This time round we the creative department of PLAY TV is thinking of introducing a revolutionary concept in the history of broadcast industry of Pakistan.

For the first time we will be launching a short animated movie and will base the entire channel packaging on it. This august will mark the third anniversary of PLAY TV and we are planning to launch it during this time. We have been working for last 8 months on this concept and have finally reached the completion. More will be coming soon on this.

Long gone are the days when the artful scammer was at home on back alley streets and illegal gambling joints. No more does the scam artist don a dirty trench coat and fingerless gloves. In these modern times, the artful scammer is hidden away, behind some quiff-haired, eyebrow-raising D4 tosser who speaks out of the side of his mouth in the cheesiest voice since Terry Wogan.

The new breed of scammer has insidiously invaded our most beloved of mediums, embedding itself in our one trusted beacon of hope: Our Telly.

While staying up late one fine evening (such is the life on the unemployed!), we came across TV3’s shameless new money-spinner- Play TV Ireland. Never before have the crones been exposed to such blatant thievery. The cheap and garish Play TV is broadcast weeknights on TV3 between the hours of 12 and 3 am, and is allegedly housed in a shoddy studio somewhere in Bulgaria. We will not even comment on the cheapness of the set, but let us say that we reckon more of their overheads went into buying hair gel for that scrote presenter than into the production.

The principle is of course the introduction of a” very simple” question, usually a numbers or letters puzzle. Then, the practise of shitetalking is turned into an art form. Resident Play TV Tosser bays down the camera relentlessly, as though their head would spontaneously combust at the precise moment they stop rabbiting, urging us all to call in before some clever dick beats us to it. Despite the fake urgency, the phone remains remarkably silent and the terrible cycle of verbal diahorrea continues. It is like Speed without a bus and a bigger, more wooden twat in the lead role.

For the poor saps who do decide to call in, there are no guarantees you will even get through to the studio. Microscopic writing on the ticker does tell us you will be charged €1.50 REGARDLESS of weather you get through or not. Therefore, you will be charged €1.50 for an exercise in utter futility. Oh, a select few do get through though, but it seems only the foolish and bewildered are so lucky. Rarely do we hear a correct answer early in the programme, despite the alleged simplicity of the questions. What we do see (finally) is some old geezer named Seamus get through, who inevitably gives a completely incorrect answer, as he cannot see the screen for his cataracts.

A recent example of their rage inducing “games”:

• The letters E S C A L A T O R appear on screen.

• We are told that the answer is a person’s name contained within these letters.

• One computates all of the unusual names within- Carlos, Oscar, Carla etc.

• The on-screen tosser does a lot of eyebrow raising, nodding and wild gesticulating, telling us how easy this really is. “Run down through all the people you know!! YOU HAVE HEARD THIS NAME BEFORE!!! CALL NOW!!!!!!”.

• Seamus calls in and suggests “Mary”.

• Four hours pass…and we find out the name in question is: Eros. FUCKING EROS.

Oh yes, typical name we have all heard before. Why didn’t I only think of little Eros with that Greek family down the road there? The answer may as well have been Bort.

Its absolutely sickening and soul destroying. The terrible thing about it is, once you turn it on, you simply MUST know what the answer is. You hate yourself for watching it. The yellow and red set swims before your eyes as you plead to the baby Jesus in heaven…please let them say the answer soon and let me sleep. No such luck. You end up awake until 3 am, a fractured shell of the person you once were. You know someone is going to ring with the answer soon, JUST TEN MORE “MOMENTS” LEFT. Ten more “moments”…it can’t be that long….CAN IT???

You see, Play TV operates on a different concept of time than us idiots here in the real world. In a shameless attempt to generate more callers and breed tension, Play TV Tosser claims that it’s OUR LAST CHANCE to call…TEN MOMENTS!!!! Not seconds or even minutes-, this completely new unit of time measurement equals approximately 5 minutes. Then there’s the stopwatch. And the flashing warnings. All of which seems to mean absolutely nothing, as either way, no one will “win” until the broadcast ends at 3 am. If someone does win at all, that is.

Now, we understand the simple concept of changing the channel or paying this scam no mind. But what we want to know is, how are these cowboys getting away with it? Upon investigating further, we see that there is a serious lack of information online. Is it enough for some saddo in his mother’s boxroom to wilfully hand over his cash? Or is there some sort of protection against stupidity out there? We always assumed that broadcasters were not allowed to be deliberately misleading.

If you come across this absolute shitfestival on your journeys through TV land, and are enticed to call in…just fill a briefcase with all your money, and deliver it off at Play TV’s headquarters. It would probably be cheaper than trying to win their outrageous competitions.

I have learned my employers are a relatively unforgiving bunch.

You may have noticed my lack of blogging. This is because my work load rained down on me over the last few weeks. Initially, a new system was launched and let’s just says I was having trouble with it. I am not amazing with technology. When it comes to number crunching, I am the type of guy that prefers an abacus and chalk board. All this new software, currencies (that come in three versions), reconciliations, processes and responsibilities totally blew my bulb. I floundered to get on top of it. It came to the crunch and I misgauged my priorities. The net effect was a colleague and I staying back for two and a half hours on Friday evening.

On Monday morning, the proverbial pooh hit the fan.

Whoops!

My colleague who was detained that Friday evening was probably the worst person to keep late.

Accusations flew back and forth between she and I. She carried more weight because she does not use abacuses and chalk; she is an accountancy goddess. I received her wrath!

Don’t worry, I did not take it lying down. I bet you’re not surprised.

Now, as a result of these events, I have to sit down with my manager on a weekly basis and go through my list of tasks. I feel like the remedial employee. It’s ironic that I actually found it difficult to draw up a list of tasks since I barely know what I am doing. Unfortunately, blogging can’t go on the checklist. I was tempted to clarify that one.

It is for this reason and this reason alone I have not been able to inform you of the amazing time I had in Budapest over the weekend. I went with a friend form college. I was unable to write about the (literally) shitty club, Cafe Capella, that my mate and I visited. I didn’t have time to describe the holy show I made of myself on the dance floor while he was ‘occupied’. I lacked the time to describe how my shoes tore my feet to pieces. I would have documented the pinnacle of my weekend – drinking with the presenters of that new after hours show on TV3, Play TV. It was such a good night. We ended up in a bar called the Funny Carrot, where we remained until 06.00 on Monday morning. The barman, Lola, was an amazing host:

“You promeez Lola you come back hir veez yar pardner”

Monday in Budapest was spent panicking in the hotel when I learned it was in fact 13.20 and not 10.20. After locating a tram to take me to the park, I lay face down in the grass on Margaret Island for two hours. I eventually sobered up around 17.00 to have my stomach jolted about by a Danish taxi driver, who should not have been on the road. The gobshite even dropped us to the wrong terminal after consulting a list to ensure we were headed to the right one. After that pleasant jaunt in the cab, I became reacquainted with the contents of my stomach in the toilet cubicle of the airport.

Overall a good weekend and a not so good week, but hey, at least I had something to write about.

… So , Oh my gosh, I was on TV! EEEEK!

I sound like a complete wannabe/teenybopper/narcissist.

But wow – it was amazing.

Working in the media, I’ve often not been a fan of the glitter and glam – rather never been impressed by it. I’ve seen temperamental stars take out their diva-ism on the poor overworked make up girl, who’s never ending smiles and ability to make small talk amaze me.

But I’d never known what if felt like to be in that chair – having someone work on your face, using a sponge to mask all signs of human imperfection with seemingly effortless streaks. To contour and blend and shadow your eyes pink and smudge with kohl – mascara wanding your eyelashes to enviable heights.

You look glamourous. I’m someone who never uses make up – the transformation was fantastic.

Nerves had started getting the better of me by the time we reached the studio, which was away from the main office – We sat, the four of us, quietly in the dressing room of the studio, listening to the show go on outside.

We were finally getting on air to talk about our play, The Importance of being Earnest – being held from the 23rd to 25th of May, ie Saturday to Monday. That is, THIS WEEKEND!!!!!!

Twenty minutes later – We sat , three camera pointed at us, one tv showing us how we looked , and randomness going on. Phonecalls coming in on the fritz – but after a few minutes of being self conscious, I think we settled in quite well – it was a hell of a lot fun. Talking, laughing, turning myself into cotton candy and marshmallows and bugging the hosts. LOL.

We had a great time.Got in great marketing. What an exciting experience

Il quale oggetto è sì arrivatto, ma quei cretini della Sony hanno ben pensato, a non so quanti mesi dalla release ufficiale del prodotto, di mandare la versione per la stampa.
Non ci sarebbe alcun problema, se non fosse che il software incluso è una bete che
- è buggatissima (a livello che la tv si vede a scatti e l’audio gracchia)
- NON è aggiornabile
Ergo sono in attesa di una spedizione, da parte di questa società giapponese che ultimamente non ne azzecca una, di una versione completa del software.

Bon, in attesa di ciò mi consolo con Echocrome, Buzz Gran Quiz e Secret Agent Clank, tutti per PSP.
Ho giocato il primo, solo un giorno a dir la verità, ma sono grossomodo pronto per recensirlo.

Eh già, seconda recensione hardware, ma questa volta decisamente più complessa.

E’ in arrivo da quel di Reggio Calabria, patria del mio boss, Play TV, il registratore made in Sony fatto apposta per la PS3. Ringrazio molto Roberto per questa possibilità, dato che non si assegna un hardware da 100 euro al primo stronzo che capita…

Ficou sendo transmitida apenas na internet e agora irá renascer das cinzas na TV por Assinatura. Filmes, Séries e Animes em sua programação? Por enquanto não se sabe muito. A antiga exibia tais programas, porém os contratos de exibições não tem mais validade. É esperar estrear para ver o que terá.

Agora os 2 canais que vale a pena serem mencionados:

Space: Novo canal da Turner. Não tem nada de especial ou fabuloso no canal, a programação atual dele é de filmes e séries antigas. Mas ainda assim é uma bela adição pois exibe séries como Arquivo X, Dead Like Me, Nova York contra o Crime entre outras. Também exibe filmes antigos da década de 90, como A última Fortaleza, Medidas Desesperadas e Esfera. Não sei dizer se o canal legenda ou dubla os programas ou se oferece as duas opções a seus telespectadores.

Megapix: Esse é um novo canal da Globosat e pelo que andei pesquisando pela internet é filme dublado o dia todo. Provavelmente nasceu para rivalizar o TNT da Turner. Não é ruim pelo que pesquisei, tem filmes recentes e filmes velhos. Precisa de um site na internet decente o mais rápido possível. Não faria mal também se o canal disponibilizasse opções para quem gosta de áudio original. os receptores de TV por assinatura de hoje em dia já permitem isso – o canal FOX mesmo dá o direito de ver dublado ou legendado seus programas.

E com a inclusão deles a SKY vai mexer novamente em toda a numeração de sua grade. Eu cheguei e vê-la já. Algumas coisas eu gostei, por exemplo, os canais de desenho irão lá para a faixa 90, o que é bom porque o Animax vai ficar mais perto deles. Já algumas desas mudanças eu não gostei, como por exemplo, o canal Fox Life ficou bem longe, numericamente, da Fox e do FX. Os canais Globosat não irão sofrer mudanças, parece que eles tem contrato para que isso nunca ocorra, o que é bizarro diga-se de passagem.

E, para terminar, ainda não há qualquer notícia sobre a inclusão do I-Sat, também um canal recente da Turner, de séries e filmes, na operadora, o que é uma pena já que eu acho a programação do I-Sat um pouco melhor que a do Space – pelo menos olhando a programação nos sites dos canais. O mesmo vale para o Tooncast, novo canal de desenho feito nos moldes do antigo Boomerang, com desenhos Hanna-Barbera e Cartoons Cartoons, porém o Tooncast só será inaugurado em Dezembro no Brasil e pela nova programação, a Sky deixou uns buracos entre alguns canais, o que poderia muito bem acomodar estes 2 canais.

Quanto ao pacote em que eles estarão, parece-me que o Space e o Megapix irão começar nos pacotes mais caros, porém durante a inauguração terão um período de degustação para todos os assinantes.

Das ganze Werk ist 162 Seiten stark und seit gestern im Handel. Klar, die obligatorische “Geschichte der Videospiele” ist mit dabei, ebenso wie Reportagen über die Homebrew-Szene, Blue-ray Disc vs. Video-on-Demand und ein Elternratgeber.
Getestet werden PS2, PS3, XBOX 360, Wii, DS, PSP, iPod Touch, Play-TV, PSP-Navi, Talkman, Lankräder, Full-HD-Fernseher und die 100 besten Spiele. Insgesammt über 70 Seiten an Tests. Zusätzlich gibt es noch Praxis-Ratgeber zu den Themen Online-Verbindungen, Filme rekodieren und streamen, Verkabelung, PS 3 Festplattenaustausch, Linux auf der PS3 und Wiimote am PC.
Außerdem wurde noch eine DVD mit Yellow Dog Linux für PS3 beigelegt, eine Linuxdistribution, die auf jeder PS3 läuft.

Sauviel Material für 8,50 €. Wer also sein Wissen über Konsolen auf Vordermann bringen möchte oder einfach nur eine gute Lektüre braucht, kann bedenkenlos zugreifen.

Agora que vi a notícia que esse aparelho vendeu 80000 unidades no Reino Unido em uma semana que fui descobrir a existência dele… basicamente é um aparelho com dois sintonizadores de TV, que permite gravar conteúdo da TV para o HD do PS3, podendo assistir no mesmo depois. Não somente isso, assim como esses novos conversores digitais HD, é possível pausar enquanto assiste, voltar, assisitir novamente… também é possível gravar TV e jogar ao mesmo tempo. E por último, pode-se assistir tv pelo PSP através do Remote Play (em tempo real). Ah, e apresenta menu com a programação dos últimos sete dias.

Preço de 60 euros.

Pelo sistema de alta definição adotado no Brasil, creio que teríamos de utilizar um equivalente japonês desse Play TV. E o preço, talvez nem seja muito alto não, já que a Net cobra 900 reais pelo conversor digital HD com disco rígido embutido =/ Mas infelizmente o Play TV ainda é exclusivo para a Europa.
