Endless abyss—
Drifting alone, thoughtless and void.

(1) The conviction figure for “rape” includes cases where a defendant is found NOT GUILTY of rape but is convicted of some other offence (which could be a much less serious one). If you look at page 5 of the report these figures are drawn from (www.cps.gov.uk/publications/docs/cps_vawg_report_2012.pdf) you will see the TRUE conviction rate for RAPE is just 40% – this means 60% of rape defendants are INNOCENT!

(2) The “conviction” figures include guilty pleas! If you look at the actual data (www.cps.gov.uk/data/violence_against_women/rape_key_findings_11_12/rape_table_3_prosecution_outcomes_0708_1112.csv) you will see that the REAL conviction rate (that is, the percentage of defendants found guilty after a contested trial) for last year was just 53% (remember this includes cases that STARTED OFF as rape cases, even if the defendant was acquitted of that charge – see (1) above – so is higher than the actual rape conviction rate).

(3)This rate was actually LOWER than it was in 2009-20010 (when it was 55%) so it’s NOT an “all-time high” – in fact the rate has stayed pretty much the same since 2007-2008 and worryingly for the CPS, it goes DOWN when they bring more prosecutions! So the “extra” number of convictions is achieved by bringing more dodgy prosecutions which result in more acquittals and MORE INNOCENT MEN who are dragged through the criminal process and have their lives ruined as a result!

A fully-functioning 19th-century village? The Post Office still operates and arts and crafts are taught all year round.

If you like the smell of timber and architecture of the 19th century then this is the place for you. The sight of people in period costume  of the place and the architecture will leave you breath-taken. The staff are informative and there is an authentic Swedish chef. Ever seen the muppets? He’ll remind you of them. It is truly the heart of 19th century Sweden. The open air cafes are abundant. So is cycling…

There are places like Helin and Voltaire that serve coffee tea and pastries, the smell of which you’ll never forget, plus more, or there is Skansen terrace, a wonderful open-air venue where you can sit and drink under the sky of a long summer evening. Want to have your own little glass moose? Why not go to the glass-blower and watch him make it before your very eyes?

All the fauna of Sweden are kept here. If you find seals cute and cuddly, a grey one is fed every day at his aquatic enclosure. He looks happy all -day long. The size of the enclosures is large. The animals have plenty of room and are loved by both staff and visitors.

Its harmony with nature leads you to think of all the dream you dreamt as a child.

These laws are innate to us. We don’t learn it, we just know it.

So, why do people couples feel the need to skip the page which suggests that bedroom business should be kept behind closed doors?

Today, I woke in the early hours to hand in an assignment at university. It was early, I was still fuzzy headed- the last thing I wanted to see was a man’s tongue penetrating his partner’s mouth!

Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t ogle.

But that’s the thing, when out in public, I shouldn’t have to fashion some sort of blinkers. I shouldn’t have to turn my head to avoid locking eyes with someone’s activity. But, since people are unaware of how to conduct themselves in public, I’ve been forced to do so.

A part of me is laughing at myself though. A part of me is telling me that I’m only reacting this way because I’m single. It’s not jealousy, it’s just a kind of ignorance.

Truth is, I’ve never been in love.

I kind of get it, those tonsil-tennis players just wanted to show the world how in love they are.

But really? I can’t be the only one who finds that cutesy kind of thing sickening?

I understand, they probably love each other, but a departing kiss did not have to resemble a kiss goodbye.

She was going to her lecture, for goodness sake!

It wouldn’t have surprised me if, afterwards, they’d reunited as if they’d spent years apart.

Eurgh!

What I’m trying to say is sometimes these public displays of affections leave other people feeling offended? I almost thought that, by walking past them, I was intruding. But, they were on my path, and I couldn’t have avoided it.

There’s an effective concept that circulates called time and place. And, it is hugely beneficial for everyone if the population could just try and grasp it.

So couples, I know love is supposed to be a beautiful thing, but could we please just tone it down in public? Please!

I think that we call can relate to David in this psalm. There are those times when we feel that God is so distant and doesn’t care for our problems, that (like in verse 4) we think that, “Don’t let my enemies gloat saying; ‘We have defeated him.’” There are many people in this world that do seek to “rejoice at my [your] downfall.” But don’t let this get you down! Though at a very low, David still put his trust in God! God’s silence doesn’t me has abandoned you. Remember, when you are lost you are not alone.

May we, at our times of trouble, still say, “I will sing to the Lord because He is good to me.”

So, the whole point of this blog was because I was ready to be open and honest about life. I feel like too many Facebook pages and blogs make life seem like I am the ONLY one going through tough times, and frankly, I was tired of it. So here is a honest blog post.

My husband and I follow a pretty tight budget. I have a love/hate relationship with our pretty yellow budget book, and all of it’s contents. It allows me to see that our dream of getting out of our home in city limits is a very long way down the road. In short term perspective, it shows me that we will need to eat lots of cheap meals this week if we will have enough gas to get our son to baseball practice and my husband to work. I only love it because it keeps us from being totally broke most weeks. Love/Hate, mostly Hate.

We are desperately trying to pay off student loans and get out of debt to others. We have an amazingly simple plan, a slow but steady account of making ends meet while making progress on those hefty debts. This week, I feel as if we are going 2 steps forward and 15 steps back.

In order to keep all in balance, I need to earn $109.42 as soon as possible.

I have a ton of bows RTS if anyone is interested. It’s a serious plea. :-/

Tonight I am praying that God gives me the wisdom and courage I need to make decisions with my husband that will help our family. That He will guide us down the right paths and that I have the patience and understanding and FAITH to know that He isn’t going to let me down. He hasn’t done so yet, and I don’t think He plans on starting to do so now.

Would you pray with us tonight, for peace, patience, contentment.

Hey everyone. I have a big, big favour to ask.

I don’t often ask my readers for stuff, even at my regular blog, One Night Stanzas (I even took my tip jar down ’cause I felt bad about it). But now I’m asking for your help, because I know you’re all super-cool individuals who know a damn good cause when you see one.

I’ve spoken a bit before, here (scroll past the inevitable cake pictures!) about the totally life-changing (really!) work I’ve been doing over the past year with a thing called The Making It Home Project. I won’t say too much about it here, because I want you to go and read all the details at this link instead, but I will say: this is the sort of creative work that I deeply, passionately believe in. Forget fancy book launches, forget big anthologies, forget even the humble poetry slam. This is what poetry ought to be doing with itself: opening up amazing new creative possibilities to people who might otherwise never have read a poem in their lives.

I’m being mysterious, so go see what I’m talking about! But first, listen to the following, heartfelt plea…

You guys all know the power of books, I’m sure. You know there’s something about a book: they’ve got a special sort of magic that no other object has. And a lot of you know how much more magical a book becomes if it contains something that you yourself wrote… right? Well, we want to make a really, really magical book. It’ll be a book we can give to the incredible women we’ve been working with, so they can also experience how awesome (literally) it feels to hold and read and share a book that has your words in it. It’ll also be a book we can give to all of you — for free! — to show you the amazing work these groups of women have been doing.

I’d like to ask you to do three small things.

ERCA may be seeking to send a message in high profile case

Prosecutors of the Ethiopian Revenues and Customs Authority (ERCA) requested the Eighth Criminal Bench of the Federal High Court, Lideta Division to hand down a 3-billion-birr fine against Ayat S.C. and a 79-year jail term and a 2.7-million-birr fine against its founder and CEO, Ayalew Tessema, who were found guilty of multiple counts of crime by the court on March 11.

Hmmm.

The paintings of Henry Scott Tuke coming under closer scrutiny since the SaVile business.  Elton John is a well-known collector.  Where are the girls then?  What is it about boats and boys with The Elite?  Why do they all insist on wearing nothing to go boating?  Won’t their tackle get caught in the tackle?  We never went sailing in the nude when I was in the yacht club.  The other thing is, if they want to go boating in the nude they shouldn’t have some perve looking at them through binocs.

After reading their website, I have a feeling that this organisation ie InterCom started out with genuine goals of helping minorities and has been suckered a bit over the Elite amoral agenda.

Both De’Marquise Elkins, 17, and Dominique Lang, 15, are charged as adults. Authorities say Elkins fatally shot 13-month-old Antonio Santiago in his stroller as Elkins and Lang tried to rob the child’s mother March 21 on the street a few blocks from her Brunswick apartment.

They entered their pleas in writing and waived arraignment before a judge that was scheduled for Thursday morning.

Superior Court Judge Stephen Kelley has said he wants a trial before the end of the year. Prosecutors weren’t allowed to consider seeking the death penalty because Georgia law prohibits it for defendants charged with crimes before age 18.

The baby’s mother, Sherry West, has said she was pushing her son in his stroller a few blocks from her apartment in Brunswick along the Georgia coast when two youths approached asking for money. When she refused, she said, one of them drew a gun and shot her in the leg before shooting her baby in the face.

An indictment charging Elkins on nine counts, including malice murder, identified him as the person authorities accuse of pulling the trigger. Lang was charged with seven counts, including felony murder, as an accomplice. Both face life in prison if convicted.

Police arrested both teenagers within a day of the shooting. Glynn County Police Chief Matt Doering has said information from Elkins’ mother and older sister helped lead investigators to a small saltwater pond where they recovered a .22-caliber handgun suspected of being used in the slaying.

Elkins has also been charged in a second shooting and robbery attempt 10 days before the baby was killed. An indictment says Elkins pointed a gun at Wilfredo Calix-Flores while demanding his cellphone and wallet, then shot the man in the arm with the same caliber gun used to kill the baby.

A St Catherine mother who reportedly tied up her teenage son to a soursop tree, and poured hot water on him pleaded guilty when she appeared in court yesterday.

The woman, a 43-year-old labourer, of Guanoboa Vale, St Catherine, was before the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate‘s Court on charges of cruelty to child and assault occasioning bodily harm.

When the matter was mentioned, she pleaded guilty with explanation.

“Your Honour, the bwoy just jumped up and decided that him want to go hussle. The cup of hot water was in my hand and it dash weh pon him head,” she said.

Resident Magistrate Marcia Dunbar-Green said she did not believe the accused. The accused was granted bail in the sum of $60,000 to reappear in court on June 18 for sentencing.

The court heard that on April 6, the accused tied the complainant to a soursop tree. She then poured hot water to the back of his head, forehead and also inside his mouth.

The matter was reported to Constable Damion Thompson, and she was charged with cruelty to child and assault occasioning bodily harm.

Last year Lauryn Hill pleaded guilty to tax evasion charges after failing to file taxes for several years in a row. Now Hill is seeking leniency during her sentencing claiming threats against her family kept her from filing.  Lauryn Hill filed legal documents claiming “she withdrew from society at large due to what she perceived as manipulation and very real threats to herself and her family.”  Lauryn has requested there be no jail time, pointing out she would be able to pay off her debt quicker if she is allowed to remain free. Lauryn owes taxes and penalties on the $1.8 million she earned over 2005, 2006, and 2007.  A judge is set to rule on April 22nd. What’s that saying about death and taxes?
