So here’s an update of how Manzoor and I are progressing with our HELP Fundraising Dinner.

The site where the hospital we are raising money for was officially opened on 26th Feb. They need to raise £150,000 and I think around £60,000 has already been raised. We hope to raise £10,000 towards this cause with our charity dinner.

Kashmir Catering have agreed to provide us with the food for the evening; we will hopefully be meeting them on Thursday to get more information on the menu. We do however need to find somebody to provide the drinks. We would like a bottle of 7up, coke and water on each of the 60 tables. Some starting points are Cash n Carry and Indus Foods at the minute.

I designed a first draft of the poster and tickets for the event – any improvement suggestions welcome! We will ask Crystal Plaza (the venue) if they will cover the printing costs.

At the minute the entertainment for the evening is a poet – Farhat Abbas Shar; we will look into also getting an English poet. I feel maybe some other entertainment is necessary such as singers or dancers (Pakistani of course) however Manzoor is unconvinced! They would have to be very cheap, or preferably be willing to perform for free but this sometimes means quality is compromised!

We have had conversations with some students on the photography course at BCU who will hopefully be taking portraits of families/couples on the evening.

Next steps: compile a list of relevant businesses to pitch tickets to, visit Kashmir catering, sort out drinks, finalise marketing material and get it printed, visit Latif and Sons and (beg) a TV for the raffle.

Hello world and welcome to my blog. As the title suggests, I’ve never had a blog before, never had the inclination to blog and never had the faintest idea how to blog. It’s such a funny word “blog” isn’t it? I don’t find it appealing or attractive and has with it’s lack of charm (until this point) put me off actually ever writing a blog. I decided, rather geekily, to Google the definition of blogging and here is what dictionary.com came up with:

Blogging: noun

1. A web site containing the writer’s or group of writers’ own experiences, observations, opinions, etc., and often having images and links to other web sites.

You might wonder what the point of all that what. It was a roundabout way of saying that I’ve just started an Events and Exhibition Management MA at Birmingham City University and thought perhaps a blog would be a “modern” way of putting up my “experiences, observation, opinions, etc” of any events I attend or put together whether for my own personal track record or for others to see what being an Events MA student is really like. Let’s face it, there aren’t many of us out there!

So in my humble and inexperienced opinion, it seems that I finally have something to blog about.
