My next review is for the new game I just picked up recently called Dragon Age: Origins. The game is published by Electronic Arts and developed by BioWare. It is available for the PC, Xbox 360, and Playstation 3 gaming platforms. This game is a RPG (role-playing game) and is somewhat the successor to the Bauldur’s Gate series that was also developed by BioWare. They describe the game as a “dark heroic fantasy” story that is told on an epic scale with mature themes.

The game takes place in the land of Ferelden and you begin the game playing one of the six origin stories based on what race of character you create. The choices being Human Noble, Human/Elf Mage, Dalish Elf, City Elf, Dwarf Commoner and Dwarf Noble. These six different stories serve as a prequel to the actual story and help to introduce your character into this world. After completing the origin story you start on the main story line becoming one of the elite Grey Wardens sworn to fight the demons called the Darkspawn and prevent the world from falling to the Blight.

There are three basic classes to choose from at the start of the game all of which can later be specialized into two of the possible four specializations, they are as follows. Warrior – Berserker, Templar, Champion, Reaver. Mage – Shapeshifter, Spirit Healer, Blood Mage, Arcane Warrior. Rogue – Assassin, Bard, Ranger, Duelist. Each of the specializations opens up a new line of abilities for your character, or you can even decide not to use any of them if that’s what you want. The game is all about the player creating their character with the abilities they want them to have which can lead to a lot of different combinations.

The world itself is pretty open-ended, apart from the beginning where you have to follow the story line. Once that is done you can pretty much go where ever you want, when you want, and in what order you want to do it in. Unlocking more quests and finding out more about the world as you go. And NPC’s will respond differently to you based on your actions or choices in the game. For instance if you bribed someone for money a goody two shoes in your party might get upset, that same character might even leave your cause altogether if you killed someone in cold blood. Your choices in the game have a lot of effect on different elements.

I personally haven’t seen the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 versions, but the PC version has great graphics. Although you need a decent PC for it to look that great. It looks really fluid and things like spells, sky, water, etc all look nice. The gameplay is fun, being able to customize what your characters do during fights via a sort of artificial intelligence system. And at any time you can take control of any character in your party to play as them. All fights are in real-time but you can pause and place commands if that is more your style.

So far its a pretty fun game, and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good RPG. It has lots of content to explore and a high replay value. The only downside I can see for some people is that there is a lot, I mean a LOT of reading and spending time talking to NPCs. The lore is huge and if you actually read all the little side bits introduced it can take a while which might turn some people away. But fear not there is plenty of hacking and slashing to do as well!

MAL PENSADOS!

Bueno esta semana que paso fue una semana llena de esperanza y decepción para mí en cuanto a consolas se refiere, mi PS3 revivió y se mantuvo vivo por 3 días pero mi láser murió y culpo al nuevo firmware por eso, aunque a estas alturas ya no se con exactitud que pasa con mi consola, neta salió defectuosa así que lo mejor será comprar otra. De todos modos gracias a esos tres días pude descubrir que lo que está mal es mi Disco Duro y en este preciso momento les diré por qué.

Me baso en tres cosas:

• Primero que nada se supone que cuando sale la luz amarilla en el PS3, este muere y no es posible prenderlo -solo con el truco de la secadora, pero dura escasos días- lo curioso es que mi PS3 prendía por ratos y luego se apagaba, entre mas días pasaba sin usarlo, más tiempo duraba prendido, por ejemplo, no lo usé por toda una semana y cuando lo prendí me duró como dos horas hasta que jugué, se congelo la pantalla y volvió a salir la luz, así que sin pensarlo dos veces después de no haberla prendido en un lapso de como cinco días, me decidí a ver si prendía para formatear el DD y así comprobar mi teoría.
• Fue el Jueves de la semana pasada que formateé el disco duro, el formateo duro alrededor de 5 horas, después de eso lo actualice al nuevo firmware (el 3.10) y Pum… cuál fue mi sorpresa que servía a la perfección, esto claro, hasta que probé jugar con un juego en Blu-ray, mi láser simplemente murió (aunque tengo una teoría macabra de que me sacaron el lector en el lugar donde me checaron la consola), a pesar de esa gran pérdida solo pensaba, “bueno al menos sirve” así que proseguí a descargar Critter Crunch de la PSN para probarlo. Ese día mi PS3 estuvo prendido alrededor de unas 12 horas sin fallar (curiosamente después del formateo), lo cual me demostraba una vez mas que el problema venia del DD.
• Pero la prueba que definitivamente me llevo a la conclusión es la siguiente: El Viernes estaba dispuesto a jugar Critter Crunch, al iniciar el juego todo es tuvo normal, hasta que llegue a la pantalla de carga, en ese momento me salió un mensaje generado por la consola que decía “El juego ha sido obligado a salir debido a la falta de memoria. Para guardar necesitas al menos 1768 Kb de espacio libre en el disco duro” y entonces pensé: “Que! si acabo de formatear el DD tengo alrrededor de 64 Gb libres” y como podrán imaginar es imposible que no pueda guardar un juego que ocupa 1768 Kb en un DD que tiene 64 Gb disponibles. Y así fue como descubrí la falla de mi PS3. Ayer en la tarde volvió a salir la luz amarilla, pero es cuestión de unos días para que vuelva a prender.

Con un historial de 2 láser muertos y una luz amarilla lo más conveniente es comprar otro, mi antiguo PS3 es una bomba de tiempo que morirá y morirá en cualquier momento.

Y como dijo estuve jugando Critter Crunch y solo puedo decir WOW! si, wow, no es nada especial pero si es un gran juego, entretenido, divertido, simple y agradable al ojo, un Puzzle con gran variedad de modos que te bridará varias horas de diversión y tiene mucho replay value. El modo online es muy bueno y el tiempo que lo estuve jugando no presencie lag, tiene mi sello de aprobación y sin duda lo recomiendo, aquí les dejo un video bastante extenso para que vean de que se trata.

Y bueno no todo es malo xD estoy plenamente agradecido con los lectores porque esta semana se sintió más movimiento en el blog que de costumbre y eso es bueno si tienen alguna queja o petición diganlo ahora! se les agradecerá.

Sony has a strategy for upping the quality of its content and providing an incentive for gamers to upgrade their home entertainment systems next year, and it involves the PS3going 3D.

A presentation to investors yesterday underlined that the PlayStation 3 will be a fully 3D-capable game console by the end of 2010, and that a firmware update would share this upgrade across all existing PS3s. A few demos of PS3 3D gaming have been shown previously, but the news of an across-the-board firmware update is new. Of course, a gamer would still need a 3D-capable Bravia HDTV and glasses, the latter of which haven’t been announced yet.

We’re curious how the quality will be–Nvidia’s 3D game technology, now being embedded into laptops, looks great, but requires a 120Hz monitor for fluid motion. But it’s a smart idea, if manufacturers want anyone to adopt 3D tech, to include it as a Trojan horse inside laptops and game consoles. And we hope it works on HDTVs other than specific Bravias. It doesn’t sound like the PS3 will double as a 3D Blu-ray player, but we certainly hope that’s the case.

E, ao conectar o videogame à internet, o usuário passa a ter uma série de vantagens. Uma delas é o Nintendo Channel, que traz uma série de programas exclusivos e gratuitos. São vídeos sobre os próximos lançamentos da plataforma, além de entrevistas e matérias sobre assuntos relacionados ao mundo gamer. O console também tem um browser exclusivo, que permite a navegação em qualquer página da web. Na WiiShop, é possível comprar jogos dos consoles antigos da Nintendo. O Super Mario, quase eterno, reina absoluto por lá! Também é possível ver a previsão do tempo do mundo todo e notícias em tempo real de diversas editorias: negócios, artes, política… você escolhe. E o melhor é que dessa forma, toda a família passa a interagir, junta. Mesmo quem não gosta de jogos. “Hoje é difícil imaginar um idoso de 70 anos jogando video-game, mas isso é  possível. O Wii reúne toda a família e aproxima pessoas que tinham desavenças. Minha família mesmo tinha raiva de videogame, e hoje todo mundo joga. É o maior barato!”, diz Cayo Eduardo, editor de games.

No caso de acessórios feitos sob medida para o Wii, como o Wii Fit, a interação com o resto da família se torna ainda maior. É possível fazer Yoga, exercícios físicos, tudo tendo como base a invenção da Nintendo. Mas é claro que a imaginação do ser humano foi capaz de dar outras funções para o console. Tem programa de TV utilizando o joystick para apresentações. E tem até banda de rock utilizando o Wii-Remote para fazer música.

E se o Wii exercita as pessoas, o Xbox é puro sedentarismo. O videogame da Microsoft faz de tudo para que o usuário fique tranquilão, no conforto do sofá. Com o console, nem é preciso ir até o computador para assistir a vídeos online. Ele é capaz de se conectar ao Windows Media Center, e exibir na sua TV o conteúdo que está guardado no seu PC.

Você não precisa sair do lugar nem mesmo para conversar com os seus amigos. A plataforma Xbox Live permite que o usuário converse com as outras pessoas online durante jogos.

O bate-papo pode rolar dessa forma a qualquer momento. Dá até pra assistir a um filme e conversar com alguém do outro lado da conexão. E no caso do Xbox, o usuário não precisa nem mesmo ir à loja para comprar um novo título: a grande maioria dos games está à venda aqui mesmo, na loja virtual.

Se você é um heavy gamer e preza por qualidade gráfica nos seus jogos, certamente prefere o Playstation 3. O equipamento exibe imagens em full HD, e aí mora a grande vantagem do console: ele também é um leitor de discos blu-ray, e custa quase o mesmo que os blu-ray players mais básicos à venda no mercado. “A Sony está sempre atualizando a firmware do console e aumentando as funções que o Blu-Ray te oferece, ao contrário dos aparelhos comuns do mercado”, afirma Fabio Nobre, editor de games.

No Playstation 3, você também tem acesso à internet através de um browser. E no Life with Playstation, é possível ver a previsão do tempo e ler notícias do mundo inteiro via Google News. A Playstation Store é bem parecida com a do Xbox: é possível comprar filmes e seriados, mas o sistema filtra o usuário pelo IP. Então, não vá achando que comprar conteúdo internacional será tarefa fácil. E a Playstation Home é o lugar onde todos os usuários do console se encontram virtualmente. É uma espécie de Second Life, lembra disso?

Com os 3 consoles, é claro que a brincadeira fica melhor se você tiver uma rede sem fios na sua casa. Ela é o melhor jeito de ligar seu console ao seu computador e à internet.

Con la nueva actualización 3.10 Sony ha puesto un sistema para enviar errores si la consola se apaga sin motivo aparente o se queda congelada durante un juego, así con este sistema se podrá saber el motivo que afecta a esa consola para que pasen esos casos.

El reporte de Errores aparecera una vez reiniciada la consola, solo tenemos que pulsar en el mensaje Aceptar y listo en unos días Sony nos contestara el porque de ese error.

Yo se que ustedes aman Borderlands, (bueno la verdad no se, pero yo lo amo y ni siquiera lo he jugado) y es por eso que hoy les tengo preparada una tanda de imágenes acompañadas por un video para que le echen un ojo al primer Contenido Descargable de este juego. Supongo que ya sabían, este DLC estará ubicado… En la Isla Zombie del Dr. Ned, donde como su nombre lo indica habrá zombies!

Los desarrolladores prometen que esta semi-expansión nos dará de 6 a 10 horas de juego, lo cual está muy bien por $10 USD (adivinaron, eso cuesta) y estará en la PSN este Jueves 26 de Noviembre. ¿Quien le llega?

No se sabe nada, y cuando digo nada lo digo enserio, bueno si sabemos algo, 2K Games es el culpable y será revelado en los premios Spike TV Video Games Awards, por el momento habrá que conformarnos con ese teaser y con el rumor de que podría ser un nuevo Spec Ops. Los VGA’s son el 12 de Diciembre solo queda esperar.

¿Que creen que sea?

En esta semana se anuncio el cierre oficial de Pandemic Studios y el despido de más de 200 integrantes del staff, con todo y eso la compañía ha anunciado que The Saboteur -por lo visto ya su último juego- ya es Gold, esto significa que su desarrollo ha sido finalizado y está listo para salir al mercado, el juego pisará tierras Europeas el 4 de Diciembre y americanas el 8 del mismo mes.

Es muy lamentable, ya que EA no ha hecho ningún tipo de publicidad para este juego y probablemente no se venda bien, si no me equivoco el 95% de las personas que visitan este blog no piensan en comprar este juego, tal vez ni se acordaban de él, triste pero cierto. Mis condolencias a todas las personas de Pandemic que perdieron sus trabajos, suerte para ellos y un minuto de silencio por otra pequeña compañia que se lleva la crisis.

Por mucho tiempo Sony no dijo (ni mostro) nada acerca de este excelente juego que vimos por primera vez en el E3 de este año, lo bueno es que La BETA de ModNation Racers está a punto de ser revelada y debido a esto han decidido levantar la cortina y mostrar un nuevo video donde podremos ver todas las opciones de personalización en cuanto a personaje y auto se refiere, ¿Que les puedo decir? simplemente es una idea increíble y no puedo esperar para tenerlo en mis manos, diversión asegurada!

Por fin se deja ver un video mostrando (un poco) de lo que será el primer episodio descargable de “Resident Evil 5: Aternative Edition” (o si lo prefieren Gold Edition, es lo mismo) el cual llevará como subtitulo “Lost in Nightmares”, que como ya se ha comentado será un episodio previo a RE5, donde Jill y Chris visitan la Mansión Spencer para acabar de una vez por todas con el fundador de Umbrella.

Este capítulo junto con un pack de trajes estará disponible en la PSN el 18 de Febrero del 2010, pero recomiendo fuertemente que compren la Gold Edition. Si me lo preguntan este es un excelente add-on Content, lo que si no me agrada es el precio, pero bueno ya sin mas chilladera les dejo el vídeo, juzguen ustedes mismos y dejen su opinión en los comentarios, aunque no lo crean es muy importante ver que opinan los jugadores.

And Evra lashed out at French fans for criticising Thierry Henry following his handball in the build-up to William Gallas’ decisive goal, claiming that they should be erecting a statue for his France team-mate.
He told L’Equipe: ‘In football there are injustices all the time. Titi (Henry) doesn’t  deserve this. Leave him be.

‘Who made the mistake? The referee.

‘When I think that certain politicians want to replay the match… They don’t even know if the ball is round or oval and they would be the first to come and drink champagne in South Africa.

LOL.Fifa 10 is a great game by the way

The PlayStation Network, along with the PlayStation 3, have been around for just over three years. You would imagine after three years that PSN would have quite a handful of members, especially since it has made vast improvements since then and even expanded onto the PSP. The last figures that were released were that the service had over 24 million users.

As of today though, the figures for the amount of PSN users is over 31 million. For a service that is only three years old that is quite impressive. As well as that Sony revealed that over 650 million pieces of content have been downloaded.

Averybody love World War II, right? At least I do. Or at least the neutral approach, and not the American black and white good-evil kind of approach. I saw this American miniseries about Hitler once, and it was just horrible. I think they called it The Rise of Evil; pretty  much sais it all. And with a film like Der Untergang in the back of my head, I know how it can be done well.

Anyway, the reason I’m talking about World War II is of course game related, or a new game called Saboteur, to be mor specific. From what I read, this is supposed to be a stealthy sneaky game set in France during the German occupation. As the title suggests, you play a saboteur, probably working for the resistance. I already can’t wait to get my hands on it.

The interesting thing about Saboteur, is that you’re supposed to be able to choose wether you want to do a mission by sneaking around and slit throats, or do it in a more spectacular manner. That probably involving a bit of mass killing and TNT.

The game comes out on December 3, for the PC, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. Saboteur will definitly find its way to my collection. I will make sure that the nazis will fall, one way or the other.

Analysis:

Gran Turismo may have created the sim racing genre, but in the end the Forza Motorsport series won out in the hearts of Frayed Wire readers. The fifth installment of Gran Turismo has yet to come out, so if I had made this poll sometime in the future after that game had been released, maybe we would have seen some different results. But for now, the Xbox’s little pride and joy is the king.
