende, según el diario LA Times, abrir un tercer estudio de desarrollo para la franquicia Call of Duty.

Si el ritmo de prácticamente un título por año no era suficiente, un nuevo estudio se sumaría a Infinity Ward y Treyarch, por lo que los doce meses entre uno y otro podrían reducirse hasta quizás nueve. Algunos medios especializados advierten que los nuevos desarrolladores se encargarían del rumoreado CoD MMO, aunque de momento, al igual que el tercer estudio, siguen siendo conjeturas.

La web de Sony ha publicado una presentación en PDF ( http://www.sony.net/SonyInfo/IR/info/strategy/pdf/200911presen.pdf ) en la que se detalla la estrategia comercial de la compañía para los próximos meses. En relación a PS3, un encabezado brilla por encima del resto: PSN obtendrá una “nueva corriente de ingresos a través de subscripciones”.

Que no cunda el pánico, pues Kaz Hirai, jefe de Sony Computer Entertainment, se ha apresurado a confirmar que el juego online permanecerá siendo gratuito, y que las subscripciones afectarán a una serie de contenido “premium” y servicios especiales, que convivirán con el material gratuito.

“En el area online, estamos estudiando la posibildad de introducir un modelo de subscripción, ofreciendo contendio premium y servicios, además de los servicios gratuitos actuales”, aclara el comunicado publicado en VG247.

A estas alturas de la película, nunca mejor dicho, ningún aficionado al mundo de los videojuegos ignorará la creciente pasión de Hollywood por adaptar, grandes éxitos del ocio interactivo a la pantalla grande. Hasta ahora habíamos podido ver cómo sagas legendarias eran relativamente plasmadas en 90 minutos de metraje, como es el caso de la próxima Prince of Persia, sin embargo Capcom ha decidido romper esta línea continuista para ofrecer una película de un juego que todavía ni ha llegado al mercado.

La adaptación cinematográfica de Dark Void acaba de ser anunciada oficialmente por su desarrolladora, y no como un posible proyecto futuro, sino como un hecho consumado en vías de filmación. La película estará realizada por Reliance Big Entertainment y Plan B, productora del mismísimo Brad Pitt, lo que prácticamente asegura quién encarnará el papel principal.

El comunicado reza que “la adaptación cinematográfica del juego Dark Void está siendo desarrollada como una franquicia de acción y ciencia-ficción, potencialmente protagonizada por Pitt”.

“Dark Void es una adrenalínica mezcla de combates en tierra y en el cielo que se centra en Will, un piloto que se estrella en el triángulo de las Bermudas en una misión rutinaria. Will despertará en Void, un mundo alternativo similar a La Tierra en un estado primigenio donde unos alienígenas con una tecnología superior planean conquistar todas las civilizaciones. Junto con una facción de humanos que también se perdieron en Void, Will plantará cara a los alienígenas usando su propia tecnología, incluyendo un poderoso Jetpack con el que se enfrentará a ellos para mantener el orden en el mundo civilizado”.

La próxima actualización de la sobremesa de Sony, 3.10 para ser exactos, incluirá entre sus funciones la posibilidad de conectarse a Facebook desde el propio sistema XMB según ha confirmado hoy la compañía Nipona. El anuncio había sido filtrado hace apenas una semana, cuando unas fotos del añadido aparecieron fugazmente en la página oficial de Playstation Network inglesa.

A pesar de su rápida desaparición y de la negativa por parte de Sony de una respuesta firme, parece ser que finalmente el añadido será finalmente incluido. Este nuevo giro en los acontecimientos supondría el final de otra exclusiva de Microsoft, tras la pérdida del contrato de exclusividad con Netflix en Estados Unidos y la toma de contacto con Sky TV en Reino Unido.

Desde que Sony ingresó en el club de los desarrolladores de consolas parece que sus productos tienen la extraña capacidad de ser usados para toda clase de tareas al margen de las planificadas inicialmente. Si Playstation 2 podía controlar misiles intercontinentales, su hermana mayor se ha convertido en el nuevo instrumento del FBI en la caza de pederastas informáticos.

Según ha contado el agente Claude E. Davenport, de los servicios de Inmigración, Aduanas y Delitos Informáticos, al representante de la fundación Scripps Howard, Joseph D. Szydlowski, el dispositivo de Sony está siendo usado para desencriptar los discos duros de sospechosos de pederastia.

Gran Turismo 5 (atau yang lebih dikenal sebagai GT5) adalah seri kelima dari game simulasi balapan Gran Turismo yang akan djadualkan rilis bulan Maret 2010.  Sekarang game ini sedang dalam tahap pengembangan oleh Polyphony Digital dan akan di-publish oleh Sony Computer Entertainment untuk konsol game PlayStation 3. Por otra parte, y como ya adelantamos en nuestro Primer Contacto jugable con el videojuego, MotoGP apuesta por una jugabilidad mucho más arcade, basándose en conceptos que ya conocíamos. Así pues el acelerador continuará equipado en el gatillo derecho, el freno en el izquierdo y de nuevo si optamos por el cambio de marchas manual lo llevaremos cambiando arriba y abajo rápidamente con los botones superiores del pad. Por supuesto el movimiento del cuerpo sobre la motocicleta será también fundamental a la hora de controlar las frenadas y trazar adecuadamente las curvas.

MotoGP 09/10 llegará a las tiendas de todo el mundo durante el mes de marzo del próximo año 2010. En ese preciso instante se cerrará una sequía de dos años sin ningún título de velocidad con esta licencia oficial que llevarse a la boca en Xbox 360 y PlayStation 3.

Somos unos ansiosos. Aun no hemos disfrutado los juegazos que están saliendo estos días y ya estamos mirando más allá, y cuando no, nos hacen mirar. Es el caso de Square-Enix, la cual ha anunciado hoy la fecha de salida de Final Fantasy XIII en Europa: el 9 de Marzo de 2010.

Seguro que será uno de los juegos del año, pero yo a este género y sobre todo a esta franquicia nunca les he llegado a coger el punto.
