Hope Dworaczyk (she pronounces it “dor-AH-sik” like ‘Jurassic’) is the Texas-born former TV host of Inside Fashion and the 2010 Playboy Playmate of the Year. She was also a contestant this season on Donald Trump’s Celebrity Apprentice. And she’s a photogenic dream.

That’s why I couldn’t have asked for a more sunny July morning for shooting this Toro Magazine ‘Toro Woman’ feature, given that our call time was 6 AM. We did a Starbuck’s run to help with that part (Hope likes black iced coffee by the way). Starting early also helped us beat the makeup-melting humidity to follow. Joelle Litt from Plutino Group pulled beautiful vintage Chanel and Lucian Matis wardrobe. I went out on a limb, asking if we could lay Hope in the grass because the navy Chanel was begging to be fanned out against the cool, green carpet. With the dew barely evaporated, I knew we were testing Joelle’s nerves, but we laid out a towel first. Plutino’s Natalie Blouin did perfect work on Hope’s hair and makeup. I asked production coordinator Andrew Colvin and assistant Maz Mohajer to set up every light in our kit since we didn’t quite know where the sun would fall once it crested the trees of the garden (I also had some sort of inappropriately diabolical backlighting idea at the time). You can guess how many we ended up using.

My biggest thank you of the shoot goes to the remarkably generous John and Nancy Kellett (as well as Jonathan and Alayna Kellett) for opening their Toronto manor and its spacious back garden to our crew and to Toro Magazine.
