I honestly hope this song makes it on the new Usher album – WOW!

“Hey Daddy (Daddy’s Home)” featurning Oscar da Grouch himself Plies is rumored, but not confirmed to be on Usher’s upcoming album “Raymond vs Raymond.”  A nice grindfest club banger produced by The Runners, Usher sounds in his prime singing over this heavy bass track. There is NO NEED for Plies, however…Plies being on this is the equivalant of Lil Jon voice on “Lovers and Friends” track. Not to mention it sounds like Plies has rocks in his mouth – yux. Ludacris would have been a VERY better subsitution, but overall the track is dope as hell.

THE SPOT: 74 Leonard Street between Broadway and Church, Nov 24, 2008. It’s raining but we must press on because this is, in fact, is a VIBE event and to not go or support, despite my personal-training induced body aches, wouldn’t be right. So Danyel and I hopped into a black car service (finding a taxi at our new location on Wall St. is MISSION IMPOSSIBLE) headed to the Knitting Factory to witness Plies‘ first ever performance in New York in honor of his December cover.

We arrive early, like five-people-in-the-room-plus-the-food-staff early. But you all know if the food staff was set up and good to go, I felt right on time. Slowly VIP began to make their way into the stuffy, or like the industry calls it “intimate,” VIP area. I’m tearing into my shrimp wrap, and everyone is looking at me crazy for eating, but isn’t that what the food is for, damn? (What up E.W.!) The crowd made up of press, label crews, old and current interns, photographers and VIBE staffers are all rubbing elbows, and knees, booties, arms for that matter–because the spot is tight. The music volume is lowered, the crowd silences, and the announcement is made that Plies has arrived! Wait a minute is this a surprise party??? Why do we have to turn down the music for fifeteen minutes before he actually makes his way to the indoor red carpet? Plus now that the music is off, you pay more attention to the temperature, and Nelly said it best…”It’s Getting Hot in Hurr.”

Finally Plies enters, photographers go buck for a shot of Danyel and Plies as the crowd gets shifted, pushed, and pulled in every direction. I was glad I was one of the few sitting in a seat, chilling…but it was funny to watch. With the Red Rug (small scale) photo session was over, Danyel was good to go, and we made our way upstairs. Alright here’s where everything gets hot–literally. Our trek up the steps changes the temperature from an uncomfortable 70 degrees, to the heat-gotsa-be-on-hell, 98 degrees.

Mind over matter, “whoosa,” I came to enjoy the show and that’s what I intend to do. Every female with hair past their shoulders tied their locks up in a ponytail, while I was thinking: if I pull out my scissors and just cut my hair off will I have time to buy another pack tonight and put it in by the morning??

Funkmaster Flex is on his reggae set trying to trick us into thinking this was a basement party, and the temperature was supposed all part of the look…right. With twelve people on a 6ft x 6ft stage, I did feel worse for the people on the platform than in the audience. BET’s 106 and Park Terrance J, the host for the night, comes out jumping on the stage like he just ate 39 Pixie Stixs and I’m like please stop with that bubble coat and all the hoping he is wearing me out. Plies, please where are you?

Just before I had a heat stroke, Plies in all his miniature swaggerliscious self comes out to the song, “Who’s Hotter Than Me?” Really Plies? The answer is us…this whole damn Knitting Factory crowd is hotter than you. In a white jacket, thermal, and fitted flipped to the back, Plies raps his hit “Busta Baby,” gangsta sex rapping at its best. Seductively touching a girl on her lips he says, “When you say you love me, I love you to. And when I say the pleasure is all mines, the pleasure is all mine.” Whew am I getting hot for another reason?

By the smells of it people are now smoking whatever they want, and Plies is performing his first mega-hit “Shawty” ft. T-Pain. He goes acapella, and for a moment I forgot how X-rated his lyrics were, “Look how that pussy sit in them shorts, you got to want her…” Ummmm?

Plies spits his verses on Shawty Lo’s, “Hello,” and DJ Khaled’s tracks “Im Out Here Grinding,” “I’m So Hood,” and removes his thermal to give a shout out to all his Atlantic label family. Before he raps over the Pattie LaBelle sampled “Somebody Loves You Baby,” he vocalizes his appreciation to Vibe for allowing him to do something so major, and sends a special thanks to Danyel. “I know she’s here, I gave her about three kisses tonight,” he admits. Awwwwww how sweet. It’s time to go…I make my exit almost falling to the ground when I finally get outside… air.

Lesson: Stay humble, stay prepared, there is not such thing as luck. Success is preparation meeting opportunity.

I’m tired of the gimmick filled phony people in rap music today. So I took to video to talk about how easy it is to create one.

For the past few years, rap music has been plagued by one hit wonders and constant push-backs. Things have really gotten out of hand with this in the past two years. Ironically, in the past two years, Plies has risen to become one of rap’s biggest stars.

After he released his debut single, “Shawty,” Plies was written off as a one hit wonder. People assumed that there was no way that he was coming back. Within a year, he scored his second major hit with the single, “Bust It Baby, Pt. 2.” As more and more rappers see their albums pushed back, Plies has seen his pushed up.

Only months after the release of his second album, Definition of Real, Plies came right back with Da REAList. The album did not sell many copies, but he did score some urban hits off of that release. A joke within the hip hop industry has been “a rapper can’t release an album on time unless his name is Plies.”

Soon after the release of Da REAList, it was announced that Plies was going to release his next album, Goon Affiliated in May 2009. It was said that he had an album completed and all that he had to do with it was turn it in. Apparently, he felt the need to go back and re-work the album because it was pushed back to October.

When the October dates came and passed, Plies said that the album was due on November 17, 2009. Last week was the week of the 17^th and all that came were releases from 50 Cent and Rakim. Already, two singles have been released off of this album and none have yet to stick. It is likely that Plies has gone back in to re-work the album, one more time.

If that is the case, there is no way to expect Goon Affiliated before the end of 2009. With no buzz surrounding the album and no song in circulation, Plies’ fourth album has probably been pushed back until 2010.

The song Becky, by Plies, is probably one of the dumbest songs I had ever heard. However it is a good infectious sing-a-long. The first time I heard it on the radio it didn’t make a lot of sense to me.

However, I acquired the un-censored version and suddenly the song made a lot more sense.

What does Plies mean by “Becky” though?

According to my research, “Becky” is slang for a white valley girlish female. This is supported by the video. However, when I listened to the uncensored version of the song, I quickly came to the conclusion that he meant something else altogether.

Here is a sample of the uncensored chorus, “A lil head and I am ready I want yo mouth give me that Becky.”

And basically the rest of the song revolves around giving head. According to one of the urban dictionary entries, “it comes from the saying “white girls give the best head”. and Becky is a “common” white girl name.” However the lyrics to the song do not support that he’s particularly referring to a white women.

40 Glocc says he’s the “Real Niggah Police” yeah this is the West Coast. Don’t get your card pulled.

So first off HELLO MY LOVE and thank you for taking the time out to do this interview with me! I promise this won’t be painful.  So you have been doing my hair for about a year now.  Let’s give our readers a closer look at who you are.  Shall we? :

1. So what initially got you into hairstyling?

SINCE I WAS LITTLE, I USED TO DO CUTS ON THE GUYS IN HIGHSCHOOL.  YOU CAN SAY I WENT FROM
“ROCKS TO LOCKS!”  BEING A HAIR “BALLER” WAS ALOT SAFER.  GIVE ME SOME THREAD AND LOOSE HAIR AND I CAN MAKE YOU A TRACK!  THAT’S HOW LONG I’VE BEEN AROUND HAIR.  MY FAMILY OWNS HAIR SALONS, AND I’VE HAD MY OWN SALONS IN ST. LOUIS (BEFORE MOVING OUT TO LOS ANGELES).  LIKE MY GRANNY SAID “I CAN TAKE IT(HAIRSTYLING) ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD AND MAKE A NAME AND MONEY FOR MYSELF.”  THAT’S EXACTLY WHAT I’VE DONE! LOCALLY AND INTERNATIONALLY.

2. So hairstyling has obviously been in your family for a long time, it seems it was only natural for you to get into it.  Who do you consider the top in your field that you admire and aspire to be?

KIYA WRIGHT AND ROBERTA RODGERS.  I DON’T ASPIRE TO BE ANYONE OF THEM, BUT GREATER THAN THEM!

3. Kiya Wright?! Wow, what a small world!  She used to do my hair a couple years back.  She’s great with mixed hair.  So what music do you listen to?

I LISTEN TO ALL KINDS OF MUSIC!  I LOVE COUNTRY MUSIC BECAUSE THE LYRICS ARE BOMB.  ROCK, INSPIRATION(GOSPEL), JAMAICAN, POP, ALL KINDS OF MUSIC EXCEPT HOUSE!

4. I would have never expected from knowing you, that you were a fan of Country music! I love it too.  So who are some clients you’re proud to have worked with?

I AM PROUD TO HAVE WORKED WITH MISSY ELLIOT, NE-YO, NICK CANNON, SNOOP DOGG, TYLER PERRY, PRINCE, BABYFACE, CLAUDIA JORDAN, JORDAN B. SCOTT, DANIELLE CRAWLEY, AKON, PLIES -WHO GOT ME STARTED IN THE INDUSTRY), KEISHA COLE, KELIS, STACEY DASH(INFAMOUS KING MAGAZINE SHOOT), LAWRENCE FISHBURN, NIA LONG, CIARA, KEISHA KNIGHT PULLIAM, AND MANY MORE!  I’VE WORKED WITH EVERY MOGUL, MAN, VIDEO VIXEN I CAN THINK OF! 5. Ne-yo? You did Ne-yo’s hair? Does Ne-yo have hair that i’m not aware of?! LOL Kidding.  That’s quite an impressive resume!  And to hear you’re getting into styling women, gotta say I love it! Hmm…next question.  If you had a choice to be in another profession, would you?

IF I HAD THE CHOICE TO HAVE ANOTHER PROFESSION IT WOULD FOR SURE BE AN ACTOR,TALK SHOW HOST, AND RECORDING ARTIST, IN WHICH I’VE DONE ALL ALREADY.  NOW MY CAREER PUTS ME IN THE DRIVER SEAT TO DO ALL THE PREVIOUS THAT I’VE MENTIONED.  MR.UP AND COMING!

6. Do you love what you do?

I LOVE WHAT I DO BECAUSE EVERY DAY IT’S DIFFERENT AND I’M NOT RESTRICTED TO “THE SALON”BECAUSE I’M FREELANCE.  IT HAS TAKEN ME  IN AND OUT THE COUNTRY WITH THE BEST!  THE BEST IS STILL YET TO COME!

7. That’s amazing.  To go from St. Louis to all over the globe, must be an awesome feeling.  Most people HATE what they do for a living, so it’s nice to hear that you’re in the many few that get to love their jobs.  So what projects can we look forward to seeing from you?
